Good ol’ Paulo. Always comes up with the most logical situation to the problem. As an aside, the chapters after Starting Over are when I begin to tolerate Abbey as opposed to outright loathing. Poland lost about 20 percent of her pre-war population by 1945. He becomes a more likable and rational character, as opposed to his ranting, hypocritical earlier self.
