I still don’t understand. Why did they freak out?

Still not sure what’s going on here. If both of their reactions were warranted, why did they recover so quickly. Also, I’m still confused about the last page. WHAT HAPPENED.
What is she even training for, it’s baseball, even if you hit, the sport is still a swing and a miss. And why do they both look slightly sad at the end?

Jasmine goes right back to training like nothing happened .
Edit: Jasmine tried doing something bold(getting closer to Paulo on the previous page) and got caught when Paulo woke up which is why she freaked and that cause Paulo to freak out as well.
I’m just curious as too why they are acting like it shouldn’t have happened since last time i checked boyfriends/girlfriends like showing each other affection.

I don’t see why Paulo and Jasmine seem so forced right now… and it’s definitely not just shipping tinted glasses, that’s defintiely what those last panels convey. Are they back to having relationship problems?

I wouldn’t chalk it up to awkwardness over the injury; most couples bond further over one member being hurt, even if by the other. People who are willing to take care for each other tend to be closer.

Seems as though there’s two possibilities…

A) Jasmine is being shy and nervous because she just had her first “intimate” moment with Paulo (maybe with anyone?) and is trying to process her own hormones (maybe conflicting with her beliefs).

or

B) Jasmine is a closet lesbian but doesn’t want Paulo to feel bad.

Ok… Still no idea what happened… Perhaps since cats purr when they’re happy, Jasmine was shocked that Paulo was so happy to be in that position and Paulo reacted that way out of surprise at her shock and surprise that he was actually purring.

She’s probably thinking
“Oh no… My boyfriend knows I like him! This is so embarrassing!”

Or a million other things, I’m not believing anything until the next update, I have too many guesses.

Guys, she freaked out because she isn’t so good at showing affection without being terribly embarrassed. They’ve only hugged and cuddled like two or three times that we’ve seen. She was sneaking in some affection while she thought he was still unconscious.

Anyway, Jazz, just go hug the boy will you? Hell, give ‘im a kiss. You know you want to!

In my opinion the reason why they freaked out is because the artist does not consider this whole webcomic a furry comic, just cats and other animals with and without clothes. Paulo purred, which is common among furs, I believe, and this points out why @SuitCase said “****ing furries” the page before. Therefore, when Paulo purred, Jazz got freaked out, because they aren’t furries.

I recall Taeshi stating at the first page that the next few chapters will help fill in gaps in the previous stories. This chapter is right after Back & Forth, which is when Paulo hooked up with a lot of ladies (Jessica, Rachel, Jazz) out of his insecurities and jealousy of Mike. It eventually ended with Paulo and Jazzie kind of warming up to each other and maybe developing those feelings.
So at this point they’re probably not even dating yet. They’re just friends. Hence why they freaked out in the last page. So yes… Jazzie is afraid of Paulo realizing that she has feelings for him.
This also explains Jazzie’s sad look in the last panel, because she doesn’t think she’ll be able to get out of that friendzone since they only pretended to date.

Haha, look at that smile Paulo is trying to hide on P1 (Jazz clearly embarrassed). Pretty smooth of Paulo to switch the awkward moment over to the “Hey, you actually drank the water”.
On P10, Paulo obviously enjoyed the rather open sentiment expressed on the previous page, but on P11 Jazz seems to be expressing reservations.
In addition, I enjoy how Paulo’s nose suddenly became unbloody (look at me making up words!).
Edit: If what KiwiSong said is true, then everything in this chapter up until now makes even more sense.

While I am still unsure how I feel about this coupling I do forever love these characters! Jas is just sweet and smart and spunky! Then Paulo, oh Paulo you are just so funny and swell I just don’t know how to handle you =^w^=

People forget that this is a flashback to just after she saved his butt from a group of angry girls… And then he decided she was pretty cool and actually wanted to get to know he. Their relationship is new and they are not that intimate yet. So having him on her lap was probably a mothering kind of thing to do, caring for him. And then she panicked because she realized that could be inappropriate or more intimate that she was truly comfortable with.

Edit. I noticed more comments after I typed out mine. Similar things pointed out, different ideas of whether they are in a relationship. Pretty good explanations either way =)

Everyone note Jasmine’s expression in the last panel. Troubling thoughts after seeing Paulo’s smile. Taeshi’s going to deliver on BCB’s drama and angst yet again.

Mike breaks Lucy’s heart. Jasmine is apparently going to do something to push Paulo away. Then Lucy and Paulo finally get together and realize they’re great for each other. Yay! Head canon!

@Adam You need to think outside the box there. In the comic’s universe, the characters don’t call themselves Furries, or Furs. They are Anthropomorphic animals who still harbor basic animal instincts and traits. Paulo’s a Feline. Feline’s purr. I wonder if most people even know what Anthropomorphic means. They just see one and yell, FURRY!

i think the only reason the human race has survived as long as it has, is because just as many humans that are impossibly stupid are also sex addicts, so there is a never ending flow of stupid people, basically.

Its sad, because Now there sort of a line forming. Jazzie likes Paulo who likes Lucy who still likes Mike, who likes Sandy, who likes Satan. Jazzie wants to show more affection towards Paulo, but she’s too nervous to do it due to them always being more “Bros” than an actual relationship. there was that whole thing a few chapters ago where she and him got in a fight, implying that they were more than friends, but after that they were just friends who hung out a lot, mainly because of the Lucy thing where she threw up on him and such.

There’s one thing that’s nagging at me, though it isn’t actually important. Her tongue…why is it so long and not coming from her mouth? OCD is bugging meeeeee.

Spot on. Even though that Movie Date back in Back and Forth went well, the two of them weren’t actually officially dating…yet.

Jazz’s reaction could…potentially also be because of something that one of her classmates said about Paulo. Granted, she didn’t listen, but at the same time, it could be subconsciously in the back of her mind, which could be a reason as to why she jumped.

and Paulo had no lasting concussion or head trauma whatsoever.

I think Jazz is sad in the last panel because she feels bad that she doesn’t ever get to spend time with Paulo.
