Yes, happier mood!
It was getting all intense and dramatic.

It is a little sad to think that this is all just an alternate universe/ Paulo’s daydream, rather than an actual continuing storyline, though. But I’m at least glad I got a glimpse of it, it really is interesting.

The boy needs to be hit a little, I think. Although with this timeline, everything really is Lucy’s fault more than anybody. I don’t think hitting her would help much. Might make her less pregnant depending on where she’s hit and how pregnant she is at the time.

It’s adorable how Daisy is the one he brings up while he’s worrying out loud. Actually, the way all the characters are so adorable makes me a little uncomfortable when they’re portrayed in more serious situations (read: sex and violence) A 15-16 year old would be about as tall as the dad there, he’s closer to 12-13 by height alone.

I just found this comic like a week ago and I’m SO freaking happy that I sat down and decided to read this. I’m astonished at how quickly I connected with like every character here and I can’t freaking wait to continue to read this awesome story! Thank you so much Taeshi for giving us this wonderful comic!!!!

I really want to see more of Paulo’s dad in future strips. He is such a realistic character that I can relate to!

Paulo freaking out is fantastic.

Aaaaaand here comes the serious talkin’ to…with the possible addition of a few well-placed clonks to the noggin.

I know full well an actual pregnancy for Lucy would be an entirely different animal all together…but with the tender care she shows Yashy and her other ‘children’ I can’t help but feel that Lucy would pull through rather nicely in such a situation, provided she had some support, of course, and at this point I think Paulo’s proven that he’d do the right thing in all of this… I’m not saying he’d wind up all-out marrying her, though it’s not entirely out of the question…it just seems to me that he’d be there for the kid and for Lucy through all of it. Bah, but listen to me speculating on what is already a non-canon event.

On a slightly less ridiculous note: all of this ‘Paulo’s Dad’ action has got me wondering about the other character’s parents. We’ve seen Abbey’s, as well as Sandy’s mom, and now we’re getting a look at Paulo’s dad…I’ll admit to some curiosity about the others, though I suppose they’ll only show up as the story dictates.

Either way, I suppose I’ll stifle myself for now. Got me chewing at the bit for the next page, as always, Taeshi.

I love the fact that Paulo’s dad, kept his cool and was ok with everything… Up until the last panel that is. I love the realism of the charter, but I’m a little scared to see what he’ll say on Monday.

@Iris The wait to find out is going to be worse then just this weekened. Who knows how long it will be before Lucy actually takes the test. We could get two sub story lines before that even happens:
-Lucy goes to buy the test and something happens/ she meets someone on the way.
-We get to see paulo’s punishment

And I just know that Taeshi is going to make the last panel, in one of the upcoming pages, Lucy looking at the test she just took and we will have to wait a few more days before we get the results.

Well this sure will get interesting as it keeps going, even when this is all in Paulo’s head he sure can imagine a very realistic Lucy.

Why is it, when people bring up Paulo/Lucy kittens, and they come up with names for them, they just combine Paulo and Lucy’s names? No one does that, and if Lucy were pregnant, the last thing she would name her kid is Pucy, Plucy, Luulo, Laulo, Paucy, or any variation. (though, admitly, Pauly might work, if you actually spelled it right ie. Polly)

@cats4ever98 It’s hardly imaginative to combine the names of the parents to come up with a child’s name. And I only brought it up because it feels like I can’t go one update without someone doing that. I was nonchalant about it at first, but when everytime someone guesses the baby’s name it’s a combination of Paulo and Lucy, it’s irritating.

@Patches; Even though the chapter ends in 3 weeks and 1 day doesn’t mean the daydream is going to last for the next ten pages. Who knows, maybe the daydream will end on the next page and the continuing pages will be about how Paulo realized what a good decision he had done.

I actually believe this whole chapter will remain being a daydream but there still is a possibility that this could be second last page of this “alternative reality”.

@Sonic Fan, I think it depends on the ‘breed’ of the cat, and also on what they inherited from their parents. Some cats have hair to work with, others don’t, or, like in Sue’s case, she grew hair eventually. I think if they have the patience to grow it out, some cats could. Other cats, like Lucy, just don’t grow hair. Same goes for males (Paulo’s the only guy with a lot of hair on his head).

Whether a cat or dog has hair or not doesn’t really matter in the BCB world. Either way is pretty much accepted and unquestioned by everyone. ^^

@snake: I think you are a bit too entrenched in the comedic value of the comic to really grasp how stupid it sounds when you say “it would be awesome sauce to be involved with this.”

A. The only thing more awkward than telling your dad you may have impregnated someone at the age of 14 is to admit that there was a third party involved, especially if the third party is also male.
B. If she actually was pregnant you would look like a huge douche and I’m pretty sure most people would deassociate themselves from you for being that big of a dick.
C. Who REALLY wants to be involved in teen pregnancy? That’s just really weird and borderline pedophilic.

Alec (McCain) seems like an important tertiary character. He pops up more than most characters, has a close relationship to a secondary character, Susan, but he is sort of a background kind of guy. Also, this chapter is in Paulo’s head. Chill.

Why is it that so many people think that cutely drawn cartoon characters can’t have important or serious messages to put forth…? I don’t get it…

It’s like saying babies are cute, therefore they are never abused…

So it’s about talking cats and dogs… maybe it’s easier to draw cats and dogs and doesn’t step on nearly as many racial toes as normal people would be… For that matter there is the aspect of clothing… it is largely ignored, most likely due to cloth making everything harder to draw…

Regardless of whether this chapter is canon to the plot or not, it is still an important chapter.

To say ‘it doesn’t exist’ is a cop-out. It may not happen to talking cats, but this happens to millions of high school and some middle school students each year.

It’s a comic about things that didn’t happen exactly this way… The reason people treat it seriously is because in this case it is meant to be serious.


More importantly… why do people, myself included, feel such a need to -argue- over how the comic should be treated?

I have a feeling this semi-peaceful dream will turn into a nightmare by the end of the chapter.

You mean O Fortuna from Carmina Burana? Although i remember it being used for a LoTR trailer, it really has very little to do with that franchise. It’s far too often pulled entirely out of context to just make a trailer that much more epic.
