I think this comics and that chapter might be what Paulo is referring to here, and also might explain why Abbey is on the warpath. At least, that’s the only thing I can think of.

Also, it seems Mike and Lucy never really talked about what was said that day, oh my.

Mike is mad at Lucy for all the abuse she’s given him despite how much kindness he’s given her. In idiomatic form, bitterness vs sweetness. Mike’s fed up with Lucy’s unappreciative attention and loses all hope with him and her. Lucy, with hearing what Abbey’s speech is about and how it relates to her acting towards Mike, she feels relent when she notices how both Zachary and Abbey are correct in what is happening in the relationship.

Mike may be overacting a tad, but don’t hate him completely; he had to deal with Lucy acts of proving herself over Mike for years even though he did not want it, and I think that’s being a true friend having to be that patient. Also, he still has hope for Sandy and he doesn’t want to lose any hope with her by distrusting their relationship, which is rocky in itself.

Lucy’s insecurities and her not being able to fit in with either of the genders are also gives a reason to why she was so clung to Mike in a negative fashion. He is the only one that doesn’t judge her for liking things that boys like, e.g. video games and racing, but she doesn’t also want him to leave her for acting too feminine, which is why she always tries to prove herself towards Mike.

Now that I just posted this four paragraph explanation about what’s happening between Mike AND Lucy, can we please stop placing this argument on one side and see what BOTH of them have done wrong?

Paulo, stop being a jerk and go back to being a cute couple with Jasmine ~.~ You yourself are being a bully and Sue is being a bully and a hypocrite (she’s the REAL dictator!)

In shortened sense,

Mike is too clung to Sandy and doesn’t try to move on….

Lucy is too clung to Mike and can’t try to be nice to him, afraid that he might not like her due to the fact that she likes both boy things and girl things….

Both need to try to solve their relationship problems gently and never with any stern actions, like fighting which they have done already…

Both need to at least make up their relationship as friends, because love cannot be something to be forced upon, it has to happen naturally, like with Daisy and Abbey…

This would be under an entirely new school constitution he would draft himself.

I’d like to say this, in Abby’s defence. Paulo spoke out of turn, and he was swearing. Now unless the WHOLE election is student run, then there should be at least one teacher in the adutorium during the debate. Now I don’t know the schools polices but I know my schools polices. And I live in America. Based even roughfly on my schools rules, foul language HAS to be in there. So Paulo would be imediatly nailed, unless the staff is lazy, dosent care, or absent all together. All of those circumstances are highly unlikely. Abby shoudent have shut Paulo up like that, or used him as an example, but none the less, Paulo would get in to some trouble there.

Not to mention that there blowing this WWWAAAAAYYYYYYYYY out of porportion. There running for secratary, of the president, of the class. All the president can do is suggest things to the principal. All HE can do is suggest stuff to what ever higher rank is in the american school system. So olny if the presidents from a HUGE majority of the schools in a state suggest one idea to the principal and all of those principals decide to send it up the ladder, THAT is where and when changes are made. So unless all the secrataries have a universal mind meld, and then win, and all of those presidents decide to listen to there secrataries, then they have a chance at changing something. But that chance is so minute that they don’t really have a chance at all.


So baiscly, all of this frendship-ruining argument is truly pointless.

depends on one’s definition of a bully…clearly Daisy’s look causes Paulo’s behaviour to change in a way that he doesn’t seem to like….what would something like that do to him over time? I guess to me a dictator seems somewhat synonymous with a bully…although a former definition might disagree but that is how I feel.

@cracktastic - if you read the archives you’ll see that Abbey often attacked bullies, and that he was violent. He almost punched FF-Cat too, and in some weired way, Abbey is the bully’s bully….

Politics may never work with bullies, but the fact is that the kind of policy Abbey is advocating- zero-tolerance- also does not work, and in fact, does the opposite of what it is intended to do. If the only response by authorities is to inflict the maximum punishment, undesirable behavior is actually escalated, rather than subdued: If they’ll be expelled anyway, then they may as well get expelled for a good reason.

The thing that makes me saddest is that the example Abbey uses- that of the abandoned building- does not support his argument of massive retaliation. Rather, it would support a proactive approach of intervening before bullying begins. Abbey is a smart guy, and I really would have thought he would realize that.

I think Daisy is incredibly fixated on Abbey like she once was with Mike. She might not even agree with him on his policies and her scaring Paulo into silence might be a part of not wanting to be rejected by the one she is fixated on.

All Abbey has to do now is ask what Sue is gonna do about the bullying system. He really skrewed up with the reaction to Paulo and instead should’ve used him as an example to help his cause. Since Sue hasn’t actually countered his argument with a better way of doing things, right now I’m voting for Abbey because he’s at least trying to do something.

@Baeleox It’s a logical fallacy to assume that doing something about a problem is always better than doing nothing about the same problem. As I stated, the policy that Abbey is advocating will cause events to escalate faster. They may also cause bullying to take on less physical, less obvious forms that are much more difficult for the system to handle by any means other than escalate the retaliatory actions further, ultimately leading to a break-down of the system and confrontation between opposing factions: In other words, what Abbey is advocating is essentially the beginning of an arms race.

Addendum due to Fridge Horror:
Abbey is a pacifist, but it’s been established that in the past he has used violence against bullies, which conflicts with his pacifist views. However, putting a policy in place, at least advocating heavily for it, where bullying is punished immediately by the harshest method possible within the system, he will suddenly have a way to enact nonphysical violence on those he perceives as bullies (whether or not they actually are), in the form of what could be considered terrorism, without incurring cognitive dissonance by violating his own world view.

The reason she’s attacking Abbey the way she is leads me to believe that her own plan to deal with it (because she seems like she does in fact, have a plan) is far more progressive than Abbey’s smoke screen argument (as I said earlier, the example he gives of the abandoned building does not support his reactionary argument, but a far more proactive one).

Regardless of a bully’s excuse it’s never acceptable to be violent to an innocent.” He’s glaring because she’s been abusive to him and their friends for so long, and he’s made out to be the bad guy for not wanting to put up with it anymore.
