Ugh i kinda feel for Paulo right now - when on a hike a girl was about to throw up but she also was about to pass out so we had o carry her about 3-4 miles up and down hills while she tried not to blow chunks on us—-I’ll never loAsher hot cheetoes the same ever again- she is now my good friend- i wonder what relationship Paulo will get himself into eh? To me it seems your achieving your goal of making it more you. I hope you dont end up on hiatus like a few of my comics i would miss this too much. Poor kid. Hah. Now we see that Paulo really is a nice guy, and I can actually admire him. He’s been developing quite nicely as that vagabon-esque, almost a Riddick figure (Minus the killing, aliens, blood, blades, and shaving his head with space-grease and a metal shard.) . You know, a total badass, but has that sweet spot. Like Vin Diesel. (See end of 1st Chronicles of Riddick for reference.) Okay, so maybe that’s all BS, but he’s like Han-Solo then. So take your pick. Riddick Paulo? Or Han Paulo?

Point is, Paulo has developed from a two dimensional, almost background character, whose main ideas and lines were centric of just poor character, to a deeper, fully three dimensional character that many, myself included, know and love. The same goes for a great many characters in the series.

HOWEVER!!!

I hate to say it, but I’m still voting MikeXLucy. I like the ‘ship; what can I say? I’ll vote MikeXLucy until the end of the series, or at least until she really makes a choice. I wish the guy would get his head out of his rear, though. Sandy’s not comin’ back. And I’ll believe that too, until I see something else!

And even if she does, who knows if she bears bad news, or just is just there to spend time with her “friend Mike,” which, as it turns out was all he ever was to her and he was just deluded!?

Aww, Paulo is such a nice guy, really. But he is somehow a guy of bad luck. I really hope it will get better for him, because he definately deserves it.

I think I just got the purpose of the whole chapter. It’s Hot Persuit all over again. Or rather, Hot Persuit focused on Mike and his inability to let go of what he saw as the perfect thing, the pinacle of what there is to attain. The blue scarf there wasn’t so subtle, could spot it a mile off. Blue Scarf was the symbol for their love together. I miss Blue Scarf. Yellow and orange is his blissful ignorance. Certainly needs LESS OF THAT.

But that’s the one way back when. This one is about Lucy. It’s titled “Carry Me.” While it does show how much of a trooper Paulo is, and at points it’s being comical, it’s purpose is to really show how weak she is. Good use of symbolism, Taedrie. Her sickness is the symbol for her dependance. Without Mike she’s helpless. She doesn’t know what to do. She’s dazed, she doesn’t think straight. She’s blind to Paulo as she was to Mike before him, she can’t see he’s the one who’s helping her so much. As equally funny and disgusting as it is, her vomit is also a symbol: her anger, painting the one who’s helping her the most nasty colors, more involuntary relief of her discomfort and awkwardness than anything else, a real and definite sign of her inner weakness.

This is leading up to Augustus and his boss. I know it is.

it’s just getting REALLY dull and predictable, you need to just give up on all the lucy x paulo teasings and bring mike and sandy back into the picture, reveal sandy to be a prostitute, break mike’s heart, have lucy comfort him, and then throw them in bed together and bring an end to things.

Shut it. If you don’t enjoy the comic, don’t read it. Quit being an annoying critic and go fly a kite. The rest of us enjoy this comic and think it’s really well made. In regards to the “inconsistency” you claim is here, might I remind you that this comic is baised off of high school life and high school relationships? The way the plot line twists and turns is completely true to the way high school is.
Don’t try to give her advice, because this is her comic and she can do as she pleases. If you think you can do any better, go make your own.

I really like the way this chapter is going, and I can’t wait until Monday!

BTW, short animations seem to be popular these days, though I wouldn’t suggest you give them lines, just gesture sounds (like laughing, groans, Hmph!!!’s and Harumph!!!’s, and the like.). Wonder what Paulo would sound like…

@V Paulo always genuinely liked her since they first met, he just puts up a “macho man” act and makes it look like hes only interested in her body. This isnt the first time we’ve seen him caring dearly for Lucy (her body is just a bonus).

First panel and last panel are totally cute! They fit so well together. I think you do well on drawing ill/sick people because Lucy really reflects how you look like when you’re ill. She looks like she’s in so much pain poor girly

Why else would Ch.59 exist if Lucy and Paulo are going to end up with each other anyway? By “alternate reality” you kind of imply that the canon reality will differ from this alternate one. In this case, you imply that Lucy and Paulo will NOT end up with each other. And that really made me sad, because I WANT them to end up together… At the very least, I hope they are boyfriend and girlfriend for a decent-length of time in canon-time before the comic ends. That’s the very least that I ask.

I don’t remember Sue recognizing Sandy from anywhere.

Uh…the suicide thing is a bit much. I hope none of the characters go emo and start hurting themselves. With that said, someone might actually die. Let’s not forget Alejandro’s plan for revenge. Lucy and Mike are obvious targets. Hell, other characters might end up being held as hostages and be held for ransom. I hope no one dies, but it IS a possibility…

Well mister Thanatos (the name sounds familiar) yes, it may not be cannon for them to be together in the long run, but it doesnt mean that there arent such things as temporary hook ups. what about the side of high school that includes stupid little one-week relationships, or short flings that result in nothing or something regrettable?

And yes, there are such things as school shootings, and there might be one in the future of the comic, but I went through my whole high school life without encountering a school shooting, so it isn’t as common as one might think. There are those schools that don’t have the school shootings, or even the periods of time that don’t encounter that sort of thing.

People do get hit, but not everyone that gets hit will die, and who’s to say that this group will have a direct connection to the person that gets hit. Maybe they will be affected indirectly by such a thing, and it creates a domino effect.

Not all character development is created through negative means, and it’s a sign of a talented writer to go beyond such a constraint that bad things must always happen to create character development. And if you take note, some bad things have happened to some of the characters to shape who they are; and who says that bad things haven’t already happened to these characters, but they haven’t been discovered for the sake of the story.

But that doesn’t mean that someone won’t die, or something like that happen. Paulo and Lucy may not be the end result, but who says that they can’t go into that for a short while? That may in of itself cause a chain reaction with Jazzy getting back at Lucy for being a ‘home wrecker’. This could cause Paulo to distance himself from Lucy, because of the guilt he feels, and then that causes a split in their relationship further down the road, which causes a spiraling downwards effect of the whole group.

This all being said, if you feel like this isn’t right, make your own story, or something. Veronica is doing an amazing job with the comic as a whole, and it’s getting better as time goes on. She has plans, and I intend to watch it to the very end at the tip of my seat.

As for the page: still love how you use emotions with the tails, you get them spot on. paulo’s such a sweetheart, going so far as to carry the sickly lucy all the way to the bathroom. maybe this experience will show paulo how lucky he is with jazzy (god forbid) or maybe it’ll show how much he truly is needed by lucy. *shrug* time will tell.

You need to write a book or something entitled “The Making of Bittersweet Candy Bowl”. The story planning sounds like a very complicated process. So “A Distance Apart” was never suppose to happen at all? Things sound like they change from left to right like nothing. Well, I’m glad. If said things can happen, I can still cross my fingers for PauloxLucy…

Here’s a question, though. You say some events are solidified into the story and can’t be changed no matter what? But everything in between those said events are up for grabs? Well, I’m curious. That kind of process sounds like you could potentially write yourself into a lot of corners, possibly delaying or even contradicting said solidified events entirely. I can speak from personal experience that that happens all the freaking time. Have you ever had to skip a solidified event entirely and just go on without it, or at least delay it for like 20 something chapters?
