Guess Mike is somewhat admitting he felt lonely all this time. I know how that feels, most of my games are single player only. Haven’t had any friends come over frequently for years.

On the other hand, there’s a slight chance of my guess still coming true. Sandy breaks up with Mike due to pressure from her mother, causing Mike to sink deeper into depression. If that were the case and Lucy attempted to help, Mike would either refuse or lash out at her. Not physically of course.

I wouldn’t call Sandy a worthless piece of crap character. She doesn’t have a lot of depth as of yet and she seems a little too ideal, but she’s not a horrible character.

Lucy’s done some pretty mean things to Mike and others so I don’t see how she’s 400% better than Sandy. I prefer Lucy, but I don’t hate Sandy with all my heart.

Although her hair creeps me out just a bit. For some reason, Tess’ hair was fine to me, but Sandy’s hair really freaks me out. I don’t even know why.

Anyways, I think it’d be better if you refrained from calling any character here a worthless piece of crap. It isn’t nice to Taeshi at all. That’s actually very insulting to her; to call her work something like that.

It’s fine if you don’t like Sandy, but don’t call her a horrible character just because you’re a LucyxMike fan.

This is one of the most exciting moments for me reading this comic. I just hope it’s not going to end the way I think it’s going to end… Because I don’t think the relationship between Mike and Lucy is going to be fixed just like that. I mean, I believe they’ve got some talking to do! You can’t avoid your problems/feelings by playing videogames… But at least it’s a good start.

I have the feeling that Sandy is gonna cause Mike to completely ignore Lucy, until she gets sick of it and just leaves. Maybe Mike won’t even notice she left until he’s off the phone again. But I hope it won’t be as bad as that (or worse!)

Plus, I agree that Sandy is not a ‘crap’ character. Sure, she seems very perfect, but we haven’t really met her, yet. To Mike she is perfect too. But I’ve learned from the long-distance relationships I had, is that people can be so different in real life… (not talking about the freaks or perverts here). Don’t get me wrong, I love that they’re being friends again but I love it when Sandy gets even a little bit of comic time. =3

Lucy was the only reason he played games and had so much fun doing so… so I guess that thought struck a chord. Panel 7 and 8 really shows how confused and conflicted Mike is right now….

I honestly hope that he does what is best for himself, Lucy and Sandy… He’s clinging on to this childhood dream and hasn’t even had face to face interaction with Sandy in so long… He hardly knows her (even if he talks for an hour a day or so with her, its nothing compared to the amount of time he has spent with Lucy… He knows Lucy’s persona like the back of his hand… )

Gee, Lucy, I gotta give ya more credit. I gotta turn down a notch my jaded skepticism, it’s proving to be somewhat unrealistic.

It seems already apparent that things will turn for the ungainly, like some cosmic conspiracy or mad joke, but we must count this as some note worthy success! This whole scene is filling me with poignant delight!
Lucy sure knows as heck how to get through Mike’s coy but seemingly stonewall defence, which he fashioned entirely in the scheme of douche stone masonry.

I’m a couple-agnostic, and not particularly keen on MikeXLucy, but dagnamnit! This scene is very lopsided. Let it be platonic love! because as far as I can tell that’s no fleeting puppy love (or kitty love ;P). Nor are they in the whimsical state of being ‘in love’. For how can it be? They’ve just been through the wars! They have something much deeper, one that goes far back… What they have between them is that divisible line that marks and joins two opposite halves of a brain. But I’ve heard of brains denying itself. Like mine (uncontrollably drools like a dunce).

Anyway the phone is ringing… and it’ll sure be anti-climatic (and possibly funny) if it’s not you know who. atleast not yet. hehe

The most likely thing (although there’s a pretty good chance of it being subverted) would be for Mike to answer and it end up being Sandy, and then either A) He turns into an ******* again , or B) the power of Video Games allows him to play with Lucy -and- talk to his beloved Sandy.

I’ma go ahead and leave this theory here, but what if Mike checked the phone, saw that it was Sandy…… but decided to let it ring and play another round with Lucy? That could lead to some -epic- drama, possibly even more than Jerk Mike returning…

Edit: Also I meant did he ever show up after Return. I’m fairly certain that’s the chapter he tells Lucy he’ll be there for her somehow when Mike abandons her.

The phone call seems so ominous that it brings to mind something I’ve been mulling over for a while now: is Sandy is going to die? She is set up almost like a Mary-Sue. (Seriously. She’s the “perfect” girl with a “cutsie” speech impediment. She’s -more- beautiful than the beautiful female lead. The male lead is madly in love with her. She never does anything wrong. Her parents are rich and she’s a model. Etc..) And frankly, everything I’ve read so far suggests that Taeshi is too good of a writer to have a Mary-Sue character. So! That leaves us with some future badstuff involving Sandy. The two options that come most readily to mind are a fall from grace (made more poignant by her previous goodness) or a tragic end (the classic “death of a mockingbird.”) A tragic end would be more interesting, given the way it would affect the characters. So… yeah. It’ll be interesting to see how everything plays out.

Now that you say that, I’m not sure! lol It could be intentional. But I assumed it wasn’t because she started doing it when she was so young. I just don’t picture “being cutesy” as being at the forefront of an early elementary school child’s mind.

I can see this playing out two ways:

Sooner ending:
Taeshi has been dropping hints that Lucy might kill herself for quite a while now. She drove the point home recently in the scene at the library (my best guess: just to make sure no one missed the more subtle groundwork she laid earlier). With that in mind, this phone call (or some future event) could drive a wedge between Lucy and Mike again. Lucy, feeling alone and ostracized with the comment about her “uselessness” still fresh in her mind, takes her own life. Mike is left reeling. He is angry. He feels responsible. His friends blame him. He turns to Sandy. Sandy (fall from grace moment) responds by turning on Lucy. (Remember, we aren’t privy to the conversations they’ve been having. We don’t know how Sandy feels about Lucy at this point.) Mike is devastated. In his final coming of age epiphany (at least, for our story) he realizes that he has been making up stories about himself and the people around him (remember what he said at the Christmas Party and what he said to Abby when we found out about Abby’s mom). He resolves to listen and see people for who they are rather than for who he finds it convenient for them to be.

Later ending:
Sandy is killed. (In an auto accident or an airplane crash, maybe?) Since she was perfect and died before having the chance to ever become human, so she becomes a symbol. She is the symbol for all that was good and beautiful and wonderful in Mike’s life. He falls into a deep depression. Many chapters follow.

Sandy is now replaced by Lucy in Mike’s mind.I mean they are so close to k1$$ing.GET IT OVER WITH AND K1$$ ALREADY!!!

I think Lucy just wants their friendship back and for mike not to hate her. I don’t think she’s really looking for love from him even though she loves him. It’s going to get really awkward and frustrating really quick for Mike and Lucy… I can feel it, not even video games can stop their drama!

Mike doesn’t seem very happy at all lately. Not saying it’s because of Sandy, but he’s pretty unhappy and grumpy lately. I don’t think Lucy is trying to hook up with Mike at this point either. I think she’s just trying to mend their broken friendship.

@MiscKitty, it would be interesting to the story if Sandy dies… but it would be so sad. And it would mean that MikexLucy could become a reality after somehow coping with the extreme angst and depression that Mike would be faced with. If that happens, Lucy would be definitely there the whole way through it trying to console mike.

Lucy killing herself would be even worse than Sandy dying tho imo… Not only will everyone blame Mike… But Mike would believe them as well since there was nothing he could do about it. He is but one person with one heart and to have so much chaos and disappointment to follow him his whole life… And then the story would jump to an epilogue, 3 years into the future or something where Mike is doing like some astrophysics degree or something while sandy continues her career and they try to make things work between them… and there would be no more BCB…

Naw, spicybleachedhead, Mike doesn’t quite fit the typical tsundere mold. He’s not one dimensional enough. hahaha
He’s just being inwardly torn and confused from being indecisive about his conflicting feelings for two girls. Remove Sandy from the equation, doubtless, Mike won’t behave this way towards Lucy. So it’s not an exact role reversal as you might imagine. Not to say Lucy is one dimensional of course, as she has indeed grown and developed as a character in quite a significant extent.
