All so goes the December chapter. A very entertaining one if I do say so myself, personally, I am a LucyXMicheal fan and I really want to see them together again. But, after reading this chapter. That was be impossible, since it’s very clear that both sides have choosen their actions very carefully and have no remorse for the other (except Lucy). Can’t wait to see what will happen next.

And this beatifully made yet painful chapter comes to a close. There is not much to be said at this point that hasn’t already so many times. Sad thing is we probably have a chapter that’s just as painful right after this.

If Mike bitches her out for the essay, I vote we burn him at the stake.

This feels a lot like an epilogue, where I would actually be satisfied if the story ended this way, what with it being open to interpretation. Then again, I would very much enjoy this to be continued, since this is one of my top 5 web comics.

hmmm, interesting conclusion to the chapter. so in a sense she’s putting distance between herself and mike now. if i’m understanding the symbology correctly of her running with the part of the past conversation “From a distance” being in the same panel. she’s basically gonna do what augustus is doing with Daisy (although the fact he’s watching her from the shadows regardless of the context still comes off as creepy and a bit stalkerish). well hopefully the next chapter won’t be 30+ pages of everyone being melodramatic and commenters screaming at each other.

Wow, just realizes that Lucy is now in Augustus relationship-to-Daisy situation. I hope what that means in they coming chapters. :-|

neither side of this argument has been wrong, if you look at the facts both sides are right.

Lucy supporters are correct in that mike was harsh in his methods, but the truth in his words can not be denied.

mike supporters are correct that mike was in his own perpetual hell, but it was one he created for himself by not confronting his own instincts on the matter.

so nobody is in denial of the facts, the only ones in denial are the one’s on either side who say that neither of them did anything deserving of a confrontation.

Hm… I just thought of something; if Lucy’s taking Agustus advice to heart, and will now (try to) put some distance between herself and Mike, does this mean that LUCY’S going to be the one who’ll actually slowly leave the group/group table in Mike’s place in the end? And save Mike the trouble? I mean, it’s actually surprising to actually think that (at least to me), but seeing this I can’t help but wonder if that’s what’s actually going to happen…..

I’m holding out hope for Mike, however bleak it may be. With that said, I still believe that he should get what he deserves for everything he has put and is putting Lucy through. I hold no sympathy for Mike right now. I learned that there should be a little hope held for someone who’s lost due to Daisy’s experience earlier in the comic. I just hope that something horrible doesn’t happen to anyone later on due to how Mike has been acting.

Geez. The sheer stupidity of Mike’s cruelty. Mike all but forgot about Sandy until that situation in that city, then suddenly he’s “LOL NOPE” to Lucy for the rest of eternity.

Seriously moving page, could really feel Lucy’s pain there! but thought there might be more story to it before Lucy finished the Essay. (At least an angry phone call or something. I really wanted to know what she did with Mikes phone)

Seems as though there isn’t a way to repair this friendship at the present time, not with Sandy in the picture. And if Mike were to leave the table group in the new chapter (Because of Lucy), i highly doubt anyone will follow.

This webcomic really grips me…

It pains me to stay up late only to see Mike being so cruel and Lucy pouring out her heart like paint. She loves him and needs him and, at a time, he felt that way, too.
I miss staying up and reading the update on their precious moments of smiles and pure horseplay and happiness. Sandy swept Mike up while Lucy watched them brainwash each other. Also, notice how in the ’ About ’ section, the ” Do Mike and Lucy end up together ? ” question is there.
And the answer switches from ’ Yes ’ to ’ No ’ . I can’t wait for the day it says just ’ Yes ’ . Lucy desperately needs and loves Mike and I know somewhere, deep down, he feels the same.

Lucy has reached somewhat of an acceptance stage mixed in with another break-down… poor girl…

Hopefully this is what Mike’s thinking: “Wow… she did GOOD on this thing.”

Mike, you’re a ****ing **** **** ****y **** *** **** **** who **** **** **** **** mother****er **** **** with a bucket **** ***** ****.

Now… I’m expecting alot of TL;DR reaction to this. Heh, it’s almost 2am where I’m at, and I can’t sleep, so here it goes.
Now some thoughts:

Is the essay hand writen? If so, wouldn’t it be possibly suspecious when it seems to be done entirely in one hand and one style of writing? That would be interesting to see what sort of reaction Mike would have if the teach asked the question… or marked it down because it appeared that way. Then (if you think about it) would almost be Mike’s fault if you break it down (they wouldn’t have been paired together in the first place if he didn’t say anything, then she wouldn’t have written it all herself if it wasn’t for this… incident). That’s assuming that it was well written as it was and passed. Another odd thought would be, Would there be any reaction from Mike if suddenly the essay actually got an A+ or something exceptional like that. I would hope he’d feel a touch guilty about something like that (I personally would feel guilty about letting someone else’s work do that as is, without emotionally attacking them beforehand).

Then about the whole reaction Lucy may have. I don’t think she’d necessarilly “leave” the table per se. She may keep her distance away from Mike and go that rout. In my oppinion, if she stepped away from the table and started sitting away from the group, that may bring in alot of unneccessary attention to the situation. Certain friends would end up at least approaching her and asking her what’s going on to have her sit away. Granted, depending on if she answers truthfully or has a little white lie to prevent damaging Mike’s reputation there are two possibilities. If she tells the truth that she’s giving Mike some distance and why, it would make a scene and would more likely make a fisure / devide between the group Mike thinks his “superstar” status would bring and those true friends of Lucy. If Lucy tells a little white like to protect Mike’s reputation, then the two groups would naturally separate but not “fisure.” Then the third (“do nothing”) option is that she leaves it to Mike to leave and let him explain things, maybe give him room up until then. So your really left with three things that could happen there. An option to get back without being direct and cause further damage between friendships, an option to protect other friendships but cause the separations, then let Mike do it himself. All of those have their own possibilities.

Then other thoughts that come in, now what I’m approaching with that is I don’t think he necessarilly truely “hates” her. More I fear that he’s been influenced by Sandy and is really trying to “shove” lucy away to prevent problems between him and Sandy, by now saying “Lucy won’t be bothering me anymore” to Sandy. Now, so many things could come in and make that dynamic interesting. That would grow especially interesting if Sandy started to ask questions on “how” did he get rid of her? I’m certain he wouldn’t say exactly how that happened. But I’d certainly hope Mike get’s Chris’s and Haley’s stories straight. We didn’t see how sensitive his sister’s hearing was, but we certainly did see that Chris’ little ears are quite sensitive. Since he’s so young, he wouldn’t necessarilly understand the details, but it would be an interesting dynamic to see Sandy and Mike’s family together, then Chris saying things about what he thought about Lucy, that he doesn’t think Lucy’s going to visit anymore, and how Mike got Lucy to leave him alone. Now THAT would be a fun series of pages to read, especially the fallout.

And another fact of the matter, even if you dislike someone, or hate them… you still actually miss them to some extent. I don’t really think Mike truely “hates” Lucy, as I said before, but how would he react if Lucy ended up just “watching from a distance” in a sence and becoming nothing more than a shadow in his life. There are some cases where that would be a void, and would love to see how Mike would really react to a week without really seeing someone he was used to having almost always around. Granted, they’re at a turblent age, where such voids open and close all the time… but that may even make the void made by having a “long distance girlfriend,” seem all the larger in many cases.

Just a bunch of my thoughts… Can’t wait to see the next series and get an idea of what will happen next. Great writing and art!

So much happened in this chapter… A glimmer of hope and then rock bottom. Runs parallel to my life right about now. I hope it starts getting happy again so I can be too. I love this comic because of it’s writing and the personality that it imbues into the characters that bring it to life. It’s almost reflective of we as people dealing with petty problems that blow up into catastrophes because one person wants to be stubborn or close-minded. This is why I started reading two years ago. I love this comic for what it reminds me of and how it does it. Congratulations, Taeshi. You’re wonderful and you make such wonderful thoughts come alive.

You know what makes this a good story? The fact that both teenagers such as myself (16) and adults find this story amazing. Yeah I can be deep sometimes. By the by happy anniversiry Taeshi and Souppy. Have Souppy take ya somewhere nice for dinner Veronica.

If, for some crazy reason in the far off future, Mike expects to have a relationship with Lucy. It won’t happen.

I just feel so heartbroken for the poor girl right now. Just as she starts to better herself as a person, Mike regresses to this angry, remorseless person. True, both of them had done wrong to each other, but right now I really just can’t see Mike as a favorable character. Lucy is becoming a better person and striving toward maturing and growing up a bit, even now, after someone has completely and deliberately stripped away every piece of self esteem she had and even threatened- no, promised- to make sure that he takes all her friends with him. Mike doesn’t just want to bravely white-knight against Lucy so that his little princess can stop crying; a part of him wants some good sweet revenge too. Nothing would make him happier than seeing everyone he knows not even bothering to acknowledge Lucy in the hallways; he’d love nothing more than to see her sitting alone one day in a corner so he can give a small, satisfied “Hmph” before turning away and resuming his polar-fluffy-hearted texting.

Honestly, I hate that face of his in the last panel. Even after everything he told her, even after she’s completed a project he didn’t even have to lift a FINGER for, he’s still staring at her work with this self righteous disdain. What would have made you even the slightest bit remorseful of your damage, Mike? Having her packaged head attached to the homework?

I can bet you now, that even after all this, he’s STILL going to try and make sure that everyone leaves to his table. I bet even now he still thinks that Lucy deserves to go die in a hole all by herself. .___.

I don’t ever want to read a chapter with him again. From now on, I’ll only be interested in chapters involving Lucy’s continued developing independence and gaining healthy friendships from it.

Huzzah! I’m happy to see this chapter ending, if only because it concludes on a happy note. Lucy WILL wise up from this, she’ll recover and be stronger, and best of all, she received the shock that so many need to jerk them out of their lull and into reality. Mike’s a dick, that much is certain and karma will get him too, but as far as I’m concerned, Lucy came out on top because she went through her trial, and she’ll be fine. Hardship is a fire that forges the soul. Lucy is a fighter. And I can’t wait to see her hang out with Augustus some more. He’s a wise little dude for a teenager. Blech, that sentence tasted all wrong coming out.

Fantastic chapter, definately one of the most powerfuland emotional, this series has reached an incredible climax that cant stop me from reading!

anyway, another overly snowy page… lovely, i’ll be glad when this is over with so i can finally see what’s going on, again.

i know how augustus and lucy feel, though… been through **** several times worse than what they’ve been through.

but, that isn’t a story for the comments page, so… ya-ta.

i wonder what the next chapter will be… hopefully it’ll cover the entire visit from sandy and we’ll get to see what happens when she interacts with everyone, and all that interesting crap.

For how immensely sad this chapter is, I feel its ended on a brighter note than what could have been. Almost feels like the comics name implies (a little more bitter, a bit less sweet though). While I don’t think Lucy has completely come to terms with this, I think she will become a stronger and better person from this.

I do fear the possibility of her finding someone new to stick to, which has really gotten her into this situation in the first place. At least, if she does stick to someone, hopefully its for all the right reasons.

I still think there is a chance for a MikexLucy situation, but as of now Lucy needs this to grow as a person and prove to mike that she can be the opposite of everything he stated.
In addition Mike needs to do some growing of his own, as well working on his slowly increasing anger issues.

Ugh! I can’t believe i was ever a Mike X Lucy fan! Sandy totally has him brainwashed! And how does Sandy not remember Lucy? Did anyone else find that odd? Anyways, i hope Paulo comforts her. He really likes her! Plus, his girlfriend almost seems like a background character. But if Mike can pull his life together and see what he did to poor Lucy, i’d probably get back on the Mike x Lucy bandwagon.

9 years? Wow that’s a long time! I’m happy for you two! Not a lot of people make that far in your age group. It’s a really awesome thing.

First of all: happy anniversary! Nine years is impressive, but I hope you two have many more.

Now back to the comic. I’m actually ‘proud’ of Lucy (as far as I can be proud of a fictional character), she really showed some strength and dignity in there, despite everything Mike said. Too bad she wasn’t given a chance to speak for herself, but it didn’t really seem like she wanted to. I still keep thinking she may have read his texts, thinking about what Augustus said. Maybe to see if he was really happy with Sandy.

I hope Lucy doesn’t leave ‘the table’ herself, it would only make things easier for Mike. Plus, I really want to see if he is able to convince everyone he’s right. I don’t think so. Also, Mike will probably have his karma handed to him too.

I have some advice for Mike.
Go with Lucy. He fell for Sandy first.
Then he fell for Lucy.
If he truly loved Sandy then he wouldn’t have fallen for Lucy at all.

WOO Augustus moment! Thank Taeshi for that! I just love when these kinds of sayings pop up. Way to end it off! A big sobstory involving Lucy and Mike. So my conclusion- augustus is here to stay, Lucy must make Mike pay, and Mike is completely gay.LOL

I agree with Syndicate, however seeing this from his Mike’s stand-point, he will never realize a thing. More over, I think Lucy, though she being a fictional character, may be able to pull through this. She’s put up with it in the past before, she’ll be able to survive somehow.

As far as Mike goes, I get the feeling he is going to pay the price and that price is going to be more heavy than what he loaded onto Lucy. Has he ever told Sandy about their relationship together? The kisses and flirts or even his confession after she left to where ever in the world she is? Has he ever given thought to why Sandy never remembers Lucy or given a second thought to WHAT he has done?

I think a web comic chapter on these memories and reflection would be rather interesting. The pieces are in-play, its just a matter of moving them.

Poor Lucy. Poor, poor Lucy. Mike’s just torn her heart to pieces and she still holds him in each and every shattered shard. Whether or not they mend their friendship, or they diverge forever, I doubt Lucy’s ever going to truely let go of him-I just hope heartbreak doesn’t define her as the story goes on.

Final Fantasy Cat’s words are gonna become more significant as things progress, I bet. I hope he doesn’t corrupt Lucy.

uhm… I think that, when sandy comes, one day she will encounter lucy (without recognising her, naturally) and have a nice talk with her about mike. then, the next time she meets mike, she will tell him what lucy said and ask “do you know that girl?”. at that point, there will be two possibilities:
1: mike says “it’s lucy” while regretting a bit having thought about her as such a bad person. sandy would be a bit confused and ****** about how mike always talked about lucy on the phone;
2: he lies and says he doesn’t know her or lies about her name. sandy finds out the truth later, thanks to the other guys, and mike gets in a big trouble.

Mike just told Sandy about how he’d annoyed Lucy and that she’d hurt him; Sandy was the first one to say that she didn’t like Lucy because of how she hurt him.

I can personally relate to the feeling of such rejection, and although it’s true that you get an amount of satisfaction knowing that from afar you can see they’re smiling, nothing hurts more than wanting, but not having. I really pity Lucy. I mean I know she really pushed Mike away a lot in the past, but now that she’s finally come to her senses Mike is being a total idiot. I know that he’s already with Sandy and all, but seriously; they haven’t even SEEN each other in so long. Mike’s waited around for Lucy for so long, and now that she’s finally turned he doesn’t want her anymore; they’ve both treated one another pretty badly, I just can’t wait to see them finally work something out; I can’t help but feel they’d be even by now.

There’s a difference between being simply harsh and being a freaking monster, which is what Mike was doing, no doubt. He could have stopped at about halfway through that little tirade and would have left pretty much the same effect, but telling her that nobody loves her or that anyone who does only does so for shallow reasons? That goes way beyond simply putting Lucy in her place. She barfed from listening to all that for God’s sake!

People say very harsh things when they’re furious, but they don’t necessarily believe what they’re saying to be true. Sometimes people do it defensively because they feel so horrible that they want to bring someone else down so they don’t feel as bad.

For everyone who hates Lucy, she is very fragile and insecure and has to keep up an act of carelessness because she thinks that’s the only way she can hold onto her friends and people she likes.

I also can’t believe how Mike is behaving. For everyone who keeps saying that his actions in this chapter were brave and that Lucy deserves this- I disagree.

I mean, Mike has a right to tell Lucy how he feels about her, but not spend his days ignoring her in sullen silence and death stares. When all of the angst does come out, he spills the beans to Lucy like a d-bag. She doesn’t deserve all of your hate. After all, she did save Mike from Augustus in the fight, risked her own life to save him from the waterfall, traveled with him to find Sandy and forfeited a race to stand by him when he hurt his leg.

She’s not a total monster Mike. I’m not saying you need to love her- just have a little compassion

I think this is the first time I’ve really felt for Lucy, although admittedly it could be the fault of her fans that I never really cared. Very well done Taeshi, both the art and callback makes for a very heart-wrenching scene. Also, congratulations to you and Souppy.

I do hope Auggie and Lucy become super friends though. And i hope the next chapter is less angsty.

Okay, so I’ve been following this since the sixth page of “December” and I decided to wait until it was over before I commented on everything that came beforehand. (Btw, AWESOME that you’ve been together for so long! Best of luck in the future as well!!)

It started off really cute. All of the characters were different and I liked seeing them become more “real” as the chapters went on. When I first got to the part about Sandy, I was a little upset, because I was a MikexLucy fan. As time passed, though, I started to be okay with MikexSandy, even though it annoyed me when Mike mentioned her when Lucy was around when he KNEW that Lucy still liked him. But, it was okay, even if Mike’s distancing was a bit worrying.
I’m curious about PauloxTess. They went out for a while, didn’t they? And then, suddenly, they weren’t together and Paulo was pursuing Lucy again. And then he went out with those two juniors, and then went to Jas, who he’s with now. (It’s a really cute couple, too. <3) Throughout all of this, Tess is okay? That confused me a little since I didn’t really see a “breakup” there.
I do want to say, though, that “AU/flashback” chapter about Paulo and Lucy was absolutely heartbreaking, in the so-happy-and-touched-I’m-crying sort of way. I could go into HUGE detail about how much I love it. But it’s a not-going-to-happen moment, (as far as we know,) so I won’t touch on it too much. It took me a long time to get away from that chapter and move on to the next one. It’s one of those things that could stand alone, without the conversations with David at the beginning and end, and be absolutely wonderful.
…I’ve just realised that I don’t have as much to say as I thought I did, now that I’m actually writing this comment. Hm.

On to “December”.
I think that Mike is just being stubbornly mad. Kind of like when a child has to do something they don’t want to do and ignore their parents for the rest of the day. A little more on the extreme, though, of course. Lucy is just being the friend that has no idea that her friend hates her on that level and is really surprised when the anger comes.
(This is somewhat off-topic, but around the time that they started really fighting, I had just been doing a roleplay with someone. My character knew that something was wrong with his friendship with the other, but didn’t know what, and when he asked about it, he was both verbally and physically hurt by him. I found it kind of similar, and as they’re now just “acquaintances” of sorts, I’m hoping that the outcome won’t be too bad in Mike and Lucy’s case. c: )
As of now, I think that Sandy was right in what she was saying about how Lucy treats Mike, since she was never around to see it and didn’t know what exactly was going on, and Mike was right to listen to her opinion and think about it. At the same time, I wish Mike had been gentler with Lucy in his declaration of hate, because she’s going to be hurting for a long time. True, people don’t care about another’s feelings when they’re not on the best of terms, but it still hurts. I’m not going to put blame on anyone, since Mike took too long to act on his frustration, Sandy’s a bystander, and Lucy did hold Mike back at times.
But it bothers me that Sandy doesn’t remember Lucy when they used to be best friends, and that Mike used to have a crush on Lucy and now “hates” her. It’s just…annoying.
…I still am incredibly curious as to what might have been in the paper bag. I have a speculation that it’s nothing but the vomit, but you never know…
The ending of this chapter is amazing. It wasn’t resolved, but in a sense, it was. Nothing’s going to be the same anymore, and people are going to have to make decisions… I guess that’s what life is about.

While we’ve had a lot of angst for a while, I really hope we don’t go immediately into something kinda silly. That would break the mood.
I think that the issue should be addressed a while longer, with their friends. They’re going to notice the difference in both Mike and Lucy, once they all head back to school.
This is going to be a depressing Christmas for them…

That said, I’m really looking forward to Sandy coming. I want to see how she and Mike act around each other, and how everyone else takes it.
Maybe the cute things will come back later.
But for now…
Bring on the high school drama.

TAESHI I’M CRYING HERE.

Is this some wicked, dramatic, ridiculously interesting yet painfully unsatisfying form of love? I never thought I’d see the day that Lucy would just throw up, get up, and leave like that (quite literally). She was a Tsundere the likes of which I have never seen so beautifully portrayed, and her character is just shattered, broken into tiny pieces from the only person (possibly other than her pets and her family) she fully trusts and loves with all her heart. The brutal torment and painful decision, to me, is the lowest form of a pseudo-brave girl who tried her best, but failed. Her emotions will probably forever be locked in a cage, forced to only be the observer and never be able to interfere in a relationship between said person and his long-distance model girlfriend (who I personally do not trust).

The power of those few words from that wicked cat is like a carpet bombing of nuclear weapons on Lucy’s heart and I feel so damn bad yet strangely OK. To me, Lucy looks like she doesn’t want to (in fact, I seriously don’t think she needs to), but faces and boldly accepts, probably with finality, that Mike is simply happier without her feelings ruining his day. I hate Mike (maybe hate is too soft, loathe is more like it) because of the way he had to show it to her, the needlessly brutal words that he let go just to tell Lucy that her feelings are unnecessary to him and her presence a nuisance. This page is like an end to the ship I so love and cherish, and now it’s sinking faster that Creddie used to, if not already sunk like Creddie (and I am a Creddie fan, sadly). Lucy can finally move on, and start another chapter in her life, hopefully stronger (since I sincerely believe that she’s not the type to even contemplate suicide).

CONGRATULATIONS!!!. Excuse my spelling. Nine years is a looping time considering there are so many kim kardashian relationships nowdays… so this is awesome! I’m so happy for you and soupy and for the fact that I can comment on something non angst-y! Ummm let’s see, the dramatic effect on this page was beautiful and kind of reminded me of a movie and my head put all this back ground music for some reason. either way…. Veronica, and Oliver you guys are really lucky to have eachother!!! Now go make out in a fountain to add some dramatic movieness to this day hahaha.

Well no cliffy, which is fine, but it does leave off on a sour note despite the nice placement of Augustus’ own words of experience. It certainly is tough having the shortest straw in the deal but Lucy, I hope you bounce back and become a little more stronger. Hang in there kitty (ah…poor references).

I used to like Mike, but always liked Lucy better. Now I just hate Mike… But I think Abbey won’t like Mike for what he did. Neither will Paulo. But how will they know? Perhaps Lucy will leave the table and everyone will ask Mike why. Then there’s wondering what will happen between Lucy and Sandy…

It seems that Lucy is truly taking Augustus’ advice to heart, though you can tell it’s INCREDIBLY PAINFUL for her.

Quite a painful chapter to read (in some parts, it hit a bit too close to home), but it was a good one: Mike finally gets to say what he wanted to say, unhindered by others (though, it could have been said differently); Lucy is finally starting to move on from him, though it isn’t easy for her; and we get news that Sandy is coming and she’s getting her much needed break from her life as a model.

This chapter also showed, pretty explicitly, how one character’s actions can have major consequences o.O.

Man…the next few chapters are going to be pretty…interesting…

Ok, its finally over and what a chapter. I see practically all my predictions were way off the mark (although I had some theory that Lucy would do nothing with the phone; of course she could have we just don’t know, but I’m sticking to nothing).

Overall, this was a brilliant chapter. Plenty of drama, suspense, emotion and character development (can’t deny that); however I have one major complaint. This chapter was brilliant if it were for a graphic novel. For a 3 page weekly webcomic however, it just moved far too slowly for me. Constantly on tenderhooks, days waiting to take just a single step forward. Of course this resulted in a superb chapter in the end and is a delight to read if done so from beginning to end. All in all, I’ve learnt to perhaps go back to visiting the site every 1-4 weeks and take in a load of pages at a time. But in the end, this was 1st class work.

What of the future for our beloved characters? I have all sorts of ideas but most likely will be well off the mark. Time to head on over to the forums.

I swear Taeshi, now that you’ve gotten a lot of the comic readers to dislike Mike, you’re going to pull an amazing turn around that’s so spectacular that we can’t help but love him again… I’m watching you.

Despite how Mike could have handled this whole thing better, what was done feels necessary (IMO). I’m glad Lucy didn’t do anything brash to get back at him. Hopefully she’ll grow some more as a person and get over Mike. There’s something she needs to learn and a certain someone can teach her it

And yet…life goes on.

I really hope Lucy can forget Mike and move on. And then realize that her friends would never abandon her for a ******* like Mike. …I hope Mike gets karma’d…

Prediction: Lucy will develop the same attitude as Augustus (Final Fantasy Cat) and end up hanging out with him. This will work according to Mystery Cat’s plan from earlier. Lucy will be in danger, Mike will try to help, and chaos will insue. Eventually, Lucy will save Mike’s life, and this experience will enforce his supressed feelings for her, simmilar to what happens in Ch. 12, Confrontation. Sandy will come into this somewhere being a jerk, and Mike will inevitably dump her for Lucy. Also, I’m willing to bet that Sandy has been manipulated by Mystery Cat, to set this whole thing up in the first place.

Reference: Mystery Cat is the unknown speaker in the beginning of Chapter 41, who I believe is the same one who attacked the group in Confrontation.

Now as of the comic… Mike, I hope you’re happy with what you’ve done; Because as of now I’m sure Lucy will try to grow out of her behavior and not need you anymore. Prepare to be ignored!

I fear alejandro (the bad guy of “confrontation”) will exploit sandy’s arrival to get his revenge against mike…

I reckon that when Mike moves tables, some people will stay and some will go. Lucy will realize who her true friends are and it’ll help her correct her flaws. I say this as a person who used to have the same personality as Lucy, except I was worried that people were only nice to me because they were going to play some horrible joke on me later instead of the good looks part . Something similar to this situation happened to me and it broke me down completely. Although I fell into a deeper depression state, it showed who were really my friends in the end so I pulled through, but just barely.

Ok…Maybe it’s just me…but I find the amount of hate for Mike a bit…

Before I begin this rant, I want to take my hat off to the author. Taeshi, you have done such an amazing job to pull people into this comic, making me feel such strong emotions for cats that don’t even exist! Keep up the awesome work! Okay, enough of that, time to get serious.



I’m sorry, but I don’t get why so many people think Lucy is so horrible.
She’s a tough girl with a temper who cares deeply for her friends and obviously has some personal issues, and, yes, she can act violently, but that was the type of person she developed into. There is nothing stopping her from, as she grows older, learning to control her temper and, with the help of her friends, put aside her violent and childish actions.
So many people are acting like Mike is, or was, some sort of victim. Yet he never told Lucy that he hated when she hit him or how she sometimes treated him. I mean, seriously guys, she got use to the way they interacted because it became the norm. If Mike had issues, he should have just explained them to Lucy. I’m sure that, because she cares so much about her friends, she would understand and at least TRY not to hit Mike as much or be so mean. For example, when my brother and I fought when we were younger, I would sometimes hit him. He didn’t show that it had hurt, so out of anger I would hit him harder in an attempt to cause him harm. Only later would I find out my first hits actually hurt, and we would apologize.
How would Lucy know that Mike felt this way if he never communicated with her?
I use to like Mike, but he has become far worse than anything Lucy could have been. He took a long time friend and broke her, hypothetically rubbing her face in the dirt and spitting on her. He BROKE her, and I think people who do that to their friends are lower than scum. There were a million ways Mike could have handled things, which would lead to me respecting him for his actions and at least understanding things from his point of view. But no, he decided to instead verbally abuse Lucy, crushing someone who was beginning to understand their mistakes of the past and were trying to atone for them and fix themselves up.
And one of the things that hurt most is that both Lucy and Mike have gone through most of their lives together, facing so much, just to have Mike slap Lucy in the face with his words, b*tch at her, and pretty much f*ck her up emotionally. A lifetime of friendship over some stupid chick from when Mike was a child who he still has a crush on and hooked up with after YEARS of no contact and has yet to even SEE (but you know, passion really picks up over a god-d*amn phone).
Honestly, I like Sandy. She seems like a sweet and kind girl who genuinely cares about her long-distance boyfriend. I would have been happy for her and Mike, supporting them as I root for Lucy to move on and find someone wonderful for herself.
But No. I’m sorry, what Mike did was the last straw. You don’t literally make someone sick to their stomach with what you say to them. I can no longer sympathies with Mike, he went way way too far and over the deep end on this one. I don’t think I will ever forgive or like his character again.

See, it’s THAT kind of hate for Mike that I find disconcerting.

In the one major time time Mike actually expresses what he’s been feeling for Lucy for a good chunk of time in this comic, people turn on him.

To elaborate on that further, the ONE time Mike actually has a one-on-one conversation with Lucy to express what’s been bottled up and could not be let out due to his friends constantly shutting him down, people turn on him.

And some peeps are acting like what he’s doing is almost completely out of the blue…when in reality,

I’ve mentioned this before, but this chapter is the chapter of Mike’s ticking time-bomb finally exploding in one of the most vicious ways possible. How someone couldn’t see this coming is a mystery.

@Amelia: Before I comment on this, lemme mention that I’m staying neutral in all of this, though I can understand both characters in this chapter.

However, I’ll pull from experience this one time because I HAVE been in this situation before…on Mike’s end.

Specifically, I have been in a situation in which something was annoying the ever-loving hell out of me with my friends, in that they would constantly dump on me due to where I’m from. Every time I called them out on it, they would wave it off (“Hah, very funny” or “C’mon, we’re just messin around”, those kind of responses).

It wasn’t until I got a chance to talk with a few of them, that I was FINALLY able to express my anger; there was no-one else to wave it off while I was talking with them. THAT was when it sunk in. Still friends now? Yes, but that was a tense moment there.

The point of that is to illustrate Mike’s situation even further: Mike is in a LDR (long-distance relationship) with Sandy; a LDR that his friends do not acknowledge. His friends are constantly trying to ship him and Lucy together, despite him KNOWING it’s not going to work (see pillow talk and Lucy’s Confession). Any kind of protest from Mike to these shippings is constantly shut down.

How does he act? A little annoyed.

And that annoyance is ALL that he could show.

Which brings me back to my question of the amount of hate that Mike’s getting; it’s especially perplexing for those that liked him in the past.

Thank you, Bamboo AND Chocothunda; you’re both handling this in a very realistic way. Personally, I appreciate and still sympathize with both characters, as I think Taeshi’s doing her darnedest to make them three-dimensional. And a three-dimensional character does things that are morally ambiguous.

It must have been good to release years of stress and in a sense straighten out loose ends but could he have been a little nicer

Bamboo made me realize… That what Lucy did was nothing compared to what Mike just did. Yeah, she abused him. But Mike was never in any real (real meaning fatal) danger. He could have asked her to stop. But even without that fact… Physical pain is nothing compared to emotional. Physical wounds heal. Mike never got a broken bone. What he did to Lucy was SOUL CRUSHING. Enough to not only crush someone, but to reach out of the realm of the mind and hurt physically. This hurt her because it was a betrayal. Someone she thought was her only and best friend. :L

Way more hurtful than a friend who occasionally makes you bleed. Anyway, if he really didn’t hated her that much, he should have fought back. I’ma get a lot of sexism flak for this but, “men speak best with their fists.”

And wouldn’t this suck if it were THEE END. Like… the comic were over or some **** like that? Man. It would suck so bad.

Although very shall I say interesting chapter its filled with drama romance happiness sadness and twist that in all makes you crave to see what happens next because of its hooks I would give it a 9.7 of 10

Mike, she never really asked you to do anything for her. You did it to make up for the time you ignored her for sandy. You can’t say “she needs me” when she never really specifically asked you to be there. Half the time you came to her aid it was on your own decision she never vocally asked for help from you. I love seeing all the Mike hating. It’s like no one can see things from his perspective. He has ALWAYS been there for Lucy and finally got fed up with it. He has found something that makes him happy and realized he doesn’t need the drama and hurt that Lucy always brought. His one moment of being a douche to Lucy and he is a bad person, yet Lucy has done this to him countless times. I say bravo, way to get it off your chest, now move on with your life. I want to see Lucy as the free girl for once. I want to see he NOT be clinging to someone and realize she doesn’t have to be that way to be happy. They are better apart then together… for now.

Oh the indifference, man, just look at the last panel. His face Speaks two words: Don’t care.

A few pages ago (after we saw Lucy looking at Mike’s phone), someone in the comments thought Lucy had taken the phone and messed with it or something, and was bitching about how Lucy was a bitch and was digging her own grave and deserved what she got.

Anyway, this was a powerful page and overall chapter, and I loved it.

Totally understand what you’re saying, but as girl, Mike is being a bigger douche than what Lucy deserves, on the account that he’s acting like this AFTER she gives him plenty of space and he not only rubs her lack of social skills in her face, he also implies that she is a monster because of them. In my opinion, he doesn’t have the right to say that directly after she makes an attempt at being supportive of his relationship with Sandy. He could have handled it a lot better, or said all that crap when she was actually doing something wrong

Thought of this comic when I read that. The first, thought of Lucy, the second, thought of Mike.

On the about page, it says that Mike and Lucy end up together. I find this extremely unlikely….

Since nobody’s going to understand the above (and I’m not sure I will when I’ve had some SLEEP), the first quote is referring to how accidental forgiveness can be sometimes: my quoting this for Lucy is supposed to show that I still hope that one day Mike will be in a state to forgive on accident.

The second quote is more a warning to Mike: I was saying by quoting it that an opinion that never changes won’t help him find true love, that he needs to admit to himself that Lucy isn’t still the exact same person she was before he started distancing himself from her. She’s similar, yes, but she’s not unaware of it anymore.

In short…. this is me shedding a 5am still-havent-gone-to-bed-since-thursday man-tear, admitting I still hope for them, at the end of about fourty or fifty more chapter’s worth of drama to come.

I greatly enjoyed this chapter, that includes all of the angst, drama and painful moments it had, also the happy ones! I can’t really side with either character, because I like to what until the end of something and then decide how I personally feel about the characters actions and statements, so I guess I’m cheering for both on the fact that this is probably the best, and most likely, ending to the chapter that could have been had.

Poor Lucy. I know how it is. She’ll be alright… but it’ll be tough for the first little while. If Mike had any mercy he’d just keep out of her life from now on, but I know that won’t happen. Something is going to go down with Sandy and he’s going to run to her, and Lucy is going to be the good person and help him out, even though she shouldn’t. He doesn’t deserve her, or anyone else at this point. I don’t care what his reasoning is, he’s not helping a damn person by acting this way - not Lucy, not Sandy, not himself. If he’s trying to prevent him and Sandy’s relationship from hurting Lucy there are better ways to go about it.

Why the hate on Mike and Sandy? Mike did want he felt he needed to do (and a lot of us have likely wanted to yell at someone like that at some point). Lucy’s received the repercussions to her actions and while not comfortable with them and a bit too late, appears willing to change. We can dream, but that will never happen. Much to everyone;’s dispair, Mike loves Sandy. He won’t dump her. In the best case, Sandy will come and realize he’s not the kinda guy for her and dump him, sending him into depression for about two to three arks.

I remember way back in the day I use to like Lucy as a character like when the comic didn’t have panels and were just boxes next to each other for the whole entire page. But now, I don’t really like her nor do I feel sorry for her at all. Because reading this chapter and other previous chapters i’ve been unable to feel bad for Lucy whatsoever. I dunno. It’s unfair to Paulo that she uses him as rebound and the “if this guy ain’t gonna take me i’ll go with you guy” like the second choice. And it’s unfair to all the girls that Paulo associates with to be all like “Well if I can’t have this girl then i’ll go with you” and then immediately dump them if Lucy went to him…as a second choice. This reason is why I don’t like Paulo either. Which utimately led me to go I like PauloxLucy because their both obsessive cats and not like it because, it just feels wrong. And another note when the heck did Paulo develop this whole obsession with Lucy anyway? Okay he flirted with her back in the day, he flirted with everyone. I remember that first there was this whole PauloxDaisy thing and then Tess came so it as like PauloxDasiy vs. PauloxTess then Daisy started to date Abbey so then there was only PauloxTess but Tess was all like “I’m too old and i’m graduating” So then he slept around got into some drama and hurted Tess’ feelings. Then PauloxJasmine. Then somewhere between everything Paulo has had this strange obsession with Lucy. Whut.

What that guy fails to mention is that it still hurts.
Hope it gets better for Lucy and him, for no one wants to be alone.

I am not an idiot. I have an opinion surrounding the characters that is just as valid as anyone else’s.

Mike had a right to be mad and to want to cut ties with Lucy, but he was too harsh. Lucy had complex emotions towards Mike for awhile, and tried to express her feelings but was unfortunately too late to expect Mike to reciprocate that love.

I think that Mike and Lucy could have remained great friends if Mike explained and broadened Sandy’s sheltered view of “what friends should be,” or just warned Lucy that Sandy was sensitive about that type of relationship. Ideally, Mike could mediate any problems between Lucy and Sandy and keep things intact. Initially, Mike was emotionally fine with Lucy and could brush off her mild physical abuse with a laugh, but Sandy’s misunderstanding love and protectiveness drove him to hate Lucy, and eventually release all his pent up frustration on her.

For years Lucy did not seriously consider Mike’s feelings when she acted. But the truth of the matter is that for years Lucy couldn’t come to terms with her own feelings, let alone consider Mike’s. A little maturity and understanding from either Sandy (who is living in the adult world already) or Mike (who until recently has seemed like a very patient and caring individual) could have quelled things without Sandy panicking and without sending Lucy into a spiral of depression and self-loathing.

The reason I admire Lucy in this situation is that she did everything she could to make Mike happy and ease tension between them. Not to mention she has stopped all physical and verbal abuse towards Mike (Isn’t that the whole reason Sandy hated her in the first place?). And, after Mike basically convinced her she was better off dead, she had a chance to do something nasty like pretending to be Mike and texting awful things to Sandy to ruin their relationship. Instead Lucy walked away, keeping all her sadness quietly to herself.

For this same reason I am disappointed in Mike. He could have fixed Sandy’s misunderstandings and stayed friends with Lucy. But even if he wanted to cut ties with Lucy for his own sake, he should not have depreciated her self-worth so much. Making a person feel despised, alone and worthless is the kind of thing one would do to make that person want to kill him/herself. It’s not enough just to say Mike was careless with his choice of words, because if anyone actually said those words with that intention in mind, it would be malicious and evil.

If he wanted to help Lucy move on with some sense of self esteem, Mike should have said something along the lines of “I appreciate what you’re trying to do, and I understand that you love me, but to be honest my relationship with you is putting a strain on my relationship with Sandy. The truth is I really love Sandy, and I think it would only cause problems in the future to try and maintain a friendship with you when you feel so strongly towards me. I really don’t think you should pursue a guy who has fallen in love with someone else. You don’t need to cling to me as if I’m the only one that cares. You’re a wonderful person Lucy and it shows because you have so many friends and family that love you. I’m sorry but I think after this project it would be best for you and me to part ways… etc etc.” Something like that would make me retain some respect for Mike.

If, SushiJaguar, you disagree with me, calling me an “idiot” is not the way to go. I think you’re better than that and you shouldn’t lower yourself to that level when you can positively encourage people to share their thoughts.

In all honesty I am proud of Lucy, but disappointed in Mike. Yes as some say, he does deserve happiness, but does that give him the right to crush someone else’s self worth…no it does not. Some will say Lucy deserved it because of how she treated Mike, but when has she ever destroyed his self worth or talked to him like no one in the world cared? Never…and before you say she never treated him like a friend…you probably shouldn’t because that would be a lie. Lucy got beat up by a bunch of older dudes, because Mike was stupid, got drunk, and could barely protect himself.

I think in the end Lucy matured a bit, because we all know if we were in that situation we probably would of handled it in a highly childish way.

Also all those who want Paulo to come save Lucy, you shouldn’t want that. If Paulo came to Lucy’s rescue she’d probably begin relying on him completely once again. No one wants that! Paulo has a girlfriend who he cares about now, and besides he has already had a chance to have Lucy among other girls.

Though I think the one most appropriate to help her get through this would be Augustus. He’s been in a situation like this before and he’s highly capable of giving someone advice on it. He said he doesn’t like the current Lucy, but I bet if Lucy became stronger from what she is now. There might be a Augustus x Lucy relationship coming on.

It seems inevitable, Mike will get his *** kicked, and that SHOULD happen for his own good! I hope it happens soon… Stupid damn pendejo!

i hope you reread those quotes after some sleep, when mark twain said that he was referring to loyalty to the status of slavery in that time. during those times slavery was viewed as a necessity to the way of life. when mark twain said this he meant that easy answers breed lazy minds. Society likes having its truth carved in stone, but when no one ever questions that, it is nothing more than an opinion. Twain questioned such loyalty, especially in regard to racial issues in American culture.

thus it fails as a warning to mike because that statement is better used to refer to the years he’s been under the stigma of the groups shipping of mike and lucy. he is shattering the opinion that him and lucy would make a good couple and living his life contrary to what everyone thinks would make him happy. he’s making his own happiness.

About this page: Poor thing. Even though she is suffering, she made the wise choice to stay away from him, but will it stick? What will she do? And Mike, well, he finally released his negative emotions and will get to see his sweetheart in person since god knows how long. Perhaps we can finally see more of her character.

About the chapter as a whole: Painful, but so good. This chapter has become one of my favorites. Reading it caused a lot of reactions from me in just a couple of pages; I simply loved it.

Congratulations Taeshi and SuitCase for your 9th anniversary. And let there be many happy years for you both.

Yeah, Lucy’s situation really, REALLY sucks.. but she does it to herself. You can’t really blame Mike. In that situation, with someone you really love on one hand, and someone clingy, annoying and abusive on the other.. I totally understand where he gets his hatred from. It just sucks that he had to force her to realize it that way. There’s no easy way to tell someone what you really feel and have felt for that long. Also, this comic is amazing, wonderful work!

I think you need to reconsider the situation.

Lucy wasn’t trying to be a second girlfriend in this. That wasn’t a case of trying to steal Mike from Sandy. This isn’t a problem of ‘being faithful’ or not.

Like Fei missed as well. Lucy did bring it on herself due to some antisocial tendencies, but they are far and away not the only nor really what I can perceive as the major contributing factor to the problem.

DON’T put to much stock into his facial expression, It is quite ambiguous, It could mean he is either a little sad, or mildly surprised.

Has anyone noticed when mike loved lucy, his scarf was blue because of lucy’s eyes. when i was talking to sandy, he had no scarf because he doesnt know who to love. and now he has the yellow and orange because he likes sandy.

If you notice Mike saddens when Lucy is not looking. I wonder why. >:D

I feel sorry for Lucy…

I have to say, even though I saw this coming from a mile away I HATE how much of an *** Mike is being. I really hope one of three things happen:

1) When Sandy visits, Mike starts to realize that it’s the IDEA of Sandy that he loves, and not the girl herself. As such, he descends into a spiral of depression (much like what I foresee Lucy doing). After a while, something happens between Lucy and Mike, and they both realize that they truly are meant for one another.

2) Mike continues to be a complete ***, and when he announces that he’s leaving the table no one actually goes with him. As a result, he starts to rethink all the time he’s spent with Lucy, all their good memories, and then starts to think about how little time he’s spent with Sandy, and how quickly she tried to turn him against Lucy. As a result, he descends into a spiral of depression (much like what I foresee Lucy doing). After a while, something happens between Lucy and Mike, and they both realize that they truly are meant for one another.

3) Everything from scenario 2, but when Mike tries to patch things up with Lucy, she rejects him and tells him that she’s moved on and gotten over him.

It’s kinda sad that Mike finally gets rid of Lucy after she starts treating treating him more like a…

Chance for more “everyone deserves a second chance” dialogue?

Geez I don’t get why people say she deserved that, because she did’nt, Mike had no right to say anything like that. At first I tought he was in denial because of the conflicting feelings he has for Lucy and Sandy, but NOOO, he is just being a huge dick for no absolute reason, He was never like that, when he says stuff like this or when he spoke with Zachary I don’t see Mike at all, the real Mike is not like that, he cares, and when you fail your character you fail was a writer. I dunno maybe you have something stored for the future or you just pulled a drama scene for people to cry, it frankly ****** me off(but you wouldn’t care haha) I tought bittersweet candy bowl was the story of how Mike and Lucy got together, but I don’t see that happening… Man I was beggining to really like this webcomic, it was pretty good, hell maybe im over-reacting, I tend to attach myself to the characters too much. I will continue reading, but my toughts on it will never be the same.

You know, I was looking a little harder than I should be at the page, and I don’t think Augustus is anywhere remotely near her. I think it just conveys that he sees Daisy happy despite his sadness. And that the concept really makes a connection with Lucy right there.

The Lucy from the chapters when she was still in middle school was pretty understanding of Mike and his relationship with Sandy… also, Mike wasn’t a douche and was totally okay with being by her side; so, okay - people change, but this isn’t the end of the world if these two can’t get together. They’re gonna hate eachother today, but they’ll probably settle it a couple years later when they’re either both married, solo, or whatever.

I think Mike’s just letting his love for Sandy blind his judgement, and Lucy’s being melodramatic just because some stupid boy hates her. It’s not the worst thing in the world to have the guy of your dreams reject you — especially in the worst possible way possible. Could be worse, ya know. He could be dead, he could be as abusive as Abbey’s pappy, or he could’ve slaughtered Lucy’s friends and forced her to eat them — yeah, went too far there, my bad.

Teens do stupid things. It’s natural, and this comic expresses it really well. Plus, there’s no real bad guy in this; just a big misunderstanding. These two need to walk a mile in eachother’s shoes before they can judge one another, and like the rest of you fans - shouldn’t really try to take things too seriously. It’s a drama - so obviously, things are going to get ugly.

Least it isn’t ‘Degrassi’ or that ‘Heavy Rain’ game. Can’t bare to watch or play those things. This comic at least knows how to drag me in, I’ll give it credit for that.

Teenage hormones, angst, and insensitivity aside, there’s a difference from rejecting someone, and systematically crushing any conceptions of friendship and self-esteem they have. Mike might be right, but emotionally eviscerating an already emotionally fragile girl is just too much; it’ll take some major character/plot development for me to like Mike much at all again.
Personal opinion, make of it what you will.

when you think about it Sandy really doesn’t care about Mike’s friends and she never says his name right.

My point is that I think Sandy is just controlling Mike so she can feel in control of someone’s life when her parents control hers. And I bet I know what will happen soon.

When Sandy shows up everything will be awkward and the crew will leave mike instead of Lucy. Then later on Roger will show up and get Sandy to dump Mike for him and some how Lucy will find out. Destroyed and feeling that he just lost everything dear to him; Mike will go to the river and jump in, with Lucy diving in after her and dragging his sorry rear to the river bank. They have a heated fight with Lucy slapping Mike and telling him why she was following him around all these years. That he was the first person to understand her and that she just wanted nothing bad to happen to the best thing in her life, that smile on Mike’s face. Making him realize while Sandy was only with him to control him as a thing, Lucy just wants him to be happy and then they officially come together. Awww

But there is one thing I can’t figure out. Roger or who ever trying wreak their lives.

This chapter makes me want to cry. That is a feeling i haven’t felt in a while. For me I can’t find a way for the real world to have as much an impact as the fictional world. But it seems the pain others feel I can feel whether it be a real person or a character of fiction I can feel it. The pain I feel reading this makes me want to stop but must go on even if all I will feel is more pain.

When I finished reading this chapter all I felt was a need to get in the comic and kick mikes *** within an inch of his life but then I thought that would probably only make Lucy feel worse and I am not one for making others even more miserable.

the bit of anger i felt towards mike reading these recent chapters is a surprise to me, after all i try to understand the reasons of why they are being a, if you pardon the language, *******. oh and i find most of the people here to be very immature. surprise to me because 90% the people on here may be older than me, granted it’s probably because I’m a very serious person at times.

I don’t like how this comic leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. while I can understand mike’s anger I cannot understand why he decided to relieve his anger in that way. he just did something worse than anything Lucy ever did. Lucy realized her mistakes and is trying to build herself up to be a better person but what mike did has probably destroyed all her progress to that goal. the reason Lucy was like that earlier was because she grew up with no friends so she couldn’t build up the confidence or social skills to react appropriately to others. what she needed was someone to trust and depend on. then she had mike someone to trust someone to depend on and something unexpected someone to love so she became more open to others but mike left her for sandy so she went back to her original state and when mike came back to her she clinged to him because she didn’t want to lose mike again and because she did that she ended up having friends like daisy, Paulo, sue, etc. she gained confidence in herself but when mike reconnected with sandy she realized she she may lose him again but didn’t want to think about it. on the summer vacation where they met Zachary she finally acknowledged she may lose him and should try to prepare for that. but when mike started to distance himself from Lucy she slowly started to lose her confidence. i also remember a question abbey had for mike when he ended up ignoring daisy ” how can you justify ignoring someone just because you don’t love them?” but now everything mike has given Lucy he is going to take away, everything she ever wanted just because he hates her. unless that person is a complete monster no one deserves that no matter how much you hate them. there are two things i noticed in mike’s words one is that how would he know if Lucy’s friends are only there because he is her friend and that mike hates Lucy because she relies on him but sandy relies on him just as much but mike is around Lucy when he “babysits” her as he says. i wish i or at the very least someone could tell mike this so he will at the very least apologize and reconcile with Lucy but not hurt him doing so after all i only wish Lucy to be happy. any way that is my long winded interpretation, opinion, and desired outcome of the situation you don’t have to think anything of it.

I completely agree that Mike went totally overboard and that Lucy does not deserve all the hurt she’s feeling from this. It seems to be, though, that for all that time Lucy was being mean to Mike, everyone’s assuming Mike was relatively well adjusted and that Lucy’s backstory excuses her for her actions; but because he apparently is just fine, he isn’t allowed to hurt anyone else and needs to give people like Lucy ‘special treatment’ which doesn’t seem to be a healthy option for him or her at all in the long run.

It’s quite likely that Mike was trying to be a normal happy and friendly teenager and avoid conflicts for the longest time, in the same way that Lucy right now is trying to improve herself as a person - Lucy and Paulo et al, however, likely made that rather difficult at times with their teasing and hitting and general lack of regard for his feelings (so there’s a bit of a parallel here). He probably never wanted to be such an angry and irritable person, and would much rather be how be is around Sandy with everyone; they’ve just scared him off being nice, I think, the same way he’s scaring Lucy away right now.

I wish he could be nice to Lucy again and that they’d just accept that friends do hurt each other at times - there just shouldn’t be some sort of double standard where it’s alright for one person to do something and not for another …

I’ve only recently discovered this wonderful comic, but i really love it. I have grown so attached to its characters in this short time that i’m now really feeling sorry for Lucy.
Even though i am somehow convinced that Mike must have done all this to forcibly sever his bond with Lucy - the way Lucy mistreated him has always been their awkward way of flirting, so they really can’t stay friends without somehow being cheating on Sandy - he’s gone too far.

The way I see it mike is really trying hard to just be happy with the girl he loves and sandy has never dealt with anyone like Lucy by the way she reacted to how Lucy treated Mike. Sandy overreacted and mike didn’t know how to react. And Lucy doesn’t know what to do because Mike was her only friend. All in all everyone is at fault, but no one really knows what to do.

Unlike Augustus, I don’t think that will keep Lucy going.

Lucy isn’t even that bad she doesn’t stalk him or anything anymore I mean I agree she deserves whatever pain is thrown at her for all she’s done to Mike but he freaking crushed her

Whether Mike likes it or not, he will always have feelings he can’t control for Lucy. Most people do, whether they like it or not… have feelings for someone that they can’t control.

But I do think that Sandy is inadvertently causing Mike’s unhappyness.
you aren’t friends with someone that long without either of you going through a major change to break you two up, and as far as I’m concerned, nothing really has changed between them. I would say that except for Sandy, but she has been around more often than not.

Honestly, they all completely ****ed up.
Sandy tells Mike that because Lucy treats him like a damn man, he hates her (in a nutshell).
Mike tries to treat her like the girls who used to slip love letters into his locker and in doing so, seriously ****s up.
Lucy abused Mike for years, not as big as a **** up, because she never seriously injured him, but still certainly not good.

On the whole, I think they are all just insanely confused. Sandy never really met Lucy, and only hears of all the bad things she seems to do(does do sometimes). the reason she only hears all the bad things is because Mike considered Lucy to be his shadow, and never really notices her unless the two are alone together. And Lucy? Lucy always acted as if Mike was the only one who cared, and he doesn’t want the responsibility anymore.

They are all at fault.

On a completely unrelated note, it now seems like only the people who write 2-3 word comments get stars next to their names for some reason.

I think Mike overreacted, but in a way i can see why he said all that, Lucy did put him through a lot of ****. I dont really think she was selfish though.

well I may absolutely dislike Mike, but I’ll say that the pain may make her stronger later
