Up to Bat — Page 1

Taeshi’s Commentary On This Page

Goodness, I start attempting at putting EFFORT into my comics, yet right after “Prom Preparation,” I crap out something like this. Well, I hope it’s amusing enough!

This WHOLE comic is meant to be a revival of an old series one-page comic about baseball. Maybe that’s why despite the quality, I still really like this comic. Back then, I used to make like fifty panels a page.. and I’m not completely exaggerating, I used to make REALLY SMALL panels to try and fill as much as possible.. for that reason, some of my old series comics are incomprehensible.. since the writing is also really sloppy and small. Alas.. so to try and revive an old series comic, it would have to exceed more than.. three pages or something. And between those, I gotta work on the timing to be able to go to the next page.. so yeah.

The last part of this page (Mike walking into the girl’s locker room) is actually taken from another comic, though. His statement seems a bit uncharacteristic, but that’s EXACTLY what he says in the old comic. I guess I was just trying to keep the same joke.. even if it did seem weird for someone like Mike to say that. The old Mike had his perverted moments.. so it made sense then.

Haha epic play…but i have a question, why at panel 5, on the right hand of lucy it’s the letter “M” ?? Not a critic, it’s just i’m making the translation in spanish of the comic, so i was wondering…

Frustrated Writer, I don’t think thats an “M”, I think its just an attempt at at illustration i.e. lines to represent speed, or a star to represent an impact etc. If you look at the authors capital M’s everywhere else they ALWAYS have the right vertical line as far or further down than the left, and this one does not.

Also, look at the next page in panel 6, another that looks like an M off his arm but is to illustrate movement.

That happened to my friend before, only he walked into the girl’s bathroom. No one left him alone with that one for 3 weeks.
