For once we can say we could see that coming! But for a long time we have considered Michael’s scarf like a flag of his feelings, the blue one representing his friendship/love for Lucy. Now the blue scarf is back, but Michael’s feelings for Lucy are the opposite of what it should have represented.
This is either an ironic twist of fate or the hint of a new spiral of events that will change everything again!

I think it’s really cute for Sandy to do that. Now I wonder how Mike will feel in it since the last one there was meaning towards it. I know it wasn’t officially mention why he chose the old scarf in that certain color, but it kinda hinted in the chapter where Lucy was dreaming and how Mike reacted when he saw the old scarf in his locker after she confess her love for him.

This page is the first that made me really feel like squeeing.

From a storyline point of view, I think this is a really great way to hint at a hope for a better future. Mike’s not bad at heart, and the scarf could mean that he’s about to go back to his old ways.

If played like the real world, though, I’m afraid that the new scarf might not actually change anything. So far, though, Taeshi hasn’t really been known to subvert stuff like that, so I’m eager to see what will happen.

You know, Sandy and Lucy look practically the same. If Sandy didn’t have hair and tied a pink bow around her neck, or if Lucy had hair and wore a blue bow in her hair, they’d probably be identical. Which is why I find this so part so..perfect, I guess. That scarf, while matching Sandy’s bow in her hair, also matches the color of Lucy’s eyes. It’s almost like that scarf is a little piece of both of them.

Hmmmm…. I do think the present is adorable buuuuut I’m a sucker for analysis of plot soooo.

When he first purchased his, he was really adamant about the color. Of course Sandy noticed that her bow matches, and this may seem reason enough for why Mike would be so determined to get a certain color. But this was during the time where Sandy was all but a passing fantasy, before they’d started calling each other and reiterating their feelings, and back when Lucy was the present, dominant factor in his life. And while the scarf may be a perfect match for Sandy’s bow, the color extends to Lucy’s eyes as well and in all likely hood he had originally bought the scarf to represent her instead.

When he first stopped wearing it, it was right around when we noticed the decline in his attention to Lucy, and the turn his feelings began to take toward the negative. It was also right around when he and Sandy were restating contact between each other. I feel like the blue scarf is symbolic of his bond with Lucy and I really hope that this signals their friendship being on the mend.

If choosing a girl and and a matching scarf is the way to keep his mood under control then I’d say he is the one that has been needing a security blanket.

Sandy probably doesn’t know that he got the blue scarf to match Lucy’s eyes, and the fact that she got it to match her bow is cute, but Mike probably won’t wear the scarf if he’s not with Sandy, because wearing it will make it awkward for him to be around Lucy, making it seem like (to him) that he’s trying to connect to her, even though Lucy won’t know. Realistically, Mike will go and think about what Sandy said, but not wear the scarf. He may or may not be as harsh to Lucy as he was before, but most likely it’s not symbolism that he and Lucy will get back together. Just because the scarf is back doesn’t mean he’s automatically going back to the way he was.

It has Gryffindor colors, and Griffindors are brave, though also reckless sometimes. Now he can go back to being a Ravenclaw Mike (go Ravenclaw!!!).

I always feel like Mike and Sandy are more best friends than boyfriend and girlfriend. They have these awkward “cute” moments that fade away just as quickly as they start… and it just doesn’t feel like “love” to me.

That ‘matching up’ idea’s sure gonna suck if Mike actually got that scarf to match Lucy’s eyes …But they’re stronger than this I hope - they can give new meaning to the scarf whatever it was originally intended for

He got the blue scarf because Lucy told him he should wear one (“All gay guys wear scarves!”) Even though he isn’t gay, he wore it because he was trying to connect to her. He even chose the color to match Lucy’s eyes, which she didn’t pick up on.

Somewhere along the way, Mike either lost or damaged his scarf (I can’t remember which, it was in an older chapter) and got a new one from Tess (the orange and yellow one). He kept that one and didn’t bother getting a replacement because he was “done with Lucy”.

This meant he acted more like a “jerk” during the time he had the scarf (what everyone is referencing). No need for more flashbacks! I think we’ve had enough of those for a while :p

I found this story four days ago, and I’ve already read every single one. And I love it. Not sure who my favorite is yet, I’m torn between Mike, Abbey, and now Sandy. Though I must add in Sue and david, mainly due to their lack of angst. Anyway, sad there’s no next button

I would not be surprised if the icon for the website changed from Lucy’s bow and Mike’s scarf to Sandy’s bow and Mike’s scarf. Then again, I guess the icon would look kind of bland and confusing with the same colored clothing on it. I am loving how this is turning out, it’s putting me on the edge of my seat

@Effie: that comic you linked to, http://www.bittersweetcandybowl.com/c15/p9.html, is happening again. I mean, he’s not even Lucy’s FRIEND anymore, now that Sandy is his love interest. He may not realize it, but you don’t have to be romantically interested in someone to be her friend. And it’s not like she did anything to you but say “I love you.” How is that bad enough to get punished with neglect? I know he must be embarrassed but he’s been her best friend since before he met Sandy— and before Sandy, he was Lucy’s only friend. Can you really just ignore her because one of you has unrequited love for the other? Only when it’s not you who’s in love, I suppose, you hypocrite.
Mike, I know it’s hard, and you’re awesome. But you’ve been staying out of her life for too long. Maybe you need time to heal, but while you heal, she hurts.

Just seeing him hold the scarf like that makes me want to cry. I’ve been following this comic for so long…the blue scarf doesn’t seem to match him anymore, somehow…as if he had overgrown it. His hands seem to have grown big to grab it like that…or it’s just me. *sniff* Mike’s lucky. He’s got several old childhood friends to be with a old stuffs to be with. For me, when something or someone leaves, they never come back and they become a part of my past. I never hear or see them again…until Facebook came along.

@GUEST The problems between Mike and Lucy are both’s fault. Lucy has a big part of it because from the beggining she kept bothering and being abusive to him even though she knew he didn’t want to be her friend. Mike was a kid, he didn’t think in consequences of putting all his attention on his crush so he left Lucy behind (considering he didn’t care much about their friendship as he looked at her as an abusive pain in the ***) Years later she forgave him and he learned to appreciate her. Also Lucy and Mike were ok with the Sandy thing but their friends kept bothering them with both being together and insulting Mike with being a cheater what helped on making him angry. Lucy grew romantic feelings and she told Mike but their problems didn’t start from there, he started to dislike Lucy because of her being abusive all these years, and comparing her with Sandy he lost his romantic interest in her, and now that she’s heart broken everyone blames it on him like if he were always the bad guy and that’s what ****** him up the most. He didn’t acted the way he should but how else would someone as stubborn as Lucy understand that he’s tired of that and that he wants her out of his life? Lucy became a chore again and he couldn’t notice her effort on changing to think she’s different now.

Sandy seems sweet, but I still don’t like Mike. He and Lucy should’ve talked things out calmly instead of just screaming hate at each other. Granted, Lucy isn’t usually calm, but it should happen.

in the chapter before she admits that she loves him, she has a dream, and he likes her again, and he’s wearing the blue scarf, then she sees him with sandy, and he’s back to his orange scarf. The orange one represents the new dick Mike who nobody likes, and he only cares about himself and Sandy now, it seems. Let’s hope the blue scarf brings back the old Mike.

@SeeU @Pokemaster We can’t actually assure the blue scarf is for Lucy’s eyes or Sandy’s bow. As I posted before, Mike got his scarf time after he met Sandy. About Lucy’s dream, well, it was Lucy’s dream, her mind related the blue scarf with Mike loving her and being sweet with her and the striped one with Mike loving Sandy and being mean with him. In the dream the Mike with blue scarf that loved her almost told her why he chose that specific color for the scarf, but even if he told her it was because of her eyes, it’s still being her dream, her subconscious telling her what she believed or wanted to believe but not necessarily the reality. It’s the same with Sandy, she saw the photos and noticed Mike’s scarf was the same color as her bow so she thought it was because of her bow’s color. We can’t assure anything yet until it is revealed in the comic.

i feel like the scarf kind of symbolizes how he’s caught between lucy and sandy. first it was blue for lucy’s eyes, now its blue for sandys bow.

Yay the blue scarf I remember from the start is back. I was always fond of this couple, To the above comment though, it isn’t normal for them to not be friends. I think Mike SHOULD forgive Lucy but she should also be a little less harsh on him with all the violent acts and what now.
