White fur, bulbous tail and some odd mass around the neck, who could it be? Speaking of which, what is up with that tail? It’s strange to say the least.
Still though, I wonder if she’s depressed and she’s going to jump or if she’s just having some deep existential journey on the top of a building? Either way, her mom must have said something huge for her to leave her house in the first place.
To be honest though, if she does jump and doesn’t die, a trip to the hospital will probably be good for the cast.

Well, I think it’s pretty clear who the “shadow” on the roof is now.
Detecting heavy drama waiting to punch everyone in the face. Lucy’s gonna be all like “Aw my gawd, I’m gonna jump this B”. Then Auggie is gonna be all like “There’s still so much to live for baby. Let’s make our own life and kittens.” And then after she almost jumps, but then starts crying, Auggie will then punch her and yell “April Fools!”, and then he’ll pull off a mask to reveal he’s actually David.
Boom. Three-pointer logic right there, assuming of course THAT is Lucy. Eh, if it’s somebody else, it’s somebody else. As Lucy or someone else, eh, it’ll roll along and reveal itself next update.

God, you people are so overdramatic, its obviously not Lucy, so, so obvious, (stands by laser cannon on off chance i’m wrong).

Yes, I know its her outline, but writters have been using this method for years, decades even, to build suspense, it looks like someone form a distance, but as soon as you see them face to face, its someone completely different, (that, or they reason why they are there is completly different from what you think, i.e. what the writer/artist wants you to think), this is called misdirection.

Now this is not a criticism on Taeshi’s work, I dont’t mind this sort of technique, it IS everywhere. Its just that, and maybe i’m overly cynical, but really it’s about many (many, not all) of the commenters jumping to concludsions about something (yeah, i can jump to concludsions about stuff too, but I dont always have to mention it… it makes me feel less stupid if i’m wrong).

The first few seconds pretty some up my reaction

Well, as we can tell from the last panel, whoever it is seems to be wearing a full body suit, which looks very odd.

Know what even though i love lucy ti bits and really do want her to turn around orbe saved, i haft to say “jump” only to wake mike up for how much he really affects lucy, not becuase she loves him, but also because for leaveing then coming back to her like she was nothing. Mike treated her like ****, hes the cause of her behavor, he got her here. Whats with all the Mike hate floating about?? IT’s pretty much both there faults really, I mean Mike liked Lucy and wanted a relationship but she basically said no and he gave up but look at it this way. Oh! I just realized! We’re gonna get some Paulo, Lucy, Augustus love triangle crap going on! I am so in favor of that. It would be such an awesome chapter! Lucy slowly starts to come around to Augustus, Paulo tries to assert that he’s no good, and she forgets about *pukes and swears at the same time* Mike.

It would also be pretty cool though if Augustus pushed her and she landed on Mike, snapping his spine, Sandy dumps him cause she doesn’t want to love a cripple, Mike re-falls in love with a supposed supportive Lucy, and when he confesses his love to her one night she holds a pillow against his face until the meowing stops.

If that’s Lucy, then Augustus will give her a bad time. Hopefully he’ll rant her to not doing it and make her realize how stupid she’s being.

BOOM! Drama set for next chapter.

If that really is Lucy - which I believe it is due to Augustus’ reaction - people seem to be forgetting the scene earlier in this chapter with Lucy’s family. Her mother had big news that would effect her or make her believe that her mother was “abandoning her”.
I think that if Lucy is up there in an attempt to commit suicide, it was that family issue that pushed her over the edge, figuratively speaking.
The situation with Mike happened one to two weeks before this, and while I don’t object to it being a factor in her wanting to jump, I feel she would’ve done it by now if that’s all it was.

I seem to remember a comment that was made back maybe a bit before or just at the start of “December” about how the entire comic could be a lead up story to Lucy’s suicide. I didn’t pay it much mind back then but now I’m kinda getting worried…

I don’t get shipping Lucy and Augustus - Augustus stopped her because he didn’t want somebody to commit suicide - because he’s secretly a good guy (I think) - I don’t think he likes her at all to be honest.
However, I think if it is her jumping, he’s the right person to talk some sense into her - maybe they’ll build a friendship eventually but I can’t see them working romantically - he’s in love with Daisy and thinks she’s pathetic and bitchy, and she thinks he’s a creep…

@DaveOtOw - of course Mike is in a relationship! People do have long distance relationships you know! It doesn’t mean they don’t love each other just because they can’t see each other.

Did you miss all the times she hit him, and put him down, or all the times she could have told him, or apologised for her actions?

If Augustus does mannage to stop Lucy from jumping, wether it be catching her by the tail as she jumps off the edge or talking her down, I see him draging her off to the party and consulting everybody. If Paulo finds out he will join Augustus and attack Mike.

OR

If Augustus fails to talk Lucy down and she jumps, she must somehow survive. Propebly in a big pile of snow or something. If so she will have a few browken bowns and thenif everybody finds out then they will all turn against mike. As well as it probebly will be put in the news, in witch case Sandy will see it and then the fun begins! Hahaha. That will also have mike eating his words about leaving the table and everybody else leaving Lucy on her own.

If she doesn’t jump but stays on the edge and the press and media get involved then everybody at the party will see on TV, her family as well and Sandy will see! That will land mike in HUGE cuck. Its Lucy its no doubt PERIOD. If it were Mike or Sandy you really think Augustus would even care? And that tail, Lucy is the only one who has a big tail. Ok first he sees its her runs up stairs and sees she is still there he is doubting she will jump. But why wouldn’t she? Her best friend hates her. Her 2nd closest friend would **** two other girls but not even admit his feelings or act like he cares. Only one she feels she can talk to thinks she is pathetic. I am just glad it wasn’t Mike instead of Augustus or regardless what he has to say we know she would jump. I think they only reason she hasn’t jumped yet is because despite having her heart torn out and stomped on. She still has a small hope that someone out there cares. Augustus is going to have to out smart her and trick so he can grab her and stop her from jumping. Maybe I don’t give the guy enough credit, maybe he can talk her out of it.

She doesn’t need Mike, Lily, Paulo, Zack or Augustus. She needs someone to show her that they care and make her believe it. Mike’s apology is going to help. Paulo’s confession? Without knowing it he hurt her feelings and left her for dead. Lily probably already tried talking to her. Zack is partly responsible for this and probably make it worse. Augustus already told her she is pathetic and put salt on the wound.

If she dies… I will be very sad, but not surprised at all. A person can only take so much pain mental or physical before they completely break down.

What I am really hoping is one of 4 things happens ok maybe only 3.

1.Lucy jumps and dies, some days later its on the News… and Mike now lives with regret.

2.Augustus grabs her tail and drags her away from the cliff, she goes kicking and screaming as he carries her to the party. ON the way she stops kicking and just sobs quietly, then when Tess answers the door, and Augustus tell her what happen. AND THE DRAMA HITS THE FAN!

3. Augustus fails to talk her out of it. So he calls the 911 or someone. It ends up on the News(live). For some reason its on at Tess’ house they see and Sue asks “What did you do!”

4.(THIS happens and I will ****en parade around my neighbor naked and film it for you all[including me getting arrested]! ONLY if this happens!) As Augustus tries and fails to talk her out of it. She turns around ready to walk off when, Mike shows up… DRAMA! And tells her not to jump. Lucy starts telling him why she is going to jump, saving what Mike did till the end. Then Mike says “I am sorry Lucy”. Taking advantage of Lucy’s shock Mike runs up and…. grabs her(If you thought I might push I say “screw you and good day sir”) and pulls her away. As Lucy sobs in his chest. He hugs her and tells her he loves and he wants to be with her. With his arms around her they walk down the stairs and to the party. On the way Mike tells of how sorry he is and other things(I am lazy STFU), and also he pulls out his phone and tells Sandy… before he can speak to he Lucy breaks down to the ground crying. Mike bends down puts his arm around her. Lucy still sobbing hears “Sandy? I am breaking up with you. *click*” She stares up with Mike to see him hang up. And says “That’s right Lucy” with a smile on his face. AND I am to lazy to type the rest. But let’s just say it ends MikexLucy and HAPPINESS, like IT SHOULD BE! *fist pump*

NOOOOOOO, Mike is too much of a jerk to get Lucy. Lucy is a prize. She is pretty, kind, smart, and loyal to her friends.

Her only downside is she doesn’t trust people to let them in.

But Mike? He is selfish, cruel, a possible sadist when it comes to his desire to see Lucy miserable and alone (See all comics where he gets mad that she is still admired by boys).

He shouldn’t get Lucy. He is the scum of the earth. You don’t claim “WAH I was being abused” and then spend a good year and a half being cruel to your best friend by:

1) Getting ****** if she tries to move on.

2) Being an absolute *** after she confesses, despite her sensitivity to your feelings when you confessed- only pushing you away because she was twelve.

3) Being a jerk at every available opportunity by openly insulting her in front of her friends and teachers at school.

4) Deciding to snap and say every hateful thing you can think of so close to Christmas. (Parasite, everyone hates you etc)

I would like to point out that just because you are a teenager, doesn’t mean you can stop being a decent human being. “Oh my angst is just too strong/ no one understands doesn’t cut it as an excuse”. That’s why we have heartless people in the first place.

I say that because I went through a lot of bullying in high school, and there was never a point when I would justify hurting someone because I couldn’t handle my own issues. Mike justified his harsh treatment of Lucy to Sandy for “ruining his life.” He then wanted Lucy to die for practically no reason considering Lucy was way better behaved by this point, and had the audacity to wish her dead in front of his girlfriend.

I don’t care who you are. If you wish death on a past friend out of petty disagreements, you are the worst form of human being out there.

To address the comment on Lucy, she doesn’t hurt people. Not really. She smacks them when they sneak up on her, she likes to refer to everyone as idiots, and she also enjoys making empty threats. Everyone knows that she does it to not look like a weak pretty girl, even her friends in the BCB comic. I don’t feel like this even counts as bullying or abuse because the end reaction isn’t like Tess or any of the actual bullies in the comic. The only one with a problem with her harsh attitude tendencies is Mike. And his inability to talk to her about it and over reaction after she stops most of this behavior anyway, is beyond stupid.

Lucy makes a lot of empty threats to everyone. She really isn’t that strong. I think she is only a danger to herself, and if she wasn’t then she would have lashed out by now with actual intent to harm, but she doesn’t. Rather we she her risking her life for her friends on multiple occasions.

Also, I never understand the argument for Mike where “BCB comic characters only like him when he is nice to Lucy”. Mostly because everyone in BAB universe loves Mike- for some reason. Like I mentioned before he has never had any proof of him being nice other than, Taeshi making the characters love him and saying how nice he is. I never saw such proof.

Unfortunately cute guy is not the same as nice guy and I like to use the actual actions of the characters to gauge their personalities instead of what the BCB characters think about them.

As a random side-note, I don’t “love” Lucy haha. In all honesty, my username was a last second decision to actually have a comment-name to use so I’d have an identity.

I enjoy this comic and it’s art and the insightful discussions. But I wouldn’t say I love these characters, or even like them enough to be blinded by anything.

I just have a logical opinion based on my thoughts reading the whole thing. And I mostly just respect Lucy. I know real people like her, and they are the ones who have suffered the most and as a result treat people the best because they don’t ever want anyone to suffer the way they did.

I can’t say that I agree with the assessment that Lucy behavior before the whole Mike issue (kicking/punching them when they come up behind you, insulting them, abusing Mike’s sensitive hearing, blowing her nose on his scarf, making empty threats etc) isn’t that bad.

For example, me and my group of friends (and I’m sure everyone has a similar dynamic with their friends) are complete dick’s to each other every time we’re together, but we’re also friendly with each other just as much and we have our limits to just how much of a dick any of us can be. If any one of our group kept blowing their nose on a piece of our clothing without so much as an “Oh ****, I’m sorry”, then someone is gonna be angry.

Lucy had maybe one or two moments where she wasn’t being a bitch to Mike in the comic (again, before the whole vacation/Mike thing). Even in some of the old extras or mini comics or whatever you wanna call them.

What I’m trying to say is that while these things by themselves aren’t so much of a problem, but when they pile up (and the offender rarely, if ever, apologizes for their behavior), they become much more noticeable and annoy you to the point where you snap and want to get rid of the person doing it. Being depressed or having issues is no excuse to be a dick all the time, even if you think what you’re doing is not all that bad.

Obviously Mike got fed up with it. Did he overreact? Yes. Though if I remember correctly, he only started to be a REAL dick to her after their little group were forcing the two to be together and make up when in reality, neither wanted to be near each other. Of course sparks will fly at that point. Both Mike & Lucy are at fault.

Just as a side note I hope she jumps because we all know she wouldn’t die due to the physics of her being a cat. If Mike survived a fall from that rock bridge into a raging river and have little to no side effects (He was fishing? How deep could that river be for him not to hit the bottom?) I’m certain Lucy could fall and have minimal side effects due to it being pavement, not a raging river. ALSO her jumping would add soo much drama and show her friends how sad she is and shipping would happen and Mike would possibly feel bad for once and *squeees* I’ve never wanted a fictional character to jump off a roof so badly! Note: I love drama. This comic does not have real people. So I could honestly care less about whether a fictional character dies or not, it’s entertainment. *puts up shield and prepares for **** to go down due to this comment*

The only reason cats can survive falls from large heights is that they DELIBERATELY orientate themselves into a position where they have maximum air resistance pushing upwards under their body.
This decreases their terminal velocity to the point where impact will not cause fatal damage.

If they don’t orientate their body, they’re just as capable as we are of making a mess on the ground. To that regard, it’s actually been found that, UP TO A CERTAIN POINT, increasing height decreases chances of the cat’s survival if it were to fall, but beyond that, chances actually INCREASE.
This was attributed to the fact that the height they fall from was high enough to cause severe injury, but too low to give them time to orientate themselves into that ever-important position of high air resistance.

Regarding the position they put themselves in while falling - Compare it to us humans falling from a height. If we put our arms tightly by our sides, legs together, keeping our body straight and upright, we fall much faster.
Now look at a freefalling posture - Arms and legs out, facing downwards, deliberately causing the maximum amount of air resistance to push us upwards and slow our descent.
So were a cat to have desire to injure itself (Hypothetically, putting aside the “How”s and “Why”s), it would be perfectly capable of doing so. All it would have to do is to NOT put its body in the lifesaving position. That is, of course, assuming that it is an entirely conscious decision by the cat and not an innate reflex - The latter is perfectly possible as a result of evolution; a behavioural adaptation to protect it from falls. Cats are, after all, also highly adapted for tree-climbing and the like, so it would be acceptable to assume that such falls would be relatively common.

In any case, however, it’s important to remember that these are anthropomorphic representations of cats; the physics involved in them falling would therefore be comparable to those of a human (Fur could make a difference, albeit not likely a significant one). Regardless of what position we put ourselves in, the human body is just not adapted to avoid injury in the case of large falls. People only ever come out of them alive or uninjured in exceptional circumstances - by having their descent interrupted less abruptly, by trees (Yes, Hollywood does get this right sometimes!) or the like. It has happened!

So there you go. Sorry, folk, but if they go off that roof, with or without the aim to hit the ground hard, they’re going to get pretty badly hurt, even if they are a cat (or fictional representation of one)!

On another note, regarding who the mysterious individual is: I’m not a gambling man, but if I were, I’d put my money on it being Mike.
Firstly, because that silhouette around their neck looks more like a scarf than a bow, to me.
Secondly, because in my mind, even with all that’s happened, Lucy just isn’t the kind of person to think of doing this. That’s much more subjective, of course!
Finally, thirdly: I wouldn’t put it past Taeshi to mess with us! For it to be Lucy seems far too obvious! The suspenseful ambiguity is obviously quite deliberate. For it to be Mike would be such a mind-blowing drama bomb, none of us could help but read on, to see what’s going on! That’s storywriting for you… Part of it involves tricking your readers to keep going!
It’s an odd thing, really. For it to be Lucy is so obvious, it’s almost certainly going to be someone else…

This will sound really really bad, but I kind of wish Lucy would jump. Either she’d die or get seriously injured, and although I have no qualms with her, it would shake everything up and the characters would be out of this stale, unchanging point in the story. I like BCB, but I now feel less emotionally attached to the characters, since nothing new has happened. Even now, this was all expected, I just want some changes to happen, things that shock us, or things that create more character development.

Well it’s sorta instinct for them to re-orientate themselves. Who knows, she may realize she doesn’t want to die on her way down, and re-orientate herself. Yes, I know how asphalt works. I have seen my cat have a seizure in the window and fall down four stories, land on his back, and get up perfectly fine (I didn’t let him do that, I tried to save him but I couldn’t reach him in time). I’m not an idiot, I have basic knowledge of physics. And I really do appreciate you taking your time to respond, that was a really interesting read. You’re right, they are anthro cats so they have human characteristics as well, I was just saying that in previous comics whenever they land they land in a more catlike way than a human way. I wasn’t thinking correctly about the exact physics since they are, well, human-cats, so I thank you for your response.
Also, in my earlier comment I said it would be funny if it was Lucy with Mike’s old blue scarf and she was up there to let it fly away or fall as a symbol for letting go of Mike.

I was just voicing my opinion and I have as much right as the rest of you to comment what I feel like commenting. And you’re right, with all that snow she’d probably land on snow and have less of an impact on the asphalt. Once again I am sorry if I offended anyone but I really would much rather comment what’s on that mind at the moment instead of thinking how every little person here on the website feels.

I have no prediction what so ever. I’d like to be cool and offer an insightful prediction, but I don’t know. You may have a rough way of telling a story Taeshi, but there is something buried under it all that makes it superbly appealing and best of all, completely and utterly unpredictable. In a good way though. If it’s Lucy, I could imagine you making her jump, but then again, maybe this could happen, or something else. The list just goes on.

Guys. What’s with the whole “Why would Augustus otherwise be concerned if it’s not Lucy” and “Why would Augustus otherwise try to save her” etc.
IF YOU SAW SOMEONE ABOUT TO JUMP OFF A ROOF, I THINK YOU’D PANIC AS WELL. WHETHER YOU KNOW THE PERSON OR NOT.
Some people try to talk them out of it, others call for help, some rushes to the rescue like our little Siamese kitten here. To be honest, I would most likely also try to rush up the stairs to stop them, while calling someone on my way up.

Augustus just opened the darn door, I don’t think he’s actually realised yet who it is. You saw how tall the building was, how would be be able to tell who it was. I wouldn’t, for sure. But I would still try to help them, rather than just turning my back on a suicidal stranger and leave the scene before I get my clothes dirty.

Also, I doubt that this is a suicidal scene. Luce (if it’s her) might’ve said she was ready to give everything up, but if she wanted to end her life she would’ve done that long ago. She just had a chat with her family as well. Whatever they said couldn’t possibly have shaken her so much that she rushed off with thoughts like “I’M GONNA JUMP OFF A TALL BUILDING!”
Perhaps she’s looking for the perfect fireworks spot, or if the whole “talk” was about sending Luce off to another school (perhaps even move) then maybe she’s taking a last look at the city.
Or maybe it’s her thinking-place. It’s not all too rare to go up on top of a building just to think things through.

I just realized something. For all we know, that could be MIKE. The scarf makes it look like it COULD be (though I still think it’s gonna be Lucy).
