Looks like Jasmine initiated the kiss to me, not Paulo. Seems like he just felt bad and kissed her out of pity and obligated. And that right there is why the comic is called BITTERSWEET Candy Bowl. I’ve been in that same situation. It sucked because I still had feelings for the guy after he broke up with me. The kiss broke my heart all over again, but I got over it. As for everyone yelling at Paulo as if he started it; read the page again, obviously Jasmine instigates the kiss. They’ll move on and hopefully can remain friends afterward.

Maybe its to make up for the lack of kissing in the relationship? Maybe its a “Well, why not, we never did that anyway. Just for the sake of making this our last memory together” type of deal, and Paulo is going with it because maybe he feels like he owes it to Jaz. Well that was unexpected. Still, it’s not unheard of. I think it’s just a goodbye kiss more than anything, but we’ll see. I think that it’s always nice to have someone to spend the new year with, even if you did just break up with them. At least Jasmine isn’t subjecting Paulo to how heartbroken she is, I mean it’s hard enough to break up with a girl that you have nothing against, but it’s even harder when they try to guilt trip you into staying with them. Especially considering they haven’t exactly had the most affectionate relationship. Luckily I’ve never had it happen to me, but I do know people who have. I commend Jasmine for taking it well, and Paulo for being straight up with her about his feelings and I think they’ll still be good friends after the dust settles.

That’s some awfully harsh judgement you’re laying down on what amounts to a teenage kid with a Phobic-level fear.

He’s trying to figure life out, just like everyone else. I actually think he is one of the more stable, if sometimes misguided (lookin at you, David), personalities here. He cuts straight to the source of the matter, rather than dancing around the subject, and his heart’s in the right place.

It seems to me that the way in which this kiss came about leaves the two of them with zero delusions as to what is going to happen in the future. They’re breaking up, but through this kiss they can move on without thinking that they held back from one another. As someone mentioned, they finally had an intimate moment, now, when nothing was on the line.

Doesn’t seem like something worth damning him to helfire for, especially since it seemed so… mutual.

Seriously, if I read this comic at the start of my day, my mood for the day is set depending on the comic. When it looked like Lucy was going to jump, I had a stressful day, just as if I was looking at somebody who was about to jump in real life. these characters seem so real to me and I feel like I really am connected to these characters.

And the new year arrives…. Tess might want to lay off the wine. I see disappointment on Jessica’s face, bummer for her. David the party animal, hilarious, And it would seem that the new year kiss had a deep meaning. Now, I’m looking forward for the next few pages next week and I wonder what the finale of this chapter will be.

Well… That was a mutual kiss! Let’s be real here, people. Just because he has feelings for “someone else” doesn’t mean that he didn’t have any attraction or feelings for Jasmine. This was a sweet, tender moment shared between people who do actually care about each other, and I see nothing wrong with it.

HEY reminds me of just how my ex and I made out two weeks after we broke up and she told me she was in love with her ex. I feel like Paulo’s expression in the 2nd/3rd to last panels mimic her expression perfectly, despite the fact that she was the one to initiate the kiss.

As much as I’d like to believe this is a goodbye kiss, I really can’t. There is too much pain here. They just broke up, and Jasmine feels awful so she went to who she usually does for comfort, probably out of habit and not maliciousness, with a little ‘maybe this will let me keep him’ on her mind. Paulo was seemingly fine on the outside, but likely had some doubt as to how she’d deal with it. Seeing her upset and longing is so conflicting that he’d rather just kiss her than reject her again, as well as possibly looking for a Lucy substitute since her absence from this party only stresses her seeming unavailability. The two of those reactions, if they are really what’s driving this kiss, will only keep them in a vicious loop if they don’t address it. After all, no one saw them break up, so they can claim it didn’t happen, and then their continuing relationship will just be a pile of hurt, guilt, and need.

Taeshi! I am in love with this page, in that it made my insides squirm with emotion. Thank you for bringing in the BCB new year with such meaningful drama! It’s been a pleasure reading these last few years, and I’m certain it will continue to be so until its end.

I find myself wondering exactly why they decided to make the bond even harder to break by kissing in the middle of their breakup. They probably just kissed to keep their friends from worrying or asking questions.

(Ex: “Is something wrong?”, “Hey you and Jazz have been acting distant tonight, what’s up with that?”)

I personally think it was a good way to keep a drama bomb from suddenly raining on everyone’s parade. Yeah, they’ll tell their friends later, but at a party? Especially after all the drama that has come and gone, involving Paulo and his girl problems? Haha…I don’t think so.

I never once called Paulo an idiot. I said that Jazz was being bad because they broke up, and she had said that she understood and was okay with it, then went back on that and kissed him. Maybe you should get your facts straight.

Okay, I posted my initial comment because it was exactly what I had been thinking when I was reading the page. Yes it was to be funny, vut I am NOT a troll, and did NOT post it to make people mad or to get a stupid rant from people like you.
Secondly, when I told you to get your facts straight, I was referring to you accusing me of calling Paulo an idiot. Perhaps in your mind, you meant someone else, but you had said it as though you were referring to me.
And finally, like I said, I’m pretty sure you aren’t Taeshi, so you can’t tell me or anyone else that it was for sure a breakup kiss, or what Jasmine’s thinking. That isn’t something that the audience can know until the author/artist reveals it. And I know that because I draw comics myself, and I do similar tactics.
Maybe it was just a breakup kiss. Maybe it was just her wanting to kiss someone she likes for New Years. Whatever the case, I still think that it was wrong of her to do, and I’d really rather wait to read the next page (or whatever page comes back to the party, if the next one returns to Lucy and Augustus) to find out Jasmine’s reasoning than to automatically assume it was one thing.

Most of the comments I am seeing are people calling Paulo an idiot. Seriously, it was Jazz who kissed him. He probably did it for her because he felt guilty about breaking up with her and the fact that it’s probably their first kiss.
And in my opinion I wouldn’t kiss anyone on New Years unless I liked them and knew that they liked me. Although if I broke up with my special someone then I would ask for a goodbye kiss.
