this is getting pretty awkward
Now, the real question is: is this part of the play or not? Knowing Taeshi, it could very well be both. I guess we’ll have to see if Sue is screaming in the next page to find out. I mean, Lucy does look genuinely shocked and/or surprised, and not the acting kind, but the stuff you can’t make up. However, Mike doesn’t seem like the kind of person who’d regret what he did so, you never know. Another thing though is that that line doesn’t make much sense. He wouldn’t be able to do anything to help, as he was an infant, and therefore, this line makes no sense. Seeing as Sue doesn’t seem like the kind of person who’d overlook that, it might be Mike saying that as Mike. Conversely, Mike seems like a logical guy. I don’t think he’d do that on stage, during a play that they’d been rehearsing for months, in front of a huge audience. Though, Mike has let his emotions take over, which is the whole reason that this is even a possibility.
Also, Lucy looks like she’s about to cry in the last panel, which wouldn’t fit into the play at all. Either way though, we’re in for a bumpy ride!
In the end though, I’m pretty sure it’s not part of the play.
Nikita April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
Um, part of the play? Or… real life?
Comrade April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
Just in time!!
Damn so close to real life… this play is hurtfull because I so wanted him to say something sensible in real life and instead it turns out he says it… but it’s an act!!
Actually now that I think about it… it could go either way… I’m kinda worried…
Vainilla April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
Nice acting there, Mike.
Ditto April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
Ha! This is the best play ever. Either Mike suddenly turned into a really good actor or I’m dreaming. If it does turn out to be part of the play it would be nice if at the end of this play he talks to Lucy and tells her that he meant every word .
Ohhh boy this is gonna go down hill fast.
Legion April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
OH WHAT THE ****, I THOUGHT THIS WAS MIKE SAYING THIS BUT ITS JUST APART OF THE PLAY ****
OHMYGOD April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.
I hope Mike can realize something more than a drama.
…to be continue
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 12:00 AM EST.

Well, I hoped to be the first…
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 12:01 AM EST.
Sue, you sly girl, you made them do that since its part of the script xD

The next scene involves a shark tank.
Titanium Dragon April 5, 2013, 12:06 AM EST.
This is getting GOOD! It’s sounding like this is the big apology we’ve been all waiting for. I’m now thinking that he’ll apologize properly after the play, then paulo will waltz in, and lucy will have to choose O_O

Very nice “acting” mike >:)
Defutz April 5, 2013, 12:07 AM EST.
Too much confusion and awkwardness! It’s an act I know but I’m getting that partial feel something isn’t…but is as well.
There’s something hidden in there…I can feel it.
Blaze33405 April 5, 2013, 12:08 AM EST.
You can imagine this being terribly emotionally painful for Lucy right now. Mike’s lines must be hitting her pretty hard. That expression she has in the last panel must be real, and not a part of her act.
shaaa April 5, 2013, 12:09 AM EST.
Sanchan April 5, 2013, 12:10 AM EST.
Nice Taeshi, make us wait a weekend to find out the truth Well played well played. What’s next? My guess is that the next few pages is not gonna focus on Mike but someone else. Well, the suspense is totally worth it! Job well done again
Gabria93 April 5, 2013, 12:11 AM EST.
CALLED IT. That look in panel 2 of last strip totally showed what was going to happen… and I hope Sue planned for this somehow. Anyways, nice one Mike. Right on stage… and to think, Lucy might not actually feel that way, and the crowd is going to be extra confused, and ****’s just gonna go all downhill from here…
Anon April 5, 2013, 12:12 AM EST.
I wonder what’ll happen next- UGH WEEKEND.
//waits excitingly for the part where Luce is gonna sing♥ o uo I hope it’s soon.
Yumikarp April 5, 2013, 12:15 AM EST.
@Comrade: “Um, part of the play? Or… real life?” I’ll be ecstatic if it is both… oh who am I kidding I already am . I really hope that they could go back to at least acknowledging the other’s existence… maybe they will do more than just that. Friendship sounds good too, but I won’t get my hopes up too high just yet… I have to be realistic as well . Also, on a more random note: Please no fighting scene where they have to yell at each other… a scene where they let out their sorrow makes more sense… to me at least. Oh well.
@Comerade(from previous page): I will join too.
About BCB and I:
1)I found BCB over a year ago in january… I think .
2)First book I ever purchased by myself… I read plenty of books at the library, don’t judge.
3)Found it during my dark times… Do not want to talk about that.
About abnormal life:
1)I feel old now… I was born in 1992 on December 30, but I don’t act my age all the time.
2)School… results may vary, but overall i’m good student. Great speller.
3)I live on the American East Coast.
About my real name:
1)First name from the bible, my parents are very christian. My last name is Spanish for war, which I find ironic since I only acted physically violent when I was cornered with 2 scared kids by my side. I got defensive, once again don’t judge.
2)My middle name is the same as my father’s first name and my brother’s first name. Luis is a common name… obviously.
3)My first name apparently belong to a wise person long time ago… I guess it is appropriate .
1)I have been writing stories on Microsoft word recently… most have been deleted because they should never be allowed to see the light of day… ever.
2)I’ll start posting BCB related stories when they are completed one by one.
3)I had a third one, but I thought it would be smarter for me to shut up already and that’s why the Amaya emoticon is my favorite .
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 12:16 AM EST.
My guess is that the lines were from the play, but Mike sticking it in Lucy from behind is not.
Shiloh April 5, 2013, 12:16 AM EST.
…my question is…
Is in the audience?
That sure would make things awkward… and make only a small amount of sense, considering Sandy IS busy… but she WOULD be one to surprise Mike like this.
Anon April 5, 2013, 12:17 AM EST.
That last panel just shattered my heart, because the pain in it doesn’t look scripted at all.
minicone April 5, 2013, 12:18 AM EST.
It’s best acting cuz it’s real.
MECHEN DER KRIEGTÖRTILLEM April 5, 2013, 12:18 AM EST.
Oh wow… for some reason I don’t think this s only about the play… I mean… Look at Lucy… She was all like ,,what are you doing?” and her expressions look like ,,god… Sue’s gonna be mad” lol xD I <3 the dramatic <3-ey moment
Iti April 5, 2013, 12:21 AM EST.

1. Born in 1996
2. This year I graduate High School
3. I love to draw and write. I am a very good stundent, have allways been. I live in another country entirely… in Panamá…
About my name:
1. I was named after my grandmother.
2. My name is extremely wierd and can’t be found in any site about name’s so far.
3. My name comes from a novel my great grandma read when she was young. It’s Zelideth.
1. Once I start working I plan to actually buy something of BCB because so far I haven’t been able to convince my parents…
2. I am planing to actually show my fan art of BCB sometime soon.
3. One day I want to write a book. I am very artistic…
PS: I love Paulo…
PSS: Came too late to edit my original comment, sorry :s

I seriously adore this part even though its just a play since its like a “everything will be alright” sign
Midstrike April 5, 2013, 12:37 AM EST.
The only way we’re going to find out which parts are acting or truth is when they finally go backstage. I can’t wait to see the outcome of this.

That might be the script, but the hug? I don’t think so.
AND THEN, THEY BURST INTO SONG!
honeybee April 5, 2013, 12:42 AM EST.
@Vainilla: Seven years? And it’s never bored you?!? Wow. Congratulations, Taeshi.
I’d like to make fanart too, for BCB as well as others, but my art is only slightly less repulsive to people than a large pile of fecal matter. So I write fanfiction instead.
@supertails19: I’d like to write something to you, too, but I am drawing a blank here. Nothing… still nothing… uhh… sorry.
@Both of you: Don’t credit me for this. Henry Wang thought of it first.
@Nikita: The Battle of Caporetto resulted in the Central Powers taking 265,000 Italian prisoners.
Comrade April 5, 2013, 12:43 AM EST.
The real question is: who is really feeling something more here outside of staying in character for the play? It’s ironic how Mike says “I’m here now”. Although he has made it clear he wants nothing to do with Lucy, what is he feeling at the current moment? Is he just staying in character? Or is it something more? It is difficult to tell because their personalities fit their roles so well, it’s a seamless transition from reality to the play. I can’t imagine Mike and Lucy’s relationship remaining stagnant after this kind of interaction, but I’ve never not been surprised by an outcome. I love this chapter. It is definitely my favorite thus far.
*Waiting for Lucy to break out in song now*

Still cool though

Nikita April 5, 2013, 12:45 AM EST.
Is that in the script?
starfighter105 April 5, 2013, 12:46 AM EST.
@Nikita: Want to try it? It will be a nice excuse to talk more about your name.
@TheSonicSegaNerd: I think the shipping levels have been going between critical to stable for most of this chapter… now you can get ready for the drama to go nuclear.
@Nikita: Oh don’t give me that look, it was hard to stop you from talking about your name last page . Also, I think the “About Me” thing was fun to do .
@Comrade: You don’t need to write anything for me I already enjoyed reading some info about on the previous page .
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 12:53 AM EST.
why do I get the feeling this wasn’t in the script (at least not all of it)? call it a sneaking suspicion ;p
Lucy’s face in the last panel has kind of a “that idiot” feel to it.
strider April 5, 2013, 12:53 AM EST.
Maybe this is part of the play and we’re just reading to much into this (Lucy could be just be acting shocked), or maybe its something Mike really means (which would explain why Lucy’s “what the” look).
……………… OR Maybe Mike’s using Lucy as shelter from the rocks, he could just be tired from getting hit with them. Personally, I think Jessica is secretly enjoying this (meanwhile… : what the heck, jerkface?! Get off! I AM NOT gonna get hit all by my self!)
Subaru April 5, 2013, 12:53 AM EST.
Maybe this is the scene Lucy didn’t want to rehearse with Mike..? Hearing him say that after everything that’s happened.. it looks like the poor girl’s locking the moment away to remember.
I get the feeling Lucy is preparing to leave this life behind for whatever her family has planned for her. She’s performing with the one who broke her heart, offering praise and a smile to a good friend, and implications say she got/gave a little sugar to Paulo! And through all this, she’s not telling anyone that she’s leaving. She’s just going to get through this and drop out of their lives.
Pure speculation, but that’s the vibe I’m getting. No matter what happens, I just want the best for Lucy.
Ryuko April 5, 2013, 12:59 AM EST.
You can tell when they’re showing actual emotion by when their pupils get smaller.
Anon April 5, 2013, 1:02 AM EST.
I bet the hugging part wasn’t part of the play because in the third panel she looks angry.
But I can tell Lucy was acting in the last page.
I’m not so sure if mike is acting in this one.
Rioo April 5, 2013, 1:04 AM EST.
uh oh…Lucy isn’t looking so good…. =S
Lolly April 5, 2013, 1:05 AM EST.
IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS SCRIPTED OR NOT. CONFUSION ABOUNDS.
Eeyup April 5, 2013, 1:08 AM EST.
@Ryuko: “No matter what happens, I just want the best for Lucy” -Ryuko.
…. Even if it means that Lucy might have to leave Roseville behind? To leave behind people she once called friends? It seems likely, but I trust that there are a few that will be able to stop her and convince her family to let Lucy stay… or am I being overly hopeful again? These questions don’t need a reply… i’m just thinking .
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 1:08 AM EST.
its so weird, it’s almost as if sue knew all this was going on in real life took advantage of it for fame and notoriety….. or it could be one big coincidence, i don’t know.
chris April 5, 2013, 1:12 AM EST.
I saw this and actually felt as startled as Lucy looks. The last panel…her expression doesn’t fit at all. Kind of like she’s going in her head, “Goddamnit…”
Mike is a bad actor as has been shown/bitched about. And for some reason the tone in my head that he’s using is actually really fake-sounding, and over dramatic. Even if it’s obvious bad acting, the line is too close for comfort for Lucy it seems as she tries to keep her true emotions in check. C’mon Lucy, pull through…
Yaschiri April 5, 2013, 1:14 AM EST.
I love Lucy’s face in the last panel, looks like Mike stepped on her feet
But in a serious note, the play has been so proyective, specially to the role Lucy is playing, it must be an emotional blast to her this scene, where maybe she’d wish Mike said that for real and seems like she’s going to cry for real, even if it isn’t in the script
KarmaKitty April 5, 2013, 1:20 AM EST.
So mike is being sentimental. I dont think he was acting at all, deep inside he dislike what he did and yes pretty awkward
Othoniel April 5, 2013, 1:20 AM EST.
Her eyes are back?
Sanchan April 5, 2013, 1:22 AM EST.
@Comrade: I saw yours first, but hey Henry got a nice idea xD
@supertails19 and @Nikita : Well, yes it was fun!! mmmm Maybe it could become a meme?
The more I read this page the more confused I get… It’s hard to tell if it’s acting and part of the play or real… I will have to wait and see, like always xD This is why I never get bored! xD
…. Also I somehow got 100 in the baby quiz. I feel proud of myself xD
Vainilla April 5, 2013, 1:26 AM EST.
I saw first panel and was all like:
now everyone around is looking at me strangely (-__-,)
Pyre_of_Onyx April 5, 2013, 1:26 AM EST.
I think that Mike’s just saying what’s in the script but it struck a very personal chord for Lucy.
why can’t u actually say this Mike without the play’s help
RoseVee April 5, 2013, 1:27 AM EST.
I keep thinking Lucy is thinking “What are you doing?!?” Meaning that what Mike is doing isn’t in the script. Mike can be a terrible actor, but when put in his element, he is a natural.
Purin April 5, 2013, 1:31 AM EST.
@RoseVee: “why can’t u actually say this Mike without the play’s help” -RoseVee. Uhh’ because Mike is so oblivious to others’ feelings that he needed an entire play just to help him out. The “what a loser” comment rings true in more ways than I realized . *just realized* Is Mike talking to her left(deaf) ear?! Oh wait nevermind he is speaking loud enough for her to hear… I think?
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 1:32 AM EST.
I think they’re acting ability is being underestimated and this IS part of the play.
Cyph April 5, 2013, 1:43 AM EST.

You’re not allowed to feel old, you’re a good 6-7 years younger than me.

Comrade April 5, 2013, 3:01 AM EST.
I really like the shading on the second-last panel on Lucy’s face. The darker parts and her expression really convey real surprise… or the face of a real actor.
I do hope that this is part of the play though and not a huge mess-up on Lucy’s part… because there’s no way Mike has forgiven her already.
Just-A-Lurker April 5, 2013, 3:04 AM EST.
wow Lucy’s lookin’ a lot like her mom in the second to last panel u__u
Hell In my Clouds April 5, 2013, 3:13 AM EST.
My my my. Seems Mike may have had a change of heart! Possibly he is apologizing or maybe he’s acting. I don’t really know. I think it may be the former as Lucy if you notice her eyes, she isn’t just shocked, the shock has brought her eyes alight! We see a return of the little shiny dot in everyone else’s eyes in her eyes this comic. Notice her eyes are as dead as ever last update yet Taeshi decided to add the shiny dots in Lucy’s eyes even though they were that tiny shocked size. The last time we saw those were with Daisy in the audience and normally they have no detail, they’re just dots. Here Taeshi purposefully put the details in Lucy’s eyes to show her genuine shock. Plus someone did say “What are you doing?!?!”, and I may add with no line pointing to who it was who said it, suggesting that it might have been Sue.
SEGAMAN April 5, 2013, 3:13 AM EST.
Lol @ everyone, Mike obviously is using his acting skills to use Lucy as a shield against those rocks.
Marik April 5, 2013, 3:24 AM EST.
Kind of hoping Mike isn’t totally acting here. Unfortunately my gut says he’ll be his normal passive aggressive *** self after this play to here and that Augustus will seem nicer.

Laufente April 5, 2013, 4:39 AM EST.
Mike it totally into character at this point, but I think he might actually mean some of what he says.
Lucy is more like, “God, Sue, what kind of corny-cheesy plot is this?”
foreveryoung5 April 5, 2013, 4:48 AM EST.
chances are this is just part of the play, since from what i can tell, veronica isn’t too interested in taking the proper course and changing the pace of things…
mike and lucy should settle things here and possibly even start getting back into each other, there are still PLENTY of interesting choices and twists that can happen along that path…
sticking with how things are, though, and just making this part of the play, will keep things exactly as they are… boring and predictable.
things will continue like this for another 30 chapters or so before going anywhere half-decent.
i just don’t see the lucy/paulo thing working, it is incredibly stupid and makes about as much sense as a celibate nun getting with a rapist serial killer.
well, even though i am 99.9% sure where this is going to go… let’s see if veronica can actually surprise people… well, people with brains, anyway.
Thanatos April 5, 2013, 4:59 AM EST.
@Nikita: You can call it “Jiangnan Style” if you want.—for I live in Jiangnan part of China.
p.s. “Jiangnan” is the same as “Gangnam”.
Actually, I did not say anything about my real name at all, I want to keep it as a secret.
Another thing, you have the same first name as the USSR president N.S.Khrushchev.
@Comrade: A Communist in the USA?
I am a person who belive Free Market in PRC.
Add one more thing, my birthday is 1998.8.11. I’m in Grade 9. Grade 9 belongs to junior middle school here. About 30% of middle school students in China can pass the Senior Middle School Entrance Exam. That is not a problem for me at all. But the situation is not good, although I am a top student, because I want to be in the top high school in the city which I live.
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 5:06 AM EST.
Play = Ruined, Sue is going to murder you for this Mike.
Anon-Anon April 5, 2013, 5:16 AM EST.
I don’t think the hug is part of they play, the words may be for later, but over all I think Mike acted on his own. look at Lucy’s face in the last panel, I don’t think she believes him because the last time he said something like this was on that island when Mike almost, well he did fall but he lived, fell to his death. As I said before, I am a Lucy X Mike fan boy, so I hurts me when I think that this is just part of the play. Maybe, if it is part of the play, Lucy is wishing Mike would say this to her in real life, maybe Mike is using his real emotions to say this in the play the give her a real aapologie , sorry if I misspelled I am great at just about everything in school except writing, and punctuation, latter but I just don’t think Lucy believes Mike at this point. If it is not part of the play, then Sue is going to murder Mike, no matter what. Unless he and Lucy start dating, which right now is very unlikely as Mike just told Sandy that he loves her and all that mushy gooy stuff, so if they are going to go out before the series ends it will be later in the story. @everyone reading this: alot can happen in 18 chapters, Taeshi announced that BCB will end in chapter 92, I may not be exact but it is somewhere in that rang.
Devin April 5, 2013, 5:24 AM EST.
Sorry about the BCB ending in 18 chapters. I got the idea because the archives said the they are sorted into 92 chapters, so like an idiot I thought that meant that BCB would end at chapter 92. So sorry for being wrong.
Devin April 5, 2013, 5:39 AM EST.
Oh what a convenient play for our characters’ development
Twinkel13 April 5, 2013, 5:49 AM EST.
What is Sue feeling?
Claps and shouts with excitement and joy.
Or want to get an AK74 and kill the two employees.
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 5:51 AM EST.
How much of Mike’s performance is improvised, I hesitate to comment on. But I doubt that Lucy’s reaction can be used as an indicator. This is basically what a huge part of her must have yearned to hear for months now. Not to mention, thanks to December, this should be, in her mind, one of the last times she ever talks to Mike. As far as the shock goes… No matter how much you’re expecting it, when someone you really like hugs you it can cause a jolt. Tummy butterflies and all.
Either way this page makes me ache for Lucy.

That felt really forced from Mike, whether it was part of the script or not.
Sue you are horrible at character development.

Okey, Taeshi is really smart.
A ‘female O. Henry among comics’.
I don’t know what’s going on.
Maybe poor Sue has to change the script and call some actors else to stop this stage accident.
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 6:29 AM EST.
Mike’s a better actor than we thought, given his, uh….. “disposition”…. towards Lucy.
Wow. Whether this is play material or not, just look at the expressions! In four panels, Lucy goes from shocked, to downright angry. Then, with the coming of those lines, (Conveniently similar to what she has probably been wanting to hear for a while now), it looks like she becomes apprehensive and somewhat unsure of what’s going on.
That final panel shows something close to a sigh of relief, but along the lines of exasperation, accompanied by a hint of longing. Huh, I wonder why?
It’s funny because, despite what is happening, I can’t help but feel that the gap between them is almost getting bigger, or at least not closing at all, as this progresses. I’ll pretty sure I’ll end up wrong though.
ALSO! I’m legitimately surprised at the people who feel open/comfortable enough to share rather personal aspects of their life. You don’t usually see that sort of openness many other places on the internet.

I read this as being both natural and scripted—scripted in, but also being read with actually genuine emotion. It could all be part of Sue’s plan to get them being friends again. Either that or it’s uh… let’s call it improv
Ket April 5, 2013, 8:06 AM EST.
Either Mike turned into a awesome actor and Sues script makes no sense or our little sour-puss Mike saw what an *** he was to her and wants to make it up to her (not like he can, I wouldn’t forgive him if I were Lucy )
B-Dawg April 5, 2013, 8:40 AM EST.
Well, Sue picked the right actors if she was looking for genuine emotion, though considering whats been mentioned of Mike’s acting skills perhaps the less acting that is required the better.
Though I was kind of hoping for Lucy to be more of a cursed and lonely archon of death who slowly kills others nearby if she wants to or not. But then again I just finished The Cat Lady so I don’t think I can qualify as being of sound mind at the moment.

I have no idea April 5, 2013, 9:27 AM EST.
I guess I am the only person who thinks that this is a big troll on Sue’s part.
She really fought to get them into those leading roles during auditions, after all. I think she purposely wrote those lines so that they could say what they SHOULD be saying without really saying it… if that makes sense ^^;
They wouldn’t say those things out loud if there wasn’t a play but all their friends want them to stop acting the way they are and make up and this is a sort of ‘round about’ way of doing just that.
Of course, the thought that this is Lucy’s crazy mind complexing the situation crossed my mind too. Mike is saying what Sue wrote but Lucy is really taking it to heart because of her current state of mind- is Mike really emphasising the words the way she thinks he is? Is he really hugging her? I don’t know. Lucy is crazy and Sue is a troll.

Because the only time Mike could probably say this right now is in the context of acting.
I may not be a LucyxMike shipper, but I want them to make up and be friends again just because I hate the way their relationship is right now.
Also, what kind of namby-pamby hero hugs the villain rather than using it as an opportunity to be all “STOP YOUR VILE WAYS NOW; YOU STILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO CHANGE.” Sue, you can’t just fanfictionalize real life. That isn’t how this works. :U
Neveko April 5, 2013, 10:57 AM EST.
If I am correct, that hug was out of plan, so Lucy was really surprised, although I am quite sure that Mike was just saying what Sue asked him to say.
Mike really realized something more than a drama. Lucy’s acting skill is really perfect, —for she was performing herself.
I do not look forward to seeing Mike go back to Lucy, it’s necessary to think of Sandy. Hope that this drama will go well.

Best actor ever good choice sue! A great actor…right??
Kai the koi April 5, 2013, 12:06 PM EST.
@Henry Wang: You are forgiven as long as you don’t compare Veronica to a villain ever again. I don’t care if you meant well… it was wrong. About me getting a Chinese name… I don’t speak Chinese so I don’t see the point of doing that. Also, nice job with the “About Me” thing you did on the previous page. It was fun to be open and honest with others on here, just like always .
@Kai the koi: If Mike can go from pointing a sword at Lucy to giving her a hug and make it relatively believable then yeah he is the second best actor in this play… first goes to Lucy who is doing a good job with her facial expressions(shocked, angry, unsure, acceptance/annoyance) Sorry but I can’t tell what the last panel is =_=. They should go to Hollywood TOGETHER… because with this performance they will be famous .
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 12:18 PM EST.
lol, this play is mirroring what they both should be doing, but are too touchy-feely to go through with.
For some reason, Lucy is reminding me of…Rastlin, from Dragonlance? Maybe Mike is Caremon or whatever his brother’s name is?
Also, I like how horrified Lucy looks on the first panel. She’s like “wtf are you touching me?”
Anyways, we all know they’re not going to make up and they might tip-toe towards each other with good-intentions, but it’s going to always blow up and y’all know it. Keep feeding that cycle, boom, boom, boom! Fire everywhere.

Chinatsu April 5, 2013, 12:29 PM EST.
There might be a little extra emotion thrown in by Mike (maybe, though it’s hard to tell), but I’m pretty sure this is just part of the play. Perhaps his character’s the one who winds up cursed in the end.
etyb April 5, 2013, 12:33 PM EST.
Mike is just getting tired of being hit by rocks so basically he used Lucy as a shield.
Polygonicat April 5, 2013, 12:38 PM EST.
@etyb: What if Mike is the one that starts getting over-emotional and Lucy has to be the one to go console him and go “there there, everything will be alright” … what a role reversal that would be.
“Perhaps his character’s the one who winds up cursed in the end.” -etyb. Huh… Mike taking the burden away from Lucy would be incredibly nice, but I think he would rather find a way to eliminate the burden than to go back to shouldering it again… wait am I even talking about the curse anymore .
@Chinatsu: More like: Not sure if want. <_< who would not want a hug. Oh right…
Random thought: This would be the perfect time for somebody to take a picture of them hugging and spread it around the school so everyone could see… wow nevermind that would be cruel . Especially to Paulo who would have to see them hugging everywhere DX.
supertails19 April 5, 2013, 12:42 PM EST.

I wonder… Is it really just the play? You never know, I guess. I thought Mike sucked at acting? Hmmm… I also wonder if those are the real lines, or if those are lines at all. The “What are you doing?!” Made me think that this part was quite possibly not planned…
OHH, THE SUSPENSE! I love plays so much. So exited for Monday!
Alaystus April 5, 2013, 1:12 PM EST.
If Mike is expressing how he’s feeling in this part, there are a few things that comes to mind now: How will Mike react when he hears what Lucy is going through, will we ever hear what Lucy’s family is gonna do with her based on what happened in the New Year’s chapter, and what can Mike exactly do to help when he pretty much made her feel so dead inside?
Dudeler April 5, 2013, 1:14 PM EST.
Meh, I’m playing this one straight and assuming what’s going on is just part of the play, possibly with a little extra emotion from both actors with their history in mind. And on the note of the play, I’m thinking Mike’s character does/says something that leads to the curse being passed on to him—not taking it willingly from Lucy’s character.

Mike not only does not mean it, but can give this performance only because he’s so thick he does not see the double meaning, that is what I see. All that is known for certain is that Lucy knows whether this is what they rehearsed.
Great expressions in this one.
StraightFace April 5, 2013, 3:31 PM EST.
The thought had come to mind for me, too. Could Mike possibly be so naive, though? Is it even possible for anyone to be that naive?
Although, if he did know about any supposed “double meaning”, he might not have been willing to do it.
EVEN still, although this is what Lucy might be longing to hear, it could by no means be sincere.
People should know that, though optimism would hope so, it really isn’t a sincere apology (yet). It really is most likely face value; just a line of acting on stage, superficial and surreal. Though it might be enough to settle Lucy a bit, however hollow the “apology” is.

@Comrade: comrade Persian, you said you are a communist in the USA, I think it is hard to understand communism, as a PRC citizen, live in a socialist country. Well, I do not think that socialism is a indispensable prelude to communism. But things we can only do is to accept the actuality. A joke with black humor: “Communists have killed more people than Nazis did”(74,000,000 — 53,000,000). Okey, we need 26 more years to find out who is right. Capitalism or Communism?
Henry Wang April 5, 2013, 8:02 PM EST.
Lucy’s face confuses me O.O I’m wondering if that’s part of the script of if that’s what Mike had been wanting to tell her this entire time.

@HenryWang: Well, for start my name isn’t literally Persian, I meant it’s of Persian origins. But that’s not important now.
I am a Communist because here in the United States, every day you can see two things: uber-rich corporations and fat cats throwing money around like it’s pepper and downtrodden ghetto-dwellers and homeless who often can’t afford to live. I know of Red China and the USSR’s dark history, but then capitalism fueled the British Empire, Nazi Germany, Imperial Japan and of course the not-quite-pristine U.S. of A. I would say it’s sort of a pick-your-poison kind of thing.

Mimi April 5, 2013, 10:47 PM EST.
Okay so this either is in the play or it isn’t.. Either way with Lucy’s expression, to me, looks more to be like “I’ve wanted you to say those things to me.. But now…”
A.) (like others have said) Sue is going to kill you if this wasn’t in her play.
B.) It doesn’t even matter anymore..
I’m going a little more towards B though.. I mean after waiting all that time for him to probably say something like that.. It would probably still mean something, only a little.. But because she has waited to hear somethin like that for awhile, it would lose a lot of its meaning. :S
Either that or she has came to terms with what mike has said about her in “December,” so his little apology wouldn’t probably even matter much in the first place.
Quill April 5, 2013, 11:01 PM EST.
And such the line between play and real feelings starts to blur
shoop-a-doop April 5, 2013, 11:56 PM EST.
You know, Mike wasn’t a good actor in the first place. Even after his time with practicing with Lucy, he might have just flubbed in the script. So it could be the reason to why Lucy is all ‘O_o Wtf are you doing?’ before getting too into the words.
Mike doesn’t seem remorseful. Doubt he is… If he wanted to apologize, I’m sure he would have done it during their practice, not during the play. That would have been incredibly forced drama in my book. xD’

And now he finally breaks…but during the play…Nice….
Anima April 6, 2013, 12:05 AM EST.
This kinda feels like this part isn’t actually in the play, but at the same time, I feel like it is.
Lucy’s face looks like she’s genuinely surprised that Mike is actually hugging her (or it just could be the acting) and the way Mike trails off at the end sounds like he’s starting to show real emotion (but I’m not actually sure if he really truly feels that way, considering how indifferent he’s been acting a lot of this time).
Though, I do believe that Lucy does, in fact, seem to be letting her emotions get to her. I get the feeling that she’s either strong enough now to push him away, or that she’s just going to come back and sink into her feelings (but the latter doesn’t seem as likely anymore).
JustSaying April 6, 2013, 12:22 AM EST.
Everyone seems hopeful that this isn’t part of the play, but given how much faith I have in Mike, and how much of a jerk he has been, I seriously think that this is acting. I hope (on the unlikely chance this is real) that Lucy pushes him off and goes to give Paulo some more lovin’, because hell, Paulo is a cutey. And Mike doesn’t deserve forgiveness. You can’t just crush someone’s heart and soul and then expect for everything to be okay.

It looks like everything is going as planned until panel 3. Lucy looks like she is upset, because Mike screwed up his lines and Mike is hugging her! But panel 4 she is realizing this isn’t him acting and he means it. I doubt Sue would make Mike hug Lucy.
Oh God, notice Lucy’s speech bubble is curving, I think that is her whispering to Mike. I hope on Monday Sue’s play was ruined, it would be worth it! Also Lucy’s eyes closing also makes me think this is not according to script. Mike my respect for you has returned.

Henry Wang April 6, 2013, 4:09 AM EST.
With what I’ve seen in the past few pages, I can definitely believe that this was a genuine apology from Mike. There are many things that led me to believe that Mike’s sudden outburst of emotion, was more than part of a mere script; one of which being Mike’s expression in the previous page. Mike’s expression, as seen before in the comic, is one of realization and guilt. As Lucy said her lines, Mike may have forgotten for a second of the play and thought that what Lucy said was pertaining to her and not the character she portrayed. Though this is what I believe, I’m not entirely sure whether or not Mike’s expression was from the rocks. In the current page, the greatest factors to my idea of this being real and not acted, are once again the facial expressions. In Panels two and three, Mike’s face ( To me ) appears to show regret and his desire to show how remorseful he his of his actions against Lucy. I mean Mike was never really known to be a great actor, could you honestly believe that he could act out such a genuine and sincere outburst of emotion towards one that he presumably hates? No, this is far more liable to be something actually happening regardless of the live performance they’re putting on. Lucy’s facial expressions also seem to be genuine. Lucy’s surprised look in panel three shows that this was clearly not part of the scene. Note that Mike’s character in the play probably wouldn’t react to those lines in that manner due to the fact that he never knew his sister and would likely be skeptical as to whether or not she is his sister. Another thing, Lucy’s expression in the final two panels show her shock, as she appears to be utterly speechless as Mike says what he does.
And also, to the many who use the idea of Sue being the one who said “What are you doing?!” , note that Lucy’s face says otherwise. Her mouth is open and she’s looking at Mike with frustration, meaning she is liable to have been the one who said it rather than Sue.
Regardless of all that I have used to prove my thought on the matter, all any of us know at the moment, is that Lucy knows whether or not this is part of the play. However, I honestly don’t believe that Sue could do such a thing to Lucy, knowing what she has gone through. Be that as it may, I do recall that nobody but Lucy, Mike, and Lily know what transpired in Mike’s room in “December”, so if Sue HAS made this part of the script, she did it to try and get Mike to start talking things through with Lucy.
But, we will have to wait until the next glorious unveiling on Monday to find out if I’m right or not! Love the comic Taeshi, you’re an amazing artist and author and I hope you and Oliver have a long prosperous life together!
Thatoneguy April 6, 2013, 4:30 AM EST.
Uh, oh hell it IS getting personal. It’s getting very personal. Lucy no likey!
God having him yell at you that he hates you, and then having to let him hug you like that? Bitch please.
Follarch April 6, 2013, 5:10 AM EST.
There is another solution to this quandry. Perhaps Mike has stopped caring one way or another regarding Lucy. No hate, no love, not friends. This could simply be part of the play, in fact I believe it is just part of the play. I consider the idea that the exchange was not completely scripted, to be ludicrous. Mike would never ruin Sue’s play like that, if only because he has a healthy sense of self-preservation.
Sue had practically demanded that Mike and Lucy play these specific roles, if the given script has mike realizing he may have screwed up, it’s probobly all part of Sue’s master plan.
But what if it was all unintentional, all this in the script, the parallels between the characters and the actors are purely coincidental. Why should Mike care? All he wanted was for Lucy to stop bothering him, and that appears to have happened. His hatred for her could have cooled and died because she finally is leaving him alone.
Mike, and Lucy for that matter, could see this solely as part of the play, doing their job. There is no direct evidence to say otherwise, only speculation and epeliptic trees.
Untill I see something in the comic to insinuate that this play is affecting Mike and Lucy’s relationship, I will assume that it is not.
RandomPhrases April 6, 2013, 7:47 AM EST.
This could also just be improv. Sue may have told him to change the lines at this part to catch her off guard and add to the realness and drama of the play.

Depressed and funny usually don’t go together. Unless, of course, they are so depressed it’s funny, but that usually means you’re a bad person. Also, Google Translate says that means ‘silent’ or ‘speechless’. It is Google Translate though so it may not be correct.
Nikita April 6, 2013, 4:14 PM EST.
Wow. Ok. Didn’t see that coming. WHAT’S GONNA HAPPEN!!!!!?????

One small step for Mike
One giant *** leap for MikexLucy
TheRealSomeone(akaSomeone April 6, 2013, 6:17 PM EST.
I think that Mike is sticking to the script though whether Lucy sticks to it or starts letting everything that was bottled up inside of her pour out is another question. She might break down on stage. Maybe she will start to let everything out and it will turn into another argument with Mike.
Rae-Nex April 6, 2013, 7:06 PM EST.
That is a a good theory, I don’t she will yell at Mike. She might start breaking down.
TheRealSomeone(akaSomeone April 6, 2013, 7:38 PM EST.
….aaaand Mike accidentally pokes her with his sword
NEO April 6, 2013, 10:22 PM EST.
It’s only been, what, maybe a month in BCB time since the stuff in “December”, right? What makes anyone think Mike’s suddenly done a 180 concerning Lucy?
etyb April 7, 2013, 12:50 AM EST.
@etyb: Just Beautiful.
Comrade April 7, 2013, 1:13 AM EST.
Because, think of it like this, one of your closest friends in the world does something to you that makes you feel like he stabbed you in the back and has only been using you. Because of this, you absolutely lose it and go off on him, leaving him distraught over the idea that he may have lost his best friend. After a few days, you start to notice a change in him, seeing him depressed and speechless, a feeling of guilt soon begins to engulf you as you begin to realize that you may have taken it too far. Day after day, the amount of remorse you feel grows, up to the point where you can’t stand to believe that you said such a thing to him and try to find out how you could apologize and get him up and running again. All of this could have happened in no less than two days.
What I’m trying to say is…
The amount of time that it takes for someone to realize that they’ve done someone wrong can vary from a few hours, to a few years… If over a month has passed since “December”, Mike has probably had more than enough time to think about what he said to Lucy and whether or not it was too much.
Sandy also helped him out with it, saying that she didn’t want them to stop being friends, she just wanted Lucy to treat him better, and then told him to just talk it out with her.
Thatoneguy April 7, 2013, 1:26 AM EST.
Now is better than never.
Yxela007 April 7, 2013, 2:06 AM EST.
Sandy is a conniving harlot, and nothing anyone can say will convince me otherwise.
…Fashion models, man.
Crystalwhisker April 7, 2013, 2:19 AM EST.
@bluefox: I will remain safe in my space ship. Good luck sinking it . Don’t be ashamed of what you do unless you suddenly decide to go trolling one day… then you could be ashamed. Umm, there is a forum topic called “Introduce Yourself.” Well, i’m pretty sure that is what the topic is called.
@Thatoneguy: Yep, that sounds about right. When guilt hits, it hits like a brick. Mike definitely had enough time to get the message through. All it took was several rehearsals, an entire play, a hint from his girlfriend, and about a month to let out all the fumes… now it is apology time. Unless I am giving Mike too much credit and he is actually just reading his lines. That would be so messed up for Sue to make a play that is essentially designed to just add to the pain that Lucy is trying to deal with. At least it is bringing them closer together like Sue planned(look they are physically closer together). Now if only a Lucy didn’t look so emotionally distant on the last panel .
supertails19 April 7, 2013, 3:18 AM EST.
Gotta be part of the play, I think she’s cut herself off emotionally when it comes to “Maishul”.
Suzume April 7, 2013, 3:54 AM EST.
Although we haven’t seen much of him in general since “Demember”, there’s been nothing to suggest that he feels badly or guilty for his actions in that chapter. The only reason he sought Lucy out was on Sandy’s insistence—he certainly had no desire of his own to do it because he felt (and probably still does) feel in the right. I imagine if this play weren’t going on, he would’ve continued avoiding her until the next time Sandy brings the subject up.
Speaking of which, this is a play. Dramatic stuff tends to happen at some point during plays. Although these last few pages appear to mirror “real life”, keep in mind that Sue, a friend who’s well-aware of their history, is the author, and likely worked in a bunch so they could, not just play, but really feel and “be” their respective parts.
I’m gonna feel awfully dumb if I’m wrong and all this really is Mike’s attempt at an apology, heh.

Header animation changed everyone
Taeshi April 7, 2013, 6:30 AM EST.
@Nikita: Baidu Translate gave the same answers. Of course, that may not right, too. I searched in Baidu dictionary, and found four different answers!
Henry Wang April 7, 2013, 6:32 AM EST.
@Taeshi: ???I don’t understand what did you say.
May I ask you a question, Miss. Vera?
What do those numbers mean?
Henry Wang April 7, 2013, 6:34 AM EST.
@Taeshi: Okey, I know.
Henry Wang April 7, 2013, 6:37 AM EST.
@Taeshi: Some advice in business.
1. Opening those secret comics equals more advertisement income.
2. Offering different kinds of stories with same characters may attract different kinds of readers.
3. Personal charm can not work forever, you need real benefit for fans.
4. Increase the price need paying to enter the BCB club. Or you will get a too large group to lead.
5. Take those fancharacters. That is a free resource. Why not use it?
6. Trying to open a larger market. A good businessman never miss any places to gain profits.
Henry Wang April 7, 2013, 6:48 AM EST.
I want monday.
Sly April 7, 2013, 10:21 AM EST.
Wow. This can not go well.
This is far beyond salt in a wound.
I’m not sure what metaphor to use for something of this drama magnitude.
Dr.Z April 7, 2013, 11:14 AM EST.
Well either way, it’s gonna be great, but we’ll have to wait till Monday to find out! Hell for all we know, this could some devious elaborate plan Taeshi made to confuse the hell out of us… Who knows??
Thatoneguy April 7, 2013, 11:43 AM EST.
From Mike and Lucy’s expressions I think that this is a genuine apology. That fact that Lucy looks like she was hit in the gut, just like in “December” or close to it, and is struggling to comprehend what Mike is saying. I mean he did just do a 180/ bipolar turnover from hating Lucy to wanting to be her best friend, again, PR the guilt is crushing him like I silently thought, and hoped, I would. I wanted Mike to be crushed by guilt so that he would apologize and for no other reason.
Devin April 7, 2013, 11:44 AM EST.
First off, it’s part of the play. Mike really doesn’t care if Lucy’s alone or not. He wants her to just go off and die. Second, if the girl in he play is really alone, then who taught her to wear clothes and speak English? Just saying, plot hole.
Oni April 7, 2013, 12:27 PM EST.
was that in the script?

@ supertails There just about the same thing small confined places that are air tight and surrounded by cold darkness . Except im surrounded by sea life and your surrounded by nothing ness. I forget what trolling is. Someone said what it meant some time ago but I forgot. And yes I was referring to the forum topic introduce yourself.
Blue fox April 7, 2013, 2:50 PM EST.
I’m 100% sure that it’s the play.
Psych0Kitten April 7, 2013, 6:16 PM EST.
I totally just realized that Mike and Lucy are the same height in panel two. Maybe Lucy’s character’s powers are causing Mike to shrink
etyb April 7, 2013, 6:43 PM EST.
Lucy is actually taller in that panel, and Mike is crouched over.
TheRealSomeone(akaSomeone April 7, 2013, 7:08 PM EST.
Uh, I’m not actually sure if Mike broke character. So is this part of the play?
Raikuso April 8, 2013, 10:23 AM EST.
O my god Lucy. No. You don’t react like that! But in all seriousness, this scene is extremely awkward, Sue. She really doesn’t know how to read the atmosphere and change it something less, i don’t know, touchy?
Timni April 12, 2013, 1:30 AM EST.
Mike better get at the end of the “Kiss my *** Line”.
Because I still can’t believe about what happened in “December”, he was all happy and stuff with Sandy because she somehow got him to be mad at Lucy about her problem, even though she had a few flaws that could be fixed while Lucy was left miserable until someone had to come to her.
Doctor_Who April 16, 2013, 6:06 AM EST.
I think shes gonna stand there and think its real for a sec… then awkwardly sue says, “Psst, Lucy *waves hand* keep going”
butterflyslicer April 23, 2013, 9:28 AM EST.
last panel, her face -_-
Zero_Izanagi April 26, 2013, 2:48 PM EST.
Play: “I’m here now.”
Real life: “Goddamnit you’re such a parasitic bitch I HATE YOU.”
Vix October 25, 2013, 10:16 AM EST.
I was confused whether that part of Mike apologizing and Lucy’s “WHAT ARE YOU DOING” were part of the play or not, considering the storyline at this point
