sequel to jane elbow
Well, that was awkward. Where is everyone else while this is happening anyways? Either way, Daisy doesn’t seem to be able to take a hint. She should probably ask Rachel, she seems like the kind of person who would be most open about this.
Hell, it’s about time DC had an intervention. That ****’s out of control.

Well hey. Paulo is getting a bit uncomfortable. I would be too if I were in his shoes. Also, is that a new comment Avatar/Icon for Taeshi? It looks cute, I like it.
SaraSloth August 22, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
Way to change the subject paulo

Real smooth Paulo…
goose August 22, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
Well, it seems Paulo is having a hard time expressing his distaste for the scenario. (I think) in order to keep up his reputation as the ladies-man. Ah well.
EvilCoffeeInc August 22, 2013, 1:04 PM EST.
And thats how you know that it is too personal for Paulo to talk.
Keyblade Dragon August 22, 2013, 1:05 PM EST.
Wafflesftw August 22, 2013, 1:05 PM EST.
Not the best change of topic attempt Paulo, you should always go with a distraction and flee tactic in these types of awkward situation.
Chrisd765 August 22, 2013, 1:06 PM EST.
Grabbing the first thing available and trying to distract with it. A valuable tactic, indeed. Like…
“Oh hey check out this awesome sandwich!”
But yeah, that last panel is pretty hilarious. It’s basically ‘oh wait what DID I just grab?’ That expression alone practically sells it, here. Although, Daisy does look somewhat upset about him seemingly ignoring her. She’ll probably get a bit huffy about it.
Oceanus92 August 22, 2013, 1:06 PM EST.
Good save Paulo! She’ll surely forget the original topic haha
Furball August 22, 2013, 1:07 PM EST.

“When opportunity knocks!”
I’ve never really agreed with the “guys just like sex and want to have it all the time because they’re horny ********” stereotype (this IS high school, but still). Still, guys and girls tend to view losing their virginity as completely different events. For guys, stereo-typically it’s something to brag about. For girls, it tends to be a more intimate encounter, something that proves they’re with the right person. I do think Daisy would be better off asking one of the girls at the table. Tess, or heck, even Jess or Rache, though Rache may not be the best choice, given her views of sex.
I guess it’s natural for her to want to go to someone close, like Paulo, though. I enjoy how candidly Daisy can talk about sex. It’s refreshing to see a few characters whose views of sex are a little more healthy and reasonable than the average teenager’s.
Eemia August 22, 2013, 1:13 PM EST.
She needs to get the low down from Rachel. Aww yea!
Fluffy August 22, 2013, 1:18 PM EST.
he just grabbed that out of her backpack? What if a condom dropped out of the pages???
toydoc August 22, 2013, 1:22 PM EST.
Daisy’s expresion on the last panel is one of not being amused…. run Paulo before this gets any more awkward. Or at least tell her they should talk about something like that somewhere that probably doesn’t have a large amount of people.
Venorik August 22, 2013, 1:22 PM EST.
Hahaha, Daisy, you’re technically asking the wrong person
You need to ask someone who’se more confident with themselves…like Rachel
Chocothunda August 22, 2013, 1:31 PM EST.
Jane Ear? What an… interesting… book title.
Saphire August 22, 2013, 1:32 PM EST.
Daisy ain’t in the mood for your bull-honkey, Paulo. Awnser the question, and amuse us all with your angst for Lucy.
Meow August 22, 2013, 1:32 PM EST.
That’s too obvious, distract her with math problems
Sheichii August 22, 2013, 1:34 PM EST.
I think the only way daisy would understand that you don’t want to talk about it is by SAYING IT, Paulo………. but then again, Daisy would keep insisting. You have no choice but to amuse the audience now, Paulo -pats pats-
Subaru August 22, 2013, 1:52 PM EST.
I think that Daisy is prolly going to end up letting everyone know that her and abbey are thinking of doing it if she asks all her friends. Plus they are in the same circle, it’s just going to include many people on her personal life.
Maybe this is just me, but I wouldn’t want everyone and their brother in on my plans, especially when you’re at the age were a concerned friend may tattle to mom and dad.
I_Love_Lucy August 22, 2013, 1:57 PM EST.
That could easily be summarized to:
Dance my minion DANCE!
0 August 22, 2013, 1:57 PM EST.
Throw some incomplete cubic functions at her.
Mag August 22, 2013, 2:04 PM EST.
I guess for Paulo this is like talking to your little sister about losing your virginity no wonder he feels so awkward!
Mimimi August 22, 2013, 2:05 PM EST.
Paulo fails again.
starfighter105 August 22, 2013, 2:09 PM EST.
Haha Paulo is stuck between trying to maintain his «cool» image and not showing his jerk side to Daisy
Probably the most uncomfortable moment of his life. I love how he desperately tries to change the subject
Sambo August 22, 2013, 3:11 PM EST.
Yeah, talking about losing virginity is different between a guy and a girl.
For a guy it is often a moment of pride and for a girl, as many have put previously, can be an “earth shattering” moment.
Paulo further supports this with “umm…it was fine” and “well…when opportunity knocks!”
Most, if not all guys are hardwired deep down in their genetic code to seek out and lose their virginity, multiple times, and enjoy the process greatly. It is not a thought or a consideration, it is simply a fundamental instinct that guys have to control, because we don’t live in the “wild” anymore.
Girls feel special because of this concept that they have what the guy wants, but can’t get without jumping through massive hurdles to provide evidence of “trust”. Because of this, most girls want the justification that the guy likes her for more than her body, because she doesn’t want to feel like an “object”, “used”, or “another piece of meat”.
If Daisy really wants it and Abbey wants to give it, they should experiment with it a little or give it a “test run”. However, if they can wait that might ultimately be for the better (social applications notwithstanding).
I know you’ve been cultivating the emotions for “intimate love” Daisy, and now that you have a guy, a good guy, who is close, you feel it’s time to take it to the next level. However, you should discuss this with someone of the same gender (Jess or Rach) who have “been there” and relay to you in words their experiences, which you can then better drawn your own conclusions on this matter.
Blank On Purpose August 22, 2013, 3:11 PM EST.
Blank On Purpose I think you mean Abbey and not Paulo in your 2nd to last paragraph!
Sambo August 22, 2013, 3:13 PM EST.
Thanks Sambo. Just changed it. Phew!
Blank On Purpose August 22, 2013, 3:15 PM EST.
fail, Blank On Purpose. Fail
Nice-Hero August 22, 2013, 3:18 PM EST.
put don´t worry, pro.
Nice-Hero August 22, 2013, 3:19 PM EST.
I am surprised that Paulo can even English right now.
StraightFace August 22, 2013, 3:29 PM EST.
This is when I would run. Sooooooo RUN PAULO! Or stay and die of embarrassment or of awkwardness.
RPG Nerd August 22, 2013, 3:29 PM EST.
Aw come on Paulo, if there is ANYBODY in the world that you could talk to about this, it’s Daisy.
And Blank on Purpose: dude, that is like…insulting to guys everywhere. I don’t think nature has hardwired nearly as much as you think. Social conditioning has a lot more to do with our development than anything else. (Our studies of severely neglected children have taught us a lot in that area, as sad as their circumstances were they are invaluable to science in this area) If guys feel the need to screw a bunch of ladies and feel pride at doing so, that’s mostly society telling them that it’s still a valid mindset when really we should be moving past teaching mindsets like that. But we’ve still got those dads that go “rock on, kiddo” when hearing their son did it with their girlfriend, and the dads that say “where is he I’ll kill him” when hearing their daughter did it with their boyfriend. Maybe one day, it will no longer be so…
Macca August 22, 2013, 3:33 PM EST.
Daisy might be asking that from the wrong person. Not because Paulo is someone she can trust, but because Paulo didn’t lose his virginity in that special romantic way Daisy fantasies. He was used to get back at Tess in a public bathroom.
Hicks August 22, 2013, 3:50 PM EST.
Aww, poor Daisy, this seems to happen to her a lot… first while making out with Abbey, and now when she’s asking for advice from Paulo. She’s lettin’ out her wild side in this chapter
Anu August 22, 2013, 5:26 PM EST.
Run paulo!, run while I cover you!
eagle August 22, 2013, 6:09 PM EST.
Mostly good answer, Paulo… But too simple that actually can not answer anything.
No “evading the crucial point”, please.
HongKat August 22, 2013, 6:28 PM EST.
What’s going on in ’s mind:
CHANGE SUBJECT! CHANGE SUBJECT! CHANGE SUBJECT! MUST FIND DISTRACTION! BOOK! GRAB!
…wtf is Jane Ear?
Hawz August 22, 2013, 6:46 PM EST.
The thing is though, there is a difference in parenting a girl versus a guy. Whether you want there to be or not. A son can’t come home pregnant, but a daughter can. I think parents worry less about the boys because an accident would still feel a bit far off from the family. If a girl messes up, and the guy bails, she messes up big and has to live with herself for 9 months until a baby pops out. And the parents know they will have to help her (emotionally too) if she made this decision too early as a teen.
Its just not the same.
I_Love_Lucy August 22, 2013, 7:25 PM EST.
o3o oh Paulo, we always knew that you would be supportive -pfffft
Somebody August 22, 2013, 9:13 PM EST.
Ah yes, the long awaited Daisy pregnancy arc.
Damn, you’re finally at a convention within 20 minutes of my home, but on the day after I ship off to college on the other side of the state. Time is a dick.
Richthofen August 22, 2013, 9:48 PM EST.
Sorry Paulo but she must really want to talk to someone about this or she wouldn’t have even thought of asking. You’re not going to distract her that easy.
Patrick August 22, 2013, 10:16 PM EST.
That book report sounds interesting.
Yxela007 August 22, 2013, 10:52 PM EST.
Hopefully fluid time will kick in and you can be back the day you left… Nerd speak.

MECHEN DER KRIEGTÖRTILLEM August 23, 2013, 12:48 AM EST.
I didn’t know Jane Elbow got a sequel!
Trubeque August 23, 2013, 1:18 AM EST.
Paulo has to give Daisy the sex talk
Wei August 23, 2013, 1:38 AM EST.
Okay, next scene!
SOGx-ray August 23, 2013, 1:55 AM EST.
Kind of seems like Paulo is pulling back a bit. It looked he was going to do his usual false machismo, but then pulled back. Don’t know if this is because it’s daisy he’s talking to or if he realized he was about to do exactly what he’s been getting picked on about lately.
buchanen_neket August 23, 2013, 2:30 AM EST.
Poor Paulo. If he had any inkling into Daisy’s actual mental state he’d probably flip out.
Tacsi August 23, 2013, 3:09 AM EST.
Wait a shotgun cocking second! When and to whom did Paulo lose his virginity?
If memory serves he has only slept with two girls( Rachel and Jassica), or am I missing someone?
UltimateZ August 23, 2013, 3:38 AM EST.
What kind of sandwich is that?
Isowolf August 23, 2013, 3:42 AM EST.
@UltimateZ: It was Jessica, probably. If you wanna get technical, it could have been Tessa as well, since they STARTED to hook up in the vacation arc, but were interrupted. So, depending on how you want to think about it.
You make it sound like “slept with”, in this context, does not mean “have sex with”. It did.
daft_inquisitor August 23, 2013, 5:13 AM EST.
It WAS Jessica, because nothing ever happened with him and Tessa other than a short relationship, Jessica even made a comment about Paulo bein a virgin at the time they hooked up
Wolven August 23, 2013, 9:20 AM EST.
Paulo, for pete’s sake stop being such a wuss.
Dee August 23, 2013, 9:31 AM EST.
“”Abortion, when induced in the developed world in accordance with local law, is among the safest procedures in medicine”“
So there’s no excuse for not utilizing a professionally executed abortion as a last resort, unless there’s a freak condition that’s MUCH much less likely to happen than a condom failing.
Though it’s a invasive procedure, so it’s no replacement for preventive measures like birth-control pills or condoms.
Not to mention the morning-after pill, although that one is also sorta a last resort.
The US can’t be considered a part of the modern world with some state’s having (or least trying hard to) implement anti-abortion laws, and not offering the procedure for free.
“repeat offenders” (as a lack of a better word) who continuously have abortions because of general ignorance regarding other birth control measures should be penalized though.
Pixel August 23, 2013, 10:14 AM EST.
I’m sorry, but does anyone think that Paulo’s mouth in the third panel looks a bit… awkward?
Besides that point, it’s normal to ask these kinds of questions. I really wish I had a support group back before I lost mine, that I could’ve asked these questions about.
drgnalexandrite August 23, 2013, 11:30 AM EST.
1) For starters, don’t get your sources from wikipedia. You do realize that they are edited by everyone right?
2) If you’ve ever actually looked into the procedure itself, abortions can destroy your future chances of having children. That’s because you forcibly remove a chunk of your walls when you destroy the baby. That’s why they recommend being very careful about getting them. You have to remember that without those wall cells, a fetus can’t attach itself in the first place. Depending on the girl, this may or may not be an issue if she doesn’t want children later.
3) Women can have extreme emotional attachments to their unborn children. This is case by case. But consider the hormonal state of teens in general. Women have been known to go into those procedures and come out with depression. Whether you are religious or not, it’s still one of those morally gray areas for women.
4) Because abortions are costly for the the uninsured, it’s not an immediate guarantee that you are able to afford getting one before it’s illegal due to maximum time that has passed. You do realize there is a time limit to get one right?
5) If you are a young teenage girl, think about who is in control? If you’re 15 like Daisy and Abbey, you probably haven’t started working yet, and if you have, you probably don’t have $5,000 together to drop on the procedure. Whether its right or not, parents have the reins because they have the insurance or the money to help. At that age, if your parents are against it, I sure hope you have a rich friend or boyfriend willing to drop the cash to help you.
My point is, it’s not a black and white situation where if you get pregnant, you get an abortion. And that’s for a lot of reasons, financially, emotionally, and physically.
Thus, when I say that the whole situation of parenting is different for girls, I mean it. If you are a guy, there’s a good chance you probably haven’t ever looked into any of this like a girl would. Guys sometimes think that there is always an easy way out of an accidental pregnancy when there isn’t. It depends on the situation.
