D’awwww I love how for just a second, Abbey looks annoyed, but then kinda understands it and makes light of it instead of blowing a fuse and getting mad. Looks like the counseling is really helping Abbey out with his anger issues since he is already showing a lot of improvement.

Defensive Daisy is adorable! :D

Abbey seems really calm given how he was earlier in the chapter.

Also has anyone been keeping a tally on Daisy’s pouts this chapter, must be around 5-6 now?

She is still a child. Obviously.

Faolan September 6, 2013, 1:13 PM EST.

Comment ID #258815

This chapter is so cute. Daisy is almost as cute as Lucy when she is pouting. Im sure daisy has nothing to worry about from mike seeing her buying protection. But she is just so shy and innocent she can’t help it. Of course abbey has nothing to be upset about he wasn’t caught red handed buying the protection. They should have just stuck together so they would share the awkwardness like they said they were going to.

I love how when Lucy overreacts, pouts, shouts and is generally obnoxious people are like “Lol Lucy” “Oh Lucy you so sassy”
Then when Daisy overracts due to feeling embarrassed and experiencing new things and being excited yet scared, people make a huge deal over how childish she’s acting and ask “Whats wrong with her!?”

I like how easy Abbey is taking this now and how progressively serious Daisy has been taking this whole, uh the kids call it “secks” thing.
You know what this page reminds me of? The Taeshi Dairies!
I could easily see Abbey as Soupy and Daisy as Taeshi. There she is fuming about something with Abbey trying to make it easier, which only makes her fume even more!
There better be some hot Abbey on Daisy action near the end of this chapter. I think we’ve considered the “moralities” enough, now let’s get straight to the bush we’ve all been beating around!
You wouldn’t let me down, would you Taeshi?
…Would you?

@EvilCoffelnc

That much has been obvious for the last five pages starting when she talked to Paulo. She got upset and thought she was excluded from “adult convos,” proceeds to the store and refuses to condom shop with Abbey as a mature couple would, gets seen by old flames and is mortified, can’t properly ask Abbey if he has had sex, and then angrily pouts when he asks her.

She isn’t ready. Period. They can’t even openly talk about the issue, but she just sort of assumes they don’t need to. She’s going to get burned hard if she does it anyway in a state like that.

Faolan September 7, 2013, 12:06 AM EST.

Comment ID #258878

This should not be an angry affair. This is a delicate loving thing and you don’t go into it angry. Because that’s just not right. I feel like she really wants to, but is at the same time really embarrassed. And wants to not be a child. So many things riding on this it’s about to collapse. Good luck, friends. Am I the only one who is extremely annoyed at Daisy’s childish behaviour and sick of so much exaggerated cuteness?
Because honestly, I can’t see the so called smartness of Daisy at any part of this chapter (or any of the previous ones whatsoever). Being good at school doesn’t necessarily make you smart, and I think that Daisy’s reactions, behaviour and ways to go through things prove it. Sure, it was wise wanting to get protection, but anyone with a minimum amount of common senses knows that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not hating on Daisy or anything, I just think she has being too magnified all the time.

@Nozomu maybe she planning on pelting Paulo with them in some “that’s for babying me” pay back or something, that is of course if they have been filled with well lets hope water, I have been thinking there is going to be a bait and switch with this chapter and that would be a good one and keeping on the recent theme of punish Paulo. Most likely though the shape of the bag is just an symbolic metaphor.

Taeshi, why are you turning daisy into a *****? :c
I mean, characters like Rachel and Paulo were always sex-crazed but, Daisy? The innocent adorable one? She’s way too young. She’s the one i always figured would be against pre-martial sex like a good girl, but you’ve gone and done that in. I suppose the best outcome i can hope for at this point is that Abbey’s mom/sister found out about this when they were “planning” it in Abbey’s room, and they’ll intervene. Don’t know how likely that is.
>>Please don’t let Daisy lose her flower yet, she’s too young ;c

Cecilite September 7, 2013, 12:16 PM EST.

Comment ID #258897

@ Cecilite

I recall Paulo going over this in some character development/back story arch a while ago. He wasn’t always “sex crazed.” He turned himself into something he alternately hates and loves being because he thought it was what Lucy wanted. All argument about whether changing yourself for someone else is right (it usually isn’t, as evidenced by the fact that Paulo turned himself into something Lucy hates), he isn’t the sex-crazed ladies-man he portrays himself to be. On the inside he’s sensitive and obviously regrets what happened with Jess and Rachel, especially this last time he slept with Rache.

That said, yes, Paulo’s a teenage boy, and teenage’d boys stereotypically have trouble with their hormones, making them “sex-crazed.” That shouldn’t make it okay for Paulo to lose his virginity at 15 to some random girl who he doesn’t even like, and who didn’t like him, but make it horrible and awful and s-l-u-t-t-y for Daisy to lose it at the same age to someone she’s been dating for a while and who she believes she loves and loves her. I’m not a fan of people having sex at such young ages either (I’m still barely not a virgin at 21) but it’s up to Daisy and Abby when they make this decision, together. People are incredibly different, and what may be right for one individual isn’t right for another. Maybe Daisy will be ready to take this next step soon, and maybe Paulo wasn’t ready at all (actually, he really wasn’t, but that can’t be helped now).
Either way, it doesn’t make Daisy a ***** to sleep with her boyfriend.

@Eemia @Cecilite

In all fairness, the 1950s-1990s were socially awesome. People knew their neighbors and actually talked to each other back then.

Paulo, Rachel, and Jess do appear sex-crazed considering they aren’t really happy about their choices. It is sad that Daisy wants so badly to be like this group that’s all been sleeping together in a weird friendship orgy.

She’s also not really aware of the baggage. Jess with the dog-guy assaulting her and spreading nasty rumors, Rachel with her insecurities from Paulo, “Is that all I’m good for?” Paulo, who really wants Lucy, but is creating his own guilt circle.

Daisy jumping into all this may not make her a ****, but is does make her an idiot. As people have been saying, she ain’t ready. She’s acting like a child.

As a laughable note, I don’t think there is such a thing as “barely not a virgin.”

You either lost it or you didn’t XD

Lucy September 7, 2013, 2:02 PM EST.

Comment ID #258907

@Lucy,
Haha, the 50’s being socially awesome is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard, you really need to study history and what was really going on during that time. First, women were heavily repressed during that era, it was believed that their place was the kitchen and the bedroom. Second, that friendliness was phony that happened with the aid of mother’s little helper (if you want to know what that is look it up because I can’t say the name of it without getting an error message). Third, the men weren’t much better, that fake friendliness for them was because they were often buzzed.

Basically, the 50’s was the phoniest era of all time. Everything appeared hokey dorey on the outside, but when you look at what was really going on you would find it was a very repressed (in a lot of ways outside how women were treated) era that only looked good on the outside because most often, the women were high and the men were drunk.

buchanen_neket September 7, 2013, 3:33 PM EST.

Comment ID #258908

@ Lucy

First off: I don’t have to explain or justify my choice of words or phrases to you.

Second: Daisy IS aware of Jess’s baggage at least. She was THERE when Jess told the story. It was at Lucy’s birthday slumber party, and that’s the first any of us, readers and in-universe characters included, heard details about Jess’s history with Tess. That was also where we (and they) heard that Jess was just using Paulo to get back at Tess, and Daisy was present when Lucy told Jess off about how much she hurt Paulo. That was also when it came out that Rachel is “just a huge ****.”

Rachel is the only one in this entire story who is completely casual about sex. She finds it fun and sees nothing wrong with engaging in safe, consensual sex with more than one person and with no emotional strings attached. Jess’s first time was with Paulo, and since then we haven’t seen her being “sex-crazed” at all. Paulo has ONLY slept with Jess and Rachel, the first few times because they were using him to get back at Tess, and because he himself was dealing with some stress and issues. Not “sex-crazed.” The fact that they’re not happy about their choices doesn’t make them “sex-crazed.” In fact, it actually makes them seem even LESS “sex-crazed.” If they were “sex-crazed” neither one of them would have regrets about how, when, and with who they lost their virginity, they would just be happy to have had sex.

@Eemia

You don’t have to explain. I just found it funny that you were sharing your personal life on the internet and you preferred that way of saying you weren’t a virgin. Sort of goes against your sex-positive ideas if you yourself can’t come to terms with the whole virgin/non-virgin thing.

You can’t deny the weird orgy going on with Paulo, Jess, and Rachel. Maybe it’s not crazed, but it’s weird when you sleep around in your friend circle.

See, note I used a time frame, and not just a certain date.

@lucy,

Actually I pointed out the flaws in the other eras in my previous message. It however popped an error message because of me saying the actual name of “mother’s little helper”. I’ll summarize, 60’s and 70’s weren’t better than the 50’s because there was a revolution between generations. You had the hippies vs the old generation. While the 60’s was the foothold of the women’s right movement (a good thing), there was a huge rebellion against the old ways of thinking. So not much social interaction and a lot of separation between the suburbs and the communes. The 80’s were probably the closest to a balance between everybody being together, but there were still issues of the former hippies and the yuppies. The 90’s was an inverse in two directions, one was the formation of the extremist feminist movement. That’s not to say i’m against feminism or women’s empowerment, it’s just that in any group there are extremist. These are the women who thought murdering and mutilating men was okay in the name of women’s rights. So again we had another segregation with a lot of people generalizing feminists by the actions of the extremist. So there was a dividing line between genders. Of course there was the advent of net technology as well during this time degrading personal social interaction as a whole.

Summarized, none of those periods were as you said, there’s always been some form of segregation, socially degrading behaviors, or just outright separation. The reason these all looked like everybody was being sociable and nice is because in some shape or form (drugs, media, nostalgia glasses, etc) we were duped into believing that history fit some societal norm. When it couldn’t be further from the truth.

When did Daisy become a dwarf

I’m just sayin’

Also those rubber legs in the second panel

PS everything was **** up until now because the only people with any power in the usa were white straight men. Because getting persecuted because you are a black person, or a brown person, or a yellow person, or a red person, or a gay person, or a trans person, or even just an uppity woman…yeah, great. I’d love going back to that eh. If casting all that **** off means neighbors don’t talk to each other anymore, GOOD. I didn’t want to talk to them anyway.

Ventus asked above, but I’ll ask again because I don’t think Taeshi has answered yet, but what was that comments context under the comic regarding privilege? I’m sure I’m showing my ignorance by asking, but I’ll never learn if I don’t ask…

As for Daisy and her current reactions…I don’t know, it seems, if not reasonable, at least understandable to me. While first making moves on Abbey she was quite confident, she was certainly more assertive and in control of the situation than he was. Not that I see Abbey in a poor light because of that, having someone come onto you that clearly for the first time can sometimes be quite intimidating if you’re not expecting it. Now, however, Daisy is outside a private place, having already been embarrassed by parental interference, put on the back foot by Paulo’s reactions, and in a very public place was recognized and seen to be buying something for which there is a very clear and defined purpose. She’s feeling embarrassed and judged, even by her own potential sexual partner, and out of her depth as this is a big emotional step for most, and the only comfort she would be able to draw from the situation (Abbey) is currently poking fun at her. I figure, if things were let alone for a bit and the pair of them end up with a nice, safe and private place and time to be together, Daisy would be back to being quite comfortable and relaxed about it all, and this time Abbey wouldn’t be blindsided by her intentions. I personally remember that decision to first step into the sexual world being quite the decision, emotionally speaking.

Just my thoughts, anyway. I’ll leave the morality and ethics of the pair of them actually doing the deed in the first place to the more excitable crowd, I prefer amateur psychological analysis. : P

@Zephyr,

come on, anyone 15 and above should know this one. There are a few things a guy isn’t “allowed” to ask a girl. Their age, status of their virginity, etc. I put allowed in parenthesis because I think that is bull. Anything a girl can ask a guy is fair game in reverse. However that’s just how it is, there’s certain things a female can ask a guy but a guy can’t ask the same thing.

I guess I never encountered that kind of cultural emphasis on who can or cannot say what and when. I have no idea how I managed that, given how prevalent the posts are making it sound, but that’s just the way it’s turned out : /. I think I simply may have ended up with a particularly open and free-spirited set of friends, and my mother certainly doesn’t give a flying f*** about social conventions that impede her doing what she wants to, and maybe that simply had a big impression on me. Regardless, thanks for explaining what must have been bleedingly obvious to anyone else. : P. I certainly agree with your “bull” comment, however, I believe quite firmly that if there is to be a social imperative regarding a given subject it should be a two way street. I certainly would not feel upset or uncomfortable asking or being asked any question on any subject. Of course, it is within the rights of the person asked the question to simply not give an answer for whatever reason they see fit, but I see no reason to get upset or offended over it, its pretty trivial stuff in the grand scheme of things.

Best guess, it’ll be last page and implied. Like them closing the door or a light going out in the room they enter. Something like that.

That or there’ll be an awkward with one of their parents on the next page.

lol simple fact for us guys. we get asked a question about sex its perfectly fine. if we ask a woman about their sex life we get yelled at and have to apologies. This really is why america needs to be changed so that way men and women are equal on everything, pay, the amount of work, the number of days of, thats right im saying we men need to be able to take off for maternity leave and what not.

@1wolfblade,

Not just America, the world. As a for consideration, consider that Taeshi is an aussie, I highly doubt that she’s THAT familiar with American culture after only being here a month or so. That means this is something she picked up while she was in Australia. Further other countries bow to European standard of conduct. So if anything it all falls back to, once again, Europe being the ******** whose influence screwed things.

Its really subtle, but in the 8th panel there is a hint, the reason why daisy isn’t safe with abbey. He might hate his father for the person he was, but with his rage issues I can see him following in his father’s footsteps without even knowing it.

Meh September 8, 2013, 7:41 AM EST.

Comment ID #258933

@Meh: Or you know, he is just a tad annoyed that when he asked her the same question he was just asked that she pretty much yelled in his face.

Plus, I doubt he will follow in the footsteps of his father completely when he has actually been getting help for his anger issues. If this was earlier in the comic when he wasn’t, I’d agree with you. But he is getting help for his anger and the only issue that is likely to come up is his growing possessiveness. I doubt he will hurt Daisy because of his possessiveness because he has also has a strong desire to protect females, but he might start getting annoyed at her for hanging around with people he dislikes e.g. Paulo or asking who she is going to hang out with but not out of cruelty. It’d mainly be out of concern, which is why he wouldn’t notice he is replicating part of his father’s behaviour; it would only be part of how his father acted, not all of it.
