David wants in on the learning party
Paulo’s sideways face
ComicGuy October 1, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
You’re out of luck there Paulo.
Keyblade Dragon October 1, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
Go David! Go learning!
Hawz October 1, 2013, 1:01 PM EST.
Aww, left alone by himself. I bet he doesn’t have the money for a ticket, so he’ll have to go be all Paulo by himself. Peh, who needs a fancy exhibit?
Zone October 1, 2013, 1:02 PM EST.
Karma at his finest.
DrackeStalenTorgen October 1, 2013, 1:03 PM EST.
*Halo announcer* Betrayed….
Blaze October 1, 2013, 1:03 PM EST.
Funny how David doesn’t break eye contact with Paulo when handing over his ticket.
Chrisd765 October 1, 2013, 1:08 PM EST.
I really am liking this chapter.
Be able to see each character’s strenghts and weakness is something that I’m really enjoying. I used to like Paulo a lot, but this chapter and some of his actions after Lucy left make me feel disappointed at him. Is not that Jazz was right about him, is something else… But I can’t put it in words. Is not that I hate him, I still feel that he can take a turn for the best and be an awesome guy.
I’m amazed at David, I hope we can see how he behaves there. Probably Sue will be wordless as how I am!
As always, awesome work & comic Taeshi!
Teh Lvy! October 1, 2013, 1:09 PM EST.
Mr-Hero-Bio October 1, 2013, 1:19 PM EST.
Come to think of it, Paulo seems to be suffering in these new chapters a lot more then he did in the past.
DeathofInk October 1, 2013, 1:21 PM EST.
Get that learnin on, David.
Also, I’m with Mr-Hero-Bio on this one:
Chocothunda October 1, 2013, 1:22 PM EST.
Yes! Yes yes yes yes!! I love you so much Taeshi
twoplusfiveequallsseven October 1, 2013, 1:22 PM EST.
See, the point on this moment is, it doesn’t matter what you’re doing as long as you’re having fun with the friends you have. Paulo is getting to be more and more of an outcast to the group. Sooner or later he may end up being the next person leaving the group.
Dudeler October 1, 2013, 1:27 PM EST.
Maybe he will actually do his work now.
Hawz October 1, 2013, 1:30 PM EST.
David is like the biggest dickwad to ever walk the earth. Doesn’t even have loyalty and always has that blank trollface on.
Anyway I can see that this is Paulo acting out because he’s sad and mad and frustrated at other events. Completely understandable. Who hasn’t seen people get annoying and snappish if they’ve been under stress for more than a week? Now even David’s basically kicked him in the face. Way to go, David.
Macca October 1, 2013, 1:39 PM EST.
hey! no need to hit him on the head, a-hole!
SOGx-ray October 1, 2013, 1:44 PM EST.
Only idiots like you, Paulo, believe that everything that’s worth learning about is already fed to you through school 1-12.
Gate-senpai October 1, 2013, 1:46 PM EST.
I like Paulo. It’s like he has the intelligence, but he dosen’t like to use it and instead gets snarky.
Kodak October 1, 2013, 1:47 PM EST.
Et tu, David? Traitor!!
Porque tu tienes que hacer esto? Mi amigo. :\
Well, I got that out of my system. Looks like Paulo is going to be feeling left out in this chapter without some extra cash… either somebody comes along and buys his ticket or he get left out because of his lack of cash. In turn, this could cause him to get himself a job so he can earn some extra cash. Friends, they are there to give you that little push to make better decisions in life… one way or another.
supertails19 October 1, 2013, 1:48 PM EST.
@Macca: I think the rest of the group knew about the exhibit, but not Paulo. Perhaps Paulo was too distracted by Rach, and hasn’t really been with the group lately. David likely went to be with the group, maybe he thought Paulo would know about it. I don’t like how this suggests that the whole group is going to break up or change drastically. Hopefully it’s just a theory.
Hawz October 1, 2013, 1:50 PM EST.
Serves you right, Paylo. Even David seems to be smarter than you~
ResidentEddy October 1, 2013, 1:52 PM EST.
@Kodak: Your description of Paulo is my definition of idiot: Someone who is smart, but does stupid ****.
Hawz October 1, 2013, 1:54 PM EST.
eagle October 1, 2013, 1:58 PM EST.
I don’t know why, but David looks really cute lately. Must be his big ol’ puppy dog eyes.
charyoshi October 1, 2013, 1:58 PM EST.
Up to this point, the chapter was basically Paulo and David Immaturity Hour. However, now I feel a pang of sympathy for Paulo. He’s poor and has no money for a ticket. Because of his socioeconomic status, he’s effectively barred from accessing the same learning opportunities as his better-off classmates. Thus he is left out of the group altogether, with not even David around to talk to, which to him would be worse than enduring some boring art exhibition.
For Paulo, this realization could actually turn into a positive. It may force him to grow up, become more responsible, and get a job so that he can earn money and then be able to participate in these sorts of opportunities. His 16th birthday is upcoming in April, which would allow him to get hired by many retail outlets. Hence that push on the head he received in the sixth panel might just turn out to be the “critical hit” he needs to set himself on another, more positive path.
wacko October 1, 2013, 2:04 PM EST.
Paulo just swallow your pride and just pay for the ticket…he knows it’ll be boring being in a museum by himself.
wolven_DM October 1, 2013, 2:10 PM EST.
That awkward moment when David has more sense than Paulo.
Hunnikitty October 1, 2013, 2:16 PM EST.
I’m getting the feeling that Sue doesn’t know David has a ticket and is going to have a heart attack when he shows up inside the exhibit.
Misanthrope October 1, 2013, 2:35 PM EST.
Haha poor guy!
R.Gearswork October 1, 2013, 2:45 PM EST.
Learning is for suckers! Who needs to learn anything! Maturity? BAH.
Though I feel some are right that Paulo may not be able to afford the tickets, thus his immature bravado.
That are he’s just being a brat.
Ellie October 1, 2013, 3:15 PM EST.
I like how the ticket dude puts his hand in Paulos face. I woulda broke his arm lol
Random dude October 1, 2013, 3:25 PM EST.
paulo is NOT AMUSED, is he? *paulo please say “I am not amused” pretty pretty please*
Carindel Girl October 1, 2013, 3:27 PM EST.
This would be where Lucy wouldve agreed with Paulo if she were here. ;_____;
MeowBirdy October 1, 2013, 3:59 PM EST.
I don’t know about learning, but I think David just wants to be in the band wagon with everyone else (or mere curiosity, whichever. Sue’s gonna have a heart attack though )
Subaru October 1, 2013, 4:50 PM EST.
Huh, I second the opinion of others that Paulo is starting to get a bit disliked or even ostracized by the group. The staff at this museum sucks, though.
MachBiker October 1, 2013, 5:13 PM EST.
Yeah, you’re real smart, assuming the stuff they’re making you pay for isn’t at all interesting in the slightest.
Now, are we going to skip to when everyone leaves, or is Paulo gonna see something very, VERY interesting? Because, let’s face it. Having Paulo just wait around would be a waste, and there probably isn’t any reason to follow the rest of the group right now. (Plus, it would be against the law…none of us bought OUR tickets…) And besides, right now, it just feels like something big and important is going to happen.
Oceanus92 October 1, 2013, 5:34 PM EST.
Quick! Somebody put Paulo into the Burn Ward!
OldMan October 1, 2013, 5:44 PM EST.
Bwahaha, Paulo just can’t catch a break. First the others now his buddy is running off. But how much you want to bet that now he’s going to try and sneak in.
buchanen_neket October 1, 2013, 6:07 PM EST.
I love how so many people are over here calling Paulo stupid for not wanting to go to an exhibit or be in a museum period and picking fun at how he doesn’t have a ticket and stating how he should pay for one and join the others. I have a couple of things to say on that.
1. Not everyone is into going to museums. Come on guys that’s pretty basic. And not everyone likes to learn about the same things as others. For example I personally find math to be dumb, but I’m fascinated by Psychology, Astrology, and Science. I also love~ reading. c: I try to avoid math as much as possible and whenever a friend of mine mentions their taking Calculus, for example, my reaction is variations of “Ewww Math. Booo!” or “Dude, that sucks.” and they may have the same reaction to me having to read a 300 page book about Psychology. We both like to learn different things.
2. The ‘Just go buy a ticket Paulo!’ like comments are ridiculous. I don’t know how much museum tickets are in the BCB universe, but where I live the ticket prices for certain exhibits in the three museums in town range from $20 - $40. It’s already been established that Paulo’s socioeconomic situation isn’t the same as most of the other characters. So, yeah, no. Paulo’s not going to ‘just go buy a ticket’.
I just really had to get this off my chest, seeing as how I can’t rant to any of my friends who wouldn’t get it seeing as how none of them read BCB. I’m still trying to get them to though. >.> Hehe
Kimmi October 1, 2013, 6:23 PM EST.
@Kimmi Whilst Paulo might not like being in museums, previous pages show that they’re there on a school assignment. Sorry kid, but thems the breaks.
Yewsea October 1, 2013, 6:31 PM EST.
@MeowBirdy I was thinking the same thing! Lucy was phased out because of Mike, and Paulo is being forced-phased out because of everyone else in the main group. I can only imagine a dual chapter of Paulo and Lucy being alone, but who knows. Plus Augustus is still around the corner somewhere since his appearance in the last chapter and the one group… oh god the possibilities! QAQ
I’m just thinking of that “big” chapter. That chapter of fate!
… I’ll shut up now. ;w;
Oh! The series is close to 100 chapters btw.
Pyro October 1, 2013, 6:47 PM EST.
@wacko Thank you, someone at least understands an underlining issue in this whole situation. Although I’m willing to bet there’s a bigger ‘critical hit’ coming up on Paulo to change his direction.
BetaMonkey October 1, 2013, 6:54 PM EST.
you know the more story the goes i kinda hate paulo now more then ever
IDK October 1, 2013, 7:17 PM EST.
OMG lol DAVE xD
TarriPup October 1, 2013, 7:25 PM EST.
It’s funny how Paulo finds this boring. He should use his:
*Spongebob pops out of nowhere*
With IMAGINATION , you can do anything you want!
Hawz October 1, 2013, 7:40 PM EST.
Paulo got hit so hard his mouth is almost falling off
Bob Bobington October 1, 2013, 7:50 PM EST.
He just need to get closer to Rachel, if you know what I mean.
Fluffy October 1, 2013, 8:12 PM EST.
Usher guy uses slap attack on Paulo
It was super effective
Honor October 1, 2013, 8:42 PM EST.
David’s got that «NOPE!» look in the third panel
Sambo October 1, 2013, 8:46 PM EST.
Why do I think that Paulo will see lucy there while everyone else is learning
Chicken October 1, 2013, 9:33 PM EST.
Maybe it’s people like David that have the desire to learn, but their brains are too radical in the eyes of the current generation to do what they’re meant for. Whatever it is, it would be great, the, “great power comes with great responsibility,” type of great. I’m not saying David’s a genius, I’m saying he’s destined for it.
Hawz October 1, 2013, 9:38 PM EST.
Eh… just a bit of a criticism, but I really dislike how Paulo keeps making pufferfish faces. It was cute when Daisy did it and kept fairly in character, but when the boys start doing it I feel it loses its validity. You wouldn’t catch a teenage boy making a face like that.
Lumi October 1, 2013, 9:55 PM EST.
@Lumi: Paulo’s not pufferfishing, his mouth and nose turned into ‘(
He looks more like a child pouting.
Hawz October 1, 2013, 10:03 PM EST.
I mean this chapter is no biggie. It’s just a museum I don’t think there’s that much to say guys.
PyrotheEmber October 1, 2013, 10:27 PM EST.
i think the reason why i dont particularly like paulo in this chapter is because he is basically making fun of mike and the group cause they like learning . if you dont like learning new things. thats up to you. but dont make fun of people just cause they dont share the same views as you. and thats what annoyed me about some of the people here commenting about his behavoir and trying to make it seem like its okay to belittle someone just cause they want to learn. and now when he realizes that he is being left out. he is being a brat about it and most likely will try to sneak in. just to see what was the big deal about the exhibition. and will lead to more trouble. getting everyone kick out. making him get more chastise and being left even more alone. making him go to rachel for support and getting more dependent on her.
SeaRiver October 1, 2013, 10:58 PM EST.
Paulo may have a realization soon. Here, my uneducated guess:
: I am not amused… (HOURS LATER) …so alone, alone forever.
(@eagle: FOREVER ALONE)
: *raging style* I’VE BEEN HERE THE WHOLE TIME! *breaks ring in rage*
Morgan Freeman: WELCOME TO THE SPECIAL STAGE
: I have so many questions to ask!
Morgan Freeman: NONE OF WHICH SHALL BE ANSWERED
8-D: *Puppy dog eyes and whimpers*
: *wakes* What the?
Morgan Freeman: IT WAS ALL A DREAM
Hawz October 1, 2013, 11:01 PM EST.
Looks like you have no choice but to learn.
Trubeque October 1, 2013, 11:05 PM EST.
Ha ha ha! He’s poor! He can’t buy stuff!
Sanitarium October 1, 2013, 11:55 PM EST.
No ticket, no service.
HongKat October 2, 2013, 12:09 AM EST.
And that is why you shouldn’t mock others like that, never know when you may be the odd one out and end up like “Damn…wonder what it is like in there…”
JURAI October 2, 2013, 12:37 AM EST.
lol, smug David is smug.
He doesn’t even need to say anything. The way he stares at Paulo and hands over those tickets says it all.
Man, if even David won’t get his back, Paulo is kinda getting himself singled out here and in a museum of all places.
I like how that adult just whaps Paulo right on the head too and asks for a ticket, while still glaring at him with his laser beam eyes.
Looks like Paulo is starting to get irritated with his head-slapping, eyeball glaring shenanigans also.
Huh, well I wonder what Paulo is going to do now? Buy a ticket or sneak in? Maybe play hooky?
Oh and edit right here? Looking through the comments, it looks like an explosion of resentment against Paulo has sparked since the last page, apparently for the “your dumb to pay to learn” comment? I wonder why…seemed harmless enough to me…
Blank On Purpose October 2, 2013, 2:29 AM EST.
Gabba October 2, 2013, 3:13 AM EST.
Well, David does look interested in the museum so iam not supriced that he has also a ticket but that he shows no sympathy like saying atleast “sorry pal” is kinda dissapointing. I also don’t like how he gets hit by that guy, he could had just say something to get Paulos attention.
Is it just me or everybody just keeps pushing Paulo away? Whats up with that?! Hes not That bad
Now we need Augustus show up to chear him up
EvilKitty3 October 2, 2013, 3:16 AM EST.
Did an adult museum employee just hit Paulo? Assault! Child abuse! He should be fired, and then sued!
Lord Lemmy October 2, 2013, 3:27 AM EST.
That hit looks so harsh, must be a child abuser.
what October 2, 2013, 5:27 AM EST.
I think David was just annoyed at Paulo, after listening to him essentially insult David without realizing it. Paolo can be a real ******* sometimes, he needs to learn to keep that in check. I like him a lot more when he mellows out.
daft_inquisitor October 2, 2013, 5:50 AM EST.
Also, pushing is not hitting.
daft_inquisitor October 2, 2013, 5:52 AM EST.
This storyline reminds me it’s been a long time since I’ve been to a museum. :-/
Martina October 2, 2013, 7:11 AM EST.
Hm. Well, what seemed like a Sue-development chapter so far, is kind of looking more like the Paulo-development chapter now. On the other hand, why no have both? In fact, i’m rather curious to see everyone’s attitude now that Lucy’s dissappearance (or, whatever has happened to her) is a little behind them.
I think that people freaking over how stupid Paulo is for “not appreciating art and knowledge” are kind of overdoing it. I mean, it was kind of obvious from the beggining of the comic that Paulo was never really all that interested in schoolwork or learning, and there wasn’t any chapter that showed him get over that. If you didn’t find that annoying before, why now? (Besides, he’s called Mike a nerd lots of times before, what’s so different with this one?)
People concerned about his “poor economical status” are kind of overreacting too. Sure, he may not be really wealthy, but we haven’t seen any signs of the opposite either. (if i’m wrong please correct me) And even if he is facing financial difficulties i’m pretty sure most exhibitions you have to pay to get in are not that expensive, even for a kid with economical trouble, unless they are about someone very famous.
I think it’s more likely that he’s just not interested and wants to stick to his “rule of cool”.
As for David, well, i think he just wants to be with his friends and he’s really curious about why everyone’s so interested. I’m pretty sure he’s not going to mature all of a sudden, or that he developed an interest in art within seconds.
(long comment is long ^^”)
Clementine October 2, 2013, 8:18 AM EST.
@daft_inquisitor: Pushing is still physical violence, and even Paulo though basically mocked his job to an extent and doesn’t have a ticket, that doesn’t mean that the worker gets a free pass to push him. He works in a museum, so of course there are going to be people who find it boring, especially teens on a school trip.
@Macca: I agree with you. David is acting like a jerk here. I’d assume he does know that Paulo is poor and that he knows Paulo would be left alone if he went because he doesn’t like learning much, but he chose the exhibit over his best friend anyway.
This isn’t the first time he has shown terrible behaviour as a friend either, he was the one that pressured him into having sex with Rachel and Jessica, but when things started to go wrong after that, David wasn’t there to help him out, Jasmine had to pull him out of the mess before it could all blow up in his face.
I don’t remember when it happened but I’m pretty sure David also barked at him at some point when he was doing something he didn’t like, despite knowing of his phobia, and even though Paulo was quite upset, he was just his normal cheerful self. It’s not commonly accepted as good behaviour to play with your friend’s trauma.
And when he couldn’t choose between Daisy and Tessa, David basically forced him to choose who would live and die in a hypothetical situation and it just screwed with his head MORE because his feelings for Daisy were different from the ones he felt for Tess.
Moogle October 2, 2013, 8:22 AM EST.
HOU! I used to be sumo, youuuuu no get past!
Huh? October 2, 2013, 9:03 AM EST.
Poor Paulo. Dat sideways face.
Angel October 2, 2013, 10:44 PM EST.
I really don´t know how it should help him “growing up”, because these “opportunities” as you call it are mostly just like throwing money out of the window, especially when it´s clearly stated that he doesn´t like it. And if pretending like you like something just because others put pressure on you to like it just to make them not thinking less of you when you in reality got no interest in the topic is clearly NOT growing up and being responsible, but lying to yourself. And that is not a positive path at all!
Tails November 30, 2013, 6:15 PM EST.
Im all ready starting to miss lucy what happend to her anyways?
