Scenic Route — Page 16

Author commentary

Veronica: This page made me feel a bit misty-eyed in a way because they are talking about the future and I know BCB is a finite project, it kinda made me realise they do technically have only a year in their time before the comic ends

good thing telling the story will take much longer lol

A preview of the upcoming BCB page.

Does anyone notice that the chapter’s title actually makes a bit of sense now?

“Scenic Route”.
Paulo (and Daisy) are both looking into the future, wondering what they’ll be doing. They’re taking everything they see and know along a very long, and deep metaphorical ride.

Anyone else seeing this? Or am I just crazy?

I’m not quite sure what to feel about this… I’m going to miss Bittersweet a heck of a lot when it’s over. Of course I’m sure Taeshi is still going to be around and making comics, but there’s so much I’ve already related to in these characters that I’m kinda scared as to whether she’d be able to build stuff up like that again… Even little things like Lucy being deaf in one ear are important to me, or the Unmerry Melodies chapter… (the only BCB page I’ve bookmarked, and I’m a freaking BCI member!) I still miss Vol 1 a good bit, but I know she never wants to look back that way…
If there were a comic like Bittersweet’s Vol 1, but more permanent, I’d read it, and while I’m still happily reading Bittersweet today, I don’t think I would have gotten into it so easily without the connection established by me ignoring all the warnings and reading those first few chapters.

It’s up to Paulo whether he does go to college one day or not. But I see nothing wrong with him continuing to work after graduating High School. Like he said he might have a better job by then especially if he continues to work and is doing a good job. He was never truly interested in school work and I can see him being happy working, earning his own money and getting more experience. Plus college is expensive and even with the help of student loans that will just mean he’ll have dept to deal with later on. Since his family doesn’t have much money to begin with that isn’t going to help much.

Plus a college degree isn’t a guarantee for a good job. There are people that do have college degrees but either haven’t been able to find a job yet or are working in retail right now and not in jobs they probably went to college for so they have money coming in and so they can have work experience. Because let’s be honest a lot of places don’t hire if you don’t have experience but you can’t get experience unless you have a job. It’s a vicious cycle. Sure a college degree can be a great help but it isn’t everything.

I just hope that Daisy doesn’t try and push Paulo into going to college. If she plans on going then that’s great for her especially since she wishes to be a Doctor one day and you do have to go to college or medical school for that. But Paulo may not know what he wants to do and if he’s comfortable working after High School then that’s good. As others have said you can still do well for yourself without a college degree.
