omg same here! i have to write a 6 page dialogue between two people arguing over a daily topic. I originally had a partner, and we were working on it for a little over a week, but because i stayed home on Thursday my teacher took my partner away! You have NO IDEA. Seriously, the infant sacrifice made my skin crawl significantly less than other things that happened. Charles Stross is a God of horror writing. So is Dan Simmons, for that matter. They’re making a movie out of Simmons’ magnum opus “Hyperion,” and if it’s even marginally close to the book it will make the Saw series look like a Disney musical number.

I have to write a story that basically takes the story of Odysseus and puts it into the present day or near future. Stupid English. So I’ve decided to set it in a post-apocalyptic metropolis. See what they think of that, huh.

I don’t know. I think it’d be more fun to try to fit it into current standards. Like, say, a soldier returning from Afghanistan getting lost in America as he tries to return to his wife.

HNNNNG. Man, can you imagine how fucking awesome that would be? He comes back to the suitors in his small town, possibly in the South. Instead of stringing a bow, it could be assembling and firing a gun, which he then uses to kill the suitors and the guilty district attorney doesn’t have the guts to proceed with a case against him.
