Carcharocles is a giant shark that lived many millions of years ago, and had a mouth span of about seven feet in the largest cases seen.

Hitmonlee, Nidoran, Frank, Gorabiss lots of odd names there so it could very well be a pokemon name

The CH is pronounced like a K. Both car and char are variations of the same root and refer to the edge of the tooth (rough).
If I’m not mistaken, “cles” is a reference to the size of the adult teeth, which can be anywhere from 3 to 7 inches depending on individual and species. Not sure on the actual name.
Charizard = Char + Lizard.

Eh, but Carcharocles is not conceivably a portmanteau or a corruption. Charizard is a combination of “char” and “lizard”, and Hitmonlee is, I think, a shortening for “The monster that kicks like Bruce Lee”. Carcharocles, on the other hand, is an actual Greek or Latin word. Or could be, at the very least.

Oh dear, Klaus.

I had just gotten my learner’s permit. My mom wanted to see where I was in driving. So she put me at the top of a hill near our apartment complex. She told me to drive. I put it in drive, stepped on the gas, and stared unblinking at the speedometer. I heard her shout CAR—CAR! And she grabbed the steering wheel. I looked up in time to see the guy in the opposing car fill his pants.
She shouted “Brakes!” and I panicked and hit the gas. We hit the curb, went airborne, and in mid-air I corrected and hit the brakes. It hit the ground and immediately stopped. My mom told me, “put it in park and get the fuck out of my car.” I did. We took a look—you could’ve put a dime between the front of the car and a tree and it would have held in place.
Needless to say I never got my driver’s license.

My first driving experience I plowed a 1996 Corvette into a Tahoe for the same reasons.
