Psychological Flaws?

Comment ID #103909

Why does Lucy have such an enormous abandonment issue? She’s only 14 or so. Does it have something to do with her parents? I’ve never seen her father, so is it possible she clings to all these males because they replace the lost father figure?

Did you actually read the comic at all? She has abandonment issues because she had absolutely no friends when she was young because she was a tom boy, which meant that the girls didn’t like her, and she couldn’t play with the boys because they thought girls were gross.

Eventually she met Mike who played with her, but she lost him after pre-school. Then when she met him again, things went well until he met Sandy, and he left her again, once more leaving her all alone.

When Sandy had to move away, he came back to her, but by then she had become Jaded. Still, he was her only friend, and so she clung to him. She clung to him, and refused to accept that one day he might not be there one day.

She made other friends sure. But her co-dependancy issues already ran deep by that point. She put all her eggs in one basket so to speak.

And that is why she has the crazy.

Also consider the fact she developed a lot faster than the other girls, and when she went to middle school she was suddenly given a shitton of attention by year 8 males while she was in year 6. This freaked her the fuck out. And fully aided her mistrust in others, she assumes they only have one stupid thing in mind now.

I mean there’s other little bits here and there, but you’re correct about her father figure not being around much. He’s always going on long trips. Honestly the mother should make up for it because she’s a stay-home mom but Lucy is always curling up in her room being an idiot teenager even though the mother tries to involve herself in Lucy’s life.

@Taeshi: Thanks! I guess I didn’t think it through quite all the way. I wish people hadn’t been such horrible lust-bags(my word now) to her. I guess if I went through the same trauma, then I probably wouldn’t be as open as she is now.

@Maverik: I did read the comic, but it was somewhere around 3 AM when I wrote this, so I wasn’t able to think as well. But if I had been a person who hadn’t read it, just skimmed, then thanks for the non-me straight.

@J. Vincero: Oh Vincero, why?

Now that I remember it better, I understand her problems now. I’m glad that she can be a little happier with these people now, even if she’s a drawing with text.

Thank you both for helping me better understand her difficulties.

What’s Verorage?

Vero is an abbreviation of Taeshi’s name. The rage should be self-explanatory.

Lucy is not actually bipolar. She has many poles, ranging from defensive angst to manic depressive angst to berserker rage angst.

@Vincero Thanks for the clarification.

There does seem to be a lot of angst in the comic. Which I like, for one. My life at High School actually is angsty. This isn’t too far off the map. There are people like Paulo, Mike, and Lucy that I know personally. Heck, the whole sex-before-graduation thing has happened twice now.
