The games we are referring to are the Half Life games, in which the protagonist, Gordon Freeman is….well lets say, hounded, by the antagonist, the G-Man, whose character and name is based on a colloquial term for a United States agent ” G-man.

And now we’s back on how da’ go’ment come took ma bay-beh!

Is voting not mandatory in the UK?

Pronkat May 5, 2010, 4:20 PM EST.

Nope if you don’t want to you don’t have to.

nope
you don’t have to vote
but you should.

i think its mandatory in Australia

Iain Westy May 5, 2010, 4:27 PM EST.

Comment ID #16327

Yes, it is mandatory here.

British people, look at the polls for your electorate and vote Lib Dem or Labour tomorrow, depending on who is more likely to win! Your system isn’t preferential, so a vote for the Lib Dems may be a vote Labour desperately needs to beat the Tory candidate, so get going!

SuitCase May 5, 2010, 4:59 PM EST.

Comment ID #16328

I DISAGREE! the best way to vote in the UK is to vote for the local candiate that you honestly think will do the best job for your area. regardless of their party. the first past the post system raelly sucks monkey nuts!

Iain Westy May 5, 2010, 5:02 PM EST.

I say just let the two opposing partys play rock, paper, scissors against eachover.
Just like our forefathers used to.

People who vote their conscience are retarded. You live in the real world, when your vote for a marginal candidate will be wasted then don’t waste your vote. Lobby whoever wins to change to a preferential system.

I don’t know how it works in jolly ol’ england, but in America, your vote doesn’t actually count (in the presidential election, anyhow), so if you guys have an electoral college or some analog across the pond, just use whatever criteria they want to determine their vote.

If you give it to the government, they will break it in a day, if they don’t, they will lose it in two days, if they avoid that, it will mysteriously disappear through a process known as “government accounting,” NO EXCEPTIONS

in the uk each area votes for a candiate that belongs to a party. the party who gets the most areas gets into power. this means that Mr BOB for the BOB party could get more votes then any other party, but if the MArgret party only get half his votes but more areas, then they get into power.

this means that only the parties who can afort to put a person in EVERY area have a chance to govern on their own terms.

this is why the system here is flaud

Iain Westy May 5, 2010, 5:41 PM EST.

Country of 5 people in 3 districts.
District 1 has 3 people, and voted for Bob.
District 2 has 1 person, who voted for Richard.
District 3 has 1 person, who also voted for Richard.

So you’re saying Richard wins the election, then?

Quacksalver May 5, 2010, 6:02 PM EST.

Comment ID #16355

…I suppose it matters if the districts are divided by a population count, or geographically.

Quacksalver May 5, 2010, 6:04 PM EST.

Comment ID #16358

That sounds Alot like our winner take all electoral system, altough more populated “areas” (states) mean more

Ace May 5, 2010, 6:17 PM EST.

yes in that case Richard’s party would win becase more regons voted in his favor. not more people.

There’s the international page :3.
And from what I’ve heard of the English election, LibDem sounds best.

On the other hand, I have no problem voting for people on the sidelines. It Does make a difference. If everyone think like SuitCase then nothing will every change :P. The Pirate Party certainly wouldn’t have a representative in EU right now if people thought that way :). (Considering it didn’t exist 6 years ago even xD)

Election Day today… It seems that it’s going to be a Lib Dem and Tory clash for the main seat. Predictions say Labour might have some support in Scotland while fortunately the BNP’s progress seems halted and the Greens may actually gain some seats in Westminster. There hasn’t been any predictions for the Scottish National Party. At around 3:30 am tomorrow the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland will be decided…

if no ONE party get more that 51% of the seats then they have to gang together with another party and we have a Co-operative govorment. 2 parties working together. thats what the lib dems want because it is imposible for them to get enough seats. they don’t have enough candidates.

on a different subject.
dose anyone outside the middle east care about Iran developing nuclear weapons ?
or are we the only ones ?

oddguy May 6, 2010, 5:15 PM EST.

Comment ID #16756

ILB: No it doesn’t. While one of The Pirate Bays founding members vote for them, they are connected in no other way.
The trial of TPB in 2006 is what caused the Pirate Party to be founded though. There is now a Pirate Party in 20 or so countries, I even think one is part of the British election today. Doubt they’ll get many votes though, but you never know :). Germany has one, and they got quite a lot of votes last election.

I think that the UK should sell the TRIDANT nucular sub program to Iran. that would help get us out of debt and NOBODY is going to use nucular wepons. there are automated responce systems left over from the 80’s that still work.

Iain Westy May 6, 2010, 5:19 PM EST.

That’s the most radical and dangerous idea I’ve heard in a forum to date. It’s so crazy I have a slight sense I could maybe in a slight chance work…

Pronkat May 6, 2010, 5:33 PM EST.

Comment ID #16767

the UK dosn’t need its nucular sub program. it cost too much and SCOTLAND certany dosn’t need a large pile of nukes sitting in the river Clyde. Iran has very restricted sea access anyway so if they had a nukular sub it be easy to isable it if we had to.

Iain Westy May 6, 2010, 5:38 PM EST.

Comment ID #16848

Lain….are you insane? No really, are you off your fucking rocker?

First off, Iran itself is crazy enough to use nukes; don’t kid yourself.

Second, what exactly do you think is preventing Iran from selling off those nukes to the highest bidders? They’re leader just last week stated that he thinks everyone should have the right to have nukes, more or less. If they weren’t crazy enough to use the nukes themselves (which they are), they are most certainly crazy enough to sell them to any organization with enough cash.

Quacksalver May 6, 2010, 8:06 PM EST.

Comment ID #16863

1) His name is iain
2) I wouldn’t sell Iran a used pencil for fear that they would use it to kill somebody
3) Despite this, I have no problem with Iranians, just with their “mentally deficient” government
4) …well…I don’t have a fourth point…in fact this whole thing was rather pointless…

@oddguy: I’m less concerned that Iran would use nukes against the U.S. (their rockets can’t even reach that far) and more concerned that Iran and Israel would get into some kind of nuclear slugfest. Those countries are much closer and aren’t exactly best buddies.

(nameless) May 7, 2010, 5:21 AM EST.

Comment ID #17182

326 seats to win Tory 285, Labour 233 Lib Dem 50. I hope they announce coalition soon… Percentage wise, that would topple the Tories.

Pronkat May 7, 2010, 6:42 AM EST.

Comment ID #17206

Swinter, has that EU rep (whatever that is) actually done anything with his\her power?

Besides, my logic applies mainly to democracies that are reliant on two major parties, like Britain, Australia and the US. There are indeed some multi-party democracies and in those cases you don’t always need to do the pragmatic thing.

I guess it sucks that Iran is developing their nuclear bombs, but whatever. It’s scarier to think that there are loose nuclear weapons in Russia being sold on the black market.

Hope we do get a libdem\labour coalition!
