Silent Hill: Bittersweet Awakening

It had been years since Mike left Roseville. Two years since he saw Lucy and the rest of his childhood friends. You see, Mike and Lucy’s relationship never took off because he still held on to that one string of hope that he may see her again… and he did. after graduating from roseville high, Micheal applied to a university in Rickster, where he met up with Sandy after so many years appart.

But now Mike looked out the cold window to the outside of the plane thinking about beeng with his family and childhood friends for the summer. He pulled out an old locket he kept hidden under his sky blue scarf. He opened it and a smile drew on his face as he looked at Sandy’s picture. She had been able to come with him due to her modeling career, but he stilled smiled at the imortalised version of her. On the other side of the locket was an old picture, taken before he left, of Lucy. He suddenly was overcome with sadness. He could not understand it but he stared at the picture for a good half hour before it spontaniously began to burn.

Mike stared at the picture astonished as it darkened and turned to dust. As the flames consumed the captured memory, The korat was going to toss it away but something stopped him, it was as if he had no control over his body. After the last ember fadded Mike’s head began to spin and he tried to bring his hands to his head but he fainted before he could do so.

How much time passed? Mike didn’t know. He slowly opened his blurry eyes and took a few seconds to figure out where he was. Was he in the hospital? No, he realized that he was still on the plane. He lifted his head to look around. The place was a mess, over head bins were wide open and bags were thrown all over the place. Suddenly, the truth hit Mike, “The plane crashed…” said Mike weakly. But where was everyone? Mike looked around and there was no sign that anyone was ever here besides the bags.

He slowly rose from his seat and made his way to the doors of the plane. He brought his hand to the handle but hesitated for a second before continuing his action. The thick door swung open, revealing a road right at his feet. He started to climb down but slid and fell of his ass. “Shit!” yelled Mike, trying to suck up the pain. He turned his head to the right and saw a small town, so he painfully got up and made his way towards it.

It was only about half way that he knoticed the fog get thicker until he could barely see ten feet in front of him. As he entered the town, a sign caught his attention. Mike read it carefully.

Micheal wandered in the town for, what seemed like, hours. He though that the town might be deserted when he finally saw a figure in the fog. “HEY!” he called out, “Hey What gives? did no one realise a fucking plane crashed?” But the figure ignored him, it stood with it’s back turned towards him. The figure’s hands were brought up to it’s face as if it was crying, but it made to sound and stood still. “Hey? did you hear me? My plane just crashed I need to get help! Hey look at me!” Mike grabbed the silhouette’s shoulder and turned it around. His eyes widened as he looked at the creature before him. It was snow white and had no eyes and it’s ears where two fleshy cones on top of it’s head. It had a large mouth and as is shreiked at him, it dislocated like that of a snake’s and became unnaturally large. I must correct myself, for before I had said that it had no eyes, but in reality, they were covered by it’s hands which where glued to it’s face.

The creature aproached him while making biting gestures towards Mike. He stared at the creature as ice filled his vains and it stumbled closer towards him, bitting the air. When it got close enough, Mike could smell the scent of decaying meat and he could not tell if it was from the creature’s breath or from the creature itself, but it didn’t matter he quickly pushed it away before it could bite his arm. The creature stumbled backwards and hit the door of the store they where standing in front of. Mike looked around for a weapon, a baseball bat or a pipe or something, but he didn’t see anything. He then got an idea, he ran towards the large display window and shattered it with his elbow. He looked at the shards of glass on the ground, ignoring the slight pain in his arm, and picked up the larges shard of them all. It was about eighteen inches long and he cut his hand as he held it but he turned towards the creature who was back on it’s feet and stumbling back towards him.

He swung the shard of glass towards the creature and slashed it across the chest. deep crimson blood leaked at an unnatural speed and the creature got enraged and attempted to bite Mike. Mike dodged and stabbed it in the back. The shard was getting covered in both the creature and his’ blood, for he kept cutting his hand. The creature jerked it’s back upwards and Mike’s grip sliped, cutting his fingers. The creature turned around and Mike began to sweat. He got another idea, it was crazy, but Mike frowned, “nothing ventured…” he told himself as the whipped his arm out and grabbed the creature’s neck. The creature opened it’s mouth wide and Mike clearly saw it’s two inch long teeth that ran along in thirteen rows, each splatered with, what could only be blood. but the creature could not reach Mike so Mike ripped out the bloody glass shard. The creature let out a lourd ,sharp, shreik of pain, before Micheal stabbed the creature’s throat. Blood came gushing out and the creature relaxed. Mike let go, wipeing his face with his hand, the creature fell to the ground dead.

“What have I gotten Myself into?” whispered Mike as he entered the store.

Mike searched fruitlessly for a medical care kit, yet there was none. He then turned his attention to a weapon, he had abandoned his glass shard in the creature’s corpse and he needed a new one. He never got a good look at the sign above the store so he wasn’t sure about what type of shop it was, but he knew by the manequins lying on the ground that it was a clothing store.

While he was looking for a weapon, he found an old white shirt. It was a little dusty but it was that or nothing, he ripped off a strip of the fabric and wrapped it carefully around the raw, bloody flesh of his hand. The soft fabric, stained red from his blood, slightly stung his wound.

He looked around again for a weapon, but the only thing he could find were some old hangers so he headed for the door. But as he brought his hand to the handle, he hesitated, what else is out there? he though. Micheal pulled his hand away and slowly walked backwards. He stood there staring at the door for a long time before hearing a blood-curling growl come from outside. he peeked out the window to see what made the noise. The fog was still very thick so he couldn’t see clearly, but he saw something move in the corner of his eye.

Sudenly, a large feral cat walked by. This creature also had no eyes and was missing a nose and it’s ears were also a full cone. The creature looked very skinny, yet very muscular as it stood proud on it’s four legs. between the two massive fangs sticking out of it’s mouth, it let out a little forked tongue and almost emideatly turned toward the door. Mike looked around nervously for something he could use to defend himself, just in case, when he knoticed the shaterred display window. Mike stared at the opening, but the beast crashed through the window next to the korat and pounced him.

Mike barely had time to react, by he grabbed one of the fangs and redirected the bite to the left. He then reached behind him and grabbed a coat hanger and jabbed it in the eye of the creature. It let out a quick yelping noise and our green eyed hero kicked it off. Mike swiftly stood up and readyed himself for the creature to pounce. As it did, he took a deep breath and lunged forward and grabbed both of it’s fangs and pushed them towards it’s chest. Micheal heard a large snapping noiseand the creature fell loosely to the ground. Mike exhaled as he wiped the sweat from his brow, continuously swearing in disbelief of what just happened.

He turned towards the door, and through the window he saw a familiar face walk by calmly. “Lucy?” asked Mike as he opened the door, but she did not answer, she just kept walking. soon she dissapeared in the fog. Mike called to her before running off into the fog.

Although Mike had always been faster than Lucy, he never caught up to her. It was as if she had ceased to exist when she disappeared into the fog. Something definitely felt wrong so he stopped running. He looked around and a bike caught his attention. It was a police motorcycle that crashed into a street light. He searched it for a weapon, but instead found a radio with “C. Bennett” written on the back. The gray cat turned it on, then frowned as it didn’t seem to work. He tossed it on the ground and continued his search. When he gave up, the radio started to blast static. The green-eyed, gray looked at it questionably and reached for it with his injured hand. As he picked up the radio, he noticed the silhouette of a really tall creature. Mike’s heart raced as he looked around. A slight sense of joy over came him as he saw a butcher’s shop. Without thinking, our hero rushed into the establishment.

He stormed through, and hopped behind the counter, looking for a knife. The static intensified as the enormous monster burst into the building. Mike grabbed a meat cleaver and poked his head above the counter to see his opponent. Once again, the town had thrown at him a faceless horror, this time, it’s ears were cut of and it’s eyes were sowed shut. It’s fingers where chopped off as well and it’s hands were extremely swollen, forming two giant club-like limbs. It was huge, and would obviously tower over Mike. The being let out a loud roar and pummeled the counter into dust. Micheal closed his eyes and sung his knife in front of him. He felt a splatter of blood land suddenly on him. He hesitantly opened his eyes and stared at the deep cut he had made on the creature. Despite it’s intimidating stature, it was very soft. Blood spewed from the gash as the creature wailed in pain. The creature swung it’s left arm and hit Mike in the ribs. Mike fell to the ground as a shock traveled through his body.

The monster attempted to crush Mike with it’s right arm, but mike rolled away and got up. He clenched the cleaver tightly and chopped the creature’s arm off. The creature roared, clearly enraged, but was cut off by Mike slicing it in half vertically. Mike wiped off the blood from his face as he walked towards the hole that once was the door. He clipped the radio to his scarf and continued his search for Lucy.

Mike walked around for a long time before catching a glimpse of lucy, who ran into an old house and slamed the door. Micheal approached the door and saw that his name was carved deeply across the wooden door. He gently pushed the door open, “Lucy?” he called out. There was no answer. He took a few steps forward and, having thought he saw something, turned his head quickly to the left. There was nothing, and Mike began to question wether or not he actually saw something. But as he continued down the hall, two eyes opened out of the wall, watching the young man leave sight range.

He looked all around the first floor, but Lucy was no where to be found, so he made his way to the stairs. Mike inspected every corner of the second floor with no results, every corner, except one room. The door seemed to be locked.Mike walked down the stairs and noticed a key that was lying on the living room coffee table. “you weren’t here a minute ago.” he said outloud. As the korat picked it up, he heard a bomber siren ring in his ears. His head began to hurt so much he grabbed his ears and forced his eyes shut.He sucame to his knees from the sheer pain and opened one eye. He could not believe his eyes, the old house was dissolving andhas being replaced by a metalic nightmare.

What was once wood and plaster, was now metal covered in blood and rust. Right away, the radio started to freak out, emitting a sort of static that Mike had never heard before. It was really loud too so, naturaly, he looked around in all directions. there was nothing in the room. Micheal exhaled in releif and walked towards the door. He tried to open it, but the lock seemed to be broken.the gray cat looked at the key that he was holding and had an idea. He walked up the metalic stairs and walked towards the door that was locked before. He passed a large hole in the wall and his radio’s volume intensified. He turned towards the hole and back-up to the wall behind him.

Sitting on a bed in the room on the other side of the hole was a massive gray cat, but that was not all, he was wearing a giant metal pyramid on his head, sort of like a mask. The pyramid had irregular angles, making it look uncomfortable, and seemed to glow red. The thing in front of Mike was wearing an apron which seemed to be made out of flesh and was stained with dirt and blood. It had no visible eyes, but Mike felt it staring at him with a mix of hatred and sadness. The pyramid head gave a gesture, indicating for the green eyed-grey to continue his path. Mike gave a small nod and continued to the door. This one was still locked, but the lock was not broken. Mike’s hand was shaking as he inserted the key and turned it. He heard a clicking sound, followed by the door violently swinging open. Inside was nothing but a desk with a note writen on red paper and another key. The note read as followed:

Time seems to have frozen, so I am unable to tell what day it is. Time flies by, and the worlds keep switching around, fog, other, fog, other… In the other world, there’s this cave, in the basement, It’s a way out, I know it is, but this house is the only “safe” place in this cursed town. The cave is also an entrance for the monsters, none have shown up, but i know they’ll come. I locked the door to the basement, just in case, I have the key here with me.

- Richard Mantelo

When Mike finished reading, he noticed that the static had stopped. He grabbed the key and walked over to the hole in the wall. “Pyramid head” as he called it, was no where to be seen.

Mike walked through the hole, readying his cleaver, and looked around. Mike panicked, where did it go? he asked himself. Micheal heard something hit the ground, and Mike noticed a pocket flashlight lying on the floor underneath a metallic shelf. The gray cat walked over and bent down to pick it up. It was small, black and slightly covered with blood. The light flickered as mike turned the device on. He clipped it on his scarf, turned towards the hole and left.

Micheal walked slowly down the stairs to the first floor, clutching his trusty knife as his radio began to emit static. He heard a blood curling growl and saw a figure kneeling next to a completely mauled corpse. Mike flashed light on the pale, fur-less creature. It stood up almost immediately and turned towards our terrified protagonist. The creature, unlike all the others he had encountered, had a woman’s body with fingers that ended in round sickle blades. It’s face was completely blanc with the exception of a mouth which was surrounded by blood.

The atrocity leaped forward, landing just inches away from Mike, and began to swing it’s claws towards him. Mike dodged and slashed the creature’s arm. As a response, it pounced him but before it could begin to claw at him, it was picked up by the neck and thrown across the room by Pyramid Head. Mike thought that maybe now, he might be safe with this odd character. Those thoughts were shattered when Pyramid violently grabbed him and threw him at a door. The green eyed gray passed right through it and, unfortunately, discovered a flight of stairs which Micheal tumbled down before crashing into another door.

Tears streamed down Mike’s bruised face as he pushed himself up, certain he had broken something. He pushed open the door to find a cave with various symbols surrounding it. Mike painfully hoped towards the so-called exit. After entering the cave, he heard something behind him, he turned around to see Pyramid head wielding a spear with multiple strange symbols on it. Mike panicked before being impaled by the spear. Mike felt nothing but the pain in his abdomen before crumpling loosely to the ground.

He could hardly stay awake. The pain was to intense and he felt the life seeping out with the blood. He heard a flat line sound, like one of those machines at the hospital. It was near yet at the same time far. His vision blurred as he looked down the tunnel. In the middle of the darkness was a white figure with a pink bow around her neck. “Run Lucy…” he let out weakly, coughing blood.

A memory resurfaced from a deep corner of his mind. He was about thirteen or fourteen, the sun was shining and the leaves blew in the wind on a cool autumn afternoon. The leaves had all changed colors and Mike was reading a book under the shade of a tree with bright red and yellow leaves. Lucy came and sat next to him. They talked and laughed, they were happy. The flashback slowly faded into darkness with the image of Mike and Lucy laughing.

After hours of darkness, Mike slowly opened his eyes to find the world, as it was, frozen in black and white. Mike got up and realized that his injuries had healed, even the cuts on his hands from the glass shard. He still heard the ringing of the flat line sound echoing in the cold world he found himself in. He took a couple of steps to test his leg and then ran down the cavern.

The tunnel seemed to go on for eternity but finally, Mike came across a ladder at the end of the tunnel. It led him into some sort of storage room. He crawled out of the hole and headed straight to the door. He was in a grocery store and it seemed empty. The streets where also deserted. no monsters, no people. Nothing.
