Anyone here into RPGs?

Comment ID #111751

I love RPGs, especially D&D (Although I’ve been looking into GURPS). If there’s anyone out there who also likes RPGs or would consider trying one, here’s my basic idea. I’d just kind of like to play an RPG with everyone as furries (and I realize that I’m looking for that small group of people who like both RPGs and Furries). We could do a D&D game with some of the more animal-like races (there are plenty of them on the D&D Wiki) or we could go with a much different setting on something like GURPS. Also, I’m kind of new to this site, I only starting reading the comic last week but now I’m caught up and I love it.

We already have a roleplay running. Look at this topic:

http://www.bittersweetcandybowl.com/forum/ 72115.html

You can read how it’s played there. It is, I think, somewhat reminiscent of D&D (although I have not really played either). ^_^

Also, every once in a while we play murder mystery games (like Agatha Christie’s whodunit novels). They are not at all like D&D, but they are a fun pastime activity.

I don’t want to be rude or anything, but that system seems a little, simple. I don’t know, I just like to have a more complex system. It’s a nice, straight-forward system, just not really my style.

I recently tried starting a role-playing playing game but the three people who repeatedly posted on it hated the idea and mocked me. :(

I’ve invented an AWESOME hybrid of Dungeons and Dragons and the LEGO system of play. I basically took elements from actual games and combined them with ideas from webcomics, and after inventorying my LEGO collection, I set up a game. One of the cool aspects is that the players move their customizable minnifigure miniatures around a brick-built world, which is really entertaining for kinesthetic and visual people.

I’m geeking out, aren’t I?

It is intentionally a simplistic system to encourage a pick up and play sensibility. It keeps the game from being too exclusive, and also allows for quicker setup times. Considering that there are actually quite allot of people on here that enjoy Role Playing, it was the best option that included everyone.

Theres one, maybe two true to form DnD groups on here too. But they’re smaller, and harder to find and get into.

I like Roleplaying Videogames. Does that count? Stuff like Fable, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, and such.

I do believe we are talking about Tabletop RPGs, not virtual ones. Besides, tabletop is 9000 times better than computer/game-system.

The problem I have with most RPG video games is an utter lack of actual role-playing. Video games are fairly restrictive by nature, there’s only so much you can do in a video game.

Yeah, only games that involve the flexible creativity of othe human beings are worth it. You can forget Chutes and Ladders.

In my role-playing game their were few “you can’t do this” rules. :(

Hmm, Chutes and Ladders RPG…

But seriously, actually RPing your character with other people is the best part. So, it looks like we have a few takers, the next step is to choose the GM.

So, if you’re interested, post whether or not you want to GM, what system you prefer, and then what you want the game to be like.

@Lark
You are in a room, devoid of anything but a single light. As you look down you realize you are covered in fur and are, in fact, a cat person. The walls are bare except for a blood smear, reading, “Ph’nglui mglw’nafh YIFF R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn.” In the room is also a cat-woman. WHAT DO YOU DO?

Related to the original topic, “Call of Cthulu” is an awesome system, but my favorite has to be “Paranoia”. It is so much crazy fun to play. Like “Gamma World” that recently released but a lot funnier and in some situations a lot more zany.

Bribri and I both play a bunch of RPGs, and I know some other folk around here must as well. We also are (less than coincidentally) the two most active GMs in the Fair River Roleplay here. The system is simple, but its not really designed to be like D&D, more like a very lightweight system which allows for non-arbitrary combat adjucation while still being very flexible for freeform. It has few rules and it takes about ten minutes to make a character, so its not exclusive at all.

I play a lot of more hardcore RPGs, but 4th edition Dungeons & Dragons is my specialty. I also enjoy Alternity a great deal. I have played old Vampire, new WoD (though that was primarily Vampire as well), GURPS, and pretty much every other edition of D&D, and I have rulebooks for a few systems I’ve never played.

Honestly, I’m not looking to run another game at the moment (I’m running two, plus trying to run sessions for the Fair River thing, though I fail to get one together every week these days; I’m trying though) but if you’re looking for a player I’d probably be interested because I’m a dork like that. Especially in a month or so when my online D&D campaign will (hopefully) finish its arc.

Warhammer 40k has the best universe in all of fiction, but I don’t even play video games anymore much less table top stuff.
