Well, I know that they were also called the Eastern Roman Empire, because they are what remained after the Roman Empire fell into pieces (that is, it split in two, and the Western Roman Empire was overrun by barbarians many centuries before Byzantium was destroyed). Byzantium, on the other hand, lasted until 1453 (I think; I had better double check that number) when the Ottomans sieged their capital city - which is variously known as Constantinople, Byzantium and, today, Istanbul.

They were a formidable military might for some time, although they never reached the glory they formerly had as the greater Roman Empire. Since early on, Byzantium has been a centre for the Eastern Church, which includes the Greek Orthodox and Russian Orthodox denominations, as well as many others (though, let it be said that these denominations at first did not exist at all - they gradually evolved starting in the eleventh century).

It still kept emperors, and they had considerable pieces of land to keep control of. They did not extend much into Europe, however, as variously the Western Roman Empire, the Huns, the Vandals, and other barbarian tribes controlled that land. Their areal mostly laid in middle Asia, with Turkey being the focal point, so to speak.

That is what I could remember off the top of my head. ^_^

If you’re too lazy to do your own work, then how do you expect to succeed at anything?

Stop being lazy, and just do the work. This is how you become more capable, not just in school, but in life in general.
