So, in the past day or so we’ve been going through and cleaning up the tags section of Candybooru. Because that shit was whack. There were many redundant, unused, and unnecessary tags just flying all over the place; we also managed to tag most of the artists, and a bunch of other stuff. So now we’d like it to stay nice and neat! OR I WILL KILL YOU

So, here’s a few things I’d like you guys to pay attention to when you’re tagging things :I

Things that always get their own tag: Artists, Characters (by Name), Pairings (use the order that pops up). Pretty self explanatory. Also, the Comic tag, if it’s an original comic by you, or the Edit tag, if it’s… well an edit.

Certain Exceptions, Optional, and Special Tags

Rule63/Genderbend: Ok no. Genderbended characters do not get their own Name tags. Why? BECAUSE NOBODY CAN AGREE ON WHAT THEIR NAMES ARE. Seriously, there were like Augustine, Augusta, Autumn, and then like 5 misspellings in there. From now on, just include the original Character name and the Genderbended tag. You shouldn’t have that much trouble finding it later.

Outfits And Such: If a character is very clearly dressed up as someone from another series, or as a monster or something, just use the Costume tag. There really aren’t enough images/variety on the board to warrant an individual tag for each source. This also applies to recreating scenes or quoting stuff from popular media; Just use the Parody tag for those.

Fancharacters: Get the Fancharacter tag. Obviously. You can also include a name.

(Blank)_Shipping: I will end you. We have the pairing tags for this (Character)x(OtherCharacter). As far as “what if they had kids” is concerned, just add the Kids or Kittens tag. We’ll sort it out later.

Deleteme: If you set something to delete, PLEASE leave a comment explaining why.

Role Play Nonsense: I use nonsense because I know it will annoy you. BUT, in any case, just uhh, use the RP tag for all that stuff. Not individual names for each… campaign, or what have you. Given there’s not that many images to begin with, a simple RP tag search should give you what you’re looking for. This also applies to fancomics; If you’ve got at least 5 or more pages, you can give it a title tag, so I can organize it later. 2 or 3 though? No dice.

Ok. I think that covers all the existing problems? Here’s how new stuff goes down.
If you want to add a new tag, please make sure it’s relevant. I know you went through a lot of trouble to draw that shopping cart for that image, but there’s ONE other shopping cart across all the ‘booru. It doesn’t need its own tag. The board is dedicated to BCB art only, so we really don’t need tags for every little thing (that was the problem to begin with). In general, don’t add a(n optional) tag unless there’s at least 4-5 other images that also need it.

That is to say, if you really want a tag added, (a good example is the Weapons tag, which NCN took the time out to find examples for), go find a bundle (3+!) of images that would also qualify, and then come toss it to me on IRC or tell someone who can get in contact with me (or post it here! I’ll probably check this from time to time), and I’ll be happy to make it happen. When I get around to it. Really obscure and simple things don’t need a tag. Kiss? Maybe. I didn’t feel like detagging everything, and it’s pseudo-reasonable to search for, so it’s sticking around. But we don’t need a Cuddle, Snuggle, AND Huggle tag. If I see one of these stupid tags and it’s only on one image, I’m just going to get rid of it.

“But Credence!,” You say. “I really wanted to search for that Yu-Gi-Oh Sandy and Lucy over Mike image! And now you’ve gotten rid of the Yu-Gi-Oh Tag! (or something equally stupid)”

Yeah. That’s because there was ONE image with it. And you want that image? Search “Mike Lucy Sandy”. BAM. Right on the front page. If people actually do what they’re supposed to do with tags, it should actually make finding everything a lot easier. :|

In any case, I know there’s still a few images/tags floating around counter to these rules, but all of this is still a work in progress. With your cooperation, we can make the candybooru be tooootally reasonable. (If I see another tag like ‘Hands’ I’m going to skullfuck somebody).

You should not be uploading 2000x3000 images of dubious quality. Accidents occur (especially with camera images), so I’m reasonable. But don’t keep it up. If one of you smartasses starts doing it on purpose I’m going to fuck your IP with a rusty spork. Assuming Tae doesn’t first.
