ROCK CANDY THE VOTE

A simple giveaway thing designed to get a few of our American friends out there and voting on November 2nd! Please don’t feel upset if you’re too young or too unamerican. Or if you voted early (good on you).

All you have to do is go vote on the day (Tuesday), snap a picture of the place you voted at (some official signage would do) and post the picture and your email in this thread. We will pick five entries at random, and send each person a packet of candy. A $12 VALUE!! (really! there’s barely any margin on the candies and the shipping costs are like whoa.)

You have to have registered to vote. If you forgot to register, you missed out and kinda suck. If you are registered (did you vote in 2008? this means you are) and don’t know where to vote, the front page widget on Democrats.org can direct you to your nearest polling place. GOP.com can direct you to get angry about Al Franken or something, but even if you’re a nut you can still use the Democrats site to find where you can vote.

RULES

You must have voted to enter. We are going by the honour system here!

If you were going to vote anyway, you can enter, but try to encourage your less civically-minded friends to do the same!

As a cursory bit of evidence, you must post a photo of the polling place you visited in this thread, along with an email address. No photo? No email address? We’ll skip past your entry!

If you vote for a third party candidate, your candy will be laced with arsenic.*

(*joke, but perhaps you should do this)

LEGAL NOTICE: This is just us sending out five packets of candy to some fans of the comic. Nothing more. If you feel slighted, or feel like this is a competition, or whatever, it’s not! Candy is always available on the store for $6 or in a fan pack, you know!

This thread can be used for entries or discussion, just go on ahead.

why all this things about and wiht to do with usa such that hallowen page style and now this about their elections? This webcomic is australian…the creator is australian too….i dont understand….

Flavio November 1, 2010, 5:44 PM EST.

Comment ID #116256

I find it odd that Australians would have this much interest in the U.S. midterm elections, to the point of giving incentives to American citizens who vote.

Plus the offer excludes readers who are not Americans, who are under 18 years of age, etc., which I don’t think is particularly fair.

Also, it’s probably worth noting that a number of U.S. states have laws that restrict photography at polling stations. California, for example, prohibits photography and videography within 100 feet of a polling place.

And they just want the Americans who can vote to vote cause we are notorious for skipping out on it. I think this is a great way to get me to go do it.

Yus! I was gonna vote anyways! :D It’ll be my first (voting virgin) as I turned 18 this year. Yay candy I always wanted to try! So we take a picture of the building that we voted in?

Sonata November 1, 2010, 7:48 PM EST.

Comment ID #116428

I’m an absentee voter so I already sent in my ballot and only have my stubs to prove I voted, and therefore can not participate.

Saying this, I still think it’s really cool that you are doing this Taeshi/Suitcase. I know so many people who just don’t vote, and I find it really disappointing. Any little incentive helps, and who knows, maybe the glittering prize of BCB candy will actually get some people off their asses and into action!

So yeah, just wanted to say this is cool, even if people will bawwww about it being exclusive. :3

here we have a lot of parties….like the labour party, the comunist party, the social liberal party, the green party (meant ecological party), and another parties that i forget….. instead of you americans that have only two parties. You already are a more experient and older democracy than us, so i belive that with some time we might had only two parties too….i’m wondering….

@ Flavio: Most other representative systems have measures against the two-party system. The only way anyone can get into power at all is by sucking the collective dicks of interest groups to grant you money to fund your latest attack campaign.

I briefly thought about creating my own contest which would be open to everyone. Only problem is, with the current forum setup, it would be too easy for people to enter under multiple names.

HB, well, sure I guess. Go for it. You can go with your parent(s) and count that.

Flavio, like Sammy said, Veronica lived most of her life in America and 65% of the readership is American. Also, you’re stupid if you don’t care about US politics!

Wacko, oh, that’s interesting. So many legal issues to worry about. Honestly, any photo that vaguely proves you went somewhere to vote will do. If you’re concerned about getting arrested for taking a photo of a school or something, you can just post a flyer you got from a candidate. This is not an especially rigid “competition”.

Sorry about all the absentee\early voters. That’ll show you for being dedicated and intelligent!
