Who here belives in zombies?

Comment ID #127424

Do you believe there are zombies that exist currently, in the past, or could happen one day in the near (or far) future?

My definition of “zombie” would be the dead reanimating by some means, (could be biological, witchdoctor voodoo magic, etc.) or some viral, parasitic, or biological occurrence that would shut down bodily controls and take over to exhibit zombie like actions.

If you have a different thought or definition of “zombie” please share. Yes I do believe in zombies, though crazy it may sound.

While the gamer/movie fan would love for zombies to be real, the more realistic side is too disbelieving to actually care.

If anyone wants a good read, here’s two cracked articles:

5 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Apocalypse Could Actually Happen (It’s a little old though)
and
7 Scientific Reasons a Zombie Outbreak Would Fail (Quickly)

I should mention a mature warning on the articles or something.

In Haiti, zombies are real. But they’re not brain-eating “Zombies” we saw in the movies, It’s more like a person who’s drugged, or cursed by a witch doctor or something like that. the person who’s drugged, or cursed, Will become but a mindless person, and do whatever they’re told to do by the witch.

One real zombie case is Felicia Felix-Mentor, a woman who are found wondering on the streets on 1936, while she was buried in 1906. Here’s the wikipedia article

Creepy, isn’t it?

So…What I’m trying to tell you is, Zombies are real. And I kinda believed it. But they’re not brain-eaters, they’re more like an enslaved man.

I believe that zombies created the sky and the earth and all that lives in our planet, and even us, humans, who they made in their likeness.

Eh, if we are going to say that we believe in zombies and then redefine what zombies are, we might as well say that we do not. ^_^

I do not think that zombies are real. If you count ‘dead people that suddenly were not dead anymore’ as zombies, then sure enough, there are well-documented cases of that. But no, that is not a zombie as far as I am concerned.

Hee. ‘Zombie’ is a rather fun word, actually. ^_^

@ILB
Zombie is a word that comes from Haiti and may very well describe what Binary is talking about.
Romero Zombies appeared long after the idea was created. The word “ghoul” describes them more accurately (the word was used many times in Night of the Living Dead).

Yes, of course. But the definition in the main post (exhibit zombie-like actions) does tend towards the Romero zombies of which you speak. I am well aware that the modern concept lies far away from the original idea (see also: witch, vampire, politician), but with the connotations we have to the term, the “Haitian” definition loses a bit of its weight. Not to say that it does not happen, because I do know that drugs do strange things. But when we, as we do today, think of zombies as slow-moving, brain-eating shotgun targets, I do not think that one can define the word that close to its etymology without being misunderstood. Shortly put, I have resigned myself to it. ^_^

yeah….Romero changed the definition of “Zombie”.

But I gotta admit, I prefer zombies as shotgun targets, not as a thrall of some witch doctor….

to make the haitain zombies you need ground up blowfish which used to be hard to come by before the intenet age….the only reason you dont see more of them these days is because everyonmes caught up on the undead type of viral zombie.

suprised no mention of the Jiang Shi yet considering all the video game and anime fans on this site
