This makes me want to go into a “He’s a Lumberjack”-style choir sequence. ^_^

The 404 errors are because he shut down the test sight.
He said that.

I thought that since you said what you said, I and some others could make a small group and harmonise on these lyrics in the background:

He said read danmit!
You!
HB
ANinnyMouse
read the whole danm page!

Did none of you guys see my suggestion (on the second page)? :[ It makes me kind of sad, considering I was serious about my suggestion.. I really think that phpBB3 is a pretty good forum software, considering that I’m on a successful forum that uses it… I don’t think that it’s that difficult to use, considering that the administrators on the forum that I use don’t seem to have much of a problem with it.

One who can not care for the “Shit” can not be a good mod.

navi November 24, 2010, 4:50 AM EST.

Comment ID #132604

There is a lot worse shit said on here besides “Shit”.

Do you want me to go through the list?

Leaving a Comment November 24, 2010, 4:52 AM EST.

Do all the words that could be used to describe the Shit have anything constructive about them?
If they do, go on.

You can construct things out of shit. Who says you can’t be constructive with shit?

Renae, sorry, I must have glossed you over.

phpBB is something I disregarded pretty early. I’ve used a lot of phpBB forums too, but it had this historical stigma of being dreadfully insecure. I didn’t install the new one to play with it, but just a glance at it made it feel clunky, confused and heavy.

Essentially, things like phpBB, SMF, etc, fit into this category of “boards you should use when you’re too cheap to buy vBulletin or Invision”. I don’t mind paying the money to get a clunky, confused and heavy board with slightly more features, so I went for the latter.

I do appreciate your input, though. It was quite an interesting thread, I didn’t expect the sort of replies I got for the most part.

Right-o, then. As a little bit of research, I tried a quick signup to the dying Invision one, and I must admit the presentation is quite clean and smooth. As externally designed forums go, it seems a pretty reasonable choice.

Amusing to see a forum being consumed by the digital ether, though. When you said you were clearing it off soon, Souppy, I kinda underestimated your keenness.

Well I’ll be sad to this this one go, one of the reasons I got attracted to the forums was because it was so non-traditional. But I suppose one must adapt to the changings of time.

That happens when there are too many people interacting.
I believe this is the best choice.

Wait, Seriously? I’ve got no idea why that would happen and I’ve only been on the old forum twice today. Maybe we live nearby each other or something?

Eh it happens with me and *ninja some times although it hasn’t happened in a while so just fix your name until it stops happening and you’ll be fine.

damn, I’m late to the party. Though I’m sure a decision has already been reached and that what I have to say has probably been said many times before, I feel like adding my 2 cents.

In my experience with administrating for now-dead gaming clan forums, I find the more complicated, pain in the arse, route to be the better choice for exactly what you said; very useful down the road, more so for the benefit of the community with all the nifty features at their disposal (PMs being a big one). But personally, I don’t really care either way, you could go with the simplified one and I’d be happy just to have an account and avatar. My only concern with a forum would be forum sigs, some people get waaay too damn crazy with those things.

Something I found interesting on some other sites and services that helped with page load times was a system that compressed user avatars to less than 3 kb in size when they’d be uploaded. Sure was annoying to have to re’shop an image over and over again so that it wouldn’t look grainy as hell, but it was worth it. Will people be able to upload avatars of their own? If so, what would the dimension restrictions be? I like 79x79 :)

I guess I didn’t have as much to say as I thought I did… meh, in any case I’m really looking forward to this change.

On deviantArt (on her new emoticons!), Taeshi suggested we’d be seeing the new forums on Monday.

Not sure if this is totally confirmed, tho’…

Chewy, good to know! I think Invision was the right choice.

The avatar size limit is 200x80 and 150kb. I can change that if people start creating avatars with huge file sizes, though.

Lycus, Yappy, I plan on switching them over when the comic updates in 5-6 hours.
