Let’s say they did change the wording: what good does it do that they can’t really enforce this shit?

Jerk November 23, 2010, 9:37 PM EST.

I don’t think any sane person would ever go along with this.

sweet mother, this breaks my heart, man. and funny, a few days ago i was defending the UN humanitarian interventionism to protect innocent people from genocidal states. Even if they heavy screwed up in Rwanda (800.000 deaths, sistematical genocide, fuckin bureaucratic was guilty)
i had faith in this dudes to at least help in countries in crisis. now you come with this… fuck , then where’s the equality in the world now? it’s most probable they did this cuz of the persecution to gay people in african countries… jeez , how easy your idealism can get broken, dude. this is discusting , UN is just a puppet of NATO interests!!!

Thanks UN; so glad to know that if I’m killed without cause you won’t give a shit.
Fucking stellar.
In related news, large man slaps UN representatives upside the head, screaming, “What the fuck is wrong with you!?!” More as it developes.
@Jerk
Can they enforce anything? It’s the League of Nations but different this time, we swear you guys, for reals.

EDIT: Angry Game is angry. Grrr.
It is rage, all the way down.

Did they actually pass this already?

SushiJaguar November 23, 2010, 9:53 PM EST.

Comment ID #132331

This seems to be about what i expect from the U.N. They barely have any power to act on their resolutions and the ones that they do pass make absolutely no sense.

Comment ID #132345

Let’s face it. The UN’s track record for enforcing its resolutions is fairly nonexistent.
Look at Rwanda. So many people dead because no one outside the country gave a damn.
Of course, this is still a step backward for society. Okay, it’s time travel back to the start of last century, I got that. So don’t think I’m defending these morons.

lets hope the F.U.N its just playing a big (and bad) joke… i mean , come on… how the non-democratic bunch can call a vote to revoke the principles of the U.N? this could end in a big misunderstood or the UN is about to lose the few legitimacy it had.

This is a message from the BCB donation fund.
We here at the BCB are attempting to raise $50,000.
If we are successful in out endeavor, the money will be used to pay a terrorist organization to have someone run into the middle of the UN building and blow the fuck up.
Thank you and have a wonderful life.

I doubt the government would take a sarcastic terroristic comment on a forum for a webcomic about anthropomorphic animals seriously.

ANinnyMouse November 23, 2010, 11:03 PM EST.

Comment ID #132375

There are so many problems with it anyway.
For starters, if a terrorist organization could just walk into the UN and blow up they would have and the fund would be unneeded.

If we’re just talking about the US’s reaction to a shaky, easily disproved threat from a webcomic, this is the country who recently starting molesting travelers in the name of national security.

Back on topic: Where does everyone else rank the 17 “abstentions?” Better or worse than the countries who voted yes? If just 10 of those had voted no, we wouldn’t be having this talk right now…

abstentions are most of times explained by traffic of influences, my friend… that means most of those countries offered their vote for a price…

JPEspinoza November 23, 2010, 11:53 PM EST.

Comment ID #132416

but the real problem lies here: these non democratic countries have acted as one, played the democratic game and won… that means they could easily change other rules … maybe persecute for creed or race…

I don’t want to sound racist here, but I am just pointing out a fact. The majority of countries that voted for this are Muslim dominated while the majority that voted against it are Judeo-Christian/Secular. Expect to see more decision like this in the future.

The only problem I had with the original bill was did it mean if you were not on that list that it was ok to execute you without cause? Shouldn’t it be wrong to execute anyone without cause?

Oi, WTF, not all Christians are like that. Sadly, it appears the majority of them are, but my friends who are Christian don’t persecute based on creed, race, sexual orientation, or anything like that.
I think the reason you don’t hear about these Christians much is because they’re not holding up picket signs in front of D.C.

From this vote we can say that:
79 Countries are racist retards.
70 Countries got the right idea that the vote was retarded.
17 Countries are indifferent bastards.
26 Countries are lazy bastards that could make a difference.

The democratic system has its flaws and this is one of them. This doesn’t show that the UN is stupid. It shows that the amount of retards with shit instead of brains outweighs the amount of normal people.

Valumior November 25, 2010, 3:41 PM EST.

the UN is supposed to protect people.
there should have been a safeguard, like requiring a 90% vote or even making it impossible to allow such persecution.
this shows a gross idiocy on the part of the formers of the UN that has carried on into today.
therefore…..
IS SO STUPID!!

UN failed as an institution. lacks of strong laws and rules. when basic civil rights like this one could be revoked by democratic ways, its obviously a problem with the institution.
but, as Valumior said, the fault at the same time, its from their own members, with a lack of interest in human rights, they are easily bought with economical or political rewards, among others. Im pretty damn sure the ones who didn’t voted, are now receiving their cookie!

Hello peoples, I’m back from the grave!!

On to the topic. I am against this vote, but consider that it was a democratic vote. To avoid these situations, the U.N. would have to transform into an autoritharian entity, and the membership would become unnecessary. What happens then? Who makes all the decisions? What can the other countries do if they disagree with said decisions? In the end it is a problem of who has the power (in this case through numbers)

Another point is, why have this list in the first place? If any arbitrary kill goes against human rights, why should only certain groups be given protection? Does that mean that those who don¿t make it to the list are denied the right of life or a just trial? And again, who decides which group goes in the list?

Many of you actually believed that the U.N had the power to change the world and make it a better place. I guess you also believe in unicorns and talking drama-loving cats. At the time of this posting, the world population almost reaches 7 * 10^9 (or 7 GigaHumans), an amount imposible to control by any single entity. World peace is an ilusion, and the reason of this is diversity. If you want peace, you need to turn everyone into a mindless slave; if you want freedom and diversity, you sacrifice peace and understanding. That is unless everyone attained inner peace, then no one would feel threatened by the ideas of others, and maybe world peace wouldn’t be so far off. But I digress.

Lastly, even if they didn’t vote this, what prevents those countries to kill gay people anyways? I don’t think the U.N. has much power in those parts, and I’m almost sure that there’ve been a lot of killings, even though they are condemned by the rest of the world. Meanwhile, those living in countries that voted agains this resolution still have a reduced chance of being mauled to death by crazy fanatists.

I may not like what some people do I this world, but as an atheist, I believe that everyone should be allowed to do what they want as long as no one is hurt, or if nothing bad will happen for their actions.
