When I read BCB for the first time, I read the first thirty-seven chapters in one sitting, before suddenly discovering that I had not read anything else than the first pages of those chapters. I found next to no continuity in the story, because I had pressed the “Next Chapter” button rather than the “Next Page” one. ^_^
When I discovered that, though, I went back and read it page by page. That said, Confrontation was the chapter that really piqued my interest in the comic (plus the dating simulator banner advertisement) - the majority of the comic was not that good, but Confrontation combined with what I had seen that BCB had become (A page from Another Shoulder) kept me reading. I was very pleasantly surprised as the art improved, and the story was intriguing all the way through.
So, to sum it up: I was not immediately hooked, but I read it hoping that I would be. ^_^

I actually bounced into it off a banner on Dr. McNinja, a comic so unsimilar its hilarious. I’m very new, it was on the first rehearsal page when I ended up here. I lawled and said “HA! Furry AND slice of life?!? what foolishness is this?” Then for odd some reason I decided to read the first chapter. I chuckled at it a bit and decided to read the next. and the next. and the next. I found BCB at 5:00 pm that day and before I knew it I had read through the whole damn comic in one sitting and it was 3:00 am. the damn thing has almost made me cry a couple times. I’m a bit obsessed now, and now look at the week in terms of update days and not update days, trivialites such as “monday” or “saturday” no longer concern me

I stumbled upon this comic only a few months ago, and it and the BCB community are now two things I think of regularly.
The story itself isn’t what hooked me, it was the characters. Primary education was hell to me, I never knew who my friends or enemies were, I was a minority in dozens of ways, and I was completely incapable of standing up for myself. Everything that could have gone wrong did and I had more than one near death experience on the way through.
How does this relate to these characters? They are both the envy of my youth and the consolation that no one’s life, even when you go in with the best hand, is perfect. Mike’s got everything a guy his age could ask for: he’s wanted, he’s smart, his family can pay the bills, he’s athletic, and he has all the friends he needs to get by, but his life is still a mess. Maybe that’s also why I want to see things work out with Sandy, I want to believe that even if you get hit hard enough to change your life forever, there’s still something worth taking another hit for.
I see a bit of myself in all of them, and though I want to believe no one’s going to get hurt I have the feeling that someone’s “Paradise Lost” is coming. I guess that’s another reason I keep reading, just to see who’s number gets called.

I found this when I was voting for another webcomic. I saw the little dating simulatoresque advertsement, then opened it in a new tab, to see what it was like. Hooked from the beginning.

Nope, I found the comic, quickly lost interest, later found the comic again, decided to test it for at least one chapter, and than was hooked.

*The Ninja peeks out from beneath the mountain of homework, calculus problems, essays, book reports, and combat diagrams that has filled his room. Reaching forward with a meter-stick, he brushes aside a pile of mandatory poems to expose his computer. He must have been dead tired the night before, because the computer was still on and displaying the BCB forums page. After considering whether or not this was a good sign, the Ninja decided that he really didn’t care and simply posted this reply.*
I was sort of like you, but I did more of this.^

Found this through Dr McNinja, an epic comic. I ignored it at first, but then gave in to my curiousity. Read all the chapters up to date in one sitting, and loved it.
I still think the old art style is better. D:

I found this comic last week myself. I saw the banner on Brawl In The Family. Found it cute looking and decided to take a look. Read it nonstop for two days and fell in love with it.
The characters and the way they interact is amazing. They feel like real people. The plot gets pretty good by chapter 30 too. Now It’s my favorite web comic.
Having a talent for good writing is rare but being a good artist as well is a one in a million thing. I am glad Taeshi decided to share it with the world. It became a better place thanks to that.
I probably should introduce myself. I am Nikel nice to meet you all. Hope we’ll get along.

I first bounced into here off Top Webcomics. Like everyone else, I was addicted within a couple of pages, and read through the entire archive (which at that time would’ve been up to, oh, the start of Back and Forth?) in one afternoon.
I didn’t notice the sun set.
…Minus occasional work-related absences, I’ve been here ever since. ![]()

Found it through “PAY ATTENTION TARDS” on some random site. Read all the way through, over a couple of days. Flew around the first couple of chapters, completely confused, then took the time to let what I was reading sink in. Very nearly burst into tears at several points. To be honest, BCB actually helps me get up on Monday mornings.
Also, the Forum, Jerk, Gabriel, Radial, everyone else I don’t have enough space to mention and the fan-content are my favorite part aside from the main comic. ![]()

i just don’t know… i started reading because it’s on a list of best webcomics, reading the name “Bittersweet Candy Bowl” only made you wonder what it is. so i started reading, and after a while i became amazed with the story, no i haven’t read all of it. but enough to understand it. i may have missed a few important things. (like sandy.) but still. it’s great. was anyone else automatically hooked?
