Niiiiiiiice. I wanna see the cover ![]()
I still stand by my statement that you guy’s should auction off this one when you start sales. A chance to get the first ever printed BCB test book.
Unless you guy’s wanna hog it all to yourselves ![]()

Oh shi-
That’s one thick book ![]()
Comment ID #26467
It’s surprisingly big and thick! (that’s what Paulo said) Plus this version is about 50 pages short of what the real one will be. The one I have is 260mm. This is not going to work with $4 large letter postage.
I’m not allowed to show you the cover, unfortunately. It was an old idea that I got Veronica to do a quick sketch for, and she’s embarrassed about the sketch part.
I’m mostly happy with the quality, the paper is kind of blindingly bright though. I’m disappointed in the printing of the cover, it seems like it was done on a consumer laserjet—sure, it’s glossy, but it fucks up gradients and looks cheap up close. The interior, which I submitted at 300dpi because I had trouble compressing the PDF otherwise, really doesn’t look that great and needs 600dpi to work, I think. Also, while it’s to be expected, the summer vacation and newer chapters look so much better than the box comics.
I’ll continue testing - the next book will be a 30-page short one, testing different level and dpi options for the nicest interior pages.

I would so buy this if I had the money >![]()

Practically a calvin and hobbes sized book.
Comment ID #26474
It’s kind of a way to get all the old stuff out of the way so all the other volumes can be beautifully Photoshopped :-[
Comment ID #26478
Does this mean I have to give up my hopes of all the old chapters being redrawn (like the first one)??? Ohhh the sadnessssss….
Comment ID #26483
Hey now, to draw all thouse would mean more pages and backgrounds.
And we know Taeshi has enough work as it is. ![]()

Yes, the cleanups you see on the site are the best you’re going to get. It’d take far too long, and frankly BCB has always been a comic that has been tied pretty deeply to the author’s development as an artist. I know it kind of sucks, but you’ll have to wait for whatever comes after BCB to see something that’s going to be professional from the start.
I thought that getting the first comic redrawn, the first four after that re-lettered and fixing a crucial chapter (Confrontation) was the best way to fix the major problems, and that was dutifully done for the website relaunch.
My worst fear for this printed edition relates to the fairly poor quality of a lot of the comics inside it, but there’s not much that can realistically done!

I see a DVD in the picture, is that UP?
Comment ID #26487
It is pretty weird that you can tell that that is Up.
Comment ID #26489
I can recognize the back cover.
(stared it the DVD first time I got it)

Judging from the way you’re holding it, it seems like the margin might be a little too small. Like, the crevice of the book in between pages might make it hard to see what’s going on in the right panels of the first page and the left panels of the second page. Other than that, it looks fine.
Comment ID #26498
Oh, of course. That’s the sort of thing I made this to check. The bit you’re talking about is the gutter, and now I have a good idea of how wide a gutter I need to work around. I’m also better able to work out how to deal with pages that don’t fill the space provided.

Yay, I did good at spotting stuff. Although you obviously saw it already, I’m glad I helped? ^_^’

I wonder, if you could get the cover printed using a sublimation printer it would probably look a lot better.

Oh. Oh wow. This is awesome! Squee!

Why buy the book? You can read the comic right here on the website.
Comment ID #27477
Some people would rather have the feel of the book and the ability to look at past pages without a need of a computer.
Comment ID #27481
Some people also have really bad internet connections which make going through the archives slow and difficult.
Comment ID #27637
Yeah, plus it’ll have bonus stuff in it. It’s just a means of monetising webcomics, a lot of artists do it.
Comment ID #27647
One thing I like about books is that I can read it in bed, with the AC on. We have no AC where the PC is at and it’s immensely hot here. Plus, I can bring it around. I printed out one of the webcomics I read. Didn’t regret it.
Comment ID #27727
Can I order mine now? wahaha *_*
Comment ID #27741
Ooh. Looks snazzy.
I might actually buy this. Sure the comics are available on the internet so it’s not really like buying other comics but I’m more interested in the donation side anyways and it’s always to get something too while you give.
Speaking of which, how much money do you guys earn from one purchased book as net worth if you deduct all the losses from it?
Comment ID #27743
Not quite sure yet, but I’d be aiming for $5-10.
It’s kind of sobering when you think that even if we sold a few hundred it wouldn’t be Real Money. Such is the plight of the artist
In terms of “pre-orders”, I’m kind of wondering if I should take advantage of the miserable AUD exchange rate right now - at the moment, US dollars are worth a lot more than they usually are! But the book is two months off at the earliest. I’m getting the design together, but we still have at least two more versions of the book between now and the final one. Also, Veronica basically needs to set enough time to do a chapter’s worth of content to add to it, and that takes time.
Comment ID #27747
Will some of the past insentives be the extras too?
and will there be fan-content in there?
Comment ID #28671
No. I don’t think we’ll use fan content at this stage.
Comment ID #28681
What about the incentives, SuitCase? You dodged the question!
Comment ID #28781
No.
Any space for fanstories/incentive comics will just be used for original content.

OK

ZOMG!
a BOOK!?
YAYY!
Comment ID #68677
…Can we preorder yet?
Comment ID #68678
OMFG YES
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES
Comment ID #68680
We will do preorders when I have the first real proof copy done. That would require Veronica to draw some stuff, and so far she hasn’t drawn anything for it.
Comment ID #68747
After it’s released, we’ll be able to order one at anytime? I don’t think my parents would get me anything ‘till christmas…
Comment ID #68769
That thing is a dictionary!
Comment ID #68771
This and the QC book are going to be the first webcomic-books (and probably the only) ones that I’ll buy.
Feel lucky.
Comment ID #68784
I am soo buying one.
Comment ID #68789
Samantha, sure. We’ll only buy a certain amount to personalise and might run out, but the plain version will always be ready for shipping.
