How do you relate to the BCB characters?

@Jay

Just Googled it. Japanese lessons. Groovy! I’ll check it when I have the time.

@Suitcase

Now, I’d hardly know the honorific if I’m asking would I? Also I couldn’t learn Japanese this year, need to concentrate on French for law school…

Without a shadow of doubt, I relate to Michael. I spent three years in a long distance relationship that was ultimately a big mistake and, hopefully unlike Michael, blew my chances with the girl I grew to like. Her selfish crap left me cynical but not conceited. I’m already conceited, thank you.

And, actually, so much of Michael’s character hits so close to home that he’s the reason I’ve taken a deep enough interest in the comic to post in the forum.

Hmm…
I think I can relate to Amaya, Paulo, and David.
Amaya is the one I relate to the most due to how quiet I am in public. Just with friends? Not so much.
Paulo, because I’m a tad perverted, but nowhere near as perveted as Paulo! If I had to estimate (not sure if I spelled it right…) I’m 69 times more perverted than Paulo. ;P
David, since when I’m just with friends I’m fairly lolrandom, especially if we’re playing Halo 3 or ODST. (Like this time on the 2nd to last level of ODST, when you go through that scanner thing, my friend asked what it was and my brother told him it was some sort of scanner, so when my friend cautiously walked through I lit him on fire and yelled “OMG IT’S A DEATH RAY!”)

The characters and people’s perceptions of them have developed since last month, so this thread should live again. *insert necromancy mumbo-jumbo*

I think McCain is liked because a lot of people at least like to think of themselves as honest jerks; additionally, this is the internet, so that sort of personality is much more appreciated here. Moreover, I think a lot of people simply appreciate honesty as it is so rare. Most people hold back in some way.

Lucy is partially because she is the protagonist, partially because she is a girl, partially because of her emotional stuff, and partially because we can see her point of view so well. Micheal is harder to relate to by many people, I think, because a lot of people online have trouble making real friends, whereas friendship comes pretty easily to Micheal - he gets friends (and people who love him) effortlessly.

I would say that Micheal is in a similar situation to myself in high school, minus being universally beloved, though I wasn’t unpopular by any means, particularly amongst the more intelligent folk (roughly 60 people or so, and probably the most important clique - the nerds won class president vs “the jocks”, though it was something of a joke to begin with, especially given that the so-called jocks were borderline brains themselves) - and given that I seldom interacted with anyone outside of the AP classes, that was really all that mattered as far as I could see. I had a group of girls who liked me, and I didn’t ever ask out any of them, partially due to obliviousness, partially lack of interest, and partially (in senior year) because of liking someone who lived a couple hours away.

Nice-guy Micheal is more like me than his present incarnation, but frankly he really isn’t that much like me simply because he isn’t nearly as much of a nerd and he also is far more passive-aggressive.

Daisy is someone else who is very relatable for me, and really is probably the closest in many ways, even down to acting a bit messed up in order to try and impress someone they liked (I have been told I was a bit creepy back in the day as far as people I was interested in saw, which is very understandable - I’m a strange person, and I was not nearly as mature then as I am now. Also, I was very unused to dealing with real emotion, as for about a decade I was practically emotionless and didn’t dream. Anyway, back to the point…) That said, I have much more of an edge than she does; she’s more generically friendly than I am, as I’m more sarcastic and dark.

I personally relate the most to Mike, because I often find myself in situations like the one he’s in now - but back in high school I was a bit more like Abbey, very strictly moral and chivalrous.

It’s kinda funny how many of you relate to McCain! It’s kinda strange, since he was kind of supposed to fill a niche that none of the BCB characters really did at the time, since it’s very much a comic about emotions and relationships that are hard to explain logically.

I do hope you all have more tact and social intelligence than he does, though.

Abelin’s original post fits me exactly, except I did fall off a cliff….a man-made one anyway at 16’ tall into a 6” deep stream full of rocks while still on my bike. My bike saved me and ended up trashed, yet I only had a small gash on my leg that needed stitches.

wow… im kinda like Lucy, I constantly put up mental barriers around my mind and emotions, at school no-one likes me(unless you count acquaintances, i have two of those…), but i am also like McCain, mainly because my high IQ allows me to know more than anyone could think, and for that i am a social outcast, but i dont bluntly tell people about stuff

Bit of Michael, bit of Lucy.

Long distance relationship, keep mostly to myself and I’m usually happy.
Really competitive and rarely show my emotions.

To be honest though I can associate with most of the characters to at least some degree which is partly why I really like the comic.

honestly i relate most to David.
everything about him reminds me of myself (except for the running fast.)
or at least how i used to be,now that i’m in the army and got 5 people sleeping in a room with me
i figured it’s best to tone it down, not get to friendly with everyone…
people likeing me is just… exhausting…
also him being an only child to a single mother reminds me of myself.
early on i used to hope you’d do more David themed chapter that give him a back story
but i you gently explained to me that that’s a fucking stupid idea, and i figured you were right.

i cant relate to anything about abby !
first of all the tragic past… blah… its hard to explain, but i just fucking hate characters with sad
back stories…
i dunno… it just feels like bad writing… plus,in real life,
everyone suffered SOME tragedy in their life ! real people don’t go around whining about it
and telling everyone. and their lives don’t revolve around it like they do with fictional characters.
y’know what i mean ?

also the way he talk’s and act… he lectures people,he cockblocks people,
he breaks down in tears during a fist fight from a single mention of his father.
i can just go on like this, almost every single thing he’s done annoys me…
he even looks weird…

I find myself a McCain fused with Sue. I say things bluntly and intelligently, but I still enjoy myself and find meanings in things. I also hang out with my friends despite their idiocy.

I’m bringing this back from the dead cause, quite frankly I’m bored. I’m a little like everyone in the comic, but there are a few I associate more so with than others.

At first glance I would appear to be Daisy, just a happy person who doesn’t always catch the hints thrown her way, but surprisingly smart. I also have had my eye on quite a few people who would never like me back, I didn’t fawn over them but that another character entirely.

David would be the second one, cause after you get past my knowledge, I rival a post on common sense sometimes. But this doesn’t stop me from being optimistic and happy. I also try to support my friends which we see in a twisted way that David does for Paulo.

Third would be Abbey,my past in not all sunshine and rainbows no matter what I want people to believe. I become reserved and quiet when it comes to my family and our relationships. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but still Abbey holds a special place in my heart for the fact that what he’s seen his father do makes him want to never turn out like him, and that is something I deeply want to avoid too.

Lastly I would have to relate to Lucy, she has someone she likes but was terrified to tell him because she was afraid of what would happen if she did. In a way they did, she was rejected for a girl that lives hours away. How could she not be mad and upset. This particular thing has never happened to me, but I can understand her fears. And I can’t help but feel like she was partly pushed into this by her friends who only wanted to help. I have had this problem and it’s one of the main reasons I can’t talk to my friends about people I like because I know they will try to play cupid.

Okay I’m done for now, I really need to stop over analyzing myself…

I can’t relate to just one character, but several parts of my personality are attributes of other characters, so here goes.
The way I talk-Abbey or McCain
Sense of humor-Paulo or David
How I act-Mike
Physical abilities-David (not the best, but still great at athletic activities)
Physical appearances and social skill-Zachery (not a cat, but tall, and i wear glasses, AND i have that hair style. Plus I’m socially awkward like him.)
Interests-Surprisingly none of the characters represent my interests.

I’m definitely like Abbey. I have a hard time saying something in plain English; I really must take the longest route to the shortest thought, no matter what. Also, my demeanor shifts from “permanently mellow” to “Hulking out” when I catch someone pulling the kind of crap Augustus was up to, with little room in between moods.

I relate to multiple characters as well: Lucy, Mike and Paulo.

I am generally a happy looking person, and I even fancy a certain girl who lives very far away from here (Mike part), however, seeing how things aren’t really working with this girl as I wanted it to, I’ve resorted to dating many other girls locally, capable of achieving it easily because of my outgoing attitude (Paulo part). But even then, going out doesn’t change the fact that I still like that certain girl, and makes me feel pretty sad, a feeling that I keep to myself most of the time (Lucy part).

So pretty much, you could see me smiling while I’m dying inside. ^_^

i relate more to Lucy and Paulo because they are character, like me, that use a “mask” to hide how they really feel or how they really are. Paulo is usually a jerk, when in fact is a good boy, and Lucy, who is really sensitive, usually show herself as an ice queen (i hope the term is correct…).
Also, i tend to go berserk sometimes, so you guess who else i relate to…
