1st off. As far as I can tell, virtually every death fits the descriptions I mentioned. I have found myself confused before and unable to spot them, but in retrospect something always fits. The better the writing, the harder things are to predict, but they still usually fit. (and by usually I mean that I have only seen it like once, and am mostly just trying to be open so that I will never be too wrong.) This is a story. Everything must happen for a purpose.

I like the getting hit with a bus Idea, but I personally think that the ending will involve a little more of lucy’s strengths as well. I dont like the idea, and dont find it likely to happen, that we will get into another situation where Lucy becomes helpless and Mike must help, as it happens waaaay too much. My personal bet is that an aspect of what you said might come true, but it also ignores a few other important factors that could change this. Notably the gang that is out to get Mike. I except that at some point there will be a situation where Mike is in trouble and Sandy is unable or unwilling to help. I doubt that it will be a complete repeat of what happened before but it may be similar. Perhaps Lucy gets hurt in that fight and then we end up how you theorized?

The one thing that will not happen is MikexSandy happening easily. Everything in writing has a purpose, and when it ends here will have to be a purpose for it and behind it.

Also, perhaps My biggest problem with MikexSandy and PauloxLucy is that that is the way things look right now. Seeing as the comic is hardly over, things are going to have to change. It would be kinda boring if every relationship ended as we have them now.

And for my last rambling: I think that we all know by now that Lucy was originally created by the author long before this comic. Same for Mike, although I believe he came later. I think that the fact that Lucy in particular has a somewhat special role virtually guarantees that she will have a happy ending. If they were the first two, it means that the others came later, and are somewhat separate from whatever the initial existence of Mike and Lucy were. I think that this also makes MikexLucy all he more possible.

Bravo, Darkdrake. I agree with you on many of the points you made. Mike was actually the first character, and then Sue. Lucy was third, but replaced Sue almost on creation.

I said bus because that was the most random thing on my list up there. I believe I also mentioned ‘crossfire of Final Fantasy Cat’s friends plan’ in the list, along with falling out of a tree.

And not always can you fit character deaths in, even in retrospect. One of my favorite books, ‘A Game of Thrones’ by George R.R. Martin, has (spoiler alert, lets see if i can color this right) the main character, the pivotal man throughout the entire book, get his head chopped off in front of his two daughters, when he was supposed to be spared. How does that make sense?. I hope that works right.

Anywho.

I was never quite sure about Daisy/Abby. Daisy/Final Fantasy Cat could have had a good run, and taught Daisy some things about herself and life.

Having never read the book, I cannot make a definitive statement, but I suspect that his death took place either to showcase a particular side of another character, or provide an end at the end of his development. There must have been a reason, there always is. Characters can always die, they just have to develop first.

For that one character, okay, there may have been a reason. But was there a reason to kill the new main character off two books later? I don’t think so. That death doesn’t do anything that you just said.

To try and stay on topic, I honestly thought Daisy and Final Fantasy Cat were going to have a run at it. He would have made her feel more self confident, but at the same time neatly ostracize her from her group of friends, and probably urge her to do more with the cheerleaders. That’s what I think at least.

well, there was much interference from other interested parties (abe) which stopped that from happening. That was a possibility, but I guess it is just not the direction that daisy’s character was suppose to go in

I don’t know how the original incarnations of Lucy and Mike will effect the comic now. If you read the history in the extras section you’ll see it was about a 7 year old Lucy flirting with a 14 year old Mike. Maybe the second incarnation might be more relevant…

I checked the extras section, so I was kinda going off of that relationship there. Im not saying that any of this is meant to be a literal copy of the original incarnation, just that the dynamic that was shown (it was said that Lucy aged to the point where they were both about the same) might herald how the dynamic in the comic might end

OK, I might step on a few toes here, but bare with me. I expect the series to eventually come to the claimax where either Mike gets the choice to go live with/near Sandy and probably never see Lucy or his other friends again, or stay and break things off with Sandy forever, there is now way that is going to happen untill things get (almost?) fixed beteewn Mike and Lucy.
I did expect the fight to happen, I mean what did Lucy expect? Mike is in a serious relationship (albiet a long distance one) and there’s no way he would just give all that up at the drop of a hat (and even if he did, it would make Lucy better, but it would be an out of caractor slimeball move for Mike to make). What I didn’t expenct was for her to run to Paulo.

I wonder how the pets are going to react to this?

I’m not sure how I feel about Paulo… he was made up to be kind of an ass in the beginning. I will really have trouble accepting him as a possible option for Lucy

@random fan: Remember, Paulo has always been there for Lucy when she has needed someone. He saved her and Michael from drowning, he took care of her after Mike fell into the river in Acapulco, he was there to support her when they had a fight, and generally he has been supportive all the way (despite all his advances). And that’s something girls appreciate, once we notice it. ^_^

And remember, Paulo had recently shown her that he could be, well, mushy and caring.

In my opinion, Paulo is a lot deeper than people give him credit for. He puts on a psuedo-false personality around people, an easy-going type who is just looking for fun and maybe a roll in the hay. But not to far under that is a caring guy with a sense of chivalry and impressive self-control.

That being said, I get the feel of a more big brother/little sister relationship here. Plus, Lucy doesn’t really want Paulo in a relationship way. Yeah, she kind of threw herself at him, but I think that was more out of a need to feel wanted and desirable than out of any real feelings. And, she knows in the back of her head that Paulo has a thing for Tess. At least, if she remembers what she walked into back during summer vacation she knows.

I will now bring my masculinity down a few degrees by using a Glee example.

If anyone other than Kaxbe and Blaze have seen the series, you will know that Rachael; the female protagonist jumps from one guy to the next. In season 1, she wants Finn who’s in a relationship with the head cheerleader. When they break up in season 2, she immediately gropes him and forces him to date her. When he tells her to sod off, she hooks up with the other team’s lead singer/stiffest piano player in the world, all in the one episode.
Lucy knows seems to be doing the exact same.

Now that I said this, I’m going to watch some stupid sport on the net for 5 minutes until my masculinity comes back…

Can you really blame her? The one person that she loves, who has also been her only real friend for years, said he didn’t love her.Plus,it’s hard to break old habits. In the recoil from that stinging blow, she needed to find someone similar to latch onto.

But you got to admit, Lucy really put Mike into a no win situation and expected him to break the morals she probably admires.

It seems to me like you guys are just trying to reaffirm yourselves in your belief that Mike and Lucy will end up together. Like, you’re not sure it will actually happen, so you push for it to overcome the doubt that is creeping into your hearts that Paulo and Lucy will be together, and she’ll be happy for it. After all, Daisy confessed to Mike. What happened? Oh, she got together with Abby. Lucy confessed to Mike. What’s happening? Oh, she’s getting buddy buddy with Paulo. Who was also her first crush. Hmmmmmm.

@Juliet: If you actually read this, most people do just want to assure themselves that MikexLucy will happen but others are rather taking a neutral standpoint to the relationships and discussing what they think will happen.

Personally though I’ve already admitted this, I’m a MikexLucy fan as well but I don’t allow it to effect what I look at in the story, from what the latest pages have seemed to show at least to me, Lucy felt hurt from Mike’s rejection though it was completely understandable that he did so, he then proceeded to hurt her feelings further afterward when he openly told her that he considered her a chore and that he didnt want to deal with her, Lucy went to Paulo for support and he provided just as he did before and Lucy has developed a crush on Paulo for it.

So the aspect of a PauloxLucy relationship is very possible and I wouldn’t be disappointing from it happening, but if your going to accuse other people of only trying to reaffirm themselves, you might want to stop doing it yourself, or if im mistaken at least choose your words more carefully as that is what it appears you are doing.

Also on the note of everyone who has been wondering what sue was referring to when she mentioned she had seen Sandy before, though the specifics weren’t revealed, Taeshi already said that it wasn’t anything negative, she was just recalling that she had seen her somewhere before (though it is understandable from Sue’s expression why people would assume this)

Hey, Maybe Sue recognized her because “she has had some success as a model” as stated in the character info page

Just from everything that’s happened so far in the comic, it’s really, glaringly obvious that Mike and Lucy get together in the end. Despite this, I still support MikeXSandy, and will continue to do so until they inevitably break up… *sigh*

Knowing what has happened, we can’t ignore Sue’s comment just yet.
It could hint a future event.
Anyways, the rest of the series hasn’t been set in stone except for the major plots.
So Taeshi MIGHT (not likely) change a few things.

@Juliet: It’s a natural thing for readers to do speculate and theorize. Nothing wrong with it. And frankly, I’d wager upwards of 90% (outta my arse number, but it’s gotta be up there) of the readers want Lucy/Mike.

Now, if Lucy should wind up settling down with someone else, be it Paulo, David, Final Fantasy Cat, Jessica (meh, why not) or any other number of characters, so long as she’s happy, I’ll be content, as will most of us in the end.

@Ved of Flames: I’m a bit lost on your comment, do you mean to say that the Lucy/Mike/Sandy drama is not a major plot and isn’t likely to be changed, or the other way around.

I must say, once again, that I think people are reading too much into Lucy and Paulo. Just because Lucy is bring more friendly to him then she was before does not mean that she is necessarily falling for him. Sheesh, I doubt Lucy wants to get into another relationship at this moment, and Paulo is confused enough as is.

Oh, and from now on, Im totally shipping Lucy and Jessica. Because I can. (can someone please tell me where this Jessica stuff came up anyhow cuz I cant find it)

Well, it is quite obvious that Lucy has a crush on Paulo but it is not certain that they will end up together.

Lucy could be wanting another relationship, though - she seems confused, and after the rejection she has been hanging on to Paulo. Whether she really wants a boyfriend, or this is a “backlash”, we’ll have to see.

The Jessica and Lucy pairing came as a random thought I had when I remembered Taeshi’s chart. And now that Sue forced Lucy to take part in the play, Jessica would see a lot more of Lucy. I thought that if she confessed to Lucy at the peak of all the drama to come, then it would either add a whole new level or be really comic.

Also, am I the only one who doesn’t want to see Mike and Lucy get together…or anyone from the main cast? Lucy pretty clearly has abandonment and dependency issues, and I don’t think she’ll never get over either of them if she gets with someone in the main cast, especially Mike.

She needs to figure out how to be happy with herself, and being by herself.

I was referring specifically to #2 when it comes to the Tenchi series that makes me want to punch someone. I had forgotten there were three options.

Clearly I am advocating something along the lines of #3 with regards to Lucy, which is the polar opposite.

I think maybe they need to split up the trope.

Hmm… And call it what? I think that if #3 were to happen it’ll be choosing Completely Outside the Harem. Though I’d say Mike is more likely to do that than Lucy.

On another side, what is so bad about #2? I mean I’ve never seen Tenchi, but it looks like a comedy, so wouldn’t that ideal be funny?

I agree. The Lucy/Paolo thing looks more like just a really good friendship now. Especially judging from Lucy’s reaction to waking up next to him. If she was really looking for a relationship waking up next to him wouldn’t elicit that response, even if it did come as a surprise.

@Jay The First: Well actually anyone especially Lucy would react that way after waking up next to someone they know finds them attractive after being in a desperate state, friend or not. It could frankly be either way though, Lucy does seem to have a crush on Paulo for now which makes sense considering how supportive hes been, but it could also just be a really close friendship and we are all just being lead along like sheep by Taeshi. Baaaaaaaaaa :3

I understand what you’re saying, but I just don’t see the deeper connection. It looks more like Lucy began to become clingy to Paulo, but seems to have backed off just a tad, and has just become content to be around a friend she knows won’t hurt her. I just don’t really see any signs of a serious crush. Even her blushing when she looks at him could be explained away as the side effect of discomfort over finally trusting someone other than Mike for once.

And I’m quite sure that somewhere on this planet earth, sitting behind a glowing monitor in a darkened room, a cluttered desk full of papers and pencils before her, our wicked story teller Taeshi is laughing evilly at our theorizing, knowing she now has us forever trapped in her web of drama.
