Who reads BCB?

So we have a web-comic about teenage romance... a silly thing for teenage girls right? Given I’m a dude in his 20’s this is clearly not the case! So I’m curious on the make up of this comics readership.

Reader Age and Gender

Might as well put the forum to use ehn?

19 and male. Found a link from another comic, the name of which slips my mind at the moment, and I’m… sort of a sucker for a good drama.

It’s a little early yet in the polls, but there’s already a bit of a trend, isn’t there? :B

I couldn’t help but smile at the results of the gender poll.

Yep. This is a girly-ish drama comic. One that dudes read. You know what? I’m going to the shooting range tomorrow, I need to reaffirm my masculinity. ;_;

“real men” are not afraid to not look feminine because they are so confident in their masculinity they dont care what anyone else thinks

Attention female readers: Do not be intimidated by the fact that we are all men so far in this thread with the exception of Taeshi. Though I cannot speak for the others, I promise that I will not post anything crude or offensive within the sacred walls that is this website.

Wait a minute, am I the only one to vote “female” so far?

I’m nearly 20. Seems I wasn’t an anomaly there, at least. But I doubt we can expect many readers below 11 years of age…

i get an error when i click the results link, does it work for others?

! April 10, 2010, 5:21 PM EST.

Comment ID #3274

lack of females probably involves medium, not content. Perhaps its just the fact that more guys seem to read webcomics then girls.

Darkdrake April 10, 2010, 5:24 PM EST.

Comment ID #3277

That’s probably true mate. Though it is pretty funny actually, in an eerie manner.

17 male by the way

Pronkat April 10, 2010, 5:34 PM EST.

Comment ID #3279

There are no girls on the internet.

But look at this! By my (methodical, boring) count, there’s 23-32 girls there as a rough estimate. If that is representative of our reader demographic, that’s maybe a third female, two thirds male.

Maybe clicking the “Forum” link is a masculine thing? Maybe girls aren’t good with computer so they don’t know how to use a forum. These are my reasoned suppositions.

SuitCase April 10, 2010, 5:38 PM EST.

Comment ID #3294

If there are any other girls on the Internet, they’re good at hiding.

I guess I’m one of the few that actually knows that pushing buttons with a fitting label tends to yield results. Hey, look, I can even italicise my posts. ^_^

19, male, not afraid to pick up the occasional manga shojo.
There’s a joke amongst my friends and I. There is a girl on the internet. She spends most of her time cowering in the corner, afraid to be noticed by the hordes of lonely single guys.
There’s also a saying:
“The internet: where men are boys, women are men, and 14-year-old girls are FBI agents.”

waffle911 April 11, 2010, 7:11 AM EST.

Comment ID #3629

I’ve met a grandmother on the Internet. That was… strange, and incredibly fun. And yes, I know for certain that she was a grandmother, and not an FBI agent. ^_^

@Gabriel: I can even make a link out of it. :p

Though my grasp of HTML actually stops there. I’m more used to BBCode.

ILB April 11, 2010, 3:30 PM EST.

Comment ID #3654

WTF? Why are there 33 guys and 1 girl in the poll??! LOL!

Interesting statistics… You’re probably right about the girls ‘hiding’ ILB.

Nevertheless I seriously thought there were a lot more girls reading this!! Thanks for the awesome forum and poll feature Suitcase and of course thanks for the brilliant comics as always Taeshilh - I find the icon pics cute! ^_^

Damn you, Fruits Basket, for getting me semi-into this shoujo-ish material! DAAAAMN YOUUUUUUUU!!! (But i got me a girlfriend out of that [or so i like to think, lolz] so it ain’t all bad i guess.)

DavCube April 12, 2010, 1:24 PM EST.

Comment ID #3889

Yeah polls can be unreliable things. But I think we have a good idea of the general age of the posters here at least:late teens, early 20’s. I guess the girl posters are simply more interested in the individual comic posting threads, rather then the Misc stuff going on here in the forum? There’s countless possible explanations for it, but it’s a fair guess that the comics readership isn’t 99% male.

At least I don’t need to feel silly for being a guy reading a comic about romance hahaha.

I think I came over here from an ad on Red String.

With Lucy Holding books saying “I’m not carrying these because I like you or anything!”
Then a cheesy selection of what to do… 1. Walk her Home 2. Confess your Love 3. Punch her in the mouth.
Then it has Mike sitting at the computer.
