…Yes, but I rather think you’re wrong. A train without a rail is, well, a regular vehicle. It is quite possible to drive on rails, in fact, it’ll only help you get somewhere faster. ^_^
Perhaps “off-tracking” is a better term in the context. Drive a car on a street, it’s all fine, but run it off a road, down a steep cliff and into the water…

*sigh* The only tangent to a topicless conversation is a topic-based conversation.
Imagine light as a “topic-based” conversation. Different colors of light represent different topics. Darkness represents the random chat. No light, no topic. Now, any light, regardless of color, represents a topic, regardless of subject matter. Adding light to a dark room is like adding a coherent topic to the random chat. Does that make sense?
Also, I like how our new topic is topics themselves! xD

The fact that I just watched “Red Dawn” puts this in a funnier context. SheenxSwayze.

Oh god.
We have bishie sparkles now.

@Icaras: True. The opposite of topicless conversation is topical conversation, but consider this: The Random Chat is not topicless. It’s like heat; you have (for instance) 40 degrees Celsius, which is quite warm (topical, a very bad pun ^_^), then there’s 0 degrees Celsius (random chatting). But we haven’t reached absolute zero - that’s not before -273.15 degrees Celsius.
Now, using that image, we know that the Random Chat is far from topicless. Rather, the topic is changing - but we have certain anchor points. Not even absurdist conversation (people talking at each other, but not to each other) is absolute zero; they have bonds that they follow. Now imagine the Random Chat. We talk about different things, but ninety per cent of the time we follow up on an already existing topic. It is not without a topic; actually, it is far from being nontopical. A thread in which we discuss something very tangible is not its opposite, they are different points on the same scale.
Therefore, we can derail the random chatting (removing some of the heat, if you will). By posting each new reply with a new topic, we loosen our ties to the theme - this has happened - though, of course, it is entirely impossible to have a nontopical conversation.
So there. ^_^

@ILB: tl;dr
If you want to have a debate about something with just the two of you wouldn’t it be easier to take it onto some sort of an instant messenger system instead?
Comment ID #38867
@Jerk: You only missed “re. ^_^”, then.
@Pixel: We could, but… well, I don’t use them.
Comment ID #38868
@ ILB: Well, conventional derailing doesn’t make a huge impact on the metaphorical thermometer (like mini-derailings for mini-topics), but this constant changing of topics is the thread, is the topic. So to derail the topic of frequent derailings, you must stick to a topic for an indefinite amount of time (hit the metaphorical “boiling point” and stay there). Sure, you can conventionally derail the mini-topics within the thread, but you’re still not derailing the whole thread.
So there.

Hey, I got skills.
…
Not quite sure what they are yet, but…
Comment ID #38873
@Icaras: Well, yes and no. You’re derailing the whole thread if you break the limits such a thread must set for itself. We’re derailing this thread by posting only one or two posts outside of the topic (you can’t derail a train just a little, either it’s on the tracks or off them). Sure, a complete derail won’t ever be in question, but neither is the case for topics like… this one, for instance.
But shall we take the discussion elsewhere? ^_^ I think the others are going slightly mad at us.

Oh and not to nitpick or anything, but I probably should point out for the sake of future reference that the badge on the beret is actually located over the right eye.
The German military does keep theirs over the right temple though so technically Lisa was still correct though the country was just a bit wrong ;P

Jerk, I just want to say how impressed I was with “Toasty’ll take care of that marmalade” - nice triple meaning, even if I suspect it was unintentional. ![]()
…That is all. Carry on.

@ Yappy: Because admitting that I made a triple entendre would open a whole new possible realm of horrors.

Oh man, it’s so true.
I’m doodling.

Dang, now I need an avatar too.
I’d try materialising as McCain - I loved playing him in Murder Mystery 1 - but the downside would be Matrixx having absolute control over me. Which is scary. ![]()

Comment ID #40190
Yah, there’s a skype group. I’m Ace (of course) on there, and… I think I can get you into the chat…
Oh, and Pixel, when yer on again I made a something. Not using it as an avatar in skype but it’s in the draw yourself thread
Comment ID #40197
Much appreciated, Ace. Cheers!
I might leave it for just a week or two to clear the work I’m bogged down in at the moment, but I’ll be sure to check-in then. Incidentally, you must have been a pretty early user of Skype to get a username as short as Ace. Impressive!
Comment ID #40200
uhm. RIght. Full username.
That would be Ace4232.
ehehehe. I’m so used to using ace… well whatever it’s here on internet paper, sorry.
Oh, and jack_stripes is for Ved. He’s on alot and I don’t think he’d care that I gave out his username.
Comment ID #40205
I believed I have given out my user name plenty of times.
So it’s alright.
Comment ID #40207
Ah. Cheers nonetheless. Hope you don’t mind me holding off for a bit - but talking in person to BCB folks would probably distract me from, well, everything.
Thanks again.

I’m referring to derailing a thread that had no rails to begin with. If “derailing” a conventional thread is to draw it off-topic, in order to “derail” a non-railed thread (the rails being randomness), you’d have to focus on one specific topic (“railing” a thread with no rails), thus derailing it off the topic of randomness.
…
…
Now, didja get all that?
