My family has only had dogs since I was about two, when our cat ran away, so I find dogs to be really fun. Especially if they’re really big, like my friend’s dog (named Ruger) which is taller than me when it stands on it’s back legs. I used to be scared to death by dogs, after my uncle’s dog tore off a chunk of skin from the underside of my knee, but they trained Ruger so well that he is incredibly calm and helped me get over my fear.

But to be honest I prefer cats. All of my friends have cats, and all of them seem really calm and just chill around me. Every time I go to a friend’s house that has cats, their cats love to just hang out around us while we play games, and occasionally brush up against me and I can’t help but pet them cause they’re so adorable.

I know what you mean about cats mate. :) We used to have dogs when I was a kid. Two bitches; Azúcar and Vainilla, until they were stolen. I think I became afraid of dogs when my brother’s Godmother’s dog bit my ankle or sowt like that. My worst memory of a dog was my Granduncle’s (which was as much of a bastard a him). He tried to chew a kitty my brother and I were petting in front of us. That poor kitty was accidentally killed by my Grandaunt a few days later. So yeah I hate dogs…

@evaco

Sorry to hear the bro.

I prefer Dogs than cats. I like it when pets actually listen to their owner. Sure cats do that, but all cats I saw so far doesn’t listen unless you say “food” or something relevant to that.
Also, I love cats, they are cute, but the thing is they just aren’t huggable.

my like-o-meter:
small dogs

I like both, but I think I prefer cats.
My problem is either they are too loud or they try to lick your face every chance they get.
The claws are a problem on cats, but I can get around that.

:P

So many Dog haters, yeesh.

Honestly, I like ‘em equally. Both have their ups and downs.

Cats are silent, and on occasion friendly, but they have a tendency to go off on their own. However, they are very ninja, or at Sugar was. Every time I had a pepperoni roll I had to always have my eyes on it, or it would be gone. |D He was sweet, though I never knew why he liked to hide behind doors, poor doofus always got whacked. We never knew he was there. And he apparently never figured out that hiding behind doors was a bad idea. |D

Dogs are loud, however, I have two large dogs, one is obnoxious, but the other is very silent, unless there’s someone outside, then he barks a few times, but not much. To be honest, I had a fear of dogs, but that left when I got Brady. Very sweet dog, but will beg and beg and beg. My other one, Max, will just sit and give ya the “puppy” eyes. He doesn’t have to do a thing, he’s just patient. He’s a sweetie, never bites. No, seriously, I even tried to tease as much as possible, nothing vicious, though, I’m not mean, just teasing. Ya know what he did? He freakin’ tackled me. |D

:B I’ve always done well with pets.

@Ved of Flames

He’s a German-Shepherd/Rottweiler mix. He’s got one heck of a chest. And the sweetest personality. Basically a very gentle giant. Except when he wants to play, of course. XD

Funny thing is that I weigh around 240 pounds, so he’s rather strong. He’d never bite . He will gnaw your hands though. And your shoes if ya leave ‘em laying around. Actually, make that anything. He’s not picky. |D

Actually, here’s an interesting story: He’s an adopted stray. We were rather surprised at how friendly he was. He let us pet him! Very strange for a stray. To be honest, we weren’t going to keep him, but, when we heard he was going to be put down because he had hip dysplaxia (uh, not too sure about that spelling, but its a malformation of the hips (basically, they didn’t grow properly and are weaker as a result)). Although, once my mom heard that, it didn’t take her long to decide to keep him. We’ve had him for a year now, and he’s grown into one big dog.

On that subject, should a friend of ours come in, he will come up and paw them till they pet him. He’s really sweet despite his size. ^^

I noticed that the larger the dog, the less likely that dog is loud and obnoxious. My dog barks alot, but that is only when she hears someone outside. I’m not too surprised that people are scared of dogs, I got bitten by many, many dogs, but the key is to just show who is boss, then they’ll listen. Some dogs actually just won’t give a shit who is a boss or not, they’ll just still love you and want that person to pet them XD (I trained my dog, so when you spread your arms out and say “hug” she jumps up and actually “hugs” you XD)

My dogs helped many people get over the fear of dogs, some actually adopted a dog because they ended up loving them :3

my opinion about first time dog owners: Do not buy, adopt them poor animals. Some of those poor creatures will be put to sleep the next day. Also, Don’t get a puppy, if it is the first time you’re getting a dog,puppy is a one of the worst way to go. They’ll chew, piss, crap on everything you got. Get a medium or a large dog, if you don’t want to deal with bunch of yapping everyday. Even small dogs can be silent, but it is very less likely, it is also harder to train small dogs because of their size.

sry, I just had to let that out XD

@Cyo
so is that your very first dog?

I like cats, as long as they aren’t ours. Our cats have been pests, really. But I have nothing against other cats.

Usually, I’ve preferred dogs because they are more lively and don’t look like they’re going to take over the world when they find a way to create canned foods of their own. But I also think dogs can be noisy and, at times, dangerously playful. So I can’t really decide between cats and dogs.

Instead, I like foxes. They’ve got the best from both worlds ^_^

Brady was my first dog, Max I got only recently.

And yes, he was a pup. :P Friendly all the way. Of course, my parents have had a lot of experience with pets, both cats and dogs, so it wasn’t that bad.

Small dogs are the noisest of all. Yeesh.

And yes, adopt a dog. Just be careful of which you adopt.

My dad has a lot of experience with dogs. He had many, Príncipe was his favourite. He says him and my granddad treated him like a member of the family and even operated him once (my granddad was a surgeon). I met Príncipe on his final years. Now that I think about it, I think he’s the only dog that I wasn’t afraid off.

I don’t really know why I’m the only one in my family with fear of the canines. I mean my brother nearly got his nose bitten off by this Husky my uncle brought and he’s fine with ‘em…

Cats are fun for like a year but after that they are nothing more then a huge brick that sits on your favourite chair and nothing more.
Dogs are way more badass and can actuall keep you entertained for most of your life even when there old (my dogs like 8 and still faster than my 18 year old brother)
Besides who would win in a fight a something that can chew through flesh or something that cant be assed to get off my chair?

I prefer both; and every time I think I prefer one over the other, the other animal creeps up into my mind staring at me with those adorable eyes and I am once again conflicted.

I have, however, raised two dogs and zero cats in my life, making me more of a dog person if we’re going by experience.

Depends on the day really, if its been a long stressful day, a cat is the only solution. While on the other hand, a dog can really make a boring, sluggish day end on a good note.

*The pet store was one of the few places where this rare creature could be found, and only if you looked very carefully. The Ninja is one of those people who look very carefully. Having infiltrated the building, he immediately heads to the reptile section to find this incredible creature with which he feels such an incredible kinship.*

Chameleons all the way! They are quiet, sneaky, and help eliminate any bugs that get inside. Plus it is so fun to watch them eat. DON’T JUDGE THIS NINJA!!!

I have neither. My brother is frightened of dogs, even into his mid 20’s, for reasons no one in the family knows, so I grew up petless. I wouldn’t mind a cat, but I prefer dogs, but only if the dog at least goes up to my knee. I can’t stand anklebiters. Ideally, I’d have a husky, great dane, or english mastiff.

It’s really hard, I like Cats when I want something cute and fuzzy to pet, and I like dogs when I feel like a need a big friend to hug (I’m not a fan of small dogs, just medium and big sized ones, I like Boxers and Labs).

But all in all, in the long run I prefer dogs simply because you can usually make a stronger bond, as cats are more independent.

I really do like cats though, so it’s a hard choice.

Dogs, although I’ve only had dogs as pets, but cats are good too. Both of my dogs, both American Bulldogs, one died, and one’s a puppy. Both love people, are full of energy, have never attacked anyone, and make great family pets. My friends have cats and my dad is taking care of some stray kittens outside his work and they seem like great pets too.

for those saying that dogs smell — THAT IS WHY YOU WASH YOUR DOG.
for those saying that dogs bite/slobber/lick — THAT IS WHY YOU TRAIN YOUR DOG.

Although I like them both equally, cats are no different. They also smell really bad, leave their fur everywhere and scratch every piece of furniture in sight.

Dogs are easier to be trained, though. If you’ve seen a dog that bites and licks you, then, well, the owner’s just ignorant. It’s not the dog’s fault.

Man, why do you Americans (presumably) hate on small dogs? ;_;
Small dogs are nice… they’re not as slobbery/destructive, and they’re definitely easier to manage in terms of taking care of them and cost compared to large dogs.

I mean, I love dogs of all sizes but sheesh, no one loves dogs when they become the size of a cat… nothing wrong with that. They’re just as lovable and badass as large dogs.
