Viken is the first person I’ve ever seen who did not know who Charlie Brown is, he’s about as recognizable as Mario, Bugs Bunny, or Mickey Mouse.

CaptainBaconMan April 26, 2010, 9:34 PM EST.

You really don’t see Bugs Bunny, Mickey Mouse or Charlie Brown anymore except on holidays and in parodies.

Jerk April 26, 2010, 9:39 PM EST.

Yeah, I miss the days when cartoons were entertaining. None of that educational crap, just wacky, over the top, occasionally adult-oriented jokes that as a kid I just laughed at even if I didn’t get ‘em at the time. Now it’s all that “BFF” bullcrap that doesn’t even exist. Damn you PC!

I hate the PC era.

This thread is now about our like/dislike of political correctness.

Ugh… That reminds me… How the hell is Spongebob still running strong but you can’t find even one show of Looney Toons or Tom and Jerry?

Archimantis April 26, 2010, 10:11 PM EST.

Spongebob has sold out man. It’s become one of the shows that is neither educational nor too risqué so it’s fine for tv. I miss even the stupid cartoons like Johnny Bravo. I mean they were complaining that he turned boys sexist. But who in the bloody hell would want to be Johnny. I mean he never got any girls!

Pronkat April 26, 2010, 10:24 PM EST.

Comment ID #9019

One of the things I loved about Johnny Bravo were the later episodes. Those were the ones with the more obscure celebrity cameos.

Gabriel Kaxbe April 26, 2010, 10:58 PM EST.

Comment ID #9020

Johnny Bravo didn’t turn boys sexist.

Puberty did.

ZING!

Dexter’s Lab and Ed, Edd, and Eddy will forever remain in my heart as the two greatest cartoons ever.

And you can still find Loony Tunes and Tom and Jerry on cartoon network on Sundays, or really really early in the morning.

CaptainBaconMan April 26, 2010, 11:07 PM EST.

In a way, Spongebob is much more violent than it usually was.
The Disney cartoon Phineas&Ferb is also decent with it’s dual plot episodes.
Boy I wish the cartoon channels would just stick to cartoons, way too many “human” shows.

Ved of Flames April 26, 2010, 11:17 PM EST.

Comment ID #9026

I agree, Ved. I miss the olden days when cartoons were just… cartoons… Back when the characters knew they could get away with anything. Back when you didn’t fall if you didn’t know that there wasn’t anything underneath you…

Speaking of those days, the tribute video game “Epic Mickey” should be coming out sometime this year, I believe.

Powerpuff Girls, The Beat-alls episode, for the WIN! :D

That’s the best one~!

I hate Tom and Jerry now, I used to really love over the top violence until i began rooting for Tom and always getting disappointed. I can’t watch the show anymore because of that, not to say that I wouldn’t allow my kids to watch it. It can be hilarious, I’m just a sore loser :-[

funny how boring shows are now. Shows like Chowder got nothing compared to like.. Rocko’s Modern Life or Angry Beavers.

EVERYTHING NOW IS SO TAME

Taeshi April 27, 2010, 12:11 AM EST.

True that, I miss the angry beavers.

Stupid PC government.

Has anyone ever pointed out “Lucy=Toodles Galore”, cause I feel now would be the opportune time if it hasn’t already.

Quacksalver April 27, 2010, 12:23 AM EST.

One time when I was a kid, Cartoon Network aired the World War 2-era racist Bugs Bunny episode. I haven’t been able to look at him the same way since. ;-; BAWWWW

Rocko’s Modern Life kicked so very much ass.

PC SUX MAC IS THE WAY TO GOHURHURHUR

FFFFFFFFFFFF, I hated that show so much. I hated nicktoons so much. I hated fart jokes, and that’s pretty much what nickelodeon was about then.

Cartoon Network ftw.

And @Jerk, don’t know if you’re joking around but they mean Politically Correct, not Personal Computer.

CaptainBaconMan April 27, 2010, 2:35 AM EST.

Tom and Jerry FTW
nothings better than overly violent cartoons.

Viken April 27, 2010, 4:58 PM EST.

Comment ID #9388

But it wasn’t just the violence. It was those odd jokes that you wouldn’t be able to understand for a few years yet you somehow still found funny. I mean if you watch the old ones now, you find out a hell of a lot more than you did. There were jokes about questionable sexuality (Looney Toons, Tom and Jerry), polar depression, homicide, suicide and schizophrenia (Animaniacs), go back further and they all were smoking or drinking or some other trip (Pink Panther). There was racism, sexism and “New Math” (Peanuts). They showed the darker side of contemporary society hidden in those colourful images. And no-one came out being a nutter from watching them.

Now they are completely out of touch with reality. They talk about crap like everlasting friendship, (because that shit really exists, especially in this material age) being true to yourself and everyone will love you (especially those bullies that drive people to suicide) and good will always always triumph over evil not matter what (yet thanks to some wanker of a banker your dad is now out of a job while he enjoys a 3 week luxurious holiday in Cuba). The fights are muddled with this crap ideologies, and there’s no plot (why need it when you can make a long pointless speech?). Cartoons are wishy-washy pieces of crap that give no kids a sense of reality. They really have become an escapade from reality, but in an awful way…

I know right, Ed,Edd, and Eddy was the best show on cartoon network.Hell,it was the one of the ONLY shows I would mainly watch. Some others were johnny bravo, ppg, courage the cowardly dog FTW!, and Pokemon. That was the good stuff. Now they have bullsh@t stuff like johnny test(ripoff I say),and a lot of crap thats not even cartoons! That just doesn’t make sence! I would want my kids to watch sumethin funny not how to destroy a god damn house! It would make me afraid to leave them alone for a nano-second.

this is the main reasion i turned to anime.

Viken April 28, 2010, 7:17 PM EST.

Comment ID #9867

Ooooookaaay. Once someone mentions anime in this “NSFW” tagged thread, I’m afraid it’ll go back to unmentionable stuff.

This thread is now about educational television.

What do you think about the new reboot of the classic show “The Electric Company”?

You know, when I got onto this topic, I thought that was where came those BSCB drawings that I saw on Fchan…

……….Nevermind ^w^;;;

@Gabriel Kaxbe

Haven’t seen it. You now we could talk about anime without going to the extremes. For example I could tell you some stuff that Jonathan Clemments told us (the man who brought anime to the British Isles, most of Europe and a large volumes which would otherwise be unavailable in the States). You can discuss adult anime without talking about hentai (there are other kinds you know XD). Also, unless it’s documentaries or Jamie Oliver teaching people to cook, I hate educational programming.

Pronkat April 28, 2010, 8:33 PM EST.

Comment ID #9897

Hahahaha. I know. It was a joke. In all honesty, I was curious who has seen it. I love the reboot. I love the music (just like in the original series~!) and the characters (Hahahahaha Manny Spamboni and Annie Scrambler).
