Weapon of choice?

So I made this thread because… I dunno, I was curious and bored, and thought this would be fun.

If you were a character from a work of fiction (videogame, movie, anime, you name it), what would you use as a weapon?

Anything is valid, yes even overpowered BS like the BFG. You just have to state the reasons why you would like to be a master of that kind of weapon.

Personally, I prefer heavy blunt weapons, such as hammers or maces. The reason for that is that… well, hammers are quite heavy, one hit from one and you’re pretty much out of the fight. Besides, they are not really guardable, a direct hit would make the opponent lose balance easily, not to mention damage any armor he might be wearing.

So pretty much… my opponent can either go light and attempt to dodge me, but if I hit he’s done; or wear a heavy armor and take every hit.

(Besides… not many people use hammers or maces x3)

Weapon of choice: Sledgehammer.

I’m a complete weeaboo when it comes to weapons, tell me all the facts you want that european swords ere of better quality and were overall better weapons than a katana, I’ll still go for it. I have four in my room, two wooden practice ones, and two metal decorative ones. I know how to use them too.

Wrist mounted claws.
Fast, quick strikes, quite precise as well. The problem is they need to be made very well or they have a tendency to.. break. Still, amazing.

I wouldn’t use them but I know someone who has actual swordchucks, and knows how to use them without killing himself.

Hmm…. maybe an axe like this one, and a large shield like Aegis, and a longbow for distance killing. Call it old fashioned, but hey, it works for me.

I would have been disappointed if the first reply had anything other than Cristopher Walken in it.

Glad to see Bribri was on the ball.

My weapon of choice? Well, knives fit me best. And I’m Filipino. So possibly the Balisong, or butterfly knife. I already know how to use them somewhat well. Though, I’d probably prefer to use several of them hidden all over my body. Of course, if we were allowed to choose a second backup weapon, I’d have to choose some sort of handgun.

Gabriel Kaxbe June 10, 2010, 9:24 PM EST.

Comment ID #42233

I wouldn’t use a weapon. I’d simply smile broadly at the opponent. ^_^

@Miw: Weren’t they more or less equal on average? I mean, the only thing you could do with a European sword was a decisive thrust or cut, but a really decisive one. While a katana could be used more easily, and more importantly, more quickly. Besides, European swords were often made of poor metal. There are several accounts of people bending the sword back into shape with their foot. ^_^

A shoulder mounted mini rapid firing roman scorpion siege machine.

Its basically a ballista (A f****ing huge crossbow) But is more accurate and more mobile. rapid firing allows easy siege of any building or room, mini so it would fit on my shoulder (not predator small, it engulfs my entire arm). Also the bolts will be explosive, or ignite on contact, would have to be tipped with phosphorus though, and filled with oil.

The reason i want this is because I have one in D&D and its beast, it can kill 6 people in a round, without magic.

I frown upon the more complex choices, to be honest. Not because I’m an elitist or anything, but there’s not a lot of room left for originality in weapons and I just think there’s a vast untapped beauty in simplicity. That said, I choose an old but sturdy bolt-action rifle. One that did not out-live its previous user in battle.

Realistic
Melee
Ridiculous

And before you start calling me out for being such a geek with the melee option, know that spring-loaded wrist daggers existed before assassins creed made them popular.

Also, giant robots are sort of a guilty pleasure of mine. Always loved them as a kid, hence ridiculous option.

Well, my WEAPONS of choice would have to be my left fist, and my right fist…

Anyone can swing a sword or shoot a gun to kill something, but the challange of killing it with your hands alone…

@ILB: Katanas were atmittedly made with more skill, but while a european blade may bend, under the same stress the katana would shatter. They just couldn’t find the same quality steel in Japan. Think about it though, knights had very strong metal armours and their swords were made to penetrate this, the asians had wooden or leather armours and the katana could get through that, but would likely be rather useless against either chain or plate mail.

MiwAuturu June 10, 2010, 10:13 PM EST.

Comment ID #42293

Doesn’t change the fact that an opponent who kicks would have an advantage over him if we assume both fighters were of equal skill in their fighting abilities.

Pixelnator June 10, 2010, 10:14 PM EST.

Comment ID #42295

Maybe, but I’m not convinced the advantage, if any, would be significant enough to make him any less dangerous.

That said, my meditations on things Jake has said in the past have been fueling some character designing.

J. Vincero (Jerk) June 10, 2010, 10:17 PM EST.

@Pixelnator

Well, I guess I can throw a decent kick if I wanted to, but there would be no technique behind it…

Edit: and technique is very important in any martial art or boxing, so I guess it would be a disadvantage.

Still ain’t gonna stop me from hitting them though!

hmm, many times I have answered this question, and it changes every time.
Melee: a Space Marine chain sword, those things looks so bad ass and messy! They look so much easier to wield
Ranged: the plasma cutter from Dead Space. Why? it’s got 3 laser sights their blue, I love blue! Plus, it can cut off limbs from a distance.
So yeah, a chain sword in one hand and a plasma cutter in the other, oh what fun!

@Miw: True, but don’t forget that someone who was wearing that armour likely either wouldn’t be able to move, or woulnd’t be able to move fast enough. ^_^

Besides, there were always weak points in the armour. A large and heavy sword might not be able to find them, so they had to penetrate - while a light and swift one could find openings.

The katana isn’t the divine weapon it’s made out to be, though. I know that.

The katana has its own mythology and a more defined aesthetic sense than most European swords, excluding maybe rapiers with Scottish basket hilts. I’ll grant that the Japanese made it an art form where the Europeans typically didn’t have too many famous sword tales, excluding Durandal and Excalibur, for instance.

European style swords, dual-wielded.
A bastard sword.
A pair of pistols.
A pair of submachine guns.
A single large automatic rifle with an attachment beneath to fire grenades and various other specialty projectiles.

In order. :P

But yes, dual-wielding swords is awesome.

Titanium Dragon June 11, 2010, 12:15 AM EST.

Comment ID #42374

Dual wieldin is… awkward in real life. It sounds much cooler than it is’ a sword isn’t really designed to use two. Although the concept is pretty awesome.

I’ve already said katana, but second to that would be a greatsword, and not a rediculous anime/ff one.

You would maybe have to be very precise, but it would do the damage haha.

it’s a great deterrent weapon and can even rip the weapon out of someone else’s hands at a distance, but against multiple foes or those who can close on you, you are screwed.

So, that’s why. Claws.
