Concept: A forum role-playing game. The object of the game is trying to survive an incredibly dangerous situation, which will likely kill most of the players if they aren’t careful enough. They are not necessarily attached to our reality, and so, might include fantastic themes.

Game master: The game master is in charge of telling the situation to the players, and to present them with challenges and traps. The game master may play some characters, however, none of these characters can be one of those eligible by players.

Players: Players will be presented with a list of characters inspired on some of the characters from Bittersweet Candy Bowl. Any player who wants to play the game has 2 options:

• Play one of the presented characters
• Play as a fan-character created by yourself (you can’t play as other’s characters unless a special condition is met). Playing as yourself counts as a fan-character.

The condition however, there can’t be more fan-characters than BCB characters at the start of a game. It’s okay however, if all BCB characters die and only fan-characters remain, but it’s unlikely.

If someone decides to play a non-BCB character, it’s their responsibility to provide a name suitable to the setting, and a character background similar to those accompanying the preset characters. Including said characters or not is at the game master’s discretion (if the application is rejected however, the applicant might try to persuade the GM before the game starts).

Progression: A day before the game starts, a sign up thread will be made. As the name implies, people will sign-up and pick the characters of their choice, and a card if they wish to do so. They might even change their minds and trade their characters with other people. If you intend to play as your own character, post its name and description, and wait for its approval; if not, just mention who you will be playing as. First posts receive priority.

Regarding playing as another person’s fan-character, to be able to do so, the creator of said character must make a post in the thread, conceding that character to a specific person. Said person can still choose to play that character or pick someone else.

Once a day has passed after the sign up thread was made, everyone is locked with their characters and all characters that weren’t selected are excluded from the game. The game starts in a separate thread, and the sign up thread can now be used to post comments on the ongoing game. This however, doesn’t avoid people from posting comments in the game thread.

Once the game starts, all available starting profiles are posted again for reference. From this point on, any player may join the game; however, fan-characters can only join the game if they were introduced during the sign up phase. In the case a character wants to join the late game, they must introduce themselves with a post containing the character’s name and backstory, and must explain to that how that character joined the existing group.

Manual-mode: Doesn’t need much explanation. The player is in command of the character and controls its actions.

Auto-mode: Whenever you are going to be away for a considerably long time, your character will automatically follow the group. You might want to type in a strategy, so that we know how your character will try to act while you are away. If no strategy is specified, your character will accept commands from other characters. It’s valid to type in as a strategy to only take commands from a certain character. Example:

Paulo player
Paulo: Auto-mode. Strategy: Stay back. Accept commands from Mike.

Mike player
Mike: Paulo, could you please bring me that med kit over there?
Paulo: Sure
*Paulo takes the med kit and hands it to Mike*
Paulo: Here you go

If you concede your character’s control in this manner, that other player may put your character in dangerous situations. However, in these cases, it’s less likely that character dies. On the other hand, if the character taking a command does die, the player who gave the command will be cursed for the rest of the game, and its death will be far more likely. Use commanding with care. Commanding manual-mode characters doesn’t affect the game in any way, as said player can decide to follow the command or not.

Protection:
• A character might want to protect another due to different circumstances. It’s completely valid to want to protect someone else from death, and it comes with rewards, but also with consequences.
• Characters that protect others will have a reduced chance to die, however, since they will be protecting other people, they will also tend to be in risky situations far more often.
• Failure in protecting these characters in that character’s privileges being revoked until it successfully protects said character.
• If the protected character dies, the character becomes cursed and has an increased chance to die.
• If you die while protecting someone, the person you were protecting is blessed, and is less likely to die for the rest of the game. This blessing does overwrites curses.
• Being protected slightly increases the protected character’s chance to die should they be in danger; however, they are in risky situations far less often.
• Cursed characters may be protected.
• Cursed characters may not protect other players.

Sacrificing:
• If another character is about to die, another character might step in and sacrifice itself instead. This may only be done if it makes sense for that character to do that (the character isn’t in another room, for instance).
• Sacrificing for a character guarantees its survival during that dangerous situation, and becomes blessed.
• In the event that you decide to sacrifice your character, there is a slim chance that it might still live. In the event this happens, both characters will be blessed.

Cards:
Cards will be available for players at the start of the game. Any player who chooses them will be presented with some perks. All cards might contain either positive or negative effects. No player may know what the effect of their card is until they are affected by it, either positively or negatively.

• The fool
• The magician
• The high priestess
• The empress
• The emperor

Going to post the same thing here, but I’m somewhat interested in this. Besides, I kinda missed out on the murder mystery games so might as well give this one a whirl.

As long as we steer clear of the saw series. I swear if I see a puppet telling us he’d like to play a game…

Oh and the wall of text is much more manageable this time around.

Pixelnator June 11, 2010, 9:52 AM EST.

Comment ID #42595

Lol. I swear there will be no puppets playing games. Though I can guarantee some pretty over the top deaths. ;D

Comment ID #42596

I’ll just rewrite my comment from the other thread:

“Sounds complicated, but fun. ^_^

Either way, it shouldn’t be played simultaneously with an MMG.”

ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffhahhahhaa

you nerds

all of you

Taeshi June 11, 2010, 9:53 AM EST.

Comment ID #42598

Yeah, perhaps we should reach an agreement on making those, so that they don’t overlap.

Hebs June 11, 2010, 9:54 AM EST.

Comment ID #42599

Taeshi, you say it like it’s a bad thing ;P

@Hebs. Just don’t allow people to play both at the same time if it impairs their playing ability?

Pixelnator June 11, 2010, 9:55 AM EST.

Comment ID #42600

It’d be better to add this one to the line of MMGs (not as an MMG, but timing-wise as one of them).

@Taeshi: We know. ^_^

ILB June 11, 2010, 9:57 AM EST.

Comment ID #42601

But then maybe we can’t fill the games enough.

The previous MMG’s werent exactly full.

Yeah I was thinking what ILB says.

This sounds interesting. “Over the top deaths” piqued my interest…

Hehe. I knew some would be interested in that. =)

I’ve seen lots of guro, trust me I know what I’m doing. x3

Please don’t, Hebs. Please. ^_^

ILB June 11, 2010, 10:03 AM EST.

Comment ID #42608

@Hebs
It’s not just that. It’s because I can picture things really vividly in my mind even if I haven’t seen it myself. Granted it was descriptive enough.

So yeah, all those weird requests in the NSFW thread, I can totally picture >_>

Comment ID #42609

@ILB: Do you have a serious issue regarding blood and stuff?

As in… you freak out on sight.

If it only makes you feel uncomfortable, I won’t have mercy. I want my players to feel fear, and really want to not die.

Hebs June 11, 2010, 10:06 AM EST.

Comment ID #42612

No, I don’t freak out completely but I wish I did ^_^

ILB June 11, 2010, 10:10 AM EST.

Comment ID #42613

Haha. Then I’m afraid to say… over the top deaths will be there sparingly.

Hebs June 11, 2010, 10:11 AM EST.

Comment ID #42617

Ah well. I survived the stuffings, so I might survive this as well. ^_^

(If you don’t know what the stuffings are, look for Chirpy’s and Blur’s fates in MMG: MRM.)

ILB June 11, 2010, 10:16 AM EST.

Comment ID #42618

Well, I guess their insides were replaced by something else. If that’s what you mean by stuffings then yeah it’s pretty much on par.

I’m too lazy to search now. xD

Hebs June 11, 2010, 10:20 AM EST.

Comment ID #42619

…Not exactly. It’s kind of worse. ^_^

ILB June 11, 2010, 10:22 AM EST.

Comment ID #42623

Hmm… you just made me look for it.

I’m really curious now.

Ok, I read it. They were just stuffed into one another, not much of a difference.

But yeah if you could take that then you won’t have a problem.

(Going to sleep now. Night!)

*rubs his chin* A slightly different sort of game huh? So I must ask:How long do you expect such a game to last? MM can become a giant time sink and there’s a reason it tends to burn out after a few days:hard to sacrifice so much time to such a game! This sounds like you intend it to be a little more long term?

Bribri June 11, 2010, 11:24 AM EST.

Comment ID #42654

@ Taeshi:
“Why is saying ‘you’re a nerd’ bad? Saying ‘I notice you’re a nerd’ is like saying ‘I notice that you’d rather be intelligent than be stupid, that you’d rather be thoughtful than be vapid, that you believe that there are things that matter more than the arrest record of Lindsay Lohan, why is that?’ ”
-John Green

As for the game, not much I can say that hasn’t been said already. It looks freakin’ awesome, but shouldn’t be put up at the same time as the MMGs.

The way you describe the cards makes me think of the Deck of Many things.

I have never had an encounter with the Deck of Many things that turned out positively.

Fun times.

Premise is interesting, though I imagine the pace will move faster than I can handle.

The only thing I’m wondering isd how exactly you’re calculating odds. Are you behind your screen with various D&D die? Are you calculationg odds and using a random number generator?

MiwAuturu June 11, 2010, 5:39 PM EST.

Comment ID #42728

@Miw.

He judges you based on how much he likes the character you’re playing as ;P

Pixelnator June 11, 2010, 6:02 PM EST.

Comment ID #42755

I MIGHT use a RNG or dice. You’ll never know. =)

Hebs June 11, 2010, 8:51 PM EST.

Comment ID #42761

Oh and regarding the cards, they are tarot cards, and belong to the major arcana. The effects of the cards on the game will be losely based on it’s meaning, but like I said, you won’t know what the actual effect is until you get affected by it.

Hebs June 11, 2010, 9:14 PM EST.

Comment ID #42762

Normally, I’d jump at an opportunity like this.

But as it stands, my internet (or rather, the internet I steal from my neighbor wirelessly) has, for some reason, gone on the fritz. Is it possible that I kinda “bet-on” a character, give a detailed auto-script and just see how he goes? The GM can control him, as long as he follows my script.

I imagine that I must be under the influence of The Fool if I decide to pick the Death card, yeah? Heh heh heh heh … . Ha ha ha ha!! Ohh, that would be funny.

Who June 11, 2010, 9:42 PM EST.

Comment ID #42776

You think thats bad? I imagine i will be under the influence of Pat Sajak if I pick the wheel of fortune card.

Byron June 11, 2010, 9:49 PM EST.

Comment ID #42777

I see the Major Arcana is the origin of your card names.

Unknown June 11, 2010, 9:49 PM EST.

Comment ID #42791

Yes it is.

And not necessarily Who, as I said earlier, all cards have both positive and negative effects. The death card is a risky card, that’s all I can tell you about it. Besides, another thing is… I think it would be more interesting if people could only decide to draw a card, and get a random one (so they can’t pick exactly what card they want, just so you know… biases with the card names).

So… I need an opinion on this one.

Allow people to pick or make them random if they decide to draw one?

Hebs June 11, 2010, 10:27 PM EST.

Comment ID #42795

Hi. I’ll likely be playing as my fancharacter. For the record.

Also, hi Hebs. ^_^

Icaras June 11, 2010, 10:42 PM EST.

Comment ID #42797

I like the idea of a random card if you decide to pick, I like the unknown, it can be amusingly chaotic.

Unknown June 11, 2010, 10:47 PM EST.

Comment ID #42800

Ok so 2 votes in favor of randomness, against 0 for picking. Any more votes?

Hebs June 11, 2010, 10:55 PM EST.

Comment ID #42803

Randomizing it makes it a lot more interesting in my opinion.

Byron June 11, 2010, 11:03 PM EST.

Comment ID #42806

Asked around an randomization won by a lot. So random cards it is.

Hebs June 11, 2010, 11:08 PM EST.

Comment ID #42807

Random eh? sound like it could be very… interesting. Not in a bad way either. I am definately going to try for a card when this comes out.
