right who has heartgold and soulsilver

who has been a dedicated pokemon fan since the beginning

and who really got tired of the same old battle system and never picked up a game again?

I basically played Blue and it was heaps awesome.. then I picked up Silver and was totally blown away. I ended up getting Crystal when it was announced, but I only got up to the first gym leader and promptly gave up. It was the same shit as Silver! It bored the hell out of me and I was very disappointed.

Time passed and I heard about Ruby/Sapphire, and considering the feelings I had with Crystal I chose to skip it as well.. until Emerald came out and I ended up buying that. Pretty alright, kind of forgettable in the end.

Diamond/Pearl came out, and I chose to play Diamond. It captivated me infinitely more than Emerald, for sure.

Avoided FireRed/LeafGreen.

BUT NOW THERE’S SOULSILVER

i am hooked like a magikarp

using splash

I have made like tons of chikorita eggs to trade with my friends, everyone that I know picked cyndaquils or totodiles, I am the only one who gives Chikorita some love ;.;

So tell me what kind of pokemon are you

I think I’ve played almost all the Pokemon games (Hey You Pikachu! FTW) but the only two I’ve got now are Yellow and Platinum.

I have always and always will be a Growlithe/Arcanine fan. Forever. Don’t know what Pokemon I would be though, but if I could pick I’d choose one of those two.

I’ve loved Pokémon ever since I saw the second episode on TV (and I had no idea what it was, or even that it existed, up until that point).

Granted, some of the Pokémon are terrible (Banette) or downright ugly (Magmortar, for instance). But I like the good ones. ^_^

I don’t have either of the Generation II remakes, but I have borrowed, with two exceptions, and played all the main line games from Red/Blue to Platinum (except Diamond, and of course Green). My favourites are the Mystery Dungeon games, though. The endings always make me cry…

I got Soul Silver WE CAN TRADE!! :D
I also picked Chicorita ^^
I already got a Cyndaquil but no Totodile, cause I know noone who took it :9

I am also a HUGE fan of the Pokéwalk, but to answere the games question before it,

I started with blue- my cousin got red- and it was SO awesome back then x3
I remember that we still replaying it, like we were sitting with 4 friends infront of the supernintendo gameboy add-on thing so we could play it on the TV screen hah~ good old times
I had gold back then, it was also super awesome, I must say it was my favourite game so far, while I like the Gen I Pokémon the most though.
I also didn’t get leafgreen and firered, cause they were remakes of blue and red, Saphire and Ruby- well I didn’t feel like spending so much money on a gameboy game back then so I skipped these too xD
I got pearl together with a friend who got Diamond for the DS, since it was a completely new Gen gameboy and so on, it was fun but I lost the interest after a while, because.. I mean really catching all 492 pokémon?? Come on!!
Now that I got Soul Silver for the DS I am totally happy with it- I’m not so far in the story yet, just moved to the Kanto region. I want to catch all Pokémon on this one c:
Then again- it’s still 495 isn’t it? ^^u oh man that’s going to be a lot of work ^^u

These pokemon games are for the DS, right?
If they are then I may have to pick one up…
But is it possible to catch Mew-Two? :P

Well, “dedicated,” i’m not sure that’s the right way to say it if the only games in the series i own are the main ones. I used to have the trading card and pinball Game Boy games and the N64 Stadium games, but i plan on finding the Gamecube games if i can find another memory card to support them, but that’s it.

Used to have Blue before i got FireRed. You should get it (or LeafGreen) if you can. The only one of the original Game Boy games i still have is Yellow.

Used to have Silver before i got SoulSilver. I’m not going to do anything with it though until i get second DS (a DSi, i hope) to transfer my event Jirachi to unlock an area in the Walker.

Got Ruby a while after it came out. SO MUCH WATER. SO. MUCH. WATER.

Diamond… pretty good.

But im still good in the card game.

Ninetails is as useless as ratta lol

Pokemon games I had:
Blue
Yellow
Gold
Sapphire
Pearl
Heart Gold

I’m a Sudowoodo, but my favorite Pokemon is Ninetails.

I’m planning on getting Pokemon Black when it comes out in the US.

i have always loved the pokemon games, they where my first video game on the purple see-through game boy color, still have yellow version, but i cheated on red and blue enough to destroy the save function lol.

i would get HG and SS but the top and bottom of my DS decided to divorce each other if you get what i mean

Kyle April 15, 2010, 3:41 PM EST.

@Kyle: My DS is currently out of commission, so I found a really good emulator for the game. Downside: no pokewalker.

Gabriel Kaxbe April 15, 2010, 3:49 PM EST.

Comment ID #4618

@everyone: Ninetales, not Ninetails.

kthxbai

(Sorry ^_^)

Also, if I were a Pokémon, I would prefer it to be a Bayleef or something like that. I’ve taken several online quizzes, but they always yield different results so I don’t know which one to believe (or even when to believe them). I think I got Absol twice, though.

ILB April 15, 2010, 4:07 PM EST.

Comment ID #4620

@Gabriel Kaxbe: i know that emulators exist for older systems but have they already got the new ones on an emulator? don’t they take alot longer to get?
also the pokewalker looks cool, i really want to play it

Kyle April 15, 2010, 4:17 PM EST.

Comment ID #4625

@Kyle: Well, the Japanese version was released quickly. For the American version, all they did was take the dialog coding from the American translation and replace the code into the Japanese emulator.

This process is easier for RPG’s.

Farfetch’d most awesome pokemon? Or greatest pokemon? You decide!

Yeah I played through Red back in the day, and the more recent remake too. Nice fun simple game with plenty of adorable looking critters. … Never really got into the later ones though. I kept up to date on pokemon themselves granted, regularly making avs of them despite the fact I wasn’t playing the games anymore.

I -did- play the mystery dungeon games though. Refreshingly different, particularly the second one with it having a surprisingly decent story for a pokemon game.

I did grab a copy of platinum a month ago or so. Fun game… but I don’t really find myself getting attached to any of my pokemon as I did in ages past. Save my Buizel, and Chatot anyway…they’re freaking awesome <3<3. Too bad Chatot doesn’t have a second form though… poor girl’s starting to lag behind. Friends keep telling me I should have tried the Remakes of Silver/Gold instead.. far superior games they say.

@ whatanamazingd

If any of the games are slow, it’s Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald.

I agree about the Pokemon designs by then, though. At that point, they were just drawing random shapes and saying “There, that’s a pokemon now.” Though that’s not to say things were much different previously, but still.

*THE LOST CAROL used BUMP!
It’s super effective!*

Played and beaten Red, Yellow, & Silver at time of release.
Skipped GBA generations for reasons unknown.
Bought & beaten Pearl.
Have Soul Silver, but FFXIII (…oh, and final project for college) are more important, though FFXIII is done now. I loved Silver the most, because it’s two, two, two games in one, so I eagerly awaited it.

@Taeshi: I would be either a Xatu or a Noctowl. They have great character designs, they’re flying/psychics, and I just think they’re so cool. They’re my special friends… wait, what?

The Lost Carol April 17, 2010, 5:18 AM EST.

Comment ID #4974

Played Blue when Gameboy Color first came out…beat the game using the old man glich.
Bought Silver when it came out…cloned a team of lvl. 100 Lugia and beat that as well.
Was tricked into buying a used Yellow version…they’d blocked all of the gliches and found I didn’t have the time or patience to actually beat the game honestly (I was 11 cut me some slack)
Fast forward eight(ish) years…friends get me back into pokemon, buy me Platinum, and I finally beat a game without using a cheat, a glitch, or a legendary.
I’m now completely readdicted to the series: I replayed and beat Yellow, have and have beaten the latest mystery dungeon game, and am slowly working my way through SoulSilver.

@Taeshi: According to Mystery Dungeon I’m a Shinx…Buizel/Floatzel are my favorite however.

***BTW did everyone get SoulSilver? I know a few people including myself who got the remakes and I only know one person who got HeartGold.

I still dream of a day they’ll make a pokemon with the same ‘from above’ view, same status, leveling up, earning medals…

… but active battles, Super Smach Brothers Style =w=
THAT would be a dream come true for me. ^^

Shen Hibiki April 17, 2010, 6:47 AM EST.

Comment ID #4981

@Shen Hibiki: It would be good, but I’m not sure it’d work as well for most people. Kids buy pokemon games because they’re easy to get into and understand the battle system and item system. For example, if you give a 7 year old Final Fantasy VII and told him nothing, it might take him a long while to work it out, whilst Pokemon’s system is so easy to understand, a monkey could play it. I’m getting ahead of myself here, point is, it would be an excellent game for dedicated RPG and fighting game fans but for casual gamers, they would prefer the usual style they know and love. I’d love it, but I understand if it wouldn’t exist because of Nintendo wanting to keep Pokemon simple for more kids buying it because more kids buying = $.

DAMN THAT WAS LONG!

Aaaaanyway, I would call myself a dedicated fan. I have all of the main games, some Mystery Dungeon games, the GameCube games excluding Channel and Box and I used to have the Pinball games. (But I have no clue what happened to them.

IF I had to pick a favourite, Arcanine or Espeon would be my choice. The pokemon I am most like however, probably Cyndaquil. I’m usually very fun loving, but I can have a fiery temper.

I started when Red/Blue came out. Got Red on easter that year, and was happy as a pig in poop. I played Yellow, and am ashamed to admit that the whole Pikachu gimmick won me over, because damn it, I do love cute things… Silver, and fell even deeper into love (Still missed my Pikachu though). Then came a brief flirting with Emerald, though I never finished it. I completely skipped FR & LG, and was disheartened when I decided that Pearl sucked…

But now… Finally… Heart Gold has be squarely by the balls and isn’t letting go! It’s all my favorite things about Pokémon, with the innovations like single hand play and auto-run that I so sorely craved. It’s the game I missed, and I’m so glad to have it back. It feels like coming home…

Let me just end this by saying… I still hold Down+B every time I throw a Pokéball ;)

Im totally betting that by the time it gets to America it will be Pokemon Dark and Light or something. Just dont see white and black going into the American market.

Also, anyone have any idea why the words “white” and “black” are spelled out with katakana on the Japanese version? as opposed to using the actual Japanese words

Gabriel Kaxbe April 19, 2010, 7:52 AM EST.

Comment ID #5759

@Drakedrake: Found some stuff. It is possible that they did this in order to make translation easier. Since the symbols say “Buraku” and “Howaito”. However, it may have also been done to make the title more universal. English words are recognized throughout the world.

Universalizing, eh? Maybe we’ll get to go to previous regions after all in the next game?

yeah, I can read the katakana…

I guess your guesses are pretty darn close to mine, certainly as good as mine. Of course, while English words are recognized all over the world, the katakana are not. Romaji would have been more appropriate if that was the desired effect.

Darkdrake April 19, 2010, 9:24 AM EST.

Comment ID #5835

Oh, completely forgot. My favorite pokemon is Mew-Two, that’s why I was asking if it was possible to catch Mew-Two (Probably not, but a glitch or a cheat to would be friggin’ awesome!).
I have no clue what type of pokemon I am, but I didn’t particularly care that much for the series.
I have never played a pokemon game (unless playing as pikachu once on super smash bros. melee counts :P ), although I would like to since I have a DS and… well… Let’s face it, games that aren’t designed specifically for the DS suck, are beaten quickly, and have no replay value. (I picked up the New Super Mario Bros. and it took me days to finish, then I picked up the Force Unleashed and beat it in under 2 hours!)

So, yeah, what would be a good current pokemon game for someone basically new to it? :)

Archimantis April 19, 2010, 2:40 PM EST.

Comment ID #5838

You can catch a Mewtwo in FireRed/LeafGreen, and if I’m not mistaken, you can also capture one in the 2nd generation games.

Obtain maximum beauty for a Feebas by either getting it massaged at 3:00PM by blue sister or go to the hairstylist in the underground of goldenroad.
When its beauty hits max level it up and there you go. Normally have to do iy about 8 times.

Jacob83 April 22, 2010, 6:11 PM EST.

An uncle gave me a Game Boy and a copy of Silver when I was 10… that’s how it all started.

I really have no favourite Pokemon, there are so many… each with it’s different capabilities… but I think I can reduce it to Mightyena, Vulpix, Noctwol, Dragonair, Leafeon, Bulbasaur, Feraligatr, Kangaskhan and… Azumarril.

My biggest deception was that the games after Silver were just adding moar critters, sparkles and getting slower. The story of DPPt was just too boring… I mean, come on! They gave ‘em their starters for nothing! Though the story of RSE was interesting, the game was badly designed.

The Mystery Dungeon series only caught me with Explorers of Darkness & Time… best Pokemon Story ever… Explorers of Sky gave many spoilers in the intro… and Skymin made me lol.

The new games look like more shit is coming. Zurua ‘n Zoroark look like the bastard son of Shadow the Hedgehog and Lucario, and I hate both. The 3D view is not really going to guarantee a better gaming experience, in fact, it looks like crap. There’s a rumor saying there’s going to be around 600 species… wut.

What the games need is not moar Pokemon or a better look, but changes in the gameplay like…
-Having to catch your starter (a selection of at least 9).
-5 moves move set.
-Aiming the foe before hitting to determinate Critical Hits and evasion.
-Limit breaks (maybe).
-Minigames.
-A more serious story.

Speaking of looks… Generation III had too simple designs and silly (Wingull ‘nuff said)… and Generation IV had them too complicated (the Legendaries and others like Rhyperior), nonsense (Combee, Giratina ‘n stuff) and humanoid (Lucario, Lopunny, Froslass, Buizel,Frosslass, etc.).

Long text is Looong. But I had to take it out.

Vincent April 22, 2010, 6:39 PM EST.

Comment ID #7570

@Jacob: where is the massage lady in SoulSilveR? and when do I find the hair stylist in the underground??? -thanks for the help btw

@Vincent: SS and HG do have some more minigames, as for the serious story, you are a 10 year old kid with pokemon and you go save the pkmnworld from evil organisations- isn’t that enough for you? xD

Lisa April 23, 2010, 10:15 AM EST.

Comment ID #7575

HeartGold, ‘cause everyone else I know got SoulSilver. ^^ I’ve been fairly dedicated to the series since it’s start, and I have one game from each generation. Mystery Dungeon is AWESOME, by the way!! I started Blue Rescue as a Cubone, and Explorers of Darkness as an Eevee. XD

What I spend most of my time on, though, is breeding. I really couldn’t care less about the badges, and though the storyline is interesting, there’s only so much they can do before it gets repetitive. So now, I breed competition level teams in my spare time. Working on an all -Eon Baton Passing team now. They’ll never be -quite- up to par with a legit tournament team, but they be fun to challenge friends with. ^^

I think the mini-games in HGSS are fun, to be honest. My favorite is Voltorb Flip, ‘cause I’m in the process of cracking the pattern for orbs. I looked online for a while, but no one seemed to have a strategy yet for beating it, just “guess randomly”, so I decided to share my method.

Strangest moment, though… Walking into the Game Corner, and there’s only ONE TABLE. Where does everyone else play? Or does anyone else play? If not, kudos, Nintendo has finally cured it’s peoples’ gambling addiction. ^^
