Question: if we click on the ads, do you get some kind of bonus or something?

just add the damn ad !
but no pop ups !

Incidentally, I think PW lets you choose a default image to advertise your own stuff when you are yet to get bidders. Just in case you missed the option.
And Jerk: Project Wonderful is pay-per-second, so alas no.

Well, cock. >(

Thank you, James May.
But, seriously, I think you’ll be surprised by how many people will want BCB merchandise. You guys are active on your forums, update regularly and have an absolutely awesome comic rolling on; I think your fanbase is pretty loyal.
Loyal fans + Good quality gear = $$$

Jerk, no! PW is a time-based system, people pay for the ad to go up and that’s it. Click things you find interesting, but don’t click for the sake of clicking. It doesn’t help us and it will confuse advertisers!
Yappy, I put that plain pattern on the ad instead of the hideous “ADVERTISE HERE!!!” text. You won’t see it much, we get tons of page views so the spots should always be filled as far as I know.
The store is coming along next week sometime! We’re waiting on the delivery of two more packages, so we can take photos. Stay tuned for that!
Comment ID #45663
Don’t worry, I won’t go fucking things up for you where I can help it.
Any chance for patches by the way? I’m just curious if there’s been any talk about it.
Comment ID #45665
Great stuff, Souppy! No chance of pre-ordering the book, though? (Inevitable mayhem, I suppose.)
And good point re: the plain image. I’d forgotten how awful that “advertise here” thing looked.
Comment ID #45668
Sweeeeeet, I can’t wait to buy some awsome stuff
Comment ID #45669
Honestly I like ads on webcomics, especially for other webcomics. It’s why I am actively reading 73 of them right now.
Comment ID #45676
Patches aren’t planned at this stage. You mean like embroidery stuff? I saw that Zazzle does that but it’s rather expensive, and it seems like an item with limited appeal. Can you tell me more about it, and show me other examples of patches people have sold?
Preorders for the book might happen closer to the time the book is ready. Right now that’s probably end of July at best. It is all dependent on when Veronica has time to draw the bonus content for the book.
Comment ID #45678
Fair enough. I look forward to that day!
For now, I guess I’ll content myself with buying all your other stuff. ![]()
Comment ID #45680
Point in case: The first ad I see is for a comic called underling, which I am now reading through the archives to see if I shall make it #74
Comment ID #45682
Hmm. That ad is everywhere except atop threads. Anyone else getting this?
Comment ID #45683
I just noticed the add ‘cause you pointed them, but it’s ok for me. I don’t really care that much.
Comment ID #45685
Do whatever you have to in order to keep the site afloat. Spamming and kidnapping are probably the only things that will receive a negative response from the forum members.

Yappy, thanks for noticing. I fixed it! You truly are a useful forum member.
Comment ID #45688
Hah. I can’t even see the ads. I looked at the main page and scoured it and thought, “What the fuck is Souppy talking about?” Then realized my orgasmically effective ad-blocker is still turned on.
Comment ID #45690
I don’t mind that. I personally use an ad blocker. But enough people don’t for it to be useful to advertise on sites that have ads like this.
Comment ID #45691
Hee. Thanks, Souppy.

Project Wonderful. Mission: Impossible.
Comment ID #46307
Hahahaha~ That Omake Theater ad is perfect for this site.
Hoy, you think tower ads would be better?
Comment ID #46311
I will do tower ads, but I’m going to wait and see how other ad networks accept us before I decide on where to implement the ads.
Comment ID #46312
@Kaxbe i kind of agree with that, but it will slightly damage the image of the webpage, so i think that the add at the top of the webpage it’s cool. Go with all the advertise banners SuitCase!!, and if you need some testing arround here and there, i kinda be helpful with that
I’ll follow the pre-order. I want a copy of it too!
Comment ID #46313
I literally cringed when I saw the Omake Theater advert atop my favourite website. But money is money. I guess…
EDIT: Double ninja’d. Wow. But I think the single leaderboard looks better than two towers. Having all three… would be slowing, I guess. And so kinda annoying.
Comment ID #46314
As long as it doesn’t impact the loading speed of the site, I’m cool with it. I always liked the home page for its quick simplicity.
Comment ID #46319
I generally don’t care if there are ads on a site. As long as they’re not pop up ads (even though i have firefox) because they are very annoying, especially the explosm kind where they open a completely new window. I actually like ads for other comics, that’s how i found BCB and about 15 other comics.
Comment ID #46328
True. And since that’s what we’re getting, I guess I won’t complain too hard. And after all, it should reduce the amounts that Tae and Souppy have to spend to keep producing BCB.
With all that said… when I first came to site a month or two back, it was still a breath of fresh air to see a home-designed webcomic with no ads. But times change. “Ah… the days of my youth… like the scent of fresh lemon…” you see.
Comment ID #46337
It was gonna happen, but the ad isn’t that distracting.
The web design on 2kinds works around a small comic page and room for potential ads.
Slightly damned also has a rather nice design, though from my view it could be better.
As for where the ad is now, I’m fine with it but I think it clashes with the webpage.
Perhaps after you get this sorted you can give the ad space a border.
Comment ID #46453
I’ve already voiced my opinion on this.
I don’t mind ads in the slightest, I’m just happy you can make money doing something you love.
Comment ID #46456
Ads aren’t inevitable. They’re a means to an end. The main part of this experiment, and indeed the wider experiment of BCB in 2010 is whether I’m able to turn this site into something that will make Vero enough money that she no longer needs to do casual work next year and beyond. If the store is such a roaring success that it makes her enough money to “retire” from Subway, I’d give serious thought to the idea of removing ads. But it’s my understanding that in most cases, ads are far more profitable, and this site in particular seems to have a crazy pageviews per visitor ratio that would imply it’d be very suited towards advertising profit.
I dislike this monetization stuff somewhat, but I think it’d be an amazing thing if we could build from 20 cents a day on a leaderboard ad and a handful of donations to an ongoing structure that will actually support Vero’s passion and make it something she could seriously plan her life around doing. This is a step towards that.
Comment ID #46479
Can anyone put an ad there? Or does it have to be a webcomic? Also, how much does it cost to have the ad there for a day?
Comment ID #46491
good luck with the $$$
Comment ID #46500
Anyone can, but Project Wonderful is dominated by webcomics. It’s a bidding system, go to their site and you can learn how it works.
Comment ID #46684
I love the ad at the bottom of the screen.
“Your ad here, right now: $0” and it hasn’t been taken.
Comment ID #46973
I’d love to see Tae making a living from her webcomic(s)! I always feel a little awkward now when I go past Subway stores - kinda bothers me that my favourite artist and writer on the ‘net has to work long shifts in one. :-/
Comment ID #47762
I support this idea if it works. She should have a job doing what she’s happy with. No one has to have the best job in the world to enjoy it.

Suitcase
Feel free to add 20 ads on the site if you want to.
Long as there are no pop-ups I’m fine ![]()
Comment ID #58242
Ta-da. More ads. A tower and rectangle at the bottom of each page, and the top of the forum index. Hope you don’t mind. I think this will be the extent of what I add.
Do they look ok for everyone? I have tested them, but whf had some bug I can’t reproduce where it overlapped the Skype chat notice in the forum index.
Comment ID #58243
I give it an all clear for IE users.
Comment ID #58244
All clear for Firefox. Literally. Can’t see a single one.
Comment ID #58245
i got this happening

Comment ID #58255
Works fine on Opera. These ones are a little more ugly than the PW ones… How much do they boost the income by out of curiosity?
Comment ID #58261

Kinda messed your layout in firefoxeh.
Oh and everything else is fine though.
Comment ID #58262
Kind of crowding on my Firefox because I don’t know how to get Adblock. :
Comment ID #58265
Comment ID #58266
Uh. Do you have any choice over which ads you’re being served? Somehow I doubt weight loss techniques that require just “1 Anicent Rule” [sic], and I’d kinda prefer to see honest ads on BCB.
Nice to see you trying to get Tae some real money from here, though.
Comment ID #58270
Can’t post a picture, but they look a bit out of place on the mobile version. Kinda looks like:
Comments
Banner ad
Square ad
Reply box
Comment ID #58271
They don’t fit nearly as nicely on the page from a visual standpoint as the other ads; the other ads look like they were always meant to be here, whereas these look like more of an afterthought.
That being said, its also easy not to see them at all if you don’t comment on stuff, and they don’t look annoying so much as a little out of place.
Head back to the forum index.
Comment ID #45651
Yeah, so I’m going to progressively add adds here. I’m so sorry, I know it’s kind of ugly clutter but we want to experiment with making money now. I am getting increasingly optimistic about the idea that Veronica might be able ot make a living off this comic, and monetisation schemes like this seem like the way forward.
You should note I coded the ads carefully so that they won’t unduly delay page load times and if you use Adblock or other ad blockers, they will gracefully disappear without leaving a big blob. The only real usability problem is that the page viewer code now has a much larger header that will force you to scroll down 100px more than you used to. Is that okay? I hope so..
Anyway, feedback on ads here. If I’m doing something upsetting, please let me know and I will adjust things!
