in this thread ILB defends her christianity!

If I ever made one of my characters religious, I would slowly begin to hate them.
This is why I don’t touch religion with a ten foot pole in the comics :-[

I am sure that we can have an intelligent conversation without any argument. Right?
But honestly I think religion is overrated. Everyone has the right to believe in something as strange that thing is but he must never force others people to do the same.
P.S. All hail to the flying spaghetti monster, Bask in the glory of his noodley appendices!!

@Taeshi then why are they celebarting Christmas? Oh wait, for fun, right
Comment ID #47681
Wait… Christmas is a religious event? Does that make my Xbox holy.
Comment ID #47682
Holy xbox!
Comment ID #47683
Christmas is a secular holiday.
That celebrates the birth of Christ.
Comment ID #47684
Who honestly celebrates Christmas as “oh let’s give thanks to the birth of baby Jesus”
just an excuse to give presents to people.
Souppy’s family celebrate christmas and they aren’t religious. Christmas is more of a market holiday these days than a durpadurpa religious circlejerk
unless you’re religious of course fffff
Comment ID #47686
They can call it “Excuse to Use Colored Lights and Give Presents Day.”

Hee. So much hostility. ^_^

I think expression of religion can be touching in some literary cases, and I think expression of atheism can be bold. I think both can be written toward beauty and that painting one character with one brush doesn’t necessarily exclude painting a different character with another. Using a character as a soap box for either side disgusts me.
*tries to ignore Taeshi and Souppy banging loudly*
THIS IS WHY I DON’T USE SKYPE.
Comment ID #47699
Eh, I’d argue, but I’m pretty much sure I won’t be able to change any minds. ^_^
Suffice to say that Christianity isn’t made up, though. There’s more proof of Jesus being a real person than there is of the existence of Julius Caesar, Plato, Socrates, Vergil, Archimedes and King Leonidas combined. ^_^
But really, people should believe what they want (within certain limits, of course).

Mike: que dios te bendiga!(god bless u) before grammar error you, you (chapter 9/tier 1/6)..
Christians are very annoying sometimes especially here in Ecuador..
Every1 whit the stupid fear that they will go to hell(so fking dumb shit)..
Comment ID #47702
The more you study religion, the more you don’t believe in it.
It’s a quote I say whenever this topic comes in to play.
Comment ID #47703
@ ILB: The problem isn’t really whether or not he was a real person, but whether or not he was the son of God. Or whether or not God exists or whatever. And on that note:
ABSENCE OF EVIDENCE =/= EVIDENCE OF ABSENCE.
SUCK IT DOWN, MOTHERFUCKERS. ![]()

Oh, I said I wasn’t going to try arguing about his divinity, or the validity of my faith. I just wanted to provide some perspective. ^_^
Comment ID #47707
so true…

Comment ID #47709
@ ILB: Okie dokie. I’m not trying to provoke you, just everybody else. Because it’s really really funny.
@ Impuls3: Bible says trust in God but be sure to watch your own ass. I’m paraphrasing, of course.

… the fact that i don’t believe in god doesn’t makes me horrible i respect Christianity but me and my gf, we decided not to believe in that class of stuff it makes our live even worse..

i am agnostic bro you dont have to tell me
but this thread shouldnt exist and you guys are horrible for posting in it

It provided Souppy and Taeshi with a potent aphrodisiac. I’d say that’s a noble cause.
Comment ID #47720
Yeah, after seeing how religion affected my family, I’m trying to stay as far away from it as possible. My parents aren’t too happy about how I left the church, though.
Comment ID #47721
well my last post on this tpic (wait a minute.. i dont even post on this forum xD)
Comment ID #47723
@ Catsby: What, did you leave it on fire?
Comment ID #47724
Of course. Aphrodisiacs make everything better. O^)
Oh my. What imagination you possess, Johnny.
Comment ID #47727
My friend Jacob was disowned by his parents about three weeks ago for for not meeting their Baptist self-obligatory standards. Organized Religion does have some good aspects about it, but too many people use it as an excuse to claim superiority over those who don’t share their views. They’re then “kind” enough to force their views on everyone else.
Comment ID #47728
Eh, and Sean, all sides do that. Many atheists force their views upon their children, same with agnostics, buddhists, New Agers and so on. It’s not limited to organised religion.
I’m just saying. ^_^

@ ILB: My mind is an empire. A big, sexy empire. What is O^)? I thought it was a typo the first time I saw it, but apparently it’s a smiley?
@ whf: I know. :|
Comment ID #47732
Oh, it’s my new “for fun” smiley face. It’s a nosy cyclope. ^_^
Comment ID #47733
@ILB
I consider those as organized religions….well I didn’t consider agnostics, but I do recognize that people will be people, if not the worst kind of people. I’m just tired of how the “Fuck your fellow man” philasophy has become dominant in our modern society.

@ ILB: Neat! Thank you for clearing that up for me.
@ Sean: That should be Bravo’s new slogan. “Fuck your fellow man.”

My mom grew up next to the Mormon Garden of Eden. Seriously, it’s almost within walking distance of my grandmother’s house.
Comment ID #47746
Ok, to avoid any drama, I just to say two things.
First, I’m Catholic, in case anyone was wondering.
Second, I personally don’t care about anyone’s religion - as long as they’re not a prick, they’re fine by me.
Comment ID #47761
I don’t Confucianism counts as a major religion, so I’d say I’m atheist too. My family, and closest cousins’ families are also atheist, but my grandma is Christian. We can live to respect each other despite our differences. She can share her beliefs with us and we can listen, but we don’t necessarily have to care much depending on how interested we are. I’d consider this a functional family, wouldn’t you?

FEAR US MIGHTY JEWSSSS!!!!
Comment ID #47787
ILB, isn’t it true that it’s somewhat dishonest to compare indoctrinating someone with agnosticism to indoctrinating them with a religious belief? Surely it is the correct thing to do, because it starts someone off with a “blank slate”, a belief system based only on values evident to them rather than prescribed by an authority figure?
Comment ID #47790
He shall use as many big words as it takes until he gets ILB to finally argue back at him.
But he shall never do it.
It is impossible.
Comment ID #47791
You know, years ago, there used to be some (limited!) element of pretentiousness behind my choice of words in things I wrote, but recently I find it genuinely hard to express myself without using these apparently big words. I blame reading legal opinions a lot!
Comment ID #47794
@SuitCase: No, not really. Our childhood often defines a lot of our later lives, and a lack of religiousness/a standpoint does not “clear the mind”. Rather, if someone is raised in an agnostic environment, they will usually end up as agnostics themselves. Besides, it is impossible to not have any form of impact on a child’s values or world view. We raise our children to upkeep certain ethics (e.g. don’t kill, don’t steal, don’t lie, help the poor) and the same is true for religious views (albeit I admit that is to a lesser extent). Agnosticism does not help the young to choose, or at least not any more than any other form of religious standpoint.
Not only that, people who teach their kids a religion seldom indoctrinate to the degree that we may think from the media. It is not prescribed, it is more usually suggested. Though that has heavy influence, religious children are not in any way told what to do. That said, it is true that for instance sons and daughters of Muslim parents tend to stay Muslims. The same goes for every single religious/non-religious view on the planet (although some sects may not have as much influence due to their hidden and mystic nature). Still, the way I see it, if “indoctrination” had the effect some people suggest then there would have been only one religion on Earth.
…Hey, what do you know, I started arguing anyway. ^_^ Oh, by the way, I know I went slightly off the topic with that last paragraph but I felt it needed saying.

Atheism is a religion. Richard Dawkins wrote its Bible.

And Christ died for your sins.
Unsuccessfully.
