Being fairly desensitized to death, the paladin was surprisingly crippled by the ritual’s result and Sunday’s sacrifice. At first he stood there, stunned, but he now proceeds to walk away to spend some time alone, being reminded of a particularly painful memory from his first adventure (the one when he became a paladin).

I… I’ll be over h-here if anyone n-needs me.

Upon looking closer he seems to be holding back tears.

(Yay! Finally, I get a drama moment!)

Carter’s eyes widened at Amy’s new hat and scrambled back to Delilah, half in fear and half in surprise.

“I-I-I-I… I HATE THIS PLACE!” he growled under his teeth.

She hadn’t moved since people started to get up and talk amongst each other. The only time she had looked up when Lily carried off Sunday’s body. She continued to quietly cry and sniffle, ignoring even Makar now when he approached her. It was clear that she felt deep guilt for the death of the Princess, and in her shame, could not face Makar.

Delilah watches Lord Makar climb the hill wearily, but when he comes back down and begins barking out orders, her eyes widen with shock, then horror as he commands the vampire who is sobbing on the ground, perhaps the most hurt of anyone there, to keep watch with him.

Lord Makar!

She stamps her foot, her eyes cold.

Doesn’t Sunday’s sacrifice mean anything to you? Even one thing? We’re all crying our eyes out here, and you… you don’t even care!

Her eyes well up with tears, shimmering in the dim light.

She threw her life away to keep YOU alive! YOU! You would have turned to dust at dawn’s first light, and you don’t even care! What kind of knight are you?

She holds up a finger.

First, we save YOU from the dragon.

She holds up another.

Then, you run off ahead of us and get kidnapped by… those creatures!

She holds up a third finger.

We rescue you AGAIN.

She holds up a fourth finger.

And the princess, who LOVED you, and I thought… I thought you loved her… threw away her very existence to preserve your very being.

She stands there yelling loudly at him.

And now you’re telling Lady Lieselotte, who has never had a friend die before, not even once… someone who had to stand by while another woman gave up her LIFE for her love for YOU, so that SHE could be with you…

Y-you don’t even understand! You don’t KNOW what we’ve been through! You just woke up from a nap!

You are supposed to be the hero, Lord Makar, wielder of the sword of light! You are supposed to be the Lady’s best friend! You are supposed to be a friend to the royal family as well. And here you are, talking about watches…

The tears are raining down from her cheeks onto the grass like a rainshower now, and when she shakes her head you can see the tears shimmering through the air.

Asking someone who is sobbing on the ground… no, COMMANDING them…

They call Lady Lieselotte a monster, but it seems to me that YOU are the monster! Where are your tears? Where is your sorrow?

I took care of this already. We are safe here, no thanks to you. If you want to keep watch, YOU do it. Alone. The rest of us, those with FEELINGS, need to sleep.

Sometime… a few months ago…

Reinhild kneels before her new mother, watching her lay in her deathbed.

Are you sure I’m ready for this spell..?

The old woman nods to her and closes her eyes, whispering some words to herself.

A… alright…

Reinhild closes her eyes and concentrates. Her hand starts to emit a dark glow, gradually increasing its intensity. Once fully charged, she places her hand on the woman’s chest.

So… soul press…

The paladin can be found sitting against a nearby tree, his sword in the ground next to him. There are deep gashes in a nearby tree on which he had taken out his rage and sorrow. Tears are now visibly streaming down his face.

I do care, that’s exactly why I can’t let her sacrifice be in vain. For her… I have to do the best for our group.
Makar could notice the Lady’s sadness and sat down besides her.
Lieselotte… I feel for Sunday’s death as well… we all feel… but we’re not getting anywhere by doing nothing. She did a great thing for us, now it’s time to do a great thing for her… and you know what is it, right?
He caressed her head slightly and kept saying.
We must defeat Reinhild and prove that the Princess’ sacrifice wasn’t in vain… but I can’t do it without you!
He tried to look in her eyes.
Your support helped me in the worst of situations, and I will need that very same support once more. Can you help me? For the Princess?

Delilah shakes with rage, her cute little tufts quivering.

Did you not listen to a word I said? Leave her alone, you bastard! You killed Sunday, isn’t that enough?

She takes several steps forward and SLAPS Lord Makar across the face.

Don’t you dare talk about “for the princess”! She did everything for you, and how did you repay her? By playing around with the hearts of three women!

Did you ever see her as anything other than a princess? Did you ever see her as just Sunday? Even once?

Or was she just another girl who wanted to hang off your arm?

She glares at him and looks like she wants to hit him again before Albert comes up behind her and grabs her shoulder, saying “Is this really the best time to do this? We could just explain to Lord Makar that thanks to your dance we are safe for the evening.”

Delilah June 29, 2010, 10:35 PM EST.

She looks up at the both of them fighting, finally speaking in a low voice, her eyes glistening from the tears.
Makar didn’t kill Princess Sunday, I did. It was all my fault for being careless. I killed one of my only friends.
She hugs her knees and looks back down to the ground.

(Damn, I’m taking way too long to post! And I vote to a proper burial.)
He turned back to Delilah, getting up. After listening to her first anounce, he frowns.
Of course I care! That’s exactly why I can’t let her death be in vain!
He kept listening, now silent. When it seemed she finished, tears started to flow from his face.
You’re right… I should have done more, not just for her, but for the whole group… I was being useless the whole time and now… she’s gone… because of me…
He looked down, trying to hold his sobs.
I were supposed to protect my team, but I failed, letting all that happen… you’re right, get your sleep. I’ll look for my shield… she gifted it to me before I set venture to retrieve the sword of light and I just don’t feel the same without it.
He cleaned his face and walked away, looking at Lieselotte.
It’s not your fault… it’s mine.

Delilah is surprised by the response of the vampire… she looked so out of it, she thought nothing could shake her from her sorrow. At her words, the woman shakes her head, forgetting Lord Makar entirely to kneel by the shaken woman, her chest heaving as she calms down a little.

No… its not your fault, Lady. I spoke with Sunday while she was preparing for the ritual…

She bites her lips, thinking for a moment, then continues.

She… she told me that no one ever saw her as a person. She said that was what was special - friends, who saw her not as the princess, but as Sunday. You, by saying friend…

That’s more precious to her than anything else.

(Man, with that birthday party it’s tough to stand a whole minute in front of my computer!)
Makar looks back once more, looking at Delilah cheering the Lady up, thing that HE should be doing.
What am I doing?! She’s right… Reinhild may attack sooner or later, but I have more important things to think about right now!
He walked back to the three and started to apologize.
You’re right, Delilah… you always were right… I was too worried about a sudden attack from Reinhild that I couldn’t realise anything at all…
His honest tone couldn’t stop showing his concern.
I really feel for Sunday’s death… really, really do… I thought I had to be strong about that, but now I realise that I was just being weak! I really care for everyone’s safety, and my concern really don’t let me think properly!
He made a pause, bending his knee, and finished.
I know I’m not worth of forgiviness… but… I still have to say… I’m sorry.
He couldn’t hold the guilty feeling any longer along with his sob.
I… just tried to help, but I see how I can really help…

The paladin does not hear Carter. With one final strike, the tree comes crashing down, and the paladin is in tears.

I’m… I’m sorry… I’M SO SORRY BROTHER!!!

An explosion of light shines from Icarus, and he unleashes a sword beam into the forest. It cuts through the nearest tree and the trees behind it like butter. Icarus falls back sobbing, dropping his sword by his side. It seems to be glowing and what look like wings of light seem to be projected from the sword’s hilt (see my link in the signup thread “Fleetblade”).

*sobbing* I’m sorry… you… you won’t… I won’t let him…..

His voice trails off into sobbing.

Sir Icarus June 29, 2010, 11:36 PM EST.

“UH…” Carter’s voice also trailed off. He jolted at the destruction of the forest and watched the wings spawn from the sword with a deep curiosity. However, he finally got the hint and retreated back to the camp.

I’m the one who doesn’t deserve forgiveness. I was the one who lost control when I saw the Sunday and Makar…if he never came to chase me in the woods, he never would have fallen from the tree. Because he fell from the tree, I unknowingly infected him when we kissed.
Fresh tears begin to soak her fur again.
After all I had said to her, she forgave me. The last thing I told her was not to do anything she might regret, and she told me not to worry. I knew what was going to happen, I suspected it when she began to talk to everyone and I still let it happen. I had so many opportunities to prevent this…
She pulls her knees tighter as the guilt eats away. In her head, she recounts the numerous errors in her judgement that allowed for the Princess to perish.

Lady Lieselotte June 29, 2010, 11:43 PM EST.

Comment ID #51830

Delilah looks up as Lord Makar returns. She doesn’t acknowledge him at first, her ears back, but at his words nods slowly. Delilah’s mouth works as she tries to find the right words, searching for them. Eventually, she speaks.

It is not my place to forgive, and I know you were… in no condition to do anything today. But…

We’re all scared. We’re terrified that the day after tommorrow, some of us won’t wake up. Some of us will be like Sunday, or Agammemnon, or the others - dead, or worse.

When you start… start telling someone who is grieving to keep watch with you, it tells us that you don’t care.

She was my… our… friend. And I thought she was yours too, but… she felt like she wasn’t. She felt you always saw her as the princess, first, and as a person only second. She threw her life away so YOU would be happy with someone else.

Killing Rienhild isn’t why she saved you. She saved you because she loved you and wanted you to be happy.

She wanted to show you that she was brave… I think she showed us all that she had more courage than any of us.

If you apologize to anyone, it should be Lady Lieselotte, for making her feel as though she was a monster rather than a person once more.

She then looks to Lady Lieselotte.

And you…

You denied everything back at the castle, but… you do love Lord Makar. It is not your fault he kissed you. It is not your fault that he threw himself after you, after he was with the princess.

You have every right to chase the man you love. It is his job *she shoots a commanding look at Lord Makar* to be faithful to his beloved, just as you are to them.

It is not your fault you were upset. I…

Delilah bites her lip.

I was upset when I first saw him with you. When I first saw him with her. But it is wrong to hate them. You’re… a good person, no matter how much you deny it.

And while I want to blame you for what happened… I can’t. It would be wrong.

She did what she did for him… but also for you. She thought that was worth her life.

Only you can tell us if it was wasted or not.

You may have lost a friend… but you still have some left.

The dancer smiles a weak smile… but it is a genuine and warm one.

Her death is no more your fault than it is mine… she said her farewells to me in her own way, and I… it felt really final. But she seemed so much better after we spoke, I thought she…

She told me I would be welcome whenever I came to the castle… I didn’t think it would be like this. So its not your fault… after all, it was I who told her I was not brave enough to die for one I loved.

Makar listened to Delilah carefully and got up.
What she did was really brave… and I really should have saw her as more than just a princess… and…
He sat down besides Lieselotte.
… it’s not your fault in no possible way, Lieselotte. Nobody can predict what will or not happen. I have to apologize for everything I made you suffer so far… you’re… my dearest companion… I can’t see you sad like that… it hurts…
He cleaned her tears from her face. Can you forgive me?
(Phew! I hope it’s good enough…)

Lord Makar June 29, 2010, 11:56 PM EST.

Comment ID #51841

No, there is nothing for me to forgive as you’ve done nothing wrong. I am the one who should have been wise and experienced, and protected you. I should be have been the one in that ritual not Sunday. It was my mistake and she payed the price. I’ll never be able to forgive myself for the role she played I should have been in. When I look at you, I’ll remember her soul entering you, filling in the broken gaps I created. Even if you forgive me, Delilah forgives, if everyone forgives me, I’ll never be able to forgive myself.
She mumbles her words, clearly still in pain. Words may help dull the pain, but it would appear only time may cure it.

[murmuring to himself:] Sunday, you… Why… WHY?!

Dammit… DAMMIT!

He… He saved my life, much like Sunday saved Makar. We were fighting a dark mage, whose identity was masked, and I was struck in the heart with a special spell, designed to taint me and turn me to his control. My brother, he… He saved me. He gave his life and his holy magic to save me. As a result, I gained control of powerful light-based magic, but I couldn’t control them. After seeing his dead body, I… I don’t remember much after that. I woke up in the kingdom, and was escorted to the castle, where I was knighted as a paladin. It was partially luck, but I will never forgeet what my brother did for me, and I will avenge him! I WILL!

…I will… You’ll see…
