Funny isn’t it. the same process that is used to turn IBM into HAL, when used in reverse gives us JCN, which could be pronounced like a real name just like HAL (Jason).

Okay, I’ll redo my list to show I’m a good sport:

1. Sue’s play (and isn’t Jessica involved in that somehow?).
2. Molly and Justin becoming a permanent A-list cast members with character development.
3. Mike and Lucy redeeming themselves to each other.
4. Another Tess-drags-Lucy-and-Mike-along vacation.

Like 75+ pages? 100+? I don’t know, but I liked the change in scenery, you know? The beach, the forest, even the hotel was nice. And Taysh has improved as an artist since then, so it’d be interesting to see even if the details were vague.

@Spradic Zoom: I make sure to kill people quickly so I have enough spare time to post. And I’m making up for the weeks I missed.

BTW, did The Powers That Be ever post the cracks in the ice comics somewhere where I can find them, because I have not seen about half of them.

@ Ninja: Here you go. Best I can do. Still, you miss the epic “You don’t own me!” comic where Lucy tells off Mike for being jealous at her coming out of Liam’s house, and he backs down hard.

but i just won’t

She’s saying Mike doesn’t end up with anybody. :O

S’okay if the story’s set in stone. You don’t hit up an author to finish the story your way just because you don’t like where it’s taking you. You be a man, damn it, and see it through to the end (and you don’t RAGEQUIT just because Mike doesn’t end up with Lucy or Sandy or Daisy or Sue, you follow through because you respect the author and you love the characters and you owe it to yourself not to be a pussy and just see what happens to them as far as the author takes you).

Just read the whole comic. pretty engaging, normally I’m not much for these drama comics.
I would actually like to see Mike&Lucy together, but as that seems to be one of the hanging points of the comic, so it’ll probably never happen.

what I would like to see is that Mike as a character to become more than a character about rejected feelings from female persona, atleast that’s what it mostly boils down to.

@ Taysh: I’m actually glad you have everything laid out, seeing as how some webcomics take years telling a story without actually going anywhere. AFTER AWHILE, IT’S LIKE LISTENING TO STREET CORNER HOBOS RANTING ABOUT THE END OF THE WORLD. *cackles, gets put in a straight-jacket and is wheeled out on a cart*

So this might be a little unorthodox, but:

1. We discover that Mike has some kind of reoccurring talent that influences or directs the story, other than being good in math, running, or swimming. Play an instrument, be writer, baton twirling, or do something. (I thought Lucy have a singing voice was a pretty good idea, and it also did well to add a little dynamic to the story. ‘Twould be nice to see it for some other characters as well).

2. A little redemption for Lucy… Sorry :(, I feel like she’s sort of lost what made her cool when she became THAT desperate with Paulo. I got my fingers crossed that a chapter or something will come up to restore that image. Doubt it, as the comic has portrayed her as feeling any redemption is necessary. I realize she wasn’t in her right mind… But… That scene just made it seem like she didn’t love Mike at all, she’s just a clingy little plump. So when I say redemption, I mean to say, prove she actually loves Mike. I’m not convinced at all.

3. Add religion, Baptist, Mormon, Muslim… Dunno… I’m weird… it won’t happen… But it would add an interesting twist, at least for me. Religion is a funny ground to tread, for good reason.

4. More conclusions. Seeing the push and pull of a conflicting plot is fun, but I would like to see more Abbey and Daisy situations. That situation, and Lucy finally confessing. I loved that as well. Hopefully we get to see more of that reoccurring for more main relationships, especially Sandy and Mike. That plots hasn’t gone anywhere since… I’m not sure how far back, but pretty far right? Then again, this a webcomic. Got to keep the plot going, right :)?

That’s it. Lovin’ it!

I seem to recall Taeshi mentioning something about religion once and how it isn’t going to happen

(nameless) June 29, 2010, 6:48 PM EST.

Comment ID #51721

It’s likely for the best if religion doesn’t get involved.

See, religion-as-a-plot-point, as I see it, has a lot of potential. Both in the positive and negative sense.

If used the wrong way, it can weaken the plot, ruin the dialogue, break the general atmosphere of the comic, etc. and so forth. It can also alienate readers because, let’s face it, no matter how one person feels about religion and how many people they are on their side, there’s going to be a ton of others who disagree. A writer can easily deplete over half of his or her fanbase, either by being too ham-fisted about it (see “Better Days” and “Original Life” by Jay Naylor) or by not taking it seriously enough and just treating the whole thing like a joke.

On the other hand, if handled well (i.e. tastefully), the religion thing can deepen the fictional world and the characters themselves, make said characters easier to relate to, and, yes, even improve the plot, because religion, no matter how you feel about it, is a real life phenomenon. And no matter how much some people complain about it, it’s not going away anytime soon, or probably ever.

With all that being said, I think BCB would be better off without mentioning religion, mostly because doing it right is hard work and Taeshi is already going strong in the delicious drama department. Adding religion in now would just risk the quality of an already fantastic webcomic.

tl,dr: BCB is probably better off not trying to handle religion, ever.

ah, once again!!

- more epic medival battles.
- mike being less gay.
- chirp evolving into a shiny fearow.
- lily turning to his sky form.

Flavio June 29, 2010, 9:52 PM EST.

Comment ID #51792

-MikexSandy gradually turning back into MikexLucy without the latter pairing realizing it until it’s too late, and then being unsure how to handle it

-Another run-in with the gang from Confrontation, though accidental and contrary to the LeaderCat’s plan, with more action and Mike showing what he can do when not inebriated

-Augustus either breaking it off with the gang and joining the BCB group, performing a noble sacrifice, or becoming conflicted and assisting both sides behind each others’ backs for a while

-Abbey’s anger situation rapidly deteriorating, to the point where becomes justifiably afraid for Daisy’s safety

-@Rasputin,
Fantastically said, you have a point. When I said a funny ground to tread, that’s essentially what I was trying to get at. I’m aware of the difficulties, which is why the concept intrigued me.
It had crossed my mind, the overall problem, but your details are far more refined. Nonetheless, as I’ve read, I had seen potential here and there, and thought it would grant an interesting dynamic. But even at this point or any point were it to be introduced into the comic, I can’t see the current target audience keeping. Simply because it would, by chance of fact, alter the personality of the characters and style of the story. That would be a depressing resolve. It doesn’t fit.

Still wish Mike had some kind of talent though… Something awesome… Like overtone chanting /s.

There is a difference between religion and idiocy masquerading as religion. But the line has been blurred since there are many protestant churches now (and Scientology [not a real religion]). Then you have the In-Your-Face-Religious-Hypocrites.

But there are intelligently religious people out there!

1) Some McCain or McCainXSue character development. McCain has been around long enough to deserve some serious screen time.

2) A reconciliation between Mike and Lucy, whether it be romantic, or just a return to friendship.

3) Jasmine remains a major player in the story.

4) An epic rematch between the would be rapist and Lucy, preferably with much loss of blood on the rapists part.

@ Xellien: I think Taeshi once posted a pic with Lucy singing and Mike playing an electric guitar. She mentioned that while Mike had a nice voice, he preferred to rock out. Don’t know if that is cannon or not.

Of course, Mike also has really good reflexes. I’m fairly sure that will become important somewhere down the line.

Rasputin June 30, 2010, 3:32 AM EST.

Comment ID #51988

Heh, I didn’t mean for my “thought” to spawn a discussion. It was just an intrigue o.o…

Hopefully the bias of assuming all theists as idiots isn’t present here. Because let’s face it! That’s just plain silly! Not to say there aren’t idiots though, sadly.

So yeah, my new list:

1. Mike converts to Scientology.

2. Lucy converts to Awesomeism

3. Paulo converts to Sexism.

4. Sexism is recognized as a religion, and I stop diggin’ this hole.

-@Rasputin
Haven’t seen that one, I’ll have to keep a look out for it though. Mike playing the Guitar though would definitely be awesome.

Religion makes Taeshi very, very uncomfortable. I don’t think there’s even a remote possibility of anything religious occurring in BCB, even if it’s just a parody.

Regardless of pairings I can see a restored friendship between Mike and Lucy happening. Still I wonder what form this revived friendship would taking as a heartfelt confession of love isn’t exactly something that can be undone or forgotten.

Comment ID #52021

@ Hysteria(sarcastic*Ninja) and Xellien:

I have a hunch that idiocy can be found to occur roughly equally across the ENTIRE spectrum of belief systems (you know, in terms of percentage of adherents, not actual numbers). Though, yeah, there are definitely exceptions where said fraction is substantially higher. To be blunt, it’s the fact that people in general can be really stupid, not that believer/unbeliever equals retard.

A more realistic viewpoint to take is that, while someone may subscribe to a set of beliefs that differ from one’s own, one should just assume that they are intelligent if mistaken, rather than being irredeemably stupid. Also remember that, technically, there’s always the possibility that one’s own viewpoint is wrong, even if one is pretty damn sure that he or she is in the right. The search for the truth and all that.

Comment ID #52031

Yes, of course. Sorry to derail the topic.

…Although Taeshi did jump in as well.

But seriously, back on topic, hopefully.

Some other things I kind of want to see:

-More involvement of Molly and Justin

-A look into the future once the series ends (since it will likely cut off sometime during or at the end of junior year)

-More drama to be had once the play starts up for real, rather than said play simply wrapping up stuff as Sue had intended (it would be just a bit too easy otherwise and would probably make Sue look like a know-it-all

-Tess not be thrown out of the comic when college rolls around for her
