SPARKLY VAMPIRE IMHO!
But seriously, she’s adorable in that picture. I just wanna hug her.

Well this has to be some pretty bad timing.
Ahh well the game was still fun.
And whoo I was the only guy to get laid.

…but their adventures are far from over

No makar in that picture? A shame. It also would have benefitted from more mccardell

I am going to try and be as constructive as possible with my criticism here, so don’t be offended. The idea of the game was great, but it just didn’t turn out that well, especially towards the end. And therein lays the first, and arguably the biggest, problem. The game lasted way too long. It ended in the 10th day of game-play. I believe the longest before that was five days, half the time. This was mostly because of the weekend where you weren’t around. I don’t know why you couldn’t show up, so I won’t try and blame you for that, I understand that real life can be more important than a game.
The second issue, and it seems a lot of people disagree with me on this point, was removing the random element. Without the random element, this is no longer a game, it’s nothing more than a story with multiple contributors. I know that there will always be a large story part to these RPs and I wouldn’t have it any other way, but at least when it was random we had a goal: to act intelligently and do our best to survive against the randomness. (Admittedly though, I did feel a bit ripped off when the randomness ended because I had died due to this randomness)
Third issue was drama. Yes drama is good, but when you lay it on this thick, it just looks bad. When even the comedy relief character (Carter) has to participate in the drama just to keep up, things are getting a little bit rediculous.
Last issue was the trolls, there is unfortunately little that can be done about them.

The random element Kinda presents a conundrum. The randomness is what determines success or failure (as opposed to saying “Stabs and kills so-and-so” and having it immediately become canon. That is unfair and defeats the purpose.) However, there were many problems with the organization of the battle system; it was essentially thrown together in a hurry. It needed more description of the enemy (weaknesses, strengths, abilities, etc.) and more influence from characters (e.g. the “clever action” bonus shouldn’t be the only bonus; elemental clashes and stats should play a larger role). Lastly, we needed timing organization, such as a strictly regulated turn-based element. There were numerous issues originating from people posting conflicting or “ninja’d” actions. We needed a posting order or some similar organizational tool to prevent this. Also, time zone differences and metagaming got in the way.

I wonder if anyone has the experience to implement a proper D&D battle style for the supposed sequel to this.
Comment ID #53604
(This is not a game of D&D. D&D is very different from this. This is more of a freeform roleplay, and trying to implement a crappy system in it was a bad idea.
The idea of having people semi-randomly die IS cool… but the problem is that it can lead to incoherent storytelling. If you look at the posts, for example, Delilah, Lady Lieselotte, and Lord Makar had enormously more posts than Princess Sunday and Albert, who in turn had far more posts than ect.
In other words, if you kill off someone at random, you can kill off someone who has next to no impact (Agammemnon) or someone who has far TOO much impact (had Lord Makar and Lady Lieselotte died, the RP would have been pretty screwed).
Moreover, it can be frustrating. The game also lasted long enough that people really got attached to their characters, which further harmed the ability to do that stuff well. Random deaths are cool when you are messing around, but when things get too serious things can fall apart.
The biggest flaws with the RP in my eyes were as follows:
1) The villain sucked. We really had little motivation for hunting her; she didn’t kill a single person with her attack, yet 20 people (well, more like 16) went after her in the most disproportionate reaction ever. The villain did not do anything impressive at all, and we had no real reason to go out there and kill her. In the ENTIRE RP, she killed ONE character - Sean.
2) The battles were lame. We didn’t really feel like we were doing anything that epic. This was in part the fault of the players, and in part the fault of the GM (Hebs), but it was bad.
3) There weren’t interesting or meaningful choices presented to the players. While we generated some of our own, the story itself was entirely linear and choiceless. This is okay for some things, but less so for semi-freeform RP.
4) Hebs tried to get us to care about the villain, but we had no reason to do so. Nor did we care about the king.
Had the game been more freeform from the start, we could have potentially had a better go of it as a survival RP, but the plot itself was poorly suited for such - it could have been better, but it would never have been very optimal.
This being Hebs’ first attempt at GMing (I think), its hardly surprising there were such problems.
That being said, it ended up awesome thanks to the players, particularly Maverik, making for an awesome story, and the character interaction between a number of characters was very solid. I especially enjoyed interacting with Lady Lieselotte, Albert, Princess Sunday, and Carter, but there were a number of other players, such as McCardell and Lily, who I enjoyed.)

Why are you still posting in your character name?
Comment ID #53622
(Because I didn’t change it back.)

Or maybe he really likes to be Delilah?
Comment ID #53624
Well La Commie, now you can put up your long awaited murder mystery (After a break of course, I assume our actors will want one after 10 days of RPing in a row)
Comment ID #53625
I assumed so too. So time frame on putting it up guys? I was thinking at the start of Monday morning (EST time) So you could have all day to form relationships and such but do you need longer?
Comment ID #53626
I’ll be on a series of family trips, so I won’t be able to take part in anything until maybe next Sunday at best >.
Comment ID #53627
(Sounds good)
Comment ID #53629
Morning is a good idea, and I’m fine with Monday. However, depending on who’s around you may want to wait until Tuesday morning for the first kill and go from there.
Comment ID #53634
Oh I was going to wait till Tuesday to kill, don’t worry. And sorry Rukral but I can’t wait that long to start it up, I personally haven’t played an RPG in three weeks and I’m dieing for one. If we’re still going by then feel free to jump in.
Comment ID #53642
Haha that’s because you missed this time-consuming flop. It wears on you after a while.
(Sorry Hebs, but it was a flop. Not saying it’s a bad thing, live and learn and all, but it needed work.)
Comment ID #53665
Yeah, it’s np. I probably need a long break from rp anyways, seeing how I’m gonna be hosting and playing in two at the same time ![]()
Comment ID #53684
Aight cool, and good luck with that. Seems EXTREEEEMMMMM!
Comment ID #53700
What’s all this about Commie and her rp and such?
Actually, I’m going to bed.. I’ll read in the morning or something….
Comment ID #53782
Don’t worry Eelord it was just saying that I’m starting up the next MMG on Monday cause I said I would a month ago.
Comment ID #53823
Well, I was considering putting up a thread for comments on the rp, but it seems I’l kinda late now. ^_^’
I won’t bother commenting on how to improve it since I haven’t taken enough thought to analyze it, but I will say that it was a good plan that wasn’t executed as well as it could have been. While I enjoyed playing, I can see why others (Especially Pixel, Icaras, and Rukral) may not have enjoyed it - respectively, due to reliance on luck, heavy condensation of posts/drama, and somewhat amateur storytelling/modding. I hope that the mod of this game (Hebs) has learned a good deal from modding, and I am interested in how Pixel and Rukral will host the next games.
Also, Hebs forgot to mention that Carter goes back to the past after critically failing so that he can BE IN THE SEQUEL PLEASE. ![]()

Correct me if I’m wrong, but La Commie’s was the school idea right?
Comment ID #54093
Yup, that’s it. Bringing back to basics cause I was too lazy to think of anything else!
I jest, I actually like the setting I came up with and for all you pervs this means most of the cast is in school uniforms.
Comment ID #54094
Wait, does this also mean that the cast is the actual cast, and not BCB characters remade in some sort of weird setting?
Comment ID #54095
No they are still a new cast, just set as teachers and students and with funny names.
Comment ID #54106
Cn’t wait ‘till tomorrow, been a while since the last MM and I am ready to get going.
Comment ID #54123
I know! I’m thinking around 10ish EST time, no murders the first day just pick your players and interact with the others to get a feel for the game. I also made some pictures to start the game off cause I’m cool like that so I might post them as teasers tonight.
Head back to the forum index.
