People and things that kill you faith in humanity

I think the first time I lost faith in humanity… is when I discovered certain people rape other people. Whether it’s children, women or men raping men. I pretty much think this world went to hell. At that point I decided I won’t have kids until I’m 30 and give this world 6 years to re-think itself.

I had people close to me be raped, and it’s changed their way of life completely.

Hell,it’s the only thing we truly excel at.

You guys have some pretty easily shaken faith in people.

Stuff like, EA, Twilight and Facebook being ‘reasons to lose faith in humanity’ are pretty funny.

If your life is blessed enough that “Oh my god sparking vampires and facebook” factor at all into your equation of ‘worst thing I can think of that’s happening to me’, then it seems that humanity is doing pretty good to supply you with a world where, you know the worst thing that’s happening to you is Farmville updates.

Greediness seems to be one of the things that kills my faith, yes I know it’s actually good, greediness can make people do awesome things like inventions and stuff, but with the wrong hands and too much power… Well, remember 1939-1945? There.
Nowadays the worst thing that kills everyone’s faith in humanity are retards, no, not the mentally retards, it’s not their fault… Poor people… Anyway, what I’m talking about are people that could totally be a nice, intelligent and even cool person, prefers to act retarded just to get laughs (in the internet we have a term called troll amirite?)

There, I said it, Greediness will one day kill all of us with nukes and wars, while Retards (aka attention whores) are gonna be the world’s dominant species.

Deep stuff… No need to answer me, I won’t have time to read it =P.

Xydrek says, as he hops on his flying carpet to go fight evil dragons and wizards;

“I don’t have time to read posts, but I must give you this kernel of advice! Farewell topic!” *woosh*

Although I can’t say that I disagree that greed and pride (which is sort of where need for attention comes from), in malformed proportions, can’t/doesn’t lead to many (most of?) the world’s problems. I don’t think most people would disagree.

This is what has killed what is left of my faith in humanity

The last thing I look for in a political candidate is his faith. It’s irrelevant to his job. And if Michelle is a closet lesbian, that’s her business. But if the Chief is spending his office hours watching Youtube then may mass extinction take us all.

“I meant to communicate the idea that the president could be female.
It’s a streach but there was already the issue with his birth certificate.”

These posts made me lose my faith in humanity.

Honestly, what makes me lose faith is Fox News :l Nothing gets me more depressed than watching MSNBC talk about how republicans are freaking out about the dumbest shit and Democrats are too freaken pussy to stand up to themselves. The idea of trying to compromise with the uncompromisable deeply upsets me, and it makes me hope they seriously get their act together because the other side doesn’t know what the hell they’re talking about and humanity is too freaken stupid to research and would rather be spoonfed lies from fox.

Politics in general are very tragic and sometimes I find myself sobbing thinking about why people are so freaken stupid.

here’s a pleasant fact though taesh,
while there will always be conservatives, the general social and political groups always move slowly towards the progressive. the old bastards die and take their prejudices with them. the new generation is slightly more progressive than the last.

Taeshi and ILB make good points. Watching the news, I can’t remember the last good piece of news since the Chilean Miners thing. I suppose good news doesn’t sell as well. And this thread, while surprisingly on-topic, is quite depressing. Ah well. What can we do but make an optimism thread? :)

Elliot November 22, 2010, 8:27 PM EST.

We tend to only stay on-topic when we are allowed to complain. ^_^

But yes, I am for that idea - or better yet, to hijack this one. ^_^

ILB November 22, 2010, 8:52 PM EST.

A purposeful derailment? Can it be done? Well, I’m happy to put my neck on the chopping block if this goes wrong:

What makes you happy and thankful for being able to get up in the morning, aside from BCB?

Well, here we go!

(Sorry about this, (nameless)!)

Elliot November 22, 2010, 8:55 PM EST.

Comment ID #131702

Tee hee. ^_^

Well, to start, I could quote (albeit I have never been further from a paraphrase) Melvin: “Oh, life, the universe, everything…”

To expand, I could mention my friends, music, family, the BCB community (although that might be integrated into BCB), my studies and their consequences…

Shortly put; too much to put down in writing. ^_^

ILB November 22, 2010, 9:01 PM EST.

Comment ID #131713

I have this horrible feeling that this will end up as me, ILB, and maybe a few others discussing optimism while everyone else is complaining about… almost everything, last time I checked. Oh well :)

For me, it’s the small group of people that geniunly make me smile, regardless of what’s happening. Strangely, you guys are a large part of that. Jerk’s blunt attitude, pretty much everyone’s art and several other people’s refreshingly bright attitudes are a cure for a bad day. Plus the usual list: music, literature and Lindor chocolate :P And, final strange quirk I half-promise, the sky. On a clear day, I feel good. Overcast and rainy, I feel down. Not quite sure why.

Well, me and ILB have kicked things off, it’s up to you! *gestures vaguely into the crowd, and upward to the shadowed rafters to where Ninja might be/Jerk on his space-laser platform *

ILB November 22, 2010, 9:45 PM EST.

It would probably be the fact that, with all it’s flaws, we actually live on a very beautiful world. The whole existence of life on this planet was because of millions of things going right to make life possible. And somehow there was the creation of the first life form, a predacessor(sp?) to the amazing life forms that exist now. There is such beauty in the world from the most majestic vista to the smallest cellular function in a microbe. It all happened by some unbelievably small chance and somehow we are here with the mental capabilities to understand and appreciate it’s value.

Treeless Druid November 22, 2010, 9:46 PM EST.

Treeless Druid, you win a Smiley award. That was amazing, I doubt it could have been put better. Our planet is flawed, but without them we wouldn’t have a perspective of how good we have things, even on the smallest scales. I’m feeling better already :)

You just stepped on so many toes.

Munch November 23, 2010, 2:43 AM EST.

Comment ID #132032

Pardon me if that was short and to the point, I do have an explanation.

Trust is when you can rely on something because it has consistently done what you expect in the past. For example, I trust my best friend, because there have been many situations in the past in which he had my back, so to speak.

Faith is putting your fate in the hands of something else which has never before proven itself to be reliable or true. One example is the belief in a deity. Faith is extremely less viable than Trust, and so Trust is sufficiently better because it has hard facts and numerous repeated trials to back it up.

Because of it’s inadequacy, I cannot find it efficient or reasonable, let alone useful, to have faith in anything.
