No he fell in it. Not in front of it. I assumed he became pillow king and now lives a happy life some where in New Mexico…

Well, you could always go Mab’s route (of DMFA fame, www.missmab.com). She got Dan’s owner to sign him over to her… and another character’s owner died! Clearly, murder is your best bet for acquiring the rights to characters!

Incidentally, how much larger has the comic audience gotten since then?
