Requests and Creating Characters

Comment ID #81695

By the time this topic has been posted i have read all the comics up until the current one in about 2 days, and empathetic me suddenly wants to be a part of that world…

So i propose that people with an account could create characters of their own as well as storylines and association with existing characters (if any) and if BCB’s creator (Taeshi right?) likes it, then they could be featured in the comic itself.

If they work well with the other characters and storylines, then they may appear more than once or perhaps regularly, but again, the creator will be the only one with a right to say if a character gets in or not.

What you guys think? ^_^

Did you not know that most of the fancharacters are fakes made by Taeshi only to advertise the comic?

i didnt know there were any fancharacters…

well, like i said, Taeshi would have the final say, and they would be more like one-off supporting characters to help the story along abit of just provide comic relief or something. They wouldn’t be permanent and simply appear in a single chapter at best.

Did’t think that the comments on this site would be quite as harsh as “no”. Care to explain why? i dont really see a problem

Mh.
If i recollect right Taeshi doesn’t bode well with fancharacter and fanstory, since they twist her story in other ways.
I dislike the idea of intromitting anything into someonelse story.
Especially since half of the fancharacters seems to be in love with Lucy…
Fancharacters should never interact heavily with the main cast. One thing is creating stories and comics, but never to be seen as canon. Just like alternate realities. they fit better.
And also the sheer amount of fancharacters could simply overwhelm the rest of the cast.

Not unless Taeshi herself creates a thread like this.

@Gnukko

I see your point, but like i said, Taeshi would decide if any fancharacters made it, and if u want criteria, i have got some:

The character must:
- Have a decent reason to be in the comic in the first place
- Have a decent reason to talk to the main cast or for the main cast to interact with them
- Have a decent and believable backstory that isnt too long
- Must not have some stupid fantasy feature or super power (cuz thats dumb)
- Their personality must be well explained and
- A good drawing of the character must be produced

Taeshi has every right to choose whether or not the character enters the comic and also how long they will be in it, what they say, do and how they impact the other characters (if at all, as most existing supporting background characters barely impact the story or main cast anyway, for example Alec McCain, Sue, Carlson and Kizuna when she was alive.)

Hope this shines a light on my idea

So, the main cast wouldnt be overwhelmed and the fans ultimately have no control over the part the character plays. Taeshi would decide whether the character would majorly impact the story and characters dramatically or whether they simply appear in a few panels as comic relief or brief support.

So i dont know why some people are still putting harsh responses (@ J. Vincero) cuz its not like the fans would control anything: Taeshi would be the only one with any say in the matter, whether the fans like it or not.

So calm down, ime doubtful that Taeshi would even think to actually agree to such a drastic change yet. Ime just introducing an interesting concept that may inject some more versatility into the comic, and seeing how it would go down with a few of the fans.

Ime not saying as friendly as i have been again - stop giving blunt and harsh comments please, i know ive recieved a lot of negative feedback but i could do with some positive outlooks on it.

Look, that’s great and all, but it’s not a matter of criterion anymore. This comic started out that way, but character insertion just isn’t as appropriate as it used to be because Taeshi has planned points so far ahead that there’s little to no room anymore. The fan characters that still make it in come out of special circumstances that Taeshi finds really really appealing, as opposed to a “I made a character he has a backstory can he be in your comic?” It smacks of self-insertion, it’s imposing. Let the story happen as it will and if Taysh finds any diamonds in the rough among her friends, then that’ll become part of the story too. But I don’t think this is the way to do it, you dig?

This feedback is negative because you’re not the first and you won’t be the last to come up with this post, and we are all too jaded to give you the proper response you might deserve.

Look: I’m trying to be civil right now. As anyone can tell you, this is a serious stretch for me, so bear with me. I know what you’re saying on one level, but all I hear is (and I suspect this is true for everybody else who’s posted so far) “HAI TAESHI I HAS A CHARACTER HE IS KAWAII CAN I BE IN UR COMIC PLZ? LOL!”

Short answer: no.

Long answer: I already feel kind of paranoid that I have inserted characters here and there because once lulu publishes the book do I have to pay royalties or something? It’s frightening, so I have made more of an effort to exclude serious use of fancharacters. There’s still some cameos in future, and admittedly I’m the type to get enamored at times and make exceptions (ala Liam)

To be honest I find this frustrating because while it’s flattering, I’ve had too many negative experiences in which someone would try and force their fancharacter onto me. I feel jaded towards them now, and bar Liam no fancharacter has impressed me.

I rather use my own characters to tell THEIR story. Because the comic is about them.

So yeah sorry bro you can make characters if you want but don’t expect me to use them. BCB is taking a HUGE turn in December, so yeah things are planned.

k thanks for the feedback. Wasnt expecting Taeshi herself to comment! wow 0.0

i was aware of the excuciatingly small chance that my concept would be taken into consideration, i just felt that i would do myself an injustice by not saying something.

And i agree, Liam was a good character to bring in, however, my reason for introducing this concept yet again was to try to make a character that would switch the love focus from Lucy to Mike.

I’m a bit of a writer myself, having started to write a trilogy of ‘Lord of the Rings’ style novels. (i hate myself for it, but i stopped hating so much a long time ago) and i think that Lucy has had the love focus for a little too long. Maybe it would be a little more original for Mike to be the one to recieve a lecture of relationships.

For example, a one-off character with a conflicted past of his own warns Mike of the rippling effect he’ll have on his own future if he continues to pursue Sandy and reject Lucy.

If a new character wont do, it may be better for an existing character to do that… the only one that would be fitting though would be Alec McCain, as too little is known about him in the first place to contradict anything, and his very closed nature and observant habits make him the perfect existing character to talk to Mike about love relationships and impacts on the future.
