Bittersweet Candy Bowl

Soooo, I actually drew something to share with you all. It’s a three page intro to my fancomic, “Cafe au Lait”. Now, these first three pages don’t feature any of the BCB cast, but they DO introduce three of my characters, so YAY!

I apologize for the fact that these three pages SUCK SO BAD. Finals are coming up and I was in somewhat of a hurry to do them. Now, it’ll take a while for the first REAL chapter to be done… because of finals and my two week summer vacation (which means no scanner).

I agree with Maverik, nothing at all wrong with those pages.

I love the second page, if only for the Keyboard Cat joke. xD

I like the third one the most cause it’s a monologue.

I do enjoy monologues, it’s like a little conversation between me and the character. Where they’re just talking to me and me alone. Thank you Mr. Keyboard Cat. Thank you for the pleasant conversation.

@Maverik: Hahaha, well I guess I can be a bit too critical when it comes to my own comics…

@TheRay: Sammy will always bring up the internet jokes.

@ToastyJester: THE THIRD ONE GAVE ME THE MOST SMACK. ARGH. However, I am quite happy with that page in the end, despite the fact that my hand started cramping up. *he made the coffee~!*

@Taeshi: Sam is definitely my favorite character to draw, even though I pretty much created him to explain why Larken doesn’t live with his parents when I first decided to draw comics with Larken when I was in middle school…

More feedback would be appreciated.

I’m not terribly good at feedback, but I can say that I like the third page a lot. ^_^

Also, I think I’ve seen that style somewhere… Have you posted any of your drawings online before? Or is this me imagining things?

Hmmm…. Other than my deviantART, no… Can’t say that I have. Maybe it does look like something you’ve seen somewhere before and you just can’t remember what it is…

Sigh, I wish I retained any artistic talent from when i was younger. Cause, I’ve always like to stuff like this…

Just to say I like the feel of the café story. The humour is witty. I can’t say owt about the drawings though because you said you are rushing for finals. I’ll have to see a page you drew with time to comment on them.

Well, anyways, since it will be a while before I can upload new pages… who wants to know more about the characters?

Oh, and here’s the now outdated relationship chart which I used as a basic way to refer to how the characters interact with each other. Now, it has changed a bit, (Cassie is now an only child, Larken will talk back to Sammy sometimes) and there are characters on there that I decided not to put in the “Meet the Crew” intro chapter… (Melissa won’t appear until the third chapter, James is in the first chapter, but won’t be a part of the crew until later&hellip

Soooo…. Any questions?

@Pronkat: Well, there will be chapters in which we follow Larken around at the school or Cassie around at her college, but I’m going to try to keep as many chapters focused around the coffee shop. Now, I am planning on a little “vacation” chapter or something, but that won’t be until muuuuch later after I divulge a few more details about Sammy and Larken in the comic.

LOL. Yeah, it does… Larken looks up to and is amazed by James similar to the way a child is amazed by a magician.

Huh. Might as well do something productive in this thread while I am unable to draw/upload…. Maybe a history of how the characters evolved?

Yeah. Let’s do that. We’ll start with Larken since he is the oldest creation-wise of the three.

Larken was based off a black cat nicknamed “Luke” that was in the neighborhood that I used to live in. He very rarely approached us kids, but when he did, he was shown to be very affectionate. I started drawing Garfield-like (?) comics with him in them. It was highly unoriginal. Seriously. I even stole jokes from the newspaper strip, if I remember correctly. This incarnation of Larken didn’t have the collar since no one owned the black cat that. Back then, his name was Luke, just like the cat I based him on. One of my neighbors had a dog named “Marcus” and that was pretty much the Odie of the comic. I was Filipino Jon.
Around 3rd grade, Luke and Marcus became more anthropomorphic since that was around the time I was really getting into Duck Tales and other comics/cartoons like it. Also, for some reason, this weird Pac-Man-like character appeared. I don’t even remember why.
When I moved away from that neighborhood, my black cat changed AGAIN. This time, he was without Marcus and pretty much represented me after I got out of my sprite comic phase. Seriously. He received a nerdy, middle-school name… “Noir”. Ugh. I WAS SO STUPID BACK THEN.
However, when I discovered BCB, the black cat suddenly split into two characters… Noir, who still represented me, and Luke, who I gave a blue collar. I submitted Luke to Taeshi. I swear, I gave him one of the laziest backstories I could think up. Why was it lazy? Other than the fact that he lived in Hawaii and was pretty much shunned because he was thought to be bad luck, his backstory was PRETTY MUCH THE BACKSTORY OF LUCY, MIKE, AND SANDY. As for why his name is now “Larken”, I didn’t like how similar “Luke” was to “Lucy”, so I changed it shortly after showing him to Taeshi.
For a year of high school, I pretty much forgot about Larken because I wanted to make a comic like “Better Days”. What’s worse is that I still used the name “Larken” for the main character of all these lame-ass comics that I did. Halfway through Junior year, I found my old sketches of Luke and decided to draw him again. Many changes have happened, but it’s all good.

I drew something. It’s a all grown-up Paulo as a businessman. How handsome.

I feel somewhat neglected. (EMOticon here)
