No, he isn’t. But he’s been acting a bit distant. It’s understandable, but (I think) he could have handled the situation better. ^_^

This is actually a greatly disputed point. We’ve had several older (read ancient) threads about this very subject, with may people supporting each side.

Suffice to say that it is up in the air at the moment.

You have to look at it from a lot of different angles, and even then you still won’t know the answer. He’s been a jerk, but also nice. You have to wait to get the true answer.

Well I get that everyone’s calling him an asshole because he is rejecting Lucy but they stop there! they don’t look at what she has done to Mike so many times! Hell If I was Mike and it continued a little more I would become psychopathic!

Many people have complained about Lucy’s apparently insane behavior. It led to a thread called Lucy’s Nuts. It deteriorated fast.

Like I said, I think it is understandable. But I don’t think he’s a jerk for rejecting Lucy (I am pro-Sandy ^_^), I think he is a jerk for pushing her away and talking bad about her behind her back. Again, I can completely understand why.

He is not a… hole, though. That term is a bit too strong.

Even though his behavior is understandable, the case can be made that he still has no excuse for acting so callously. There were better ways…

I agree with ILB, he’s a jerk but not an A-hole. There’s a fine line between the two. Also he’s probably done what a lot of people would have done in his situation. Even though I’m MikexLucy, he did the right thing by being faithful to Sandy.

We haven’t really seen Mike take center stage in months. It seems kind of hasty to call him an asshole, but, Hell, you just calls ‘em how you sees ‘em I suppose.

Lucy cuts a pretty sympathetic figure when she’s not being a bitch.

You have to admit that if Lucy Put you through all that shit, when you finally snapped you would never act the same towards her. There is no Denying that!

To tell you the truth, I have no idea. Chances are I’d never be on the receiving end of a Lucy. ^_^

But no, the subject didn’t die. We’re not terribly active around here, so some topics see a lot of traffic a short while before cooling down. When the rest of the forumers wake up, you’ll get a fresh batch of opinions. ^_^

alright alright… Maybe he didn’t do the right thing but I find his attitude towards Lucy and Paulo kind of acceptable.(notice how I randomly brought Paulo into this… actually don’t… )

Personally, I like Mike as a character. He’s really in love with Sandy, and has said as much to her - and although he’s still totally smitten with her, I think he’d stick by that decision even if things went cold for a while. Thinking of all the times he’s helped/saved/not-left-despite-being-beaten-up-by Lucy, he seems intensely loyal; I reckon the jerkiness is mainly down to everyone calling on his loyalty at once. No excuse for his being so charmless and callous, of course. But I do feel kinda sorry for the kid.

(And ILB, I feel I am rather active, really. I just happen to need my 23 hours beauty sleep a day. ^_^)

After all that Mike did Lucy still made him suffer and she would have continued if it weren’t for Zachary, During the Comic you can see his mood Decay and when your mood decays to the point of being more harsh on certain people, It’s like a scar, it’ll heal, but not completely.

He’ll feel stupid when Sandy dumps him on his ass.

That seems fairly well observed. I mean, if Sandy somehow wound up in Roseville and suddenly became a massive jerk herself, then I think Mike would revert back to Lucy if he realised his old Sandy was gone. But it’d take one heck of a time for either of them to feel comfortable with each other again.

why do I have the feeling that the comic will end with mike comiting suicide in the before last chapter?

I don’t think anyone ends with anyone unless the comic concludes before they graduate. I mean, unless you get knocked up (), it’s not like any of this shit will affect you for the rest of your life. They’ll all grow apart, get jobs, meet at reunions and save newspaper clippings for their obituaries if they even pay that much attention. That’s how life is. Sorry.

To me Mike isn’t an asshole, he’s just tired of the situation he were…
Since he and lucy first met she started to abuse him to try to save herself from solitude, but acting that way made him, slowly, grow intolerant to her (especially during the last times, it happened way before their trip)…
On the other hand, due to Mike’s lack of interest on Lucy during the time he was with Sandy, Lucy got hurted by him as well (that’s true especially since she grow dependent on him), and got hurted by him many other times (like the time at the river, for example)…
That made the two continue to stick each other for wrong reasons (Mike did it because he knew that Lucy need him and probably because he feel guilt to have hurt her and Lucy because, as I already said, needed him) and it was only matter of time before something goes wrong.
I think Mike did his best to try to support Lucy and to tolerate her harassment but probably he wasn’t able to take anymore of that when she went mad after she declared herself and overacted, after that, to prevent further harassment, he decided to act the way he is acting now…
Probably he only need to take some breath before he will be able to take back his place, we may say he is under maintenance… I’m pretty sure he will start again to help Lucy since, as showed in the comic, he really care about Lucy, I may just say that he tried to help her in the wrong way since he never tried to heal her mind but made her just more dependent on him.

Just a note, I really don’t know how many errors there may be (the longer the post, the easier for me to do some really stupid errors >.<, so I want to apologize, I just hope you can still figure out the whole post.

Yes and No…I agree with alot of the earlier statements.
Yes, Lucy has harassed Mike ALOT. But I think it’s because she doesn’t want to express her actual love of him, for she doesn’t seem to be the openly expressive type. She tries to give an appearence of “I don’t like him that way”.
Mike, I do like that he is being loyal to Sandy. She is his girlfriend, even if it is long distance they still love each other, and not seeing someone does hurt but also makes the bond stronger, for you want to see that person so badly. The constant complaining of Lucy only solidifies his position with Sandy, because Sandy doesn’t insult him all the time.

I love it, I spent alot of time these past 3 days re-reading it…but it irritates me to no end D:<
No offense to anyone who likes him, but I really dislike Paulo….just something about him I don’t iike, and because I’m pro MikexLucy it frustrated me to see Lucy kiss up to Paulo earlier….almost do it….and the Another Path chapter is one I don’t wanna read but I have to.

Mike isn’t really one. He’s just acting like it at the moment. You can act like something, but not really be it, like if you act nice but you’re just being deceiving. Truly, I think Mike just doesn’t want to be disloyal to Sandy. Remember during the Invitation chapter, “I just think she’d find it fishy for me to go to a beach in a faraway island as opposed to seeing her…” We know Sandy wouldn’t really get mad at that. She’d understand perfectly if Mike wanted to go on vacation with his friends, and Mike knows that. It’s just that he doesn’t want to seem disloyal. There are many, many people in the comic who nag him about not getting together with Lucy. He probably feels very guilty for rejecting her, but he also feels guilt at feeling that, because he’s still trying to be loyal to Sandy, regardless of his feelings for Lucy.

All in all, that’s more of the reason Mike’s acting the way he is, rather than feeling frustrated about Lucy’s treatment towards him. He knows Lucy better than anyone, and knows exactly why she’s like that. He has no particular bitter feelings for her, but rather, it’s probably the exact opposite; he’s putting up a barrier, because he’s trying to be careful what he does. Sandy isn’t with him; Lucy is. And that fact worries Mike, especially now that he knows how she feels. Part of him loves her, too, but regardless of that he is with Sandy, and Mike is afraid that those emotions for Lucy will cause him to do something that he’ll, well, not exactly regret, but that he’ll feel extreme guilt in doing because of Sandy.

In short, Mike’s in a long distance relationship and is afraid of being disloyal, so, he’s pushing Lucy away.
