Bittersweet Candy Bowl

This is another MMG (number 5, I think?), put up by popular demand. It is set in Chicago, 1923, and we follow the genderbent characters of BCB as their fates are linked together in a spiral of sin and murder. Commie wrote this (applause), but I am taking care of the events from now on, just so you know that.

As the game progresses, several of the characters may and will be killed by an unknown murderer. When the game ends, the remaining players meet to collect their clues and find the culprit - who may be any one of them, or perhaps any two…

Some basic rules:
- Try to stay to the setting and timeline. We do not want Dr. Mike Nicopolis to reappear and leave his medical supplies yet again. ^_^
- This also means that no one should teleport, use lasers, watch television, drive military helicopters and so on.
- Post actions within asterisks (*hops up and down*), thoughts in all italics (So this is the murder weapon…) and out-of-character remarks and comments within brackets or parentheses.
- Try to always use your alias when posting. For instance, I will be posting as Paula Dual instead of as ILB. If you forget, add your name within brackets at the bottom of your post.
- And have fun, of course. These here rules are more like guidelines. ^_^

With that said, the characters will be presented in the following post. Read the information, then choose who you want to play as.

Mr. Lucian Dawson, or Luke to his few close friends. A smart fellow with a good head on his shoulders. He is notorious for being the best underground boxer from here to main street. Though he has a reputation for being a curt ruffian, he is always there to protect those weaker than himself. He looks mighty dashing with his gray suit and pink bow tie.

Miss Michelle Stephenson, this sweet doll is the eye catching girl of the group. Many boys fall head over heels for her and have attempted to win her hand, but alas her heart belongs to another. She prefers to wear a fitted evening gown with a thin blue scarf. She also is an inspiring lounge singer for the small club uptown but sometimes comes visits Luke in the speakeasy.

Duke Owens, or “The Duke” as he is known around these parts. This bad looking boy is most often seen floating around the bad parts of town, but he holds a secret, inside he’s really a big softy. This cat wouldn’t hurt a fly if he was forced to, the large metal chain he wears around his neck doesn‘t help either. But because of his large exterior, others are often terrified of him and try their best to stay away.

Paula Dual, this feisty feline packs more than a punch, she packs the whole stick of dynamite. This cool kitty acts like just another flapper girl, but in truth, she a major part of the mob. All the big names know her, and fear her with good reason. Her followers are loyal to the death, and not afraid to let you know it. If you value your life, you’ll stay far away from her. She has her eye on several boys that frequent the club, Luke being just one of them. This is the host’s character, so not available.

Dani Walls, this energetic dog is best friends with Paula. She is also on of Paula’s most loyal underlings and will do anything for her. She too is a flapper girl and an expert at cards. She use to make money by card tricks on the street before Paula took her under her wing. These two have been inseparable ever since.

Abigail Lincoln, is a rising socialite. She comes from a well off family of stock-brokers but is extremely rebellious against her over-protective father and often comes down from her penthouse suite to visit the passing faces she knows from the club. She despises the name “Abigail” and insists that people call her Abby.

Stuart Jenkins, this young man searches all over Chicago for the next big star. He is a film maker and has had his eye on Michelle for quiet sometime. He simply sees her as the perfect actress in his next production but he has yet been able to convince her of this. He always looks dashing in his pinstriped business suit and red tie.

Adam Johns, he is the loyal side kick and assistant to Stu. Loyal as any mob member he makes sure to keep Stu out of trouble when ever it seems like he is about to get a face full of fists or drinks. He is very quiet and tries his hardest to stay out of the lime light but is not always successful. He prefers to wear a traditional black suit and red string bowtie.

Tex Overholster, this wealthy big name rancher with his large cowboy hat and boots sticks out like a sore thumb in the aristocratic neighborhoods of Chicago, which is why it seems that he prefers to stay in the more dangerous downtown. He seems to have an odd relationship with Paula to say the least, but it’s hard to tell considering the two are barely speaking to each other right now…

Alexis McCain, she is an oddly quiet woman who is often looked down upon because of her quiet open opinions. She refuses to wear anything but pants suits, a truly radical move for a woman, and small dark round shades. It seems that she even sticks out in the crowd of rather rough women that frequent the bars and gambling rings. Stu is rather intrigued with her and is also pursing her to join his movie.

Miller Lincoln, is the younger brother of Abby who was sent here by their father to spy on his daughter’s whereabouts. This young lad is always looking for adventure and fun. He jumped at the chance to go follow his sister but could really careless what she up to, he simply wanted to see the underground world of Chicago.

Justine Lewis, is young girl is only here because she followed Miller into the downtown. She sticks close to him in fear of the rather rough crowd that they seem to have gotten themselves mixed up in. Where Miller is loud and rash, she is cautious and careful. She makes sure he doesn’t get into much trouble while they explore downtown.

Jesse Barnum, this vaudeville player long with his faithful partner is one of the most success full acts on the circuit. Their comedy routines draw crowds from miles around, but Jesse has a bit of a problem, he is an avid alcoholic. Thus the reason the he is often seen floating around the bar, grabbing a drink and a few ladies in the process.

Raphael Greco, the Italian partner to Jesse, he can has a slightly heavy accent and thus is often misunderstood. But despite this fact, the ladies seem to love him and his singing. It’s too bad he has a horrible gambling problem and while his partner gets drunk off his rocker, he often spends every dime he owns on betting fights.

You might be wondering who I am, correct? Well my name is Autumn, that’s all you have to know right now. You also need to know that I am a reporter, one day I’m going to be famous for the stories I write about this place. Honestly these people write the stories for themselves, I just happen to be here to record it. Leaving a Comment is Autumn, as a “secondary host”.

(Just a note: Leaving a Comment is playing as Autumn, and she was also the writer of this story. I am merely hosting it for her, as she is far more busy than me. Girls help girls out, and all that. ^_^)

(It will probably start full some time Sunday (that is, about 20 hours from now), but it might be put off until a bit earlier on Monday. My time zone is GMT +1, but I will try to time important activites so that they happen when most people are online.

That said, I’m off to bed now. I’ll try to clear up the timing issue when I wake up tomorrow.)

Mr. Dawson! What a… pleasant surprise. The Lincolns, Adam and Duke are inside… but do watch out, there’s a journalist in there too.

(This will be kind of hard. I’ll just try to play Paula as somewhat reminiscent of Cruella De Vil - but not too much, otherwise I will start loathing myself. ^_^)

Adam sat at the window, bored out of his mind. He started to wish that he had arrived a bit later considering that there was no one that he wanted to talk to, not that he ever did much talking.

(Is it okay if I play Adam like this? Typing in third person limited?)

(Yes, that would be perfect. ^_^)

*A figure quietly stands in the corner and scribbles on a note pad, her black Cloche hat rests on her head, and her black pressed skirt and jacket rest over a white shirt. Her eyes dart from the page to the people wandering around the place and then back to the paper again. A small smile plays over her lips as she scribbles more down.*

Perfect. *She says quietly to herself as she closes the pad and moves to interact with some of the other guests.*

*enters, and looks dismissively at the reporter*

So… Why are you here?

*blows a cloud of smoke*

*The cat smiles as she swipes the smoke away.*

I’m simply here to enjoy a drink and company of other guests. Nothing to get your dress in a bunch about.

*gives Autumn a contemptful look*

Very well. Do as you will. Now, if you’ll excuse me…

*Walk into the room, scribbling down on a peice of paper, as he looks around and sees Adam and sits down next to him*

Come on you should be happy we’re in such an enthusiastic place, theres no need to sit here alone in the dark.

*Moves to the corner of the room and leans against the wall, takeing a small brass flask from under his suits jacket and takes a sip before putting it back and takeing a slight look at the hostess*

Oh I saw her around here not to long ago. She seems to have disappeared at the moment though. Not that I mind much, she didn’t seem to excited to see me lurking around anyways.

Oops! Wrong Murder Mystery! Sorry!

Adam was feeling uncomfortable. Why was there a reporter here? He was worried that the reporter might be after Stu, wanting details about his latest project. Adam felt like he had to keep an eye on this girl.

(You can do present tense first person or past tense third person depending on how you want to do it. I’ll probably be changing through out the story.)

*She used Dani’s lite cigarette to light her own and she took a deep drag before exhaling and smiling.*

Oh I completely realize that she hates my type of people, but a job a job, and I intend to do my job well. *She gave the dog another wink and looked around the bar while shoving a hand in her pocket.*

But in case your boss is worried about me being here to bust her or something, tell her to get her tail out of a bunch. I’m interested in another scoop. You can report back that the reporters are just as corrupt as the police and mobsters in this city.

*takes a huge breath from the cigarette and “accidently” blows smoke into autumn’s face*
Sorry about that dear. I wouldn’t say corrupt, they just have a different way of handling things.

(Well, i am backwards. i posted as draixen here and dani on the cooking thread. sorry bout that, at least we haven’t started on the story.)

*Autumn kept a grin on her face as she took the cigarette out of her mouth and waved the smoke from her face.*

Believe what you want to Dani girl, but just remember, we all get ours in the end. *She tapped her cigarette and let the ash fall onto the dog’s shoe with her grin still on her face.*

And from now on you might want to be careful who offend, I might not be after your boss right now, but I have enough dirt on all the scum bags of this town to bury it.

Adam’s ears perked up when he heard Autumn’s comment. He glared at her. He didn’t trust her one bit.

*Autumn noticed Adam glaring at her and she gave him a broad smile before excusing herself from Dani’s company.* Why hello there tall, orange, and handsome. Do you mind if a lady joins you, you look awful lonely here.

*She didn’t wait for a response as she sat down anyways and puffed on her smoke.*

*glares angrily at Autumn straight in the eyes*
